Marked differences were observed between the clearance profiles of immunoreactive plasma gonadotropins in gonadectomized and intact male bullfrogs (Rana catesbeiana). The disappearance patterns of endogenously secreted follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) from plasma of intact animals following chronic (1-4 days) infusion with gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) showed multiple components, but the initial few half-lives were relatively short (less than 1 h) and about 90% of both gonadotropins were cleared from the plasma within 6 h. Hypophysectomy had no effect on gonadotropin clearance rates following the termination of GnRH infusion. Clearance profiles of exogenous gonadotropins after chronic (6 h) infusion of bullfrog pituitary extract were similar to those observed after GnRH infusion. Gonadectomized frogs also cleared these infused pituitary gonadotropins at the same rate as intact animals, confirming that gonadectomy did not impair peripheral clearance mechanisms. Relatively rapid clearance rates were also observed for endogenous FSH and LH in normal untreated frogs. By comparison, the disappearance rates of FSH and LH from plasma of six long-term gonadectomized males following hypophysectomy were extremely slow: first half-lives for FSH and LH were 25.6 h and 17.2 h, respectively, and subsequent half-lives were even longer. Several weeks were required to clear fully the FSH and LH from the circulation in these males. Thus, a significant change in the physicochemical form of the circulating gonadotropins after gonadectomy in the male bullfrog is postulated; the corresponding changes in clearance rates were considerably greater than have been observed in any other species.  相似文献

Secretory dynamics of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) were measured at various times following gonadectomy in adult male grass frogs, Rana pipiens. Plasma levels and in vitro initial secretory rates of both LH and FSH increased significantly within 1 wk and remained elevated for 3-4 wk of castration. Pituitary FSH and LH content were unchanged. However, dissociation between the two gonadotropins (Gth) occurred thereafter: Secretion of FSH remained elevated for 70 days, but those of LH declined to control levels after 30 days. In vitro secretion of Gth from gonadectomized (gonadx) frogs declined progressively over time reaching control levels after 24 h incubation. The results indicate that elevated pituitary secretion contributes to the observed circulating LH and FSH levels in gonadx frogs, and that FSH and LH may be controlled independently. Replacement therapy with 17 beta-estradiol (E2) suppressed post-gonadectomy increases in plasma Gth and in vitro responses to GnRH, whereas 5 alpha-dihydrotestosterone (DHT) had little effect in vivo and augmented GnRH responses in long-term castrates. In vitro, E2 also inhibited, while 48 h of DHT treatment had no effect on GnRH responsiveness of pituitaries from gonadx frogs. The actions of these steroids were opposite to those typically observed in mammals (and birds), and support the hypothesis that E2 may contribute to seasonal testicular regression in ranid frogs.  相似文献

Chronic (2-4 days) constant-rate infusions of mammalian gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) were performed in female bullfrogs, Rana catesbeiana. The magnitude and temporal relationship of profiles of plasma follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH) and sex steroids [testosterone (T), estradiol-17 beta (E2) and progesterone (P)] during GnRH infusion were dependent on ovarian stage. However, in all females, the same biphasic increase in plasma gonadotropins was apparent and initial elevations in gonadotropins were accompanied by correlated increments in plasma T and E2. Complete pituitary "desensitization" to chronic GnRH infusion was not observed. Females in early follicular stages were relatively unresponsive to infusions of 1.0-10.0 micrograms/h GnRH; elevations in plasma LH were marginal and FSH was unchanged. Females with fully developed (preovulatory) ovaries were more responsive: infusion of 1.0 micrograms/h GnRH produced significant elevations in plasma LH by 2 h followed by even larger increases ("surges") after 12 h. This LH "surge" was preceded by a decline in plasma T and E2 and was accompanied by abrupt elevations in plasma P and by ovulation. Postovulatory females showed a more gradual and smaller increase in plasma LH. Infusion of GnRH in the female bullfrog establishes a clear relationship between pituitary responsiveness and the ovarian cycle not evident from acute GnRH injection; GnRH was most effective immediately before ovulation. These data are also the first to detail periovulatory changes in plasma gonadotropins and ovarian steroids in an amphibian.  相似文献

We applied double post-embedding immunocytochemical methods using specific antibodies against bullfrog (Rana catesbeiana) luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) with immunogold staining (5- and 20-nm particles) to determine the subcellular localization of both gonadotropins and to observe their immunostaining patterns in anterior pituitary of the frog Rana pipiens. Results showed that individual gonadotrophs may store either one or both gonadotropins in a given secretory granule and in large globules (lysosomes?). Most gonadotrophs (50-88%) contain both hormones; 12-50% contain only FSH, and only a few (0-7%) contain LH alone. Individual secretory granules, even in cells that contain both hormones, may contain only one or both gonadotropin molecules. Evaluation of the percentage of monohormonal and multihormonal secretory granules revealed that multihormonal secretory granules were the most numerous and that LH monohormonal secretory granules were the least numerous. These results indicate that cellular storage of gonadotropin in amphibian pituitary is similar to that described for mammals, where a single cell type containing both gonadotropins predominates. Variability in hormone content both of cells and of granules in all individuals is consistent with the hypothesis that frog pituitary possesses a single multipotential gonadotroph.  相似文献

Sex differences in the acute response of circulating luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) to withdrawal from gonadal negative feedback in the rat are well established. To investigate postgonadectomy changes at the anterior pituitary level that may underlie dramatic in vivo sex differences, we used a computer-controlled pituitary perifusion system to measure in vitro basal secretion rates (BSRs) of LH and FSH following gonadectomy in the absence of exogenous gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). We compared BSRs of pituitaries removed from intact rats and from males and females 2 and 6 days post-gonadectomy. Glands were cut into quarters, placed into individual chambers, and perifused in Medium 199 at 10 ml/h for 4 h. In females (n = 12/gp), BSR of LH was not significantly elevated above intact levels by 2 days but had tripled by 6 days post-ovariectomy, while BSR of FSH had already doubled by 2 days and doubled again by 6 days. These changes in BSR in females paralleled changes in serum levels of both hormones. In males (n = 14/gp), although serum LH and FSH had increased 7-fold by 2 days post-orchidectomy, BSRs of LH and FSH had decreased to 75% and 64% of intact levels, respectively, by 6 days. These findings suggest important sex differences at the pituitary level in the responses to withdrawal from gonadal feedback that persist in culture in the absence of direct hypothalamic (GnRH) input.  相似文献

Isoelectrofocusing (IEF) profiles of bioactive and immunoreactive follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) were studied in saline extracts of pituitary glands from rhesus monkeys. No sex differences were found in the IEF profiles of FSH and LH in intact or gonadectomized animals. Gonadectomy in both sexes resulted in a marked increase in the formation of relatively more acidic molecular species of FSH and LH in parallel with the production of an unusual strongly alkaline FSH species.  相似文献

GnRH-stimulation tests were performed in 14 female and 14 male client-owned dogs of several breeds, before and 4 to 5 mo after gonadectomy. The aim of the study was to obtain more insight into the pituitary-gonadal axis in intact and neutered dogs and to establish reference values. Basal plasma luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) concentrations were increased significantly after gonadectomy in both bitches and male dogs. In both males and females ranges of the basal plasma FSH concentrations, before and after gonadectomy, did not overlap as opposed to the overlap in ranges of the basal plasma LH concentrations. Before gonadectomy basal plasma LH concentrations were lower and basal plasma FSH concentrations were higher in bitches than in male dogs. After gonadectomy these basal values did not differ significantly. GnRH administration before gonadectomy resulted in an increase in plasma LH and FSH concentrations in both genders. GnRH administration after gonadectomy produced an increase only in plasma LH concentrations in both genders, and a just significant increase in plasma FSH in castrated male dogs. GnRH administration before gonadectomy resulted in a significant increase in plasma testosterone concentration in both genders. In males ranges of basal and GnRH-stimulated plasma testosterone concentrations before and after gonadectomy did not overlap. Basal plasma estradiol concentrations were significantly higher in intact males than in castrated males and their ranges did not overlap. The basal estradiol concentrations in bitches before and after ovariectomy were not significantly different. At 120 min after GnRH administration, ranges of plasma estradiol concentration of intact and ovariectomized bitches no longer overlapped. In conclusion, basal plasma FSH concentration appears to be more reliable than basal plasma LH concentration for verification of neuter status in both male and female dogs. The basal plasma testosterone concentration appears to be reliable for verification of neuter status in male dogs. The plasma estradiol concentration at 120 min after GnRH administration can be used to discriminate between bitches with and without functional ovarian tissue.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to determine the acute response of pituitary FSH and LH release to unilateral gonadectomy in the MSG-treated rat, and to determine whether pFF (inhibin) can act effectively on pituitary FSH secretion in the MSG-lesioned rat. MSG (4 mg/kg B.W.) or saline was injected subcutaneously on postnatal days 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 to male and female littermates which were used in the experiments after postnatal day 60. In the first experiment male and female littermates were bilaterally gonadectomized and bled serially for the next 72 h. At 0 h plasma FSH concentrations in MSG-treated rats were lower (p less than 0.05) than those in saline-treated controls, and for the 72 h immediately following bilateral gonadectomy FSH levels increased parallel to those of the controls, but after a significant delay. In the second experiment, MSG-treated male and female littermates were injected with 0.5 ml of pFF at several intervals following bilateral gonadectomy and decapitated 6 hours later. Injection of pFF significantly suppressed circulating FSH titers in all groups without affecting LH levels. In a third experiment, rats were unilaterally gonadectomized and blood samples were obtained at various intervals for 48 h. Following unilateral gonadectomy there was a significant transient increase in FSH levels in male or female MSG-treated rats as compared to their 0 h values; however, the absolute levels attained were barely equal to the basal concentrations observed in the saline-treated control rats. The conclusions from these data are: insufficient FSH secretion in response to unilateral gonadectomy may be responsible for the lack of compensatory gonadal hypertrophy in MSG-lesioned rats, pituitary response to inhibin is apparently unaltered by MSG toxicity, and the MSG-lesioned rat is a useful model to study the differential control mechanisms of FSH and LH secretion.  相似文献

Inhibin-like activity is present both in testicular and ovarian fluids. Various methods can be used for the detection of this activity. Indirect methods, using organ weights as an endpoint, lack the specificity required for reliable estimation of inhibin-like activity. With in-vivo bioassay systems, using estimation of circulating concentrations of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) in intact or gonadectomized, immature or adult, male or female rats, a suppression of FSH concentrations only is usually observed after injection of inhibin-like material. The largest suppression of FSH concentrations can be obtained in short-term gonadectomized adult female or 35-day-old male rats. Addition of inhibin-like activity to cultured pituitary cells specifically suppresses the spontaneous release of FSH from the cells. After stimulation of cultured pituitary cells with LH-releasing hormone (LH-RH), the release of both FSH and LH are suppressed when inhibin-like activity is present. From dialysis experiments it appears that the molecular weight of the inhibin-like material in follicular fluid is greater than 10 000. However, acid ethanol extracts of this fluid contain a factor with a molecular weight smaller than 10 000, which does not suppress the spontaneous release of FSH from cultured pituitary cells, but diminishes the LH-RH-stimulated release of both LH and FSH. Furthermore, both follicular fluid and Sertoli cell culture medium can stimulate the release of FSH and LH from pituitary cells when these are cultured without addition of fetal calf serum. These results suggest that gonadal fluids contain several non-steroidal factors which can influence the release of gonadotrophins from pituitary cells.  相似文献

Anterior pituitary glands from frogs gonadectomized (gonadx) for various periods (0-90 days) were labeled in vitro with 35S-methionine. Shortly (7-10 days) after gonadx, plasma levels and the in vitro basal pituitary secretion of LH and FSH are elevated compared to values in sham-operated frogs. However, LH and FSH become dissociated in long-term (over 40 days) gonadx frogs; FSH remains elevated while LH returns to sham levels. Gth (gonadotropin: LH and FSH) synthesis shows a similar pattern. Gth synthesis becomes elevated after gonadx, but returns to sham levels after 80 days. In short-term (15 days) gonadx females, LH and FSH each comprise approximately the same percentage of counts immunoprecipitated. In contrast, in long-term (90 days) gonadx females, nearly 100% of Gth synthesis can be accounted for solely by FSH; LH synthesis is barely or not detectable. Although the elevated in vitro secretion rate of LH and FSH following gonadx diminishes within 24 h in culture, Gth synthesis remains elevated. This study demonstrates that although the pattern of Gth secretion and synthesis generally parallel each other following gonadx, these two cellular processes can be dissociated from one another. Furthermore, it appears that in frogs, not only the secretion, but also the synthesis, of LH and FSH may be under independent regulation.  相似文献

In male rats, LH pulse frequency and amplitude increase dramatically by 24 h after gonadectomy; in females they increase only slightly by this time. Mean FSH levels increase significantly in both sexes by 24 h after gonadectomy. The objectives of the present studies were to compare pulsatile LH, FSH, and prolactin (PRL) secretion in intact versus gonadectomized and in male versus female rats, and to determine whether the acute postovariectomy lag in LH rise is due to a lingering effect of the higher PRL and/or progesterone (P) levels seen in intact females. LH pulse amplitude, frequency, and mean levels increased significantly by 24 h after gonadectomy in both sexes, but the increases were greater in the males. FSH mean levels, but not pulse amplitude or frequency, increased similarly in both sexes by 24 h after gonadectomy. PRL did not change with gonadectomy. Treatment with CB-154 (a dopamine agonist), with or without RU486 (a P antagonist), 1 h before gonadectomy significantly suppressed pulsatile PRL secretion 1 day later in both sexes. There was no effect of either treatment on LH secretion. We have demonstrated that there is a sex difference in LH, but not FSH or PRL, pulsatility at 24 h after gonadectomy, and that female rats' higher PRL and P levels do not account for their slow rate of LH rise after ovariectomy.  相似文献

Gonadotropins are important regulators of reproduction. To develop molecular resources for production of recombinant gonadotropins, we have cloned and sequenced complementary DNA encoding the channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), which encode 132 and 140 amino acid proteins, respectively. The deduced amino acid sequences of the catfish FSH and LH are highly conserved with those cloned from other teleosts. Both the FSH and the LH were highly induced during ovulation after injection of carp pituitary extract. Taken together with our previous findings of enhanced expression of growth hormone and other pituitary hormones, this research suggests that a hormonal cocktail may be needed for more efficient manipulation of catfish reproduction. The availability of the catfish FSH and LH cDNAs provides the opportunity for production of immunologically or biologically active recombinant gonadotropins for the study of catfish reproductive physiology and the manipulation of artificial spawning for aquaculture. Anterior pituitary glands were removed from 27 intact cycling rhesus monkeys sacrificed in the early (Day 2), mid (Days 6--9) and late (Days 11--12) follicular phase, and in the early and late luteal phase (3--5 and 10--15 days after the midcycle luteinizing hormone (LH) surge). Assignment of cycle stage was confirmed by the pattern of circulating steroid and gonadotropin levels seen in the blood samples taken daily throughout the cycle. The anterior pituitary glands were weighed, stored at -30 degrees C and assayed for LH and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) content by specific radioimmunoassays. Serum estradiol levels and pituitary LH and FSH contents rose simultaneously during the follicular phase. After the preovulatory gonadotropin surge, pituitary LH content was low and invariant. Pituitary FSH content reached a nadir in the early luteal phase and tended to rise in the late luteal phase. Multiple correlation analyses revealed that there is a positive correlation between rising levels of estradiol in the circulation and pituitary LH (p = 0.003) and FSH (p = 0.017) content, and that there is a significant negative correlation between circulating progesterone levels and pituitary FSH content (p = 0.002). Pituitary LH content is less strongly related to circulating progesterone levels. There was no significant difference in the wet weights of the anterior pituitary glands during the five phases of the menstrual cycle studied.  相似文献

Information on the pituitary gonadotropins in Chelonia mydasrepresents some of the most complete data available for anyreptile and thus provides an important basis for evaluatingevolutionary processes in tetrapod endocrine physiology. Thetwo gonadotropins isolated from Chelonia pituitary glands showclear chemical and immunological homologies to mammalian follicle-stimulatinghormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). However, receptorstudies and biological tests indicate that the functions ofthese hormones may be different in turtles and mammals. In particular,Chelonia LH shows an unusual ability to interact with FSH receptorsites and to stimulate physiological functions normally attributedto FSH. Results with Chelonia LH demonstrate that errors mayarise from using mammalian hormones to investigate reproductionin turtles. Measurements of endogenous gonadotropin levels inthe plasma of breeding and nesting Chelonia provide a differentperspective of the potential roles of the FSH and LH from thatobtained in physiological tests. In particular, FSH and LH secretionare markedly dissociated during the nesting cycle; FSH has onlya transient peak during oviposition, whereas LH, along withprogesterone, displays a pronounced "ovulatory" surge in theday following nesting. Preliminary studies with synthetic gonadotropicreleasing factors in Chelonia suggest that these may be usefulin inducing reproductive changes.  相似文献

A synthetic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (Gn-RH) was administered to female and male adult bovines in order to study the release of luteinizing and follicle-stimulating hormones into blood by the pituitary gland. Plasma LH and FSH were determined by means of a radioimmunological method. In females as well as in males, increasing doses of Gn-RH (range 50 to 1500 μg) administered i.v. or i.m. caused a linear increase in plasma LH. The release of FSH evidently was curvilinear over the same dosage range. After 2 or 3 injections of Gn-RH every 3 hours, or every 24 hours or more, smaller amounts of LH were released; repeated treatment did not result in reduction of FSH. Thus pituitary depletion of LH occurred more readily than FSH. The effect of Gn-RH on plasma levels of LH and FSH at various stages of the estrous cycle shows a tendency for an increasing release of both gonadotropins on Days 17 – 18 in comparison to Days 4 – 5 or Days 11 – 12.The results suggest that, within the limits allowed by the heterogenous FSH assay and the method of administration used in these experiments, synthetic Gn-RH does not evoke completely normal physiological responses. Therefore, further work is needed to determine its role in improving reproductive function.  相似文献

Effects of estrogen, pituitary gonadotropins and prolactin on immunohistochemical localization of alpha- and beta A-subunits in the ovaries of hypophysectomized female rats were investigated. Hypophysectomy resulted in disappearance of immunoreactive inhibin subunits in the ovary. Administration of DES, FSH and LH to hypophysectomized rats provoked growth of follicles, and resulted in positive immunostaining for inhibin subunits in the granulosa cells. In contrast to follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), prolactin administration failed to demonstrate positive staining for inhibin subunits in the ovary. The present in vivo results suggest that several hormones which are known to stimulate granulosa cell growth and maturation, such as estrogen, FSH and LH, enhance inhibin subunit production by the ovary. The morphologic aspect of inhibin subunit production by the ovary in response to several hormones has been demonstrated in the present study.  相似文献

In gonadectomized rats of either sex s.c. administration of 5 alpha-dihydrotestosterone (DHT) reversed, in a dose dependent manner, effects brought about by gonadectomy: it decreased pituitary wet weight and serum levels of LH and FSH and suppressed microsomal enzyme activities involved in testosterone and progesterone metabolism in the pituitary gland, NADPH-linked 5 alpha-reductase and NADH-linked 3 alpha-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3 alpha-HSDH). Concomitantly administered nonsteroidal antiandrogen, flutamide (5 mg/day), antagonized some of the suppressive effects induced by a 14-day treatment of gonadectomized rats with high dose (1 mg/day) of DHT. It completely blocked DHT action on pituitary 5 alpha-reductase activity in the female rat and, in the male, inhibition was found to be 30-35%. In male, but not female rats, it completely blocked DHT suppression of serum FSH level whereas it slightly, but significantly inhibited DHT suppression of serum LH in rats of either sex. However, flutamide did not prevent DHT suppression of pituitary wet weight or NADH-linked 3 alpha-HSDH activity. Concomitantly administered progestational antiandrogen, cyproterone acetate (5 mg/day), inhibited DHT-induced weight increase of seminal vesicles by 50-55% and completely blocked the weight decrease of pituitary gland but did not antagonize DHT suppression of serum gonadotropins or pituitary enzyme activities. The results obtained with flutamide suggest that DHT-induced suppression of pituitary NADPH-linked 5 alpha-reductase, but not NADH-linked 3 alpha-HSDH activity, might involve an androgen receptor mechanism.  相似文献

In all mammalian females, follicular growth and maturation are essentially dependent on the pituitary gonadotropins, FSH and LH. These glycoprotein hormones have many similarities, but their action, based on high affinity binding to specific membrane receptors, are quite different. The purpose of this study was to perform a sensitive localization of FSH and LH in secretory granules of gonadotrophs using highly specific antisera. This morphological study included light microscopy (PAP) and electron microscopy (immunogold single and double labeling) procedures. Histologically, approximatively 11.5% of cells were positive for LH, whereas only 5.4% of cells were positive for FSH. With the electron microscope, single labeling allowed identification of morphologically distinct LH-containing cells and FSH-containing cells. Double immunostaining confirmed that no cells contained both hormones. The finding that FSH and LH are produced in separate pituitary cells is in agreement with recent studies that have suggested a specific role and regulatory process for gonadotropins in the bovine species.  相似文献

Treatment of GnRH-deficient (hpg) female mice with oestradiol-17 beta (E2) for 7 days increased GnRH receptors from 4.1 +/- 0.4 fmol/pituitary (control) to 7.2 +/- 0.7 fmol/pituitary (GnRH-treated), and consistently increased pituitary FSH content. Treatment of hpg female mice with E2 plus progesterone (P) for 14 days stimulated GnRH receptors more than did E2 alone, although values still remained lower than those of normal intact female mice. In contrast, GnRH treatment of intact hpg female mice alone, or combined with E2 + P, increased GnRH receptors to values similar to those of intact normal female mice. In contrast, the receptor rise after GnRH treatment alone of ovariectomized hpg mice was significantly less than in intact hpg mice similarly treated. However, the combination of GnRH + E2 + P treatment of ovariectomized hpg mice increased GnRH receptors to normal intact female values, indicating the synergistic actions of these hormones on GnRH receptor up-regulation at the pituitary. Oestradiol treatment of ovariectomized normal female mice prevented the receptor fall after ovariectomy, and when combined with exogenous GnRH further increased receptors to values identical to those of intact female mice receiving GnRH alone. Ovariectomy of hpg mice had no effect on GnRH receptor, serum or pituitary LH and FSH values. There was no change in serum LH concentration after GnRH treatment of hpg female mice, but serum FSH increased and this was accentuated by ovariectomy, indicating that in intact mice an ovarian factor(s) normally inhibits GnRH-stimulated FSH release. This factor did not appear to be an ovarian steroid since serum FSH was not suppressed in intact or ovariectomized GnRH-treated hpg mice concurrently receiving E2 + P treatment. These results suggest that: (1) gonadal steroids alone have a major direct stimulatory action on the pituitary to increase GnRH receptors; (2) the oestrogen-induced increase in GnRH receptors is enhanced in the presence of GnRH; (3) steroids exert inhibitory feedback on gonadotrophin secretion that is mediated at some cellular regulatory locus other than the GnRH-receptor complex.  相似文献

When ovaries are removed prior to puberty, administration of exogenous 17 beta-estradiol (E2) decreases concentrations of luteinizing hormone (LH) below that of ovariectomized heifers receiving no E2. Subsequent to the time age-matched intact heifers reach puberty, exogenous E2 increases secretion of LH in ovariectomized heifers above that of ovariectomized heifers receiving no E2. The hypothesis that E2 would inhibit gonadotropin secretion in bovine males during the time E2 no longer inhibited gonadotropin secretion in age-matched bovine females was tested. Males (n = 12) and females (n = 12) were gonadectomized at 241 +/- 3 days of age, and half of each sex (6 males and 6 females) were administered a 27-cm E2 implant. An additional group of males (n = 6) and females (n = 6) remained intact and served as controls. Blood samples were collected (to quantify LH and follicle-stimulating hormone [FSH]) from all animals at 15-min intervals for 24 h at 1, 7, 13, 17, 21, 25, 29, 33, 37, and 43 wk after gonadectomy. Additional blood samples were collected twice weekly from control females to monitor progesterone and onset of corpus luteum function (451 days of age). E2 inhibited frequency of pulses of LH (p less than 0.01) and decreased mean concentration of LH and FSH (p less than 0.01) at Week 1 in gonadectomized males treated with E2 compared to gonadectomized males not administered E2.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献
