The distribution of six endemic Antarctic nudibranch speciesis described, using both published data and new results fromrecent expeditions to the Atlantic sector of the South PolarSea. Notaeolidia schmekelae Wägele, 1990 is restrictedto the Weddell Sea, and N. gigas Eliot, 1905 to the AntarcticPeninsula and the Scotia Arc. N. depressa Eliot, 1905 is theonly member of the family Notaeolidiidae Odhner, 1926 with acircumpolar distribution. Localities of Pseudotritonia quadrangularisThiele, 1912 and Telarma antarctica Odhner, 1934, are knownaround the Antarctic Continent, whereas Pseudotritonia gracilidensOdhner, 1944 was only collected at the Antarctic Peninsula. The biogeographical divisions, discussed by several authors,do not coincide in all aspects with the distribution patternsof the Nudibranchia. According to my results, the AntarcticPeninsula forms a separate faunal zone, with transitional elementsof the High Antarctic and Subantarctic zone. South Georgia hasno endemic nudibranchs. Several species of nudibranch molluscs are abundant amongstthe rich benthic hard substratum communities found close tothe British Antarctic Survey base at Signy Island, in the Atlanticsector of the Antarctic. Over the austral summer 1992/1993,two of the authors (LWB and DKAB) were able to collect someof the lesser known species of Nudibranchia at depths between3 and 40 metres, using SCUBA. New information on morphologyand anatomy of two of these species, Pseudotritonia gracilidensOdhner, 1944 (Charcotiidae, Arminoidea) and Notaeolidia gigasEliot, 1905(Notaeolidiidae, Aeolidoidea) are presented in thispaper. The validity of the species Notaeolidia gigas is strengthened. (Received 9 February 1994; accepted 18 September 1994)  相似文献

The external morphology and anatomy of the Antarctic nudibranchs Pseudotritonia quadrangularis Thiele, 1912, P. gracilidens Odhner, 1944 and Telarma antarctica Odhner, 1934 are redescribed. Both genera, which were only known by two or one specimen, do not possess a cnidosac, but there is a terminal swelling at the termination of the digestive glandular ramifications in P. gracilidens. This sac is composed of cells with a large vacuole. A glandular stripe on the right side of the body above the genital openings, nephroproct and anal papilla is considered to be a synapomorphy for both genera. The validity of the family Charcotiidae and the affinities to the aeolid genus Notaeolidia Eliot, 1905 and taxa of the Arminacea are discussed.  相似文献

The external morphology and anatomy of the Antarctic nudibranchs Tritonia vorax Odhner, 1926, and Tritonia antarctica Pfeffer in Martens & Pfeffer, 1886, is redescribed in detail and compared with other nominal tritoniids from the Antarctic and Subantarctic waters. Tritonia appendiculata Eliot, 1905, T. challengeriana Eliot, 1907a, non Bergh, 1884, T. chalkngeriana Odhner 1926, non Bergh, 1884, and Marionia cmullata Vicente & Arnaud 1974, non (Couthouy, in Gould 1852), are shown to be synonymous with T. antarctica. Only Tritonia antarctica is a true High Antarctic species, with a distribution around the continental shelf, Antarctic Peninsula and South Georgia. T. vorax is confined to South Georgia and Subantarctic waters.  相似文献

Utilising phylogenetic estimates inferred from molecular sequences, the superfamily Lepocreadioidea Odhner, 1905 is re-organised, with the major family, the Lepocreadiidae, split into three separate families, the Lepocreadiidae Odhner, 1905, Aephnidiogenidae Yamaguti, 1934 and Lepidapedidae Yamaguti, 1958. These families have been widely recognised as subfamilies. Also recognised are the families Enenteridae Yamaguti, 1958, Gorgocephalidae Manter, 1966 and Gyliauchenidae Fukui, 1929. The constituent genera of these families are listed, some relying on molecular data and others on morphological similarity to molecularly-typed genera. Nine genera have not been placed in families and are considered incertae sedis.  相似文献

Two species of nudibranch molluscs are described from the northeastern Pacific Ocean on the west coast of North America. These are: a new aeolid species of Cuthona Alder & Hancock, 1855 (family Cuthonidae) from the Oregonian marine zoogeographical province and a new dorid species of Acanthodoris Gray, 1850 (family Onchidorididae) from the Panamic province in the Gulf of California. The internal anatomy and external features of each species are compared with related species. Differences in structure of the radula, reproductive system and other morphological aspects are described. A revision of the family Cuthonidae is included. Evidence is presented to include the genera Trinchesia Ihering, 1879, and Precuthona Odhner, 1929, within the genus Cuthona. Cuthona alpha Baba & Hamatani, 1963, is synonymized with Catriona columbiana (O'Donoghue, 1922). We consider the New World Cuthonidae to be composed of the following five genera: Catriona Winckworth, 1941; Cuthona Alder & Hancock, 1855; Embletonia Alder & Hancock, 1851; Tenellia Costa, 1877; and Tergipes Cuvier, 1805.  相似文献

Cystophorous cercariae from Retusa obtusa (Montagu) (Gastropoda, Opisthobranchia, Retusidae) develop into adults of Brachyphallus crenatus (Rudolphi, 1802) Odhner, 1905 (Hemiuridae). The free-swimming cercariae were ingested by laboratory-reared Acartia tonsa Dana, and the cercarial body was injected into the hemocoel of the copepod. Two-week-old metacercariae held at 15 C were infective to stickleback Gasterosteus aculeatus Linnaeus. The cercariae of B. crenatus are very similar to the cercariae of Hemiurus luehei Odhner, 1905, and Lecithocladium excisum (Rudolphi, 1819) Lühe, 1901 (Hemiuridae), which develop in closely related opisthobranch snails. Scanning electron microscopy of metacercariae and adults of B. crenatus revealed the annular plications of most of the external surface to be scalelike. The area surrounding the genital pore and the presomatic pit was densely plicated.  相似文献

The phylogenetic relationships of the caryophyllidia-bearing dorids are studied, based on the examination of the type species of all the genera previously described. The phylogenetic hypothesis supports that the caryophyllidia-bearing dorids are a monophyletic group and the sister group of the clade formed by Astemnotus Ehrenberg, 1831 and Halgerda Bergh, 1880. Several genera previously considered as valid or regarded as uncertain are here synonymized: Peronodoris Bergh, 1904, Trippa Bergh, 1877, Phlegmodoris Bergh, 1878, Petelodoris Bergh, 1881, Kentrodoris Bergh, 1876, Audura Bergh, 1878, Centrodoris P. Fischer, 1883, Anisodoris Bergh, 1898, Awuka Er. Marcus, 1955, Rhabdochiia P. Fischer, 1883, Boreodoris Odhner, 1939, Dictyodoris Bergh, 1880, Gravieria Vayssiere, 1912, Aporodoris Ihering, 1886. The following genera are regarded as valid: Astemnotus, Atagema J.E. Gray, 1850, Jorunna Bergh, 1876, Platydoris Bergh, 1877, Diaulula Bergh, 1878, Rostanga Bergh, 1879, Halgerda Bergh, 1880, Baptodoris Bergh, 1884, Gargamella Bergh, 1894, Alloiodoris Bergh, 1904, Sclerodoris Eliot, 1904, Taringa Er. Marcus, 1955, Thorybopus Bouchet, 1977. The new genus Nophodoris is described based on two new species from New Caledonia deep waters. Two additional new species from New Caledonia belonging to the genera Atagema and Gargamella are also described. Nomenclatural and taxonomic problems are discussed, and several type species, neotypes and lectotypes are selected.  相似文献

Five species of digeneans parasitic in the pilchard Sardina pilchardus (Walbaum), a little studied host, from off the Algerian coast of the western Mediterranean are redescribed. These are Parahemiurus merus (Linton, 1910) Manter, 1940, Aphanurus stossichii (Monticelli, 1891) Looss, 1907, Aphanurus virgula Looss, 1907, Lecithaster confusus Odhner, 1905 and Pronoprymna ventricosa (Rudolphi, 1819) Poche, 1926. One of these, A. virgula, is a new record for this host. One other digenean, Hemiurus luehei Odhner, 1905, was also recorded from this host. A complete checklist of the helminth parasites of S. pilchardus throughout its distributional range, comprising 104 host-parasite records of 39 taxa, is presented.  相似文献

Two host-specific, extremely cryptic, small dendronotoid nudibranchs from Australia are described and classified, and their phylogenetic position within the superfamily is discussed- Lomanotus vermiformis Eliot, 1908 subsists exclusively on the hydrozoan Lytocarpus philippinus (Kirchenpauer, 1872). Lomanotus stauberi Clark & Goetzfried, 1976 is newly synonymized with L. vermiformis . Marioniopsis platyctenea sp. nov. subsists exclusively on the alcyonacean Parerythropodium hicksoni Utinomi, 1972. Marianina rosea (Pruvot-Fol, 1930) is relocated to the Tritoniidae (wherein it forms a monotypic subfamily, Marianinae) because of possession of palmate rhinophoral clavi, the principal apomorphy of the Tritoniidae. The validity of using the form of the digestive gland as a basis for dividing the Tritoniidae is questioned since it is acknowledged that this organ has progressed from a solid (holohepatic) arrangement to a dispersed (cladohepatic) arrangement in parallel in several major nudibranch lineages; form thus offers merely homoeoplaseous phylogenetic characters. Separation of right and left digestive glands appears to be one of the first steps in the simultaneous and interdependent evolutionary processes of internal detorsion and external 'aeolidization' in nudibranchs.  相似文献

As a part of a comprehensive survey of macroparasites of commercially exploited fish species off the coast of Otago, New Zealand, the parasite fauna of the New Zealand sole Peltorhamphus novaezeelandiae Günther was recently studied. Steringotrema robertpoulini n. sp. is described from this host and compared with known species of Steringotrema Odhner, 1911. The new species is readily distinguished from all of its congeners, except for S. divergens (Rudolphi, 1809) Odhner, 1911, by having the follicular vitellarium divided in four zones rather than two, and can be differentiated from S. divergens mainly by the posterior extent of the intestinal caeca in the hindbody, as well as by host association and geographical distribution. DNA sequences of the 28S ribosomal gene were generated and phylogenetic analyses were undertaken using maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference to assess the phylogenetic position of the new species within the family Fellodistomidae Nicoll, 1909. Analyses included the available sequences for 14 species of the family distributed among eight genera, along with nine species of other members of the order Plagiorchiida La Rue, 1957 as outgroups. The resulting topology shows that the new species of Steringotrema is nested as the sister species of Steringophorus dorsolineatus (Reimer, 1985) Bray, 1995. However, low nodal support indicates that relationships among these species are not fully resolved and require further revision and denser taxon sampling for more detailed molecular work. More information is required to draw further conclusions about the taxonomic status of the genera Steringotrema and Steringophorus Odhner, 1905.  相似文献

Oschmarinella albamarina n. comb. is described from the bile-ducts of a killer whale Orcinus orca stranded on the British coast. The systematic position of the species is discussed in relation to the genera Campula Cobbold, 1858, Orthosplanchnus Odhner, 1905 and Oschmarinella Skrjabin, 1947, and the species is transferred from Orthosplanchnus to Oschmarinella. Campula rochebruni (Poirrier, 1886) is transferred to Oschmarinella, as O. rochebruni n. comb., and Oschmarinella mascomai Raga, 1986 is considered its synonym.  相似文献

Four species of digeneans parasitic in the bogue Boops boops from the Spanish coast of the NE Atlantic are described. All are new records for this host, but one species is new and the other three are considered to be accidental parasites. Wardula bartolii n. sp. (Mesometridae) is distinguished from its two congeners on the basis of a range of morphometrical features, such as the post-ovarian extent of the uterus, the relative length of the attachment organ, the position of the pharynx and vitelline fields, and the absence of anterior caecal diverticula. The other three species are Lecithaster confusus Odhner, 1905, Aponurus laguncula Looss, 1907 (Lecithasteridae) and Accacladium serpentulum Odhner, 1928) (Accacoeliidae).  相似文献

Summary Entomelas entomelas (Dujardin, 1845) Travassos, 1930, the type species of Entomelas, is redescribed based on specimens from Anguis fragilis and Ophisaurus apodus. The generic diagnosis is emended. E. dujardini (Maupas, 1916) Travassos, 1930, Paraentomelas kazachstanika (Sharpilo & Vakker, 1972) Sharpilo, 1976 and Hexadontophorus ophisauri Kreis, 1939 are synonymized with E. entomelas and the genera Paraentomelas and Hexadontophorus fall as synonyms of Entomelas. Kurilonema Szczerbak & Sharpilo, 1969 is synonymized with Entomelas and the type species, K. markovi, is reclassified as Entomelas markovi (Szczerbak & Sharpilo, 1969) n. comb. Entomelas cruszi n. sp. is described from agamid lizards of Sri Lanka. The genera in the Rhabdiasidae are reviewed and a key is provided. Ophiorhabdias Yamaguti, 1943 and Shorttia Singh & Ratnamala, 1977 are designated synonyms of Rhabdias Stiles & Hassall, 1905. ac]19790201  相似文献

Synthesium pontoporiae, exclusive parasite of the endangered dolphin, Pontoporia blainvillei, is endemic and restricted to the South Atlantic and belongs to the Brachycladiidae family Odhner, 1905. The study of this family has been limited by the difficulty of accessing the parasites from their marine mammal hosts and as a consequence there is a paucity of genetic information available. Herein we present a genetic analysis using 18S rDNA sequences of S. pontoporiae and S. tursionis and the ND3 mtDNA sequence of S. pontoporiae. The genetic analysis of 18S rDNA sequences of brachycladiids and acanthocolpids determined two major clusters associated with their definitive hosts, marine mammals and fishes, respectively. Considering the tree topology of brachycladiids ND3 mtDNA gene, two clusters were defined, one with the Synthesium species. This work contributes with fundamental genetic information on S. pontoporiae, and suggests a Brachycladiidae genetic evolution related to their hosts.  相似文献
