Samples of the microalgaBotryococcus braunii were submitted to supercritical fluid extraction with carbon dioxide at 40 °C and pressures of 12.5, 20.0 and 30.0 MPa. The extraction yield and the fraction of the hydrocarbons in the extracts both increased with pressure and at 30 MPa these compounds were obtained rapidly. This behaviour is associated with the localization of the hydrocarbons outside the cell wall. In the extracts, which are fluid, golden and limpid, chlorophyll and phospholipids were not detected.Author for correspondence  相似文献

A wide range of fungi were tested for their ability to assimilate a series of hydrocarbons, which includedn-paraffins, aromatic hydrocarbons and petroleum fractions.The property is not evenly distributed among the various fungal classes, but is to be found mainly in two orders, the Mucorales and the Moniliales. Within the latter order, the generaAspergillus andPenicillium are rich in hydrocarbon-assimilating strains. In other genera, the property of assimilating hydrocarbons is relatively rare.Hydrocarbon assimilation is not necessarily common to related species, nor proper to one species, but more the property of individual strains. Different strains belonging to the same species differ in metabolic activity when they are tested against a series of hydrocarbons. The property of assimilating hydrocarbons appears to lack taxonomic value. Species of the same genus show only a tendency to behave in a similar way, e.g.Penicillium strains usually assimilaten-decane and light gas oil whereasAspergillus strains seldom do so. Aspergillus species sporulate better on long chainn-paraffins. On some hydrocarbons, they develop particular pigments. n-Paraffins with at least ten carbon atoms support better growth than petroleum fractions. Individual strains are very sensitive to minor changes in hydrocarbon composition or structure. Only sparse delayed growth is observed on aromatic hydrocarbons.n-Heptane, petroleum ether, naphtha and kerosene are often toxic whereas aromatic hydrocarbons are usually non-toxic.  相似文献

The cuticular lipids of 37 species of beetles (Coleoptera), 12 of which belong to the suborder Adephaga and 25 to the suborder Polyphaga, were analysed. They were found to consist almost exclusively of hydrocarbons. GLC and MS analyses revealed distinct patterns of hydrocarbons comprising alkanes, alkenes and alkadienes, 2-, 3- and internally branched monomethylalkanes as well as dimethyl-branched alkanes. These patterns depend on the species but exhibit conformity at the super-family or family level. The utility of cuticular hydrocarbons for coleopterous chemosystematics is discussed.  相似文献

Currently, studies often focus on the use of Poaceae species (grasses) for phytoremediation of hydrocarbon-contaminated soils. Research into the use of Fabaceae species (legumes) to remediate hydrocarbons in soils has been conducted, but these plants are commonly overlooked due to slower recorded rates of degradation compared with many grass species. Evidence in the literature suggests that in some cases Fabaceae species may increase total degradation of hydrocarbons and stimulate degradative capacity of the soil microbial community, particularly for contaminants which are normally more recalcitrant to degradation. As many recalcitrant hydrocarbons have negative impacts on human and ecosystem health, development of remediation options is crucial. Reconsideration of Fabaceae species for removal of such contaminants may lead to environmentally and economically sustainable technologies for remediation of contaminated sites.  相似文献

If sexual selection is to result in speciation, traits involved in mate choice within species need to be capable of producing sexual isolation between species. We investigated the association between mate choice and sexual isolation using interspecific hybrids between two sibling species, Drosophila serrata and Drosophila birchii. A perfuming experiment demonstrated that olfaction was involved in the sexual isolation between the two species. A quantitative genetic analysis using 30 populations of hybrids between the two species indicated that mating success in hybrid individuals was predominately determined by cuticular hydrocarbons; the average genetic correlation between mating success and cuticular hydrocarbon profile was 0.84, and in some instances exceeded 0.95. Multivariate analysis of the cuticular hydrocarbons of the two species revealed that there were three independent blends of cuticular hydrocarbons that separated three levels of organization: species, sex, and sex within species. The hydrocarbons used by hybrids in mate choice included those that separated the two species, demonstrating that species-specific characters may be used in mate choice within populations. The interspecific reciprocal cross had major effect on which cuticular hydrocarbons were associated with mating success, indicating that the expression of the cuticular hydrocarbons was strongly sex linked.  相似文献

SYNOPSIS. Many bioassays have shown that cuticular hydrocarbonsare used in the recognition systems of both solitary and socialinsects. The function of insect recognition systems is to enablean insect to recognize, and possibly discriminate, its own species,sex, or kin from that of other insects. The primary functionof cuticular hydrocarbons is to protect the insects from desiccation.Hydrocarbons can be removed from insect cuticles and characterizedwith gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Studies using suchanalytical techniques have revealed that insect hydrocarboncompositions are species-specific, sex-specific and, in socialinsects, colony- and caste-specific. Furthermore, recognitionbioassays have confirmed that certain components of the cuticleof some insect species are sex attractants as well as aphrodisiacsor sex inhibitors. Other bioassays have shown that hydrocarbonsare important in facilitating colony structure in social insects.In addition, the hydrocarbons of some parasitic insects appearto mimic those of their host species. Thus, hydrocarbons areproving to be very important in the everyday activities of manyinsect species.  相似文献

Sexual dimorphism is presumed to reflect adaptive divergence in response to selection favouring different optimal character states in the two sexes. Here, we analyse patterns of sexual dimorphism in the cuticular hydrocarbons of the Australian field cricket Teleogryllus oceanicus using gas chromatography. Ten of the 25 peaks found in our chromatographs, differed in their relative abundance between the sexes. The presence of sexual dimorphism in T. oceanicus is discussed in reference to a review of sexual dimorphism in cuticular hydrocarbons of other insects. We found that this trait has been examined in 103 species across seven different orders. Seventy-six of these species (73%) displayed sex specificity of cuticular hydrocarbons, the presence/absence of which does not appear to be directly linked to phylogeny. The occurrence of sexual dimorphism in cuticular hydrocarbons of some but not other species, and the extent of variation within genera, suggest that this divergence has been driven primarily by sexual selection.  相似文献

Female moths of many species in Geometridae, Arctiidae and some other macrolepidopteran families produce epoxy pheromones, which are probably derived from polyunsaturated hydrocarbons. In order to understand a biosynthetic site, hemolymph from both sexes of two geometrid species, Ascotis selenaria cretacea and Hemerophila artilineata, and one arctiid species, Spilosoma imparilis, was shaken with n-hexane and the solvent extracts were analyzed by GC-MS. Each extract of the female hemolymph sex-specifically included polyunsaturated hydrocarbons corresponding to the pheromonal epoxy components in addition to many saturated hydrocarbons, but no epoxy compounds were detected in it. Based on this analysis, deuterated polyunsaturated hydrocarbons were injected into the abdomens of two geometrid females, and the labeled epoxy components were successfully yielded from the pheromone glands. This result indicated that the polyunsaturated hydrocarbons occurring in the female hemolymph were direct pheromone precursors, which might be produced outside the pheromone gland, probably in oenocytes associated with abdominal epidermal cells or in the fat body, and transported to the pheromone gland via the hemolymph for their epoxydation and emission into the atmosphere.  相似文献

A choline-containing phospholipid (PL-4) in Methanopyrus kandleri cells was identified as archaetidylcholine, which has been described by Sprott et al. (1997). The PL-4 consisted of a variety of molecular species differing in hydrocarbon composition. Most of the PL-4 was acid-labile because of its allyl ether bond. The identity of PL-4 was confirmed by thin-layer chromatography followed by positive staining with Dragendorff reagent and fast-atom bombardment-mass spectrometry. A new method of LiAlH4 hydrogenolysis was developed to cleave allyl ether bonds and recover the corresponding hydrocarbons. We confirmed the validity of the LiAlH4 method in a study of the model compound synthetic unsaturated archaetidic acid (2,3-di-O-geranylgeranyl-sn-glycerol-1-phosphate). Saturated ether bonds were not cleaved by the LiAlH4 method. The hydrocarbons formed following LiAlH4 hydrogenolysis of PL-4 were identified by gas-liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry. Four kinds of hydrocarbons with one to four double bonds were detected: 47% of the hydrocarbons had four double bonds; 11% had three double bonds; 14% had two double bonds; 7% had one double bond; and 6% were saturated species. The molecular species composition of PL-4 was also estimated based on acid lability: 77% of the molecular species had two acid-labile hydrocarbons; 11% had one acid-labile and one acid-stable hydrocarbon; and 11% had two acid-stable hydrocarbons. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a specific chemical degradation method for the structural analysis of allyl ether phospholipid in archaea.  相似文献

近年来, 固相微萃取等现代技术的使用显著促进了白蚁表皮碳氢化合物研究的开展。至今, 已有约29种白蚁的表皮碳氢化合物组分得到鉴定, 分属于木白蚁科、 鼻白蚁科、 原白蚁科和白蚁科, 其组分主要为正烷烃、 含有不同数量甲基的支链烷烃及少量烯烃。白蚁表皮碳氢化合物不仅具有一定的科、 属特异性, 大多数种类还具备特有组分, 表明其可作为种间识别的指标。表皮碳氢化合物组分在种内个体识别方面的作用, 在低等白蚁中多获得了支持性结果, 但也有研究认为在这些种类中表皮碳氢化合物不是种内个体识别(同巢个体识别)的唯一指标。发现其与品级分化的相关是近年来白蚁表皮碳氢化合物研究的重要进展。有些种类表皮碳氢化合物的年消长与生殖蚁的分化有关; 而另一些种类生殖蚁含有表皮碳氢化合物特有组分, 其含量与生殖蚁的生殖状态有关, 提示其可能在品级分化中发挥重要作用。作为研究白蚁品级分化和维持机理的新方向, 表皮碳氢化合物值得进一步研究探索。  相似文献

Major degraders of petroleum hydrocarbons in tropical seas have been indicated only by laboratory culturing and never through observing the bacterial community structure in actual environments. To demonstrate the major degraders of petroleum hydrocarbons spilt in actual tropical seas, indigenous bacterial community in seawater at Sentosa (close to a port) and East Coast Park (far from a port) in Singapore was analyzed. Bacterial species was more diverse at Sentosa than at the Park, and the composition was different: γ-Proteobacteria (57.3%) dominated at Sentosa, while they did not at the Park. Specialized hydrocarbonoclastic bacteria (SHCB), which use limited carbon sources with a preference for petroleum hydrocarbons, were found as abundant species at Sentosa, indicating petroleum contamination. On the other hand, SHCB were not the abundant species at the Park. The abundant species of SHCB at Sentosa were Oleibacter marinus and Alcanivorax species (strain 2A75 type), which have previously been indicated by laboratory culturing as important petroleum-aliphatic-hydrocarbon degraders in tropical seas. Together with the fact that SHCB have been identified as major degraders of petroleum hydrocarbons in marine environments, these results demonstrate that the O. marinus and Alcanivorax species (strain 2A75 type) would be major degraders of petroleum aliphatic hydrocarbons spilt in actual tropical seas.  相似文献

Indices of the effects on the leaves of a number of plant species of members of homologous series of hydrocarbons and certain of their oil-soluble derivatives were based on changes in conductance of aqueous systems when hydrocarbon-treated leaves were added. The results were compared with previous phytotoxicity studies where hydrocarbons were applied to plants in vapour and in aqueous treatments. A relationship between the conductance changes and the physical properties of the applied hydrocarbons is suggested. The presumed effects on cell membrane permeability indicated by the conductance changes agreed with known susceptibility of different plant species towards hydrocarbons of different homologous series applied in the liquid state.  相似文献

Serological kinship of some representative species of arthropods belonging to Crustacea, Arachnida, Myriapoda and Insecta has been studied. There ist weak serological correspondence between the myriapods and insects. The same is the case between Crustacea and Arachnida, and no correspondence was seen between Myriapoda and Insecta on one hand and Crustacea and Arachnida on the other. The results are discussed in relation to the different previous views on the origin and evolution of Arthropoda.  相似文献

Capillary gas-liquid chromatography was used to analyse the cuticular hydrocarbons of three triatomine species, Triatoma dimidiata, T. barberi and Dipetalogaster maxima, domestic vectors of Chagas disease in Mexico. Mixtures of saturated hydrocarbons of straight and methyl-branched chains were characteristic of the three species, but quantitatively different. Major methylbranched components mostly corresponded to different saturated isomers of monomethyl, dimethyl and trimethyl branched hydrocarbons ranging from 29 to 39 carbon backbones. Sex-dependent, quantitative differences in certain hydrocarbons were apparent in T. dimidiata.  相似文献

35S-labeled proteins carried by fast axonal transport in sciatic sensory axons of bullfrog and rat were separated electrophoretically on discontinuous polyacrylamide gradient slab gels. In contrast to the previously reported similarity in the electrophoretic profiles of rapidly transported proteins from functionally different neurons, we have found that there is very little correspondence in the profiles of these proteins in functionally similar neurons from two widely studied species. We also found very little correspondence between the two species in the profiles of locally synthesized sciatic nerve protein. The results demonstrate the difficulty inherent in comparing the electrophoretic profiles obtained using these two model systems for the study of rapidly transported axonal proteins. In particular, relationships between the major rapidly transported proteins in the two species could_not be analyzed with this technique.  相似文献

Diversity of ants of the Tetramorium caespitum/impurum complex was investigated in a multidisciplinary study. Focusing on morphologically hardly distinguishable Western Palearctic samples, we demonstrate the genetic and phenotypic diversity, demarcate phylogenetic entities, and discuss the clades in terms of biogeography. Sequences of 1113bp of the mitochondrial COI gene revealed 13 lineages. COII data, worker morphometry and male genitalia morphology corroborated the COI results for seven lineages; the remaining six were disregarded because of small sample size. A comparison with published data on cuticular hydrocarbons showed correspondence. The seven entities show different distribution patterns, though some ranges overlap in Central Europe. Since no major discrepancy between the results of the different disciplines became apparent, we conclude that the seven entities within the T. caespitum/impurum complex represent seven species. Geographical evidence allows the identification of T. caespitum and T. impurum, and we therefore designate neotypes and redescribe the two species in terms of morphology and mtDNA. As the revision of about 50 taxon names would go beyond the scope of this study, we refer to the remaining five species under code names. We discuss our findings in terms of plesiomorphy and convergent evolution by visualizing the mtDNA phylogeny in morphological space.  相似文献

Aliphatic hydrocarbons are one of the main components of oil contamination. Bioremediation is considered to be a cost-effective treatment option among the conventional treatment methods with bioavailability being the limitation. Chemical surfactants could be used to increase the bioavailability of the hydrocarbons but they showed marked toxicity and environmental pollution. Cyclodextrins are cyclic oligosaccharides which can alter the solubility of the hydrocarbons by incorporating suitably sized hydrophobic molecules into their hydrophobic cavities. This paper focuses on studying the degradation of hydrocarbons by Pseudomonas like species named as Vid1 isolated previously from bilge oil contaminated waters in the presence of cyclodextrins. Among the three cyclodextrins (α, β and γ) tested at different concentrations, 2.5 mM of β-cyclodextrin showed higher amount of biodegradation when n-hexadecane was used as a model hydrocarbon compound. The percentage of residual hexadecane remaining in the 2.5 mM β-cyclodextrin supplied medium at 120 h was found to be 15% in comparison with the biotic control which was 43%. In the next experimental setup, degradation of mixture of hydrocarbons (tetradecane, hexadecane and octadecane) by Vid1 (Pseudomonas like species) was studied at a concentration of 2.5 mM β-cyclodextrin. The residual percentage of tetradecane, hexadecane and octadecane at 120 h was found to be 32, 43 and 61% in comparison with the biotic control 50, 58 and 67%, respectively. Our studies show that among a mixture of hydrocarbons (tetradecane, hexadecane and octadecane) in the presence of β-cyclodextrin, the highest concentration of hydrocarbon degradation was found in tetradecane, hexadecane and octadecane, respectively.  相似文献

The isotope ratio of monoterpene hydrocarbons was used to characterize the citrus essential oils from different species and hybrids. Citrus cold-pressed peel oils from Vietnam were analyzed for the composition and isotope ratio of monoterpene hydrocarbons by using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. A profile of citrus essential oils on the basis of their isotope ratio values and levels of monoterpene hydrocarbons was developed for Vietnamese citrus. The molecular isotope ratios were lower than those calculated from natural abundance of 13C and 2H. In addition, the isotope ratio of the base peaks (m/z 94/93) was significantly different among the citrus essential oils from different species and hybrids. The results would be applicable for the characterization of citrus essential oils from different origins.  相似文献

Quantification of character-species using Dahl's uniformity index is tested on phytosociological data using species composition of tree limit communities on the south slope of the Brooks Range, Northern Alaska as an example. Species in 246 relevés are grouped by minimum spanning tree (MST) analysis. The resulting six species groups are ordinated in a congruent pattern by detrended correspondence analysis along the two main axes of mesotopographic-scale nutrient and moisture gradients. The eutraphent species are restricted to the more fertile sites of the undulating topography in this permafrost area. Uniformity indices are highest for the species in eutrophic sites with average frequencies. In contrast, most oligotraphent species are ubiquitous and occur even within the more eutrophic communities on raised mounds, shallow soils and in the exposed rocky areas. In general, their high frequency and low uniformity indices confirm that they are not useful as characterspecies.
