A new species, based on two specimens from Guana Island, BritishVirgin Islands, is described. The new species agrees with thegenus Hypselodoris in having a high body profile, a large vestibulargland and mantle glands. It differs from other members of thegenus in the Atlantic Ocean by having a reddish background bodycolour. In addition, dorsal colour patterns such as a broadcentral white line with lateral extensions and the lack of yellowlines or spots further differentiate this species. The radularformula of 52x41.0.41 and a smaller seminal receptacle are alsodistinctive. The phylogenetic relationships of 34 species andsubspecies of Hypselodoris from the eastern Pacific and Atlanticare examined using morphological characters. With the exceptionof the new species, these are characterized by a dark blue backgroundbody colour. The phylogenetic analysis of the data matrix resultedin eight most-parsimonious trees. The resulting consensus treeshows that eastern Pacific and Atlantic species of Hypselodorisconstitute a monophyletic group that is basally split into twosister clades. One clade contains the eastern Pacific speciesand most of the Caribbean species, whereas the other clade containsthe eastern Atlantic species. The new species is the sisterto the rest of the Caribbean species, which also form a monophyleticgroup. This phylogenetic hypothesis suggests that two consecutivevicariant events have affected the biogeography of Hypselodoris:(1) the closure of communication between the tropical Indo-Pacificregion and the Atlantic and eastern Pacific, completed withthe formation of the East Pacific Barrier; and (2) the riseof the Panama isthmus. Rostanga elandsia sp. nov., Rostanga aureamala sp. nov. andRostanga phepha sp. nov. are characterized by having the radulawith slender innermost lateral teeth, which lack denticles onthe inner side of the cusp and have a single denticle on theouter side. The outermost lateral teeth of these three speciesare elongate, but shorter than in other species of the genus.In addition, R. aureamala is the only species of the genus withrachidian teeth and R. phepha is unique within the genus Rostanga byvirtue of its white coloration with dark spots. A phylogenetic analysis shows that the three new species fromSouth Africa and Rostanga setidens (Odhner, 1939) are the sistergroup of the rest of the genus. The species from Japan and MarshallIslands (North Pacific Ocean) are basal in the sister cladecontaining the other species of Rostanga Bergh, 1879. The tropicalIndo-Pacific species of Rostanga are not monophyletic. The Atlanticand Eastern Pacific species form a monophyletic, derived clade,being the sister group of Rostanga australis Rudman & Avern,1989, which has a narrow range restricted to south eastern Australia.The widespread Indo-Pacific species Rostanga bifurcata Rudman& Avern, 1989, is the sister group of Rostanga dentacus Rudman& Avern, 1989, also widesprad in the tropical western Pacific. This phylogeny suggest s a viariant origin of the Sourth African, Atlantic-EasternPacific, and probably North Pacific species, whereas in thetropical Indo-Pacific most sister speceis are sympatric. A new genus of phyllidiid nudibranch, Reticulidia, is described.Distinguishing features are the reticulate pattern of smoothridges on the dorsum and the radially arranged, glandular discswhich make up the pharyngeal bulb. Additional features of theforegut are described and compared with other genera. The importanceof the alimentary system for the separation of genera withinthe Phyllidiidae is supported and its validity reinforced bythis new genus. A new species of pelagic amphipod, Lestrigonus ducrayi sp. nov.,from eastern Australia, is described and illustrated. It isvery similar to Lestrigonus bengalensis Giles, 1887, but isreadily distinguished by a relatively shorter telson (aboutone-third peduncle uropod 3) and, in mature males, pereonites1–5 are fused as in females. The two species often occurtogether in the same plankton sample; the new species beingmore abundant inshore, although both species seem to preferinshore waters. Phytogeography of Hong Kong bryophytes   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7  
Aim Hong Kong is in a biogeographically interesting location on the northern margins of the Asian tropics. This paper analyzes the phytogeography of Hong Kong's bryophyte flora for the first time. Location Hong Kong lies on the South China coast, 22°9′–22°37′ N, 113°52′–114°30′ E. It is one of the most densely populated places in the world, but because of the rugged topography only 20% of the total land area of 1100 km2 is urbanized. Although 130 km south of the Tropic of Cancer, it has a subtropical climate with distinct hot, humid and cool, dry seasons. Methods The analysis is based on a new and relatively complete inventory of Hong Kong's bryoflora. Each taxon was assigned to a phytogeographical pattern on the basis of its present worldwide distribution. Krober's percentage similarity was employed to evaluate the floristic affinities between different regions. Results The bryophyte flora consists of at least 360 species and twelve infraspecific taxa in 159 genera and seventy families, of which four taxa are locally endemic. The largest families are Lejeuneaceae (fifty‐one taxa), Fissidentaceae (28), Hypnaceae (21), Dicranaceae (20), Calymperaceae (18), and Sematophyllaceae (15). The largest genera are Fissidens (28), Cololejeunea (17), Lejeunea (10), Syrrhopodon (9), Frullania (8), and Macromitrium (8). Fourteen phytogeographical patterns are recognized. The East Asian pattern is the commonest (seventy‐three taxa, 19.6%), followed by Asian–Australian–Oceanian (45, 12.1%) and Temperate (44, 11.8%). Overall, a third of taxa have tropical distributions. The bryofloras of eleven regions were compared with that of Hong Kong. The most similar regions are Hainan Province, Taiwan Province, and Japan. Mosses and liverworts show very similar phytogeographical distributions. Main conclusions (1) The Hong Kong bryoflora is best described as northern marginal tropical, with a strong Eastern Asian and Temperate influence; (2) the region of closest phytogeographical affinity for which information is available is Hainan; (3) in comparison with vascular plants, vertebrates and those invertebrate groups for which there is information, the bryoflora has a relatively low proportion of tropical taxa; (4) the bryoflora of Hong Kong appears to be exceptionally rich for its small area.  相似文献

The leptonacean genus Montacutona is represented by a number of species, mostly recorded from Japan and known only from type specimens. An Australian species, M. ceriantha , has been more adequately described but still in insufficient detail. This study reports upon the Japanese species, M. olivacea . Both M. ceriantha from Australia and M. olivacea from Hong Kong and Japan inhabit the tubes of species of the burrowing anemone Cerianthus. M. compacta inhabits the surface apertures and crevices of coral heads in Hong Kong, apparently not in association with any of the other inhabitants, but probably with the coral itself.  相似文献

Two new Italian species of the genus Islamia (Prosobranchia:Hydrobiidae), one living in eastern Sicily (I. cianensis), andone on Elba Island (Tuscan Archipelago, Italy) (I. gaiteri)are described. The two species are distinguished on the basisof shell and anatomical characters, mainly those of the malegenitalia. I. cianesis n. sp. is characterized by a valvatoidshell and a penial lobe with internal band of glandular tissuenot distinct in its lower portion from the penis body but bulgingapically as a small knob. Five species of diplectanids are described or redescribed on the basis of sclerotised parts, from a survey of 26 species of Sillaginidae in the Indo-west Pacific. Diplectanum sillagonum Tripathi is widespread, and is recorded on Sillago sihama from tropical Australia north to Hong Kong and west to India, as well as on S. vincenti (in India) and S. attenuata (Persian Gulf). Diplectanum blairense Gupta & Khanna infects S. sihama and S. indica and is sympatric with D. sillagonum over some of its range (Hong Kong to India and south to Bali). Diplectanum flagritubus Nagibina is synonymised with D. blairense. Diplectanum puriense Tripathi is redescribed from S. chondropus in western Thailand, but was not found on specimens of its type host, Sillaginopsis panijus from the Bay of Bengal. Monoplectanum youngi sp. n. is described from Sillago analis, S. ciliata, S. sihama, S. parvisquamis, S. lutea and S. attenuata and is more widespread than D. sillagonum , extending into subtropical waters in Australia. Monoplectanum australe Young infects S. maculata and S. burrus , and appears to be endemic to Australia. The diagnosis of Monoplectanum , until now monotypic, is emended, the genus is unlikely to contain more new species on sillaginid fishes, and its two species probably share a common ancestor with D. blairense. Parasitological evidence favours a close relationship between Sillaginidae and Sciaenidae.  相似文献

Deep-water trawl surveys on seamounts around New Caledonia yielded62 specimens of the little-known genus, Scaeurgus. Members ofthis genus of octopuses typically occur at depths of 200–500m in temperate and tropical latitudes worldwide. Prior to thisstudy, Scaeurgus was considered to contain one to two species.The new material from New Caledonia contained a surprising diversityof Scaeurgus species from a small area: three distinct new speciesare described and limited material of a further two taxa isreported. A pygmy member of this genus is reported for the firsttime. Distributions of these new taxa are consistent with reportsof high endemism on the seamount systems in this region. The Labidocera pectinata species group is recognized as a uniquemonophyletic lineage within the primarily tropical Indo-WestPacific radiation of coastal water species encompassed by theLabidocera kroyeri complex. Both categories are defined andthe six species comprising the pectinata group, including twonew to science, are diagnosed. Review of available facts supportsthe proposal that L. bipinnata be ranked as a junior synonymof L. rotunda. Phylogenetic relationships within the group basedon sexually modified characters are assessed. Two geminate pairsof parapatric species are identified. The geographic rangesof one pair are adjacent in the Andaman Sea, those of the otherpair in the vicinity of Cape York, Australia. Each pair appearsto be a consequence of a relatively recent speciation event.The apparent phylogenetic intermediacy of L. japonica linkingthe two tropical species of Asia and the three from Papua-Australiasuggests an older sequence of trans-hemisphere spreading anddiversification.  相似文献

A new species of phyllidiid nudibranch, Phyllidiopsis shireenae,is described. The new species has a middorsal crest insteadof being flattened dorso-ventrally like most phyllidiids. Itsbody is a very pale shade of pink with black bands, and itsrhinophores are salmon pink. The anatomy of the alimentary systemand reproductive system are described. Characters originallyused by Bergh (1875) to differentiate the genus are supportedby this new species. On the basis of reproductive anatomy and radula, the poorlyknown genus Mainwaringia Nevill, 1885, is shown to belong tothe Littorinidae. The genus is represented by two species, M.leithii (E.A. Smith, 1876) from India to Vietnam, and a newspecies, M. rhizophila, from Malaysia to Hong Kong. Both occurin mangrove forests. The reproductive anatomy of M, rhizophilais described in detail, and it is interpreted as a protandroushermaphrodite, a condition unique in the Littorinacea. In theintersexual and female stages both closed pallial oviduct andopen prostate are present in the mantle wall, suggesting thatthese structures are not strictly homologous. The affinitiesof Mainwaringiaare discussed, and it is concluded that it maybe most closely related to Littorina s.s. (Received 30 May 1986;  相似文献

A new genus of Assimineidae, Conassiminea, is described fromestuarine habitats in southeastern Australia (New South Wales,Tasmania and Victoria). Two new species, C. studderti and C.zheni, are included in the genus, the former being the typespecies. Conassiminea is distinct from all other assimineidgenera in two autapomorphies in the female reproductive system:the seminal receptacle has two ducts and the bursal duct isextremely wide. Priolepis akihitoi is described as new from Australia, New Caledonia and Japan. The species is distinctive in having a transverse papilla pattern, second dorsal rays usually I, 11, predorsal fully scaled and dark bars dorsally on the caudal fin. Priolepis cyanocephala is described as new from eastern Australia and Lord Howe Island. It differs from other species in having a reduced transverse papilla pattern, second dorsal rays I, 10, predorsal largely naked and head with vertical bands, but no bands on the body. Priolepis profunda is redescribed based on material from northwestern Australia and Thailand, and photos of specimens from Indonesia, New Guinea and the Philippines. Priolepis psygmophilia is redescribed based on recently obtained material from the Kermadec Islands and other material from Lord Howe Island, Easter Island and Rapa Island.  相似文献
