The aminergic innervation of the foot of Lymnaea stagnalis was investigated using electron microscopy, immunocytochemistry, and HPLC. The foot was found to contain large amounts of serotonin and dopamine, though at lower concentrations than are found in nervous tissue. Serotonin containing tissue was concentrated in the ventral surface of the foot, under ciliated areas of the epidermis where it occurred in varicosities, with fine tracts joining these varicosities. Varicosities also occurred in deeper tissues, probably adjacent to mucus cells. Positive fluorescence for serotonin in axons was found in nerves innervating the foot, but few neuronal cell bodies containing serotonin were detected, indicating that most of the innervation was coming from the central ganglia. Axon varicosities were found using TEM on ciliated cells, mucus cells, and muscle cells as well as interaxonal junctions (possibly non-synaptic) within nerves. The neuronal varicosities contacting the ciliated cells and mucus cells contained mostly dense-cored vesicles of between 60 and 100 nm in diameter. Smaller, lucent vesicles also occurred in these terminals. The origin and significance of this innervation is discussed. It is suggested that both serotonin and dopamine may play a large role in controlling ciliary gliding by the foot.  相似文献

Topography of adrenergic neural fibres and adrenodependent structures in lymphoid organs of some mammals (rat, cat, dog, guinea-pig, golden hamster) has been studied by means of Falck's method with other histochemical methods applied simultaneously. In thymus, spleen, tonsils, lymph nodes and appendix adrenergic innervation is performed at the expense of adventitial vascular plexus and some neural fibres directed towards the organs' parenchyma. In the parenchyma of the lymphoid organs some fluorescent interfollicular macrophages and intrafollicular cells with serotonin and catecholamines in their cytoplasm were detected spectroscopically. These two types of cells respond differently to increasing amount of free amines in the organism. Orthochromic mast cells and elastic fibres also possess fluoresent properties which are connected with the presence of serotonin and catecholamines in the lymphoid organs.  相似文献

The microtopology of the motoneurons involved in protraction and retraction of the proboscis of the blowfly (Calliphora vicina) has been studied. In addition, taste input from the labellar hairs was investigated. As a result of this study it appears that protraction movements are controlled by two while retraction movements are guided by three motoneurons on each side. The neurons in each group apear to be in ipsicontralateral communication with each other. The musculi protractores fulcri (MPF) probably contain a proprioceptive cell group which projects to the MPF motoneurons. It is proposed that the proboscis motor system can be modulated by proprioception as well as by chemosensory labellar input. Neurosecretory cells may be involved in adjusting muscle power.  相似文献

There are usually 3 left and 4 right esophageal branches of the sympathetic chains. Besides a direct approach to the organ, they form a delicate network between aorta and esophagus. This network exchanges fibers with the vagus nerves. The vagal supply of the cranial third is rather poor. It is richest in the middle third. As a rule, the left anterior, left posterior, right anterior and right posterior main branches can be prepared. There are relatively few communications between right and left ramuli. Above the esophageal hiatus, always quite distinct anterior vagal chords are found, while posteriorly there are usually only very thin nerve bundles.  相似文献

Summary The dopaminergic innervation of the goldfish pituitary gland was studied by immunocytochemistry at the electron-microscope level using highly specific antibodies against dopamine coupled to bovine serum albumin with glutaraldehyde. A satisfactory preservation of the tissue was achieved after immersion in 5% glutaraldehyde in phosphate buffer containing sodium metabisulfite to prevent oxidation of the endogenous dopamine. The immunocyto-chemical procedure was performed on Vibratome sections using the preembedding method. Immunoreactivity was restricted to part of the neurosecretory type-B fibers (diameter of the secretory vesicles lower than 100 nm) in which it was found to occupy the whole cytoplasm. Labeled fibers were observed within the neurohypophysis in the different parts of the gland and in the adenohypophyseal tissue where immunoreactive profiles were detected in close apposition to the different cell types. These data are in agreement with previous results obtained by means of radioautography and further support a role for dopamine in the neuroendocrine regulation of pituitary functions in teleosts.  相似文献
