Reproduction potential and biometry of somatic characteristics of the common vole Microtus arvalis were evaluated and discussed. The results were processed on the basis of an extensive material (2,171 individuals) from the whole territory of Slovakia (315 sites situated at altitudes from 100 to 1500 m above sea level). Among the somatic characteristics studied, the highest variability was found in body length and the smallest in hind foot length. Highly significant differences were also found between the foot length of adult males and females. Populations of M. arvalis at low altitudes were less numerous than at higher altitudes. Altitudinal differences in average embryo numbers in female uteri as well as differences in follicle length in males during the reproductive season were also observed.  相似文献

对青藏高原东缘 5个不同海拔高度 ( 2 4 2 6m、2 75 0 m、32 0 0 m、3484m和 3944m)上旷地和林下遮荫条件下匍匐茎草本野草莓的分株种群特征进行了研究。结果显示 :无论在旷地或林下遮荫条件下 ,野草莓分株种群的密度随海拔升高显著减小 ,旷地条件下野草莓分株种群密度显著高于遮荫条件下的分株种群密度。不同海拔高度上 ,野草莓分株种群密度在不同光照条件下的变化存在显著差异。旷地条件下 ,随海拔升高其根冠比呈二次曲线变化。林下遮荫条件下 ,海拔 2 4 2 6m处的根冠比最低。光照条件的变化对野草莓分株种群的根冠比没有显著影响。运用空间自相关分析法 ( Moran` I)研究和 3944m处野草莓分株种群的空间分布格局 ,结果显示野草莓分株种群在多个尺度上呈现非随机分布格局 ,其中研究了海拔 348m处 d=1( 0 .2 m)尺度的集聚分布格局频率最高 ;与海拔 3484m相比 ,3944m处野草莓分株种群的集聚尺度更大。最后 ,结合克隆植物对环境的生态适应意义进行了讨论。  相似文献

在青藏高原和四川盆地过渡带,分别于618m和1800m两个海拔高度上研究匍匐茎克隆植物过路黄(Lysimachia christinae)在资源交互斑块性生境中的克隆内资源共享及其对生长的影响.结果显示, 在海拔1800m处,与资源的空间同质性处理(Ⅰ) 和(Ⅱ)相比, 资源的空间异质性处理(Ⅲ)和(Ⅳ)下过路黄整个克隆片段的生物量和分株数均获得显著增加;在海拔618m处,与资源的空间同质性处理(Ⅰ) 和(Ⅱ)相比,资源的空间异质性处理(Ⅲ)和(Ⅳ)下过路黄整个克隆片段生物量显著增加.在海拔618m和1800m处,生长在低光高养条件下的远端分株, 若与高光低养的近端分株相连, 相比连接到低光高养的近端分株, 它们分配更多的生物量到地下部分;在海拔1800m处,生长在高光低养条件下的远端分株, 若与低光高养的近端分株相连, 相比连接到高光低养的近端分株, 它们分配更多的生物量到地上部分.在海拔618m和1800m处,生长在高光低养条件下的近端分株, 若与低光高养的远端分株相连, 相比连接到高光低养的远端分株, 它们分配更多的生物量到地上部分.处于资源交互斑块性生境中的过路黄发生了克隆内分工,依靠相连分株间的功能分化, 克隆植物能有效的利用异质性分布的资源, 缓解资源交互斑块性分布对克隆植物生长的不利影响.通过间隔子(匍匐茎或根状茎),相连分株间能够相互传递和共享由不同分株获得的资源,这种资源共享能够提高克隆植物在异质性生境中的存活与生长.同时,方差分析显示环境异质性和海拔的交互作用显著影响克隆片段的生物量和分株数.相比于海拔618m,在海拔1800m处克隆内资源共享对克隆植物生长表现的影响更大.  相似文献

A few avian species breed at altitudes up to 6500 m. Embryos in eggs laid at high altitudes are confronted with the problem that gases diffuse more rapidly at low barometric pressure than at sea level. Data on birds breeding up to 4500 m indicate that modifications in eggshell structure and embryonic physiology foster successful development in these groups. At moderate altitudes (up to 3600 m), shell conductance to gases (corrected to 760 torr) is decreased in approximate proportion to the reduction in barometric pressure, thus offsetting the increased tendency of gases to diffuse. At altitudes above 4000 m, the conductance is increased above levels at moderate altitudes, thus fostering improvement in oxygen availability, while increasing rates of water and CO2 losses. Above 4000 m, embryonic physiological properties become increasingly important for coping with hypoxic, hypocapnic, and dehydrated conditions inside the shell. Nothing is known about characteristics of eggshells and embryos in eggs laid between 4500 and 6500 m. Despite years of artificial selection, domestic fowl do not breed successfully much above 3000 m. Embryos of domestic fowl appear highly sensitive to the effects of hypoxia.  相似文献

Abstract The effects of solar irradiation on chlorophyll a fluorescence and photosynthetic oxygen production of three Cryptomonas species, Euglena gracilis and Scenedesmus cf. quadricauda were investigated in comparative field studies in Erlangen (280 m above sea level) and at Zugspitze (2957 m above sea level). The experiments showed that the decrease of fluorescence and the inhibition of photosynthetic oxygen production occurred after shorter times of exposure to solar radiation at Zugspitze compared to Erlangen in all tested organisms. Cryptomonas maculata was more sensitive towards radiation than the other organisms: fluorescence decreased earlier, while Scenedesmus cf. quadricauda seemed to be much less sensitive since fluorescence and photosynthetic oxygen production decreased later and to a smaller extent compared to the other organisms. The results of the present study indicate that increased solar radiation (with an increased level of UV-B radiation) at higher geographical altitudes may have significant effects on phytoplankton populations.  相似文献

对生长于青藏高原东北部3个不同海拔地区(2300、2700和3800m)的火绒草叶片的光合特性进行了比较研究。结果发现,随着海拔的升高,叶绿素含量有降低的趋势,而叶绿素a/b比值及类胡萝卜素相对含量呈上升趋势。与海拔2300m处的相比,生长于海拔3800m处的火绒草的净光合速率、表观量子效率和光补偿点较低,但光饱和点较高。研究表明,火绒草在光合特性上的变化是对逆境的一种适应.是青藏高原特殊生态条件长期胁迫的结果。  相似文献

Eudonia mawsoni, the only moth breeding on subantarctic Macquarie Island, was sampled to measure density and sex ratios in different habitats and at different altitudes, and to investigate the distribution of colour morphs. Sites sampled ranged in altitude from 20 to 433 m above sea level, and included mire, short grassland, herbfield, feldmark and moss. Adult moths were widespread, occurring from sea level to the highest mountain (433 m a.s.l.). Mean density ranged from 0 to 2.3 m–2. Frequencies of males and females differed significantly for only 6 of the 24 sampling events, with males predominant at 5 of those 6. Females predominated only in collections from a pure moss site, where they appeared to gather to oviposit. In some vegetation types, moth sex proportions differed significantlly from average proportions, with the proportion of females elevated in feldmark and moss, and depressed in mire. Colour morph distribution was significantly affected by both sex and altitude, with females darker than males and both sexes with a greater proportion of darker individuals at higher altitudes. Larvae occurred at sites ranging from sea level to 370 m a.s.l., usually in mosses. Their diet included mosses and some non-moss plant material.  相似文献

The paper presents the results of the comparative study of the EEG at alpine altitudes (Tuya -- Ashu pass, 3200 m) and at low altitudes (City of Frunze, 760 m above the sea level). The dynamics of EEG changes at different stages of adaptation to hypoxia is also traced. The obtained data show that the alpine hypoxia produces a considerable intensification of the excitation processes in the cerebral cortex. Different sensitivity to the oxigen shortage has been found in the frontal-temporal parts of the right and the left hemispheres.  相似文献

Yushan cane ( Yushania niitakayamensis ) is distributed in southeast Asia. In Taiwan, the species occurs in mountains 1000–3600 m above sea level. The species appears to spread mainly by rhizomes and flowers only rarely. Nine locations across its distribution range in Taiwan were sampled. Locations at higher altitudes generally consist of grassland and forest undergrowth habitats while those of lower altitudes generally consist of forest undergrowth only. Thus two sampling sites (montane grassland and forest undergrowth) were selected from each location at higher altitudes while only one sampling site was selected from each location at lower altitudes, resulting in a total of 13 sampling sites. Within each sampling site, 20 individual plants were sampled. The results of the cluster analysis and the principal coordinate analysis based on random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) indicated that the populations are generally differentiated according to geographical separation and altitudinal differences that interrupt gene flow. The populations at higher altitudes, where the species is distributed somewhat contiguously, were found to be more similar genetically. Analysis of molecular variance ( AMOVA ) revealed that the among-location, between sampling sites within location, and among individuals within sampling site components accounted for 15.27%, 4.80% and 79.93% of the total variance, respectively. For locations with two sampling sites, two-level AMOVA revealed that the diversities between sampling sites (sun and shade habitats) within locations ranged from 2.91% to 7.99% of the total diversity. Random permutation tests revealed that these diversities were significant, implying that there is microgeographic differentiation due to habitat differences.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Cave bears have disappeared from the Alps from different altitudes at different times. The temporal progression of the HDEL (Height Dependent Extinction Line) – a compilation of the geologically most recent radiocarbon dates per altitude level – is not consistent with the general cooling of the temperatures from about 45 ka BP. The cave bear sites of the Northern Alps with the most recent radiocarbon ages are not situated in the lowlands but in caves in altitudes of 1,500 m to 1,700 m above sea level (a.s.l.).

Cave bears fed almost exclusively on herbs and leaves. It was assumed that with the general cooling in the OIS 3 since about 45 ka BP also the migration of the alpine elements into the lowlands took place. It could be recognized that the populations in the lower situated cave bear site became earlier extinct than the cave bear population in the higher altitudes.

With new radiocarbon dates, done at the Curt-Engelhorn-Center Archaeometry at the Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen in Mannheim (Germany), the HDEL can be determined much more precisely and the causes of gradual extinction are also better understood.  相似文献

The thermoregulatory responses to 10 degrees C (for 3 h) were investigated in 1) 12 natives from sea level (lowlanders) at 150 m, and on arrival at 3,350 and 4,340 m; 2) 6 of these during a 6-wk sojourn at 4,360 m, and on return to sea level; and 3) 5 natives from each of the two altitudes (highlanders) in their respective habitat, and after descent to 150 m. The cold-induced increase in the rate of O2 consumption (Vo2) of the lowlanders was significantly smaller at both altitudes than at sea level. It did not recover substantially during the 6 wk at altitude, but was restored to its initial rate on return to sea level. By contrast, visible shivering activity was augmented on arrival at altitude. It persisted throughout the 6 wk there, but was greatly depressed on return to sea level, despite the increased Vo2. Mean skin temperatures (Tsk) stabilized in the cold at significantly higher values at altitude. Rectal temperature (Tre) decreased similarly at all altitudes. Vo2 of the highlanders in the cold was significantly greater at sea level than at their resident altitudes, although shivering activity was less intense; Tsk stabilized at significantly lower levels at 150 m than at either altitude. These results indicate that altitude exposure reduces the calorigenic response of man to cold, and that this effect is not moderated by acclimatization to altitude, yet is reversible immediately on descent to sea level. The component of cold thermogenesis which appeared to be reduced by altitude exposure was nonshivering thermogenesis rather than visible shivering.  相似文献

We measured blood erythropoietin (EPO) concentration, arterial O(2) saturation (Sa(O(2))), and urine PO(2) in 48 subjects (32 men and 16 women) at sea level and after 6 and 24 h at simulated altitudes of 1,780, 2,085, 2,454, and 2,800 m. Renal blood flow (Doppler) and Hb were determined at sea level and after 6 h at each altitude (n = 24) to calculate renal O(2) delivery. EPO increased significantly after 6 h at all altitudes and continued to increase after 24 h at 2,454 and 2,800 m, although not at 1,780 or 2,085 m. The increase in EPO varied markedly among individuals, ranging from -41 to 400% after 24 h at 2,800 m. Similar to EPO, urine PO(2) decreased after 6 h at all altitudes and returned to baseline by 24 h at the two lowest altitudes but remained decreased at the two highest altitudes. Urine PO(2) was closely related to EPO via a curvilinear relationship (r(2) = 0.99), although also with prominent individual variability. Renal blood flow remained unchanged at all altitudes. Sa(O(2)) decreased slightly after 6 h at the lowest altitudes but decreased more prominently at the highest altitudes. There were only modest, albeit statistically significant, relationships between EPO and Sa(O(2)) (r = 0.41, P < 0.05) and no significant relationship with renal O(2) delivery. These data suggest that 1) the altitude-induced increase in EPO is "dose" dependent: altitudes > or =2,100-2,500 m appear to be a threshold for stimulating sustained EPO release in most subjects; 2) short-term acclimatization may restore renal tissue oxygenation and restrain the rise in EPO at the lowest altitudes; and 3) there is marked individual variability in the erythropoietic response to altitude that is only partially explained by "upstream" physiological factors such as those reflecting O(2) delivery to EPO-producing tissues.  相似文献

Clones of Norway spruce (Picea abies L.) were grown for several years on an altitudinal gradient (1750 m, 1150 m and 800 m above sea level) to study the effects of environmental × genetic interactions on growth and foliar metabolites (protein, pigments, antioxidants). Clones at the tree line showed 4.3-fold lower growth rates and contained 60% less chlorophyll (per gram of dry matter) than those at valley level. The extent of growth reduction was clone-dependent. The mortality of the clones was low and not altitude-dependent. At valley level, but not at high altitude, needles of mature spruce trees showed lower pigment and protein concentrations than clones. In general, antioxidative systems in needles of the mature trees and young clones did not increase with increasing altitude. Needles of all trees at high altitude showed higher concentrations of dehydroascorbate than at lower altitudes, indicating higher oxidative stress. In one clone, previously identified as sensitive to acute ozone doses, this increase was significantly higher and the growth reduction was stronger than in the other genotypes. This clone also displayed a significant reduction in glutathione reductase activity at high altitude. These results suggest that induction of antioxidative systems is apparently not a general prerequisite to cope with altitude in clones whose mother plants originated from higher altitudes (about 650–1100 m above sea level, Hercycnic-Carpathian distribution area), but that the genetic constitution for maintenance of high antioxidative protection is important for stress compensation at the tree line. Pulmonary arterial pressures in native cattle ranging in age from 3 months to 10 yr were found to be increased with increasing altitudes of residence from sea level to 3048 m. At altitudes of 2590 and 3048 m, but not at sea level or 1524 m, the pressures were higher in older than in younger cattle. The magnitude of the pulmonary arterial pressure, and probably the rate of progression of pulmonary hypertension at high altitude, were much less in native cattle than in cattle that were newcomers from low altitude. Natural and artificial selection are believed to have minimized the level of pulmonary hypertension in native high altitude cattle, thus protecting them from high mountain or brisket disease.  相似文献

This study was designed to investigate the effect of exercise at 350 m below sea level altitude (–350 m) on the serum levels of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), insulin, and lactate. The study was carried out on ten trained adult males with mean age of 23.3 ± 3.4 years following a 21-km noncompetitive run. Venous blood was withdrawn from the subjects before exercise and 5 min post exercise. For comparison purposes, a similar study was performed with the same subjects but at 620 m above sea level (+620 m). The results show a significant increase in LDH and lactate levels after exercise only at low altitude (–350 m). Serum insulin levels decreased significantly after exercise at both altitudes. These changes in serum levels of LDH, insulin, and lactate at different altitudes suggest that a type of metabolic adjustment is present that meets energy requirements during exercise.  相似文献

Populations of Polygonurn viviparurn were investigated in the Swiss Alps at 14 sites, ranging from 450 m to 2530 m above sea level. The average length of stems and the mean number of reproductive organs (flowers + bulbils) decreased significantly with increasing altitude. On average, the ratio of flowers to bulbils per inflorescence also declined so that at high altitudes, bulbil production was more pronounced. Increased allocation to vegetative reproduction is discussed as an adaptation to cold climate. It is suggested that enhanced vegetative reproduction might be controlled by incornplete floral induction in high altitudes. In addition variability within and between populations was investigated by isozyme electrophoresis and the examination of bulbil colours. A considerable amount of variability was found in alpine populations. The demonstrated genetic variability showed that in P. viviparum it is likely that minor sexual reproduction is maintained even under alpine conditions. This is reflected in different enzyme phenotypes and different bulbil colours.  相似文献

The present publication summarizes the methodological possibilities of tracking radar and describes some features of nocturnal migration at two sites in the Negev, which include anwers to basic questions of bird migration. The directions of spring and autumn migration were practically opposite; only the headings in spring indicated some more compensation for stronger westerly winds. The volume of nocturnal spring migration was only about 65% of autumn migration, which may be an indication of mortality outside tie breeding area. Highest densities of migration at the two radar sites in the Negev Highlands (450 m above sea level) and in the Arava Valley (150 m below sea level) indicated flightlevels adjusted to atmospheric conditions aloft, and not to round level. Due to the trade-wind system, the birds heading southward in autumn flew mainly below flew mainly above 1500 m above sea level, while in spring they tended to make use of the anti-trades at higher altitudes. The decisive factor for altitude choice was the speed of tailwind in spring and autumn; other factors, such as temperature, humidity and pressure had no significant influence on the altitude distributions. With respect to the question of non-stop or intermittent flight across large desert areas, the data show that between the eastern deserts of Egypt and the Sinai/Negev complex the nocturnal migrants maintained their schedule of nocturnal flight and diurnal rest. A few exceptions of nocturnal migrants continuing migration at high altitudes into the day were identified mainly as heron- and gull-type birds. The proportion of waders and waterfowl identified by wing-beat pattern in nocturnal migration is nearly the same at both sites, indicating broad-front migration across the desert. The numbers of birds with continuous wingbeats is, however, so large compared to available estimates of waders and waterfowl wintering in Africa that careful reconsideration of the underlying assumptions in the radar and field estimates is necessary.  相似文献

Summary The dependence on light and temperature of the apparent photosynthetic rate was studied on ecotypes of Trifolium repens from different altitudes in the alps (600–2040 m above sea level). Due to the altitude, the natural habitats have different temperature conditions. At the higher altitudes the light conditions for the growing plants vary due to grazing or cutting management of these meadows. Accordingly, for this study the plants were grown at different temperatures and light intensities in growth cabinets.High altitude plants had higher photosynthetic rates, especially when measured at low temperatures. According to the light conditions, dependent on management, in the alpine habitats the ecotypes differed in their photosynthetic properties like sun and shade plants. It is stated, that the photosynthetic performance as well as the acclimation capacity to the growth conditions is related to the altitude of the habitats and probably also to the agricultural management.  相似文献

Abstract: A study of the insects inhabiting of cones of Norway spruce Picea abies (L.) Karst. in the Tatra National Park was conducted during 1987–92. As a result of breeding and analyses of the cones collected from trees at various altitudes above sea level, 53 746 specimens of cono- and seminiphagous insects were collected. Interior damage to cones and the losses of spruce seeds caused by pests were measured, with regard both to the variable cone crop abundance of spruce and to different altitudes above sea level.
