A new compact wastewater treatment system for use in single houses has been constructed in eastern Norway. The system is based on the principles of sub-surface flow constructed wetlands using various types of Filtralite as filter media. It consists of a septic tank followed by an aerobic biofilter succeeded by an upflow saturated filter. The aerobic biofilter is essential to remove organic matter and achieve nitrification, while the upflow filter polishes the wastewater and removes microorganisms and phosphorus. During the first 3 years of operation, the system has show stable and high removal with the following average values measured from the outlet of septic tank to the outlet of the upflow filter: 97.0%-BOD7, 30%-N, 99.4%-P, and 70.8%-SS. No Escherichia coli or somatic coliphages have been detected in the effluent. Due to considerable removal of organic mater, nutrients, and pathogens, the effluent will not negatively affect water and soil ecosystems. The system requires low maintenance and is designed to remove phosphorus for 5 years before renewal of the upflow filter media. When saturated with phosphorus, the media is a suitable fertilizer for plant production.  相似文献

This work discusses the potential routes of transport, possible occurrence and predicted fate of parasite eggs corresponding to human pathogens in on-site wastewater treatment systems with Light Weight Aggregates (LWA) media. The discussion is mainly based on scientific evidences supported by practical outcomes derived from a survey of helminth eggs in the specific LWA materials—typical filter media of constructed wetlands (CWs) treating domestic wastewater in Norway. The scientific evidences showed that the greatest reduction in the egg concentrations occurs in septic tanks. The eggs that could pass through the tank trap can be accumulated and effectively eliminated in the filter media of CWs. The practical outcomes did not show any accumulation and the consequent contamination of the LWA media with helminth eggs. Because the outcomes characterised a survey that was carried out for the first time ever on the above-specified filter media and was not replicated, the absence of parasite eggs in the CW filters cannot be definitely stated. However, it could be theoretically assumed that the possibility of finding human parasite eggs originated from domestic wastewater in the LWA filters should be negligible.  相似文献

Grey water characteristics and treatment options for rural areas in Jordan   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Low water consumption in rural areas in Jordan had resulted in the production of concentrated grey water. Average COD, BOD and TSS values were 2568mg/l, 1056mg/l and 845mg/l, respectively. The average grey water generation was measured to be 14L/c.d. Three different treatment options were selected based on certain criterions, and discussed in this article. The examined treatment systems are septic tank followed by intermittent sand filter; septic tank followed by wetlands; and UASB-hybrid reactor. Advantages and disadvantages of each system are presented. It was concluded that UASB-hybrid reactor would be the most suitable treatment option in terms of compactness and simplicity in operation. The volume of UASB-hybrid reactor was calculated to be 0.268m(3) with a surface area of 0.138m(2) for each house having 10 inhabitants on average. Produced effluent is expected to meet Jordanian standards set for reclaimed water reuse in irrigating fruit trees.  相似文献

Constructed wetlands are wastewater treatment technologies based in natural systems, and their environmental and hydraulic behaviour is influenced by weather conditions like temperature, solar radiation and precipitation. In this paper, a one-dimensional dynamic model applicable to horizontal flow constructed wetlands is presented. The structure of the hydraulic module considers Darcy's law for estimating head losses along the porous media and the boundary condition of the outlet structure. For the water budgets, precipitation and evapotranspiration are considered. The model was calibrated and validated with data from a constructed wetland operating in the South of Portugal, and a good agreement between simulated and measured data was obtained. The relevance of considering evapotranspiration in order to obtain good flow estimations was demonstrated, showing a significant influence of that variable on daily flow reductions, especially during summer months. Better simulation results were obtained when considering an evapotranspiration pattern that describes variations during the day, instead of a constant daily evapotranspiration rate.  相似文献

藻类动态变化是其内部生理特征和外部驱动因素综合作用的结果。除了藻类自身生理因素及光、温度、营养盐等因素,水动力作用使底泥发生再悬浮所造成的营养盐的内源释放对藻类的影响也非常重要。1999年5月8日~6月24日在太湖湖泊生态系统研究站大型生态实验槽中进行了模拟水动力条件下的太湖藻类动态实验,并应用国外先进的PHREEQC软件从生物化学和生态动力学角度建立了藻类生态动力学模型。模型不仅考虑了氮循环及磷循环,还考虑了水动力条件引起的内源释放问题,根据2003年4月26~4月30日在河海大学环形水槽所做的底泥释放实验结果建立了水流和各形态氮磷营养盐释放的定量化关系。由于目前太湖的野外监测资料存在较明显的时空不一致性,模型参数率定的精度受到了较大影响。从室内模拟实验出发,通过对生态槽实验结果的模拟,确定和验证了模型的各参数值,计算结果显示模拟值能较好地拟合实验测量值,表明所建藻类生态动力学模型能较好地描述藻类及各种营养盐的动态变化,这对揭示藻类“水华”暴发机理有一定的意义。  相似文献

Nine filter beds have been constructed in the Nordic countries, Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. Filter beds consist of a septic tank followed by an aerobic pre-treatment biofilter and a subsequent saturated flow grass-covered filter. Thus, filter beds are similar to subsurface flow constructed wetlands with pre-treatment biofilters, but do not have wetland plants with roots submerged into the saturated filter. All saturated filters contain Filtralite®P, a light-weight expanded clay aggregate possessing high phosphorus sorption capacity. The filter bed systems showed stable and consistent performance during the testing period of 3 years. Removal of organic matter measured as biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) was >80%, total phosphorus (TP) >94% and total nitrogen (TN) ranged from 32 to 66%. Effluent concentrations of fecal indicator bacteria met the European bathing water quality criteria in all systems. One system was investigated for virus removal and somatic viruses were not detected in the effluent. The investigations revealed that the majority of the BOD and nitrogen removal occurred in the pre-treatment filters and the phosphorus and bacteria removal was more prominent in the saturated filters. The saturated filters could be built substantially smaller than the current design guidelines without sacrificing treatment performance. The used filter material met the Norwegian regulations for reuse in agriculture with respect to heavy metals, bacteria and parasites. When saturated with phosphorus, the light-weight aggregate, Filtralite®P used in the saturated bed is a suitable phosphorus fertilizer and additionally has a liming effect.  相似文献

A wastewater biofiltration model is used to assess its capacity to reproduce the treatment behaviour of a plant-sized tertiary nitrifying biofilter unit. It is calibrated on two different types of datasets collected at the Seine-Aval biofiltration plant (Achères, France): grab samples at several heights inside the media bed and a long-term daily plant monitoring over a 1-year period. The model parameters are first calibrated to fit the dynamics observed in the media bed, after which the model is compared to the second dataset. Further parameter changes are then made if necessary and the model is once again compared to both datasets to ensure its ability to predict the treatment behaviour on both size scales. The calibrated model provides correct predictions for most observed nutrient variables for both datasets. An overestimation of the oxygen transfer under a summer, low ammonia load period however leads to a slight underestimation of the nitrifying efficiency of the biofilters. Statistical score computation corroborates the model accuracy as the mean error scores usually remain low. They also point to a certain weakness of the model regarding the suspended solids filtration. Both datasets are overall correctly modelled using a single parameter set. Most of this parameter set is close to or contained in value ranges found in the literature. The parameters related to aeration, however, seem to be slightly higher than what is reported elsewhere.  相似文献

Design and analysis of a solar reactor for anaerobic wastewater treatment   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The aim of this research was to design a solar heated reactor system to enhance the anaerobic treatment of wastewater or biological sludge at temperatures higher than the ambient air temperature. For the proposed reactor system, the solar energy absorbed by flat plate collectors was transferred to a heat storage tank, which continuously supplied an anaerobic-filter reactor with water at a maximum temperature of 35 degrees C. The packed reactor was a metallic cylindrical tank with a peripheral twin-wall enclosure. Inside this enclosure was circulated warm water from the heat storage tank. Furthermore, a mathematical model was developed for the prediction of the temperature distribution within the reactor under steady state conditions. Preliminary results based on model simulations performed with meteorological data from various geographical regions of the world suggested that the proposed solar reactor system could be a promising and environmentally friendly approach for anaerobic treatment of wastewater and biological sludge.  相似文献

Adaptive control of dissolved oxygen concentration in a bioreactor   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A new adaptive DO (dissolved oxygen) concentration control algorithm considering DO electrode dynamics with response time delay has been developed. A system model with two time-varying parameters was used to relate the DO concentration with two control variables: air flow rate and agitation speed. Parameters of this model were estimated on-line using a regularized constant trace recursive least-squares method. An extended Kalman filter was used to remove the effect of noises from the DO concentration measurements and thus to improve control performance. A discrete one-step ahead control scheme was adopted to determine control actions based on the parameter estimation results. Experimental results showed that the new adaptive DO concentration control algorithm performed better than other algorithms tested, a PID controller and adaptive algorithms without the DO electrode dynamics.  相似文献

Micro-aeration, which refers to the addition of very small amounts of air, is a simple technology that can potentially be incorporated in septic tanks to improve the digestion performance. The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare the effects of micro-aeration on anaerobic digestion of primary sludge under septic tank conditions. 1.6 L batch reactor experiments were carried out in duplicate using raw primary sludge, with 4.1 % total solids, and diluted primary sludge, with 2.1 % total solids. Reactors were operated for 5 weeks at room temperature to simulate septic tank conditions. Micro-aeration rate of 0.00156 vvm effectively solubilised chemical oxygen demand (COD) and improved the subsequent degradation of COD. Micro-aeration also increased the generation of ammonia and soluble proteins, but did not improve the reduction in total and volatile solids, or the reduction in carbohydrates. Experiments using diluted sludge samples showed similar trends as the experiments with raw sludge, which suggest that initial solids concentration did not have a significant effect on the degradation of primary sludge under septic tank conditions.  相似文献

This paper examined if an electromyography (EMG) driven musculoskeletal model of the human knee could be used to predict knee moments, calculated using inverse dynamics, across a varied range of dynamic contractile conditions. Muscle-tendon lengths and moment arms of 13 muscles crossing the knee joint were determined from joint kinematics using a three-dimensional anatomical model of the lower limb. Muscle activation was determined using a second-order discrete non-linear model using rectified and low-pass filtered EMG as input. A modified Hill-type muscle model was used to calculate individual muscle forces using activation and muscle tendon lengths as inputs. The model was calibrated to six individuals by altering a set of physiologically based parameters using mathematical optimisation to match the net flexion/extension (FE) muscle moment with those measured by inverse dynamics. The model was calibrated for each subject using 5 different tasks, including passive and active FE in an isokinetic dynamometer, running, and cutting manoeuvres recorded using three-dimensional motion analysis. Once calibrated, the model was used to predict the FE moments, estimated via inverse dynamics, from over 200 isokinetic dynamometer, running and sidestepping tasks. The inverse dynamics joint moments were predicted with an average R(2) of 0.91 and mean residual error of approximately 12 Nm. A re-calibration of only the EMG-to-activation parameters revealed FE moments prediction across weeks of similar accuracy. Changing the muscle model to one that is more physiologically correct produced better predictions. The modelling method presented represents a good way to estimate in vivo muscle forces during movement tasks.  相似文献

Adult Aedes aegypti (Linnaeus) (Diptera: Culicidae) were previously recovered from emergence traps on septic tanks in southeastern Puerto Rico. In this study we quantified immature mosquito abundance and its relationship with structural variables of the septic tanks and chemical properties of the water containing raw sewage. A miniaturized floating funnel trap was used to sample 89 septic tanks for larvae in the Puerto Rican community of Playa‐Playita. Aedes aegypti larvae were recovered from 18% of the sampled tanks (10.3 larvae per septic tank per day). Larval presence was positively associated with cracking of the septic tank walls and uncovered access ports. Larval abundance was positively associated with cracking of the septic tank walls and larger tank surface areas, and inversely associated with the total dissolved solids (TDS). Culex quinquefasciatus (Say) larvae were also recovered from 74% of the septic tanks (129.6 larvae per septic tank per day). Larval presence was negatively associated with TDS in the water and larval abundance was positively associated with cracking of the septic tank walls. A screened, plastic emergence trap was used to sample 93 septic tanks within the community for Ae. aegypti and Cx. quinquefasciatus adults. Aedes aegypti adults were recovered from 49% of the sampled tanks (8.7 adults per septic tank per day) and Cx. quinquefasciatus adults were recovered from 97% of the sampled tanks (155.5 adults per septic tank per day). Aedes aegypti adult presence was positively associated with cracking, uncapped openings and septic water pH. The Ae. aegypti adult counts were positively associated with cracking and inversely associated with TDS and conductivity. This study marks the first published record of the recovery of Ae. aegypti larvae from holding tanks containing raw sewage in the Caribbean region. Our study indicates that Ae. aegypti larvae are present in sewage water and that septic tanks have at least the potential to maintain dengue transmission during the dry season.  相似文献

Effect of bench-scale culture conditions on murine IgG heterogeneity   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
A stable murine hybridoma cell line, secreting IgG1 antibodies (7H3) against the soluble type I receptor for Tumor Necrosis Factor (sTNF-R1), was cultivated in two different bioreactor systems, a hollow fiber and a stirred tank fermentor, in order to evaluate the effect of culture conditions on antibody structural and functional heterogeneity. Conventional serum-supplemented and serum-free media were chosen for fermentation in stirred tank bioreactor, whereas only serum-supplemented media were used for hollow fiber cultivation. Extent of glycosylation, determined by lectin binding assays, and charge heterogeneity of murine monoclonal antibodies displayed relevant variations according to the fermentation system used. After complete sugars removal by N-glycosidase F treatment, charge heterogeneity were still observed suggesting the occurrence of additional modifications at the protein level. In vitro culture in serum-supplemented media carried out with the hollow fibre system led to higher productivity but greater antibody charge heterogeneity and differences in lectin-binding profile than cultivation in the stirred tank bioreactor.Results cumulatively indicated that hybridoma cultivation methods, but also cultivation time, influence antibody heterogeneity, both in the protein and sugar moieties. The survival of Salmonella adelaide and fecal coliforms in two coarse sands influenced by two sources of septic tank effluent was studied. The experiments were conducted in conditions that reflected the soil environment beneath functioning septic tank systems. Significant differences in survival were found with different effluent sources. In one experiment the survival of S. adelaide was similar to that of fecal coliforms; in the other it was not. The nonuniform, multiphasic nature of survival curves was variability observed in these experiments suggests that the application of such survival data for establishing management criteria for septic tank systems--by, for example, the use of soil moisture characteristic curves to give estimates of movement in the soil--is inappropriate.  相似文献

Official guidelines for the on-site treatment of domestic sewage have recently been published by the Danish Ministry of Environment as a consequence of new treatment requirements for single houses and dwellings in rural areas. This paper summarises the guidelines for vertical constructed wetland systems (planted filter beds) that will fulfil demands of 95% removal of BOD and 90% nitrification. The system can be extended with chemical precipitation of phosphorus with aluminium polychloride in the sedimentation tank to meet requirements of 90% phosphorus removal. The necessary surface area of the filter bed is 3.2 m2/person equivalent and the effective filter depth is 1.0 m. The filter medium must be filtersand with a d10 between 0.25 and 1.2 mm, a d60 between 1 and 4 mm, and a uniformity coefficient (U = d60/d10) less than 3.5. The sewage is, after sedimentation, pulse-loaded onto the surface of the bed using pumping and a network of distribution pipes. The drainage layer in the bottom of the bed is passively aerated through vertical pipes extending into the atmosphere in order to improve oxygen transfer to the bed medium. Half of the nitrified effluent from the filter is recirculated to the first chamber of the sedimentation tank or to the pumping well in order to enhance denitrification and to stabilise the treatment performance of the system. A phosphorus removal system is installed in the sedimentation tank using a small dosing pump. The mixing of chemicals is obtained by a simple airlift pump, which also circulates water in the sedimentation tank. The vertical flow constructed wetland system is an attractive alternative to the common practice of soil infiltration and provides efficient treatment of sewage for discharge into the aquatic environment.  相似文献

Modelling flow-diverting (FD) stents as porous media (PM) markedly improves the efficiency of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations in the study of intracranial aneurysm treatment. Nonetheless, the parameters of PM models adopted for simulations up until now were rarely calibrated to match the represented FD structure. We therefore sought to evaluate the PM parameters for a representative variety of commercially available stents, so characterising the flow-diversion behaviours of different FD devices on the market.We generated fully-resolved geometries for treatments using PED, Silk+, FRED, and dual PED stents. We then correspondingly derived the calibrated PM parameters—permeability (k) and inertial resistance factor (C2)—for each stent design from CFD simulations, to ensure the calibrated PM model has identical flow resistance to the FD stent it represents. With each of the calibrated PM models respectively deployed in two aneurysms, we studied the flow-diversion effects of these stent configurations.This work for the first time reported several sets of parameters for PM models, which is vital to address the current knowledge gap and rectify the errors in PM model simulations, thereby setting right the modelling protocol for future studies using PM models. The flow resistance parameters were strongly affected by porosity and effective thickness of the commercial stents, and thus accounted for in the PM models. Flow simulations using the PM stent models revealed differences in aneurysmal mass flowrate (MFR) and energy loss (EL) between various stent designs.This study improves the practicability of FD simulation by using calibrated PM models, providing an individualised method with improved simulation efficiency and accuracy.  相似文献

A recycling reactor system operated under sequential anoxic and oxic conditions was evaluated, in which the nutrients of piggery slurry were anaerobically and aerobically treated and then a portion of the effluent was recycled to the pigsty. The most dominant aerobic heterotrophs from the reactor were Alcaligenes faecalis (TSA-3), Brevundimonas diminuta (TSA-1) and Abiotrophia defectiva (TSA-2) in decreasing order, whereas lactic acid bacteria, LAB (MRS-1, etc.) were most dominantly observed in the anoxic tank. Here we have tried to model the nutrient removal process for each tank in the system based on population densities of heterotrophic and LAB. Principal component analysis (PCA) was first applied to delineate a relationship between input (microbial densities and treatment parameters such as population densities of heterotrophic and LAB, suspended solids (SS), COD, NH4 +–N, ortho-phosphorus, and total phosphorus) and output. Multi-layer neural networks using an error back-propagation learning algorithm were then employed to model the nutrient removal process for each tank. PCA filtration of microbial densities as input data was able to enhance generalization performance of the neural network, and this has led to a better prediction of the measured data. Neural networks independently trained for each treatment tank and the combined analysis of the subsequent tank data allowed a successful prediction of the treatment system for at least 2 days.  相似文献

A recycling reactor system operated under sequential anoxic and oxic conditions for the treatment of swine wastewater has been developed, in which piggery slurry is fermentatively and aerobically treated and then part of the effluent is recycled to the pigsty. This system significantly removes offensive smells (at both the pigsty and the treatment plant), BOD and others, and may be cost effective for small-scale farms. The most dominant heterotrophic were, in order,Alcaligenes faecalis, Brevundimonas diminuta andStreptococcus sp., while lactic acid bacteria were dominantly observed in the anoxic tank. We propose a novel monitoring system for a recycling piggery slurry treatment system through the use of neural networks. In this study, we tried to model the treatment process for each tank in the system (influent, fermentation, aeration, first sedimentation and fourth sedimentation tanks) based upon the population densities of the heterotrophic and lactic acid bacteria. Principal component analysis (PCA) was first applied to identify a relationship between input and output. The input would be microbial densities and the treatment parameters, such as population densities of heterotrophic and lactic acid bacteria, suspended solids (SS), COD, NH4 +-N, or-tho-phosphorus (o-P), and total-phosphorus (T-P). Then multi-layer neural networks were employed to model the treatment process for each tank. PCA filtration of the input data as microbial densities was found to facilitate the modeling procedure for the system monitoring even with a relatively lower number of input. Neural networks independently trained for each treatment tank and their subsequent combined data analysis allowed a successful prediction of the treatment system for at least two days.  相似文献
