Grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations are performed to investigate the adsorption of argon and krypton inside weakly attractive slit pores. We examine the effects of confinement on these monoatomic fluids (modelled using the triangle-well potential) in a hard wall slit pore as also when the pore-fluid interactions are uniformly and weakly attractive. The effects of temperature and pressure on the adsorption isotherms of these confined fluids are found to be the same as those reported in literature. The equilibrium density profiles for argon and krypton exhibit both uniform distribution and layering under different conditions. In addition, for krypton, under specific conditions inside the narrow pores, we note the development of frustrated layering.  相似文献

The established dynamics of a dielectric barrier discharge in xenon at a pressure of 400 Torr is simulated in the framework of a one-dimensional fluid model in the local and nonlocal field approximations. It is shown that taking into account the nonlocal character of the electric field does not qualitatively change physical processes in a dielectric barrier discharge, but significantly affects its quantitative characteristics. In particular, the sheath thickness decreases, plasma ionization intensifies, the spatiotemporal distribution of the mean electron energy changes, and the discharge radiation efficiency increases. Electron kinetics in a dielectric barrier discharge in xenon is analyzed using the nonlocal field approximation.  相似文献

The spatiotemporal dynamics of a nanosecond atmospheric-pressure dielectric barrier discharge in 1- to 3-mm-long air gaps was studied experimentally. By using a segmented electrode, data on the time evolution of the discharge in different regions of the discharge gap were obtained. The uniformity of the discharge over the cross section is estimated by analyzing the spatial distribution of its glow.  相似文献

A surface discharge in a system where metal electrodes in the form of a series of parallel strips are positioned on the dielectric surface is studied. Analytical formulas for calculating the spatial distribution of the potential and the electric field in a discharge cell are derived. It is shown that the geometry of the metal electrodes should be taken into account (along with physical and chemical characteristics of the dielectric, the voltage applied to the electrodes, and other parameters of the system) for generation of the electric field with optimal configuration in the discharge cell. The obtained results are also applicable for analysis of discharge cells with a coplanar barrier discharge where metal electrodes are positioned in the dielectric at small depths. The results are of interest since a barrier discharge is one of the efficient methods for generating non-equilibrium plasma at high pressures for a variety of technological applications.  相似文献

Results are presented from experimental studies of ac corona discharges between a point electrode and a dielectric-coated plate in nitrogen, argon, helium, and air in the voltage frequency range f=50 Hz–50 kHz. The characteristic features of this type of discharge are compared with the well-known features of dc positive and negative coronas and a barrier discharge between plane electrodes. It is shown that the presence of a dielectric barrier on the plane electrode significantly changes the electric characteristics and spatial structure of the corona, whereas the main phases of the discharge evolution remain unchanged as the voltage increases. With a point electrode, the breakdown voltage of the barrier corona decreases substantially as compared to the breakdown voltage of a barrier discharge with plane electrodes. This leads to softer conditions for the streamer formation in a barrier corona, which becomes more stable against spark generation.  相似文献

The current distribution in a dielectric barrier discharge in atmospheric-pressure air at a natural humidity of 40–60% was studied experimentally with a time resolution of 200 ps. The experimental results are interpreted by means of numerically simulating the discharge electric circuit. The obtained results indicate that the discharge operating in the volumetric mode develops simultaneously over the entire transverse cross section of the discharge gap.  相似文献

We review factors affecting the within-river spawning migration of Atlantic salmon. With populations declining across the entire distribution range, it is important that spawners survive in the last phase of the spawning migration. Knowledge on the factors affecting migration is essential for the protection of populations, and to increase the success of reintroduction programmes. A number of studies have documented that the upstream migration may be delayed for many weeks at man-made obstacles such as power station outlets, residual flow stretches, dams, weirs and fishways. The fish may also be delayed at natural migration barriers. Often, the magnitude of delay is not predictable; fish may be considerably delayed at barriers that appear to humans to be easily passable, or they may quickly pass barriers that appear difficult. Stressful events like catch-and-release angling may affect upstream migration. Impacts of human activities may also cause altered migration patterns, affect the within-river distribution of the spawning population, and severe barriers may result in displacement of the spawning population to other rivers. Factors documented to affect within-river migration include previous experience, water discharge, water temperature, water velocity, required jump heights, fish size, fish acclimatisation, light, water quality/pollution, time of the season, and catch and handling stress. How each of these factors affects the upstream migration is to a varying extent understood; however, the effects may differ among different river sections and sites. There are likely a number of additional important factors, and the relationship between different factors is complex. The understanding of general mechanisms stimulating fish within-river migration are still lacking, and it cannot be reliably predicted under which conditions a fish will pass a given migration barrier or which conditions are needed to stimulate migration at different sites. The strong focus on the effects of water discharge in past work may have hampered consideration of other factors. Exploration of the influence of these other factors in future studies could improve our understanding of what controls the upstream migration.  相似文献

In a previously reported study (Berger et al. 1990) we analyzed distributions of interspike intervals recorded extracellularly from cat visual cortex under four stimulus conditions. Stimuli were gratings differing in orientation and spatial frequency. The probability density function of first passage time for a random walk with drift process, which is defined by its barrier height and drift coefficient, was used to characterize the generating process of axonal discharge under resting and stimulus conditions. Drift coefficient and barrier height were derived from the sample mean and standard deviation of the measured inter-spike intervals. For cells with simple receptive fields, variations in spatial frequency produced changes only in drift coefficient. Variations in barrier height were produced only by changes in orientation of the stimulus. Currently, the method used to analyze these data was implemented in a simulation which displayed the relationship between the interval distribution of impulses, the random walk which represents the time series characteristic of the spike train model and the Gabor filter function which represents the geometry of the receptive field process.  相似文献

A barrier electric discharge excited between a fixed electrode and a rotating electrode covered with a dielectric layer in atmospheric-pressure air is studied experimentally. A distinctive feature of this type of discharge is that it operates at a constant voltage between the electrodes. An advantage of the proposed method for plasma generation in the boundary layer of the rotating electrode (e.g., for studying the influence of plasma on air flows) is the variety of forms of the discharge and conditions for its initiation, simplicity of the design of the discharge system, and ease of its practical implementation  相似文献

This work continues the series of studies of pulsed high-voltage discharges propagating over liquid surfaces in the presence of barriers. In this work, the influence of the barrier position relative to the air electrode on the discharge voltage in the stage of the completed discharge is analyzed. The effect of the water depth and barrier submersion depth on the propagation of a pulsed discharge is studied.  相似文献

Summary Spatial inhomogeneities such as nonconstant population densities usually will be attributed to random effects or to an inhomogeneous substrate. Such an explanation may be incorrect since from certain chemical reactions it is known that the interaction of species together with diffusion may generate nonhomogeneous spatial structures. However, the effect of boundary conditions has been so far neglected. In this paper nonlinear and linear interaction-diffusion models are investigated under various side-conditions by analytic methods and by computer simulations. A remarkable fact, as compared with earlier results in the field, is the example of an interaction-diffusion process which in the whole space has only the constant as a stable limit distribution, whereas the introduction of a side condition, e.g. a population reservoir or a barrier, leads to standing spatial population waves.  相似文献

Experimental results on the radial distribution of the nanosecond dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) current in flat millimeter air gaps under atmospheric pressure and natural humidity of 40–60% at a voltage rise rate at the electrodes of 250 V/ns are presented. The time delay of the appearance of discharge currents was observed to increase from the center to the periphery of the air gap at discharge gap heights above 3 mm, which correlated with the appearance of constricted channels against the background of the volume DBD plasma. Based on the criterion of the avalanche-streamer transition, it is found out that the development of a nanosecond DBD in air gaps of 1–3 mm occurs by the streamer mechanism.  相似文献

A combined (dual) barrier electric discharge in atmospheric-pressure air is investigated. The discharge is induced in a discharge chamber with two pairs of electrodes of different configurations. The electrodes are connected to two independent high voltage power supplies. The plasma-chemical synthesis of ozone was studied in atmospheric pressure air depending on the parameters of each discharge contour. The analysis was performed in terms of efficiency and practical application of a combined barrier discharge.  相似文献

The approximate analytical correlations allowing for the investigation of the effect of different geometrical and physical parameters on the barrier discharge evolution near the electrode with a cylindrical cross section are obtained. The found correlations make it possible to estimate the time of the barrier discharge existence. New essential peculiarities of the barrier discharge evolution are revealed and verified.  相似文献

The development of a surface barrier discharge in air at atmospheric pressure under the action of a constant voltage of different polarity is simulated numerically. When the polarity of the high-voltage electrode is negative, the discharge develops as an ionization wave that moves along the dielectric surface. When the polarity is positive, the discharge develops as a streamer that first moves above the dielectric surface and then comes into contact with and continues to develop along it. In the case of a high-voltage electrode of positive polarity, the discharge zone above the dielectric surface is approximately five times thicker than that in the case of negative polarity. The characteristic aspects of numerical simulation of the streamer phase of a surface barrier discharge are discussed. The numerical results on the density of the charge stored at the dielectric surface and on the length of the discharge zone agree with the experimental data.  相似文献

The interaction of neuropeptides with post-synaptic receptors is characterised by a high entropic barrier originating from the combination of nanomolar concentration with low conformer population. The influence of high viscosity environments on conformer distribution can help overcome this difficulty. In an attempt to simulate the physicochemical conditions of the synaptic cleft, (15)N-labelled enkephalin has been studied in polyacrylamide gels swollen by different aqueous solutions in the temperature range 273-293 K. Nuclear Overhauser enhancement spectra in the gel pores are consistent with a conformational selection or a slowing down of internal motions that can favour the interaction of the peptide with the receptor.  相似文献

The dynamics of a repetitive barrier discharge in xenon at a pressure of 400 Torr is simulated using a one-dimensional drift-diffusion model. The thicknesses of identical barriers with a dielectric constant of 4 are 2 mm, and the gap length is 4 mm. The discharge is fed with an 8-kV ac voltage at a frequency of 25 or 50 kHz. The development of the ionization wave and the breakdown and afterglow phases of a barrier discharge are analyzed using two different kinetic schemes of elementary processes in a xenon plasma. It is shown that the calculated waveforms of the discharge voltage and current, the instant of breakdown, and the number of breakdowns per voltage half-period depend substantially on the properties of the kinetic scheme of plasmachemical processes.  相似文献

AIMS: To characterize the composition of microbial populations in a distribution system simulator (DSS) by direct sequence analysis of 16S rDNA clone libraries. METHODS AND RESULTS: Bacterial populations were examined in chlorinated distribution water and chloraminated DSS feed and discharge water. Bacterial strains isolated from DSS discharge water on R2A medium were identified using 16S rDNA sequence analysis. The majority of the bacteria identified were alpha-proteobacteria, ranging from approx. 34% in the DSS discharge water to 94% of the DSS isolates. Species richness estimators Chao1 and ACE (abundance-based coverage estimators) indicated that the chlorinated distribution water sample was representative of the total population diversity, while the chloraminated DSS feed water sample was dominated by Hyphomicrobium sp. sequences. The DSS discharge water contained the greatest diversity of alpha-, beta-, gamma-proteobacteria, with 36% of the sequences being operational taxonomic units (OTUs, sequences with >97.0% homology). CONCLUSIONS: This work demonstrated the dominance of alpha-proteobacteria in distribution system water under two different disinfectant residuals. The shift from chlorine to monochloramine residual may have played a role in bacterial population dynamics. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY: Accurate identification of bacteria present in treated drinking water is needed in order to better determine the risk of regrowth of potentially pathogenic organisms within distribution systems.  相似文献
