We measured PAR-saturated CO2 exchange rate (CER), and leaf N, P and chlorophyll (Chl) concentrations in 21 plant species, selected to encompass as broad a range in specific leaf area (SLA) as possible, and encompassing non-succulent C3 as well as succulent CAM plants. We worked with plants growing under uniform conditions in the facilities of a biological research station to ensure that any correlations found were due to inherent, genetically controlled, relationships between the measured parameters and not due to variations in resource availability in different habitats. We found CER to be strongly correlated to SLA, leaf N concentration and Chl concentration. CER increased much faster with increasing leaf N concentration (CER ≈ N3.1) than with increasing SLA (CER ≈ SLA1.2). CER also increased much faster with leaf N concentration than with increasing Chl concentration (CER ≈ Chl1.3), indicating the photosynthetic N-use efficiency (NUE) to be higher for plants with high N concentration than for plants with low N concentration (NUE ≈ N2.1). Analysis of covariance showed that these relationships exist even when comparing plants of widely different growth forms - succulent or non-succulent, and of different photosynthetic pathways, as the C3 and CAM plants compared here. Testing against scaling coefficients calculated using dimensional analysis, showed that the scaling of N, Chl and CER against SLA was not merely a result of diluting N and Chl with carbon in thicker leaves but that SLA, probably through influencing light absorptio and/or CO2 diffusion pathway, played an independent role in controlling CER. Pigment combinations are regulated during leaf ontogenesis. To better understand pigment function, alterations in chlorophyll, carotenoid and anthocyanin concentrations were investigated during different leaf development stages in six subtropical landscape plants, namely Ixora chinensis Lam, Camellia japonica Linn, Eugenia oleina Wight, Mangifera indica L., Osmanthus fragrans Lowr and Saraca dives Pierre. High concentrations of anthocyanin were associated with reduced chlorophyll in juvenile leaves. As leaves developed, the photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll and carotenoid) of all six species increased while anthocyanin concentration declined. Chlorophyll fluorescence imaging of ΦPSII (effective quantum yield of PSII) and of NPQ (non-photochemical fluorescence quenching) and determination of electron transport rate-rapid light curve (RLC) showed that maximum ETR (leaf electron transport rate), ΦPSII and the saturation point in RLC increased during leaf development but declined as they aged. Juvenile leaves displayed higher values of NPQ and Car/Chl ratios than leaves at other developmental stages. Leaf reflectance spectra (400–800 nm) were measured to provide an in vivo non-destructive assessment of pigments in leaves during ontogenesis. Four reflectance indices, related to pigment characters, were compared with data obtained quantitatively from biochemical analysis. The results showed that the ARI (anthocyanin reflectance index) was linearly correlated to anthocyanin concentration in juvenile leaves, while a positive correlation of Chl NDI (chlorophyll normalized difference vegetation index) to chlorophyll a concentration was species dependent. Photosynthetic reflectance index was not closely related to Car/Chl ratio, while a structural-independent pigment index was not greatly altered by leaf development or species. Accordingly, it is suggested that the high concentration of anthocyanin, higher NPQ and Car/Chl ratio in juvenile leaves are important functional responses to cope with high radiation when the photosynthetic apparatus is not fully developed. Another two leaf reflectance indices, ARI and Chl NDI, are valuable for in vivo pigment evaluation during leaf development.  相似文献

Coordinated variation has been reported for leaf structure, composition and function, across and within species, and theoretically should occur across populations of a species that span an extensive environmental range. We focused on Hawaiian keystone tree species Metrosideros polymorpha, specifically, 13-year old trees grown (2–4 m tall) in a common garden (approximately 1 ha field with 2–3 m between trees) from seeds collected from 14 populations along an altitude–soil age gradient. We determined the genetic component of relationships among specific leaf area (SLA), the concentrations of nitrogen (N) and pigments (chlorophylls, carotenoids, and anthocyanins), and photosynthetic light-use efficiency. These traits showed strong ecotypic variation; SLA declined 35% with increasing source elevation, and area-based concentrations of N, Chl a + b and Car increased by 50, 109 and 96%, respectively. Concentrations expressed on a mass basis were not well related to source elevation. Pigment ratios expressed covariation that suggested an increased capacity for light harvesting at higher source elevation; Chl/N and Car/Chl increased with source elevation, whereas Chl a/b declined; Chl a/b was higher for populations on younger soil, suggesting optimization for low N supply. Parallel trends were found for the photosynthetic reactions; light-saturated quantum yield of photosystem II (Φ PSII) and electron transport rate (ETR) increased with source elevation. Correlations of the concentrations of photosynthetic pigments, pigment ratios, and photosynthetic function across the ecotypes indicated a stoichiometric coordination of the components of the light-harvesting antennae and reaction centers. The constellation of coordinated morphological, biochemical and physiological properties was expressed in the leaf reflectance and transmittance properties in the visible and near-infrared wavelength region (400–950 nm), providing an integrated metric of leaf status among and between plant phenotypes.  相似文献

The Portulacaceae is one of the few terrestrial plant families known to have both C(4) and Crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) species. There may be multiple origins of the evolution of CAM within the Portulacaceae but the only clear evidence of C(4) photosynthesis is found in members of the genus Portulaca. In the Portulaca, CAM succulent tissue is overlaid with the C(4) tissue in a unique fashion where both pathways are operating simultaneously. Earlier reports have shown that the clade containing the genera Anacampseros and Grahamia may also contain C(4) photosynthetic species similar to the Portulaca, which would indicate multiple origins of C(4) photosynthesis within the family. The aim of the present study was to ascertain the true photosynthetic nature of these genera. An initial survey of the carbon isotope composition of the Anacampseros ranged from -12.6 per thousand to -24.0 per thousand, indicating very little CAM activity in some species, with other values close to the C(4) range. Anacampseros (=Grahamia) australiana which had been previously identified as a C(4) species had a carbon isotope composition value of -24.0 per thousand, which is more indicative of a C(3) species with a slight contribution of CAM activity. Other Anacampseros species with C(4)-like values have been shown to be CAM plants. The initial isotope analysis of the Grahamia species gave values in the range of -27.1 per thousand to -23.6 per thousand, placing the Grahamia species well towards the C(3) photosynthetic range. Further physiological studies indicated increased night-time CO(2) uptake with imposition of water stress, associated with a large diurnal acid fluctuation and a marked increased phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase activity. This showed that the Grahamia species are actually facultative CAM plants despite their C(3)-like carbon isotope values. The results indicate that the Grahamia and Anacampseros species do not utilize the C(4) photosynthetic pathway. This is the first to identify that the Grahamia species are facultative CAM plants where CAM can be induced by water stress. This work supports earlier physiological work that indicates that this clade containing Anacampseros and Grahamia species comprises predominantly facultative CAM plants. This report suggests there may be only one clade which contains C(4) photosynthetic members with CAM-like characteristics.  相似文献

Comparative analysis revealed that a xantha rice mutant (cv. Huangyu B) had higher ratios of chlorophyll (Chl) a/b and carotenoids/Chl, and higher photosynthetic efficiency than its wild type parent (cv. II32 B). Unexpectedly, the mutant had higher net photosynthetic rate (P N) than II32 B. This might have resulted from its lower non-photochemical quenching (qN) but higher maximal photochemical efficiency (FV/FM), higher excitation energy capture efficiency of photosystem 2 (PS2) reaction centres (FV′/FM′), higher photochemical quenching (qP), higher effective PS2 quantum yield (ΦPS2), and higher non-cyclic electron transport rate (ETR). This is the first report of a chlorophyll mutant that has higher photosynthetic efficiency and main Chl fluorescence parameters than its wild type. This mutant could become a unique material both for the basic research on photosynthesis and for the development of high yielding rice cultivars.  相似文献

The effects of elevated growth temperature (ambient + 3.5°C) and CO2 (700 μmol mol−1) on leaf photosynthesis, pigments and chlorophyll fluorescence of a boreal perennial grass (Phalaris arundinacea L.) under different water regimes (well watered to water shortage) were investigated. Layer-specific measurements were conducted on the top (younger leaf) and low (older leaf) canopy positions of the plants after anthesis. During the early development stages, elevated temperature enhanced the maximum rate of photosynthesis (P max) of the top layer leaves and the aboveground biomass, which resulted in earlier senescence and lower photosynthesis and biomass at the later periods. At the stage of plant maturity, the content of chlorophyll (Chl), leaf nitrogen (NL), and light response of effective photochemical efficiency (ΦPSII) and electron transport rate (ETR) was significantly lower under elevated temperature than ambient temperature in leaves at both layers. CO2 enrichment enhanced the photosynthesis but led to a decline of NL and Chl content, as well as lower fluorescence parameters of ΦPSII and ETR in leaves at both layers. In addition, the down-regulation by CO2 elevation was significant at the low canopy position. Regardless of climate treatment, the water shortage had a strongly negative effect on the photosynthesis, biomass growth, and fluorescence parameters, particularly in the leaves from the low canopy position. Elevated temperature exacerbated the impact of water shortage, while CO2 enrichment slightly alleviated the drought-induced adverse effects on P max. We suggest that the light response of ΦPSII and ETR, being more sensitive to leaf-age classes, reflect the photosynthetic responses to climatic treatments and drought stress better than the fluorescence parameters under dark adaptation.  相似文献

Meteorological parameters inside and outside an open-top chamber (OTC) fumigation facility were recorded and the primary photosynthetic response of four tree species measured with chlorophyll (Chl) a fluorescence emission. Parameters extracted from the Chl a fluorescence transient were used to calculate photosynthetic activity of the leaves using a performance index. Measurements were made during the night throughout a single growing season. The seasonal primary photosynthetic performance in all species was significantly altered by growth in the OTCs, and the degree of response was dependent upon the species. Wind was an important effectual component of the altered environment. The average temperature was consistently 1.94±0.70 °C higher within the OTCs, whereas wind speed fluctuated substantially more between inside and outside the OTCs (0 to 8 m −1). There was a correlation between the photosynthetic performance index and wind speed in Fagus sylvatica, Fraxinus excelsior, and Prunus serotina. The response to wind was also particular to each species; the photosynthetic performance of F. sylvatica increased with wind speed (1 to 7 m s−1), decreased with F. excelsior (0 to 6.5 m s−1) and P. serotina (0 to 5.5 m s−1). Abies alba, in contrast, was almost insensitive to wind. A model was proposed and tested for the conversion of the photosynthetic performance values collected in OTCs to predict the photosynthetic performance outside OTCs. The wide variety of responses to wind and temperature of the four species conformed to linear functions that describe the relationship of the wind speed and temperature responses with the difference in photosynthetic performance between the OTC and open environments. Specific coefficients for wind and temperature were proposed. The photosynthetic response to wind of each species depends on its ecophysiological specialisation. Well-watered plants of Plectranthus marrubioides Benth., a crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) species naturally inhabiting sun exposed succulent places, were grown at photosynthetically active photon flux densities (PPFD) of either 150 (LL) or 300 (HL) μmol m-2 s-1 in a controlled environment. Photosynthesis of LL plants was saturated by irradiance of ca. 500 μmol m-2 s-1 while in HL plants saturation was not reached up to 1200 μmol m-2 s-1 and photosynthetic capacity was nearly 50 % higher than in the LL plants. However, maximum photon yield was 55 % lower and compensation irradiance was 25 % higher in LL plants. The former also had larger, more succulent leaves, i.e., they were morphologically more sun adapted. On the other hand, nocturnal accumulation of malic and citric acid, nighttime CO2 gain, and the low relative carbon recycling were independent of the prevailing PPFD. Furthermore, photosynthetic performance was flexibly and reversibly adjusted in HL plants after transfer to 600 or 150 μmol m-2 s-1 while nocturnal CO2 uptake was not influenced. Photosynthesis showed a high acclimation potential to high PPFD and patterns of gas exchange became more C3-like the higher the irradiance was, without a direct effect on CAM in P. marrubioides. In Chilean evergreen temperate forest, fern species of the genus Blechnum occur in diverse microhabitats in a light gradient. We hypothesized that differences in the habitat preferences of three co-occurring Blechnum species would be associated with differences in the magnitude of responses of light capture [chlorophyll (Chl) content] and use (photosynthetic capacity and performance) to light availability. We measured the abundance, chlorophyll content, photosynthetic capacity (A), and photosynthetic performance (chlorophyll fluorescence of photosystems I and II) of juvenile individuals of each species growing in different light levels in the field. While Blechnum magellanicum covers a broad light environments range, B. mochaenum is restricted to shade, and B. penna-marina occupies full sun sites. Despite significant interspecific differences in average total chlorophyll content, this trait did not differ among species along the light gradient. There was significant interspecific variation in both the mean value and the plasticity of Chl a:Chl b ratio and A to light availability. While B. penna-marina showed a flatter reaction norm (lower response) of Chl a:Chl b ratio to light availability than its two congeners, B. mochaenum showed a lower response of A to light availability. B. penna-marina and B. magellanicum individuals from open sites had higher light saturation points of the electron transport rate (ETR) of both photosystems (ETRLSP I and II) and photochemical quenching (qL and NA) than the shade restricted B. mochaenum. Additionally, non-photochemical quenching values for both photosystems (NPQ and ND) were higher in ferns species occurring in shaded sites. The adjustment of the photosynthetic capacity and performance to light availability appears to be an important mechanism of acclimation in these three Blechnum species that differ in their habitat preferences across a light gradient.  相似文献

Winter wheat is a grass species widely planted in northern and central China, where the increase of aerosols, air pollutants and population density are causing significant reduction in solar irradiance. In order to investigate the adaptation of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L., cv. Yangmai 13) to low irradiance conditions occurring in the downstream plain of the Yangtze River (China), plants were subjected to four solar irradiance treatments (100%, 60%, 40%, and 20% of environmental incident solar irradiance). Significant increases in chlorophyll (Chl) and xanthophyll (Xan) pigments, and decreases in Chl a/b and Xan/Chl ratios were observed in plants under low light. Light-response curves showed higher net photosynthetic rates (P N) in fully irradiated plants, that also showed a higher light-compensation point. Shaded plants maintained high values of minimal fluorescence of dark-adapted state (Fo) and maximum quantum efficiency of PSII photochemistry (Fv/Fm) that assess a lower degree of photoinhibition under low light. Reduced irradiance caused decreases in effective quantum yield of PSII photochemistry (ΦPSII), electron transport rate (ETR), and nonphotochemical quenching coefficient (qN), and the promotion of excitation pressure of PSII (1 − qP). The activities of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase and peroxidase were high under reduced light whereas no light-dependent changes in catalase activity were observed. Thiobarbituric acid reactive species content and electrolyte leakage decreased under shaded plants that showed a lower photooxidative damage. The results suggest that winter wheat cv. Yangmai 13 is able to maintain a high photosynthetic efficiency under reduced solar irradiance and acclimates well to shading tolerance. The photosynthetic and antioxidant responses of winter wheat to low light levels could be important for winter wheat cultivation and productivity.  相似文献

Direct comparisons between photosynthetic O2 evolution rate and electron transport rate (ETR) were made in situ over 24 h using the benthic macroalga Ulva lactuca (Chlorophyta), growing and measured at a depth of 1.8 m, where the midday irradiance rose to 400–600 μmol photons m−2 s−1. O2 exchange was measured with a 5-chamber data-logging apparatus and ETR with a submersible pulse amplitude modulated (PAM) fluorometer (Diving-PAM). Steady-state quantum yield ((Fm′−Ft)/Fm′) decreased from 0.7 during the morning to 0.45 at midday, followed by some recovery in the late afternoon. At low to medium irradiances (0–300 μmol photons m−2 s−1), there was a significant correlation between O2 evolution and ETR, but at higher irradiances, ETR continued to increase steadily, while O2 evolution tended towards an asymptote. However at high irradiance levels (600–1200 μmol photons m−2 s−1) ETR was significantly lowered. Two methods of measuring ETR, based on either diel ambient light levels and fluorescence yields or rapid light curves, gave similar results at low to moderate irradiance levels. Nutrient enrichment (increases in [NO3 ], [NH4 +] and [HPO4 2-] of 5- to 15-fold over ambient concentrations) resulted in an increase, within hours, in photosynthetic rates measured by both ETR and O2 evolution techniques. At low irradiances, approximately 6.5 to 8.2 electrons passed through PS II during the evolution of one molecule of O2, i.e., up to twice the theoretical minimum number of four. However, in nutrient-enriched treatments this ratio dropped to 5.1. The results indicate that PAM fluorescence can be used as a good indication of the photosynthetic rate only at low to medium irradiances. Previous evidence has demonstrated that vertical leaves of Styrax camporum, a woody shrub from the Brazilian savanna, have a higher net photosynthetic rate (P N) compared with horizontal leaves, and that it is detected only if gas exchange is measured with light interception by both leaf surfaces. In the present study, leaf temperature (T leaf), gas exchange and chlorophyll (Chl) a fluorescence with light interception on adaxial and also on abaxial surfaces of vertical and horizontal mature fully-expanded leaves subjected to water deficit (WD) were measured. Similar gas-exchange and fluorescence values were found when the leaves were measured with light interception on the respective surfaces of horizontal and vertical leaves. WD reduced P N values measured with light interception on leaf surfaces of both leaf types, but the effective quantum yield of PSII (ΦPSII) and the apparent electron transport rate (ETR) were reduced only when the leaves were measured with light interception on the adaxial surface. WD did not decrease the maximum quantum yield of PSII (Fv/Fm) or increase T leaf, even at the peak of WD stress. Vertical leaf orientation in S. camporum is not related to leaf heat avoidance. In addition, the similar P N values and the lack of higher values of ΦPSII and ETR in vertical compared with horizontal leaves measured with light interception by each of the leaf surfaces suggests that the vertical leaf position is not related to photoprotection in this species, even when subjected to drought conditions. The exclusion of this photoprotective role could raise the alternative hypothesis that diverse leaf angles sustain whole plant light interception efficiency increased in this species.  相似文献

The recessive lethal character Luteus-Pa, expressed as a yellowing of leaves of young seedlings and followed by death approximately 60 d after emergence, presents a 3:1 segregation in crosses and/or selfpollinated plants. We evaluated quantitatively the fluorescence emission of chlorophyll (Chl), gas exchange, and chemical composition of normal and recessive homozygous cacao seedlings of the cross Pa 121×Pa 169. The characteristics of Chl fluorescence kinetics were studied in stages B2, B3, C, D, and E of leaf development, corresponding to plant ages of 9 to 12, 13 to 15, 16 to 20, 21 to 30, and >30 d, respectively. Gas exchanges were measured in mature leaves of both seedlings. In regular intervals of 3 d beginning at 33 d after emergence, the seedlings were separated into roots, stems, leaves, and cotyledons to determine the contents of saccharides (SAC) and free amino acids (FAA) and variation of the leaf Chl content. The Chl distribution in complexes of the photosynthetic apparatus was analysed by SDS-PAGE in mature leaves of both normal and recessive 32-d-old seedlings. There were variations in Chl fluorescence, gas exchanges and chemical composition of different parts of both types of seedlings. However, no significant differences were found in the Chl distribution through photosynthetic complexes of 32-d-old normal and recessive homozygous seedlings. After that period a decrease in the Chl concentration was observed in the recessive seedlings, and only minimum fluorescence (F0) was found. The F0 values were higher in the recessive seedlings than in the normal ones. The net photosynthetic rate of mature leaves was negative in agreement with low conductance, transpiration rate, and high internal CO2 concentration. These factors might have contributed to a depletion in SAC in different plant parts. Although F0 partially reflects the Chl concentration in leaf tissue, the increase in its value was probably due to a damage in reaction centres of photosystem 2. Therefore, the growth and development of recessive homozygous seedlings depended exclusively on cotyledon reserves, the depletion of which leads to death.  相似文献

Crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM) is a photosynthetic pathway found in many plant species from arid and semiarid environments. Few studies aiming to characterise plant species as CAM or C3 account for inter‐population differences in photosynthetic pathway, often relying on samples taken from herbarium material and/or a single plant or population. This may be especially problematic for species growing under contrasting climate conditions, as is the case for species with a wide geographic range. We used Puya chilensis, a species previously reported as CAM and C3, to study among‐population variation in expression of the CAM pathway within its distribution range, which spans a significant climate gradient. We carried out a wide sampling scheme, including five populations and a combination of analytical methods (quantification of nocturnal acidification and stable isotope measurements). The study populations of P. chilensis encompass the entire latitudinal distribution range, from semi‐arid to temperate oceanic climates. Our results indicate that CAM decreased with latitude. However, even in the southern (wetter) populations, where δ13C values were indicative of C3 metabolism, we found some nocturnal acidification. We stress the value of using two methods along with the use of samples from different populations, as this allows more reliable conclusions on the photosynthetic pathway for ‘probable’ CAM species that face varying climate conditions within their distribution ranges.  相似文献

Summary The photosynthetic pathways of 42 species of the genusEuphorbia growing wild, naturalized or cultivated in Egypt were investigated. The criteria used included the δ13C- and δD-values and Kranz anatomy of the leaves. There is a relationship between the photosynthetic pathway and the ecological conditions in the habitat of a particular species. All 4 CAM species are succulent shrubs, wild or cultivated. The 11 species with C4 pathways are mainly summer annuals of tropical origin and flourish under the hot summer conditions. The 27 C3 species are either winter annuals, perennials, perennials flourishing in winter or shrubs; the majority are Mediterranean, European or Saharo-Arabian. Summer annuals with C3 pathways grow under the shade of the summer crops. Generally, C3 plants grow under conditions of relatively better water resources and lower temperature than the C4 plants. The majority of the CAM and C4 species occur in the southern part of the country, where high temperature is a common feature of the climate.  相似文献

In this paper we report for the first time the occurrence ofan inducible weak CAM in leaves of Talinwn triangulare (Jacq.)Willd. This plant is a terrestrial perennial deciduous herbwith woody stems and succulent leaves which grows under fullexposure and in the shade in northern Venezuela. Plants grownin a greenhouse (‘sun’ plants) and a growth cabinet(‘shade’ plants) with daily irrigation showed CO2uptake only during the daytime (maximum rate, 4?0 µmolm–2 s–1) and a small acid accumulation during thenight (6?0 µmol H+g–1 FW). Twenty-four hours aftercessation of irrigation, no CO2 exchange was observed duringpart of the night. Dark fixation reached a maximum (1?0 µmolCO2 m–2 s–1, 100 µmol H+ g–1 FW) onday 9 of drought. By day 30 almost no gas exchange was observed, while acid accumulation was still 10 µmol H+ g–1FW. Rewatering reverted the pattern of CO2 exchange to thatof a C3 plant within 24 h. Daytime and night-time phosphoenolpyruvatecarboxylase activity increased up to 100% (shade) and 62% (sun)of control values after 10 and 15 d of drought, respectively.Light compensation point and saturating irradiance were similarin well-watered sun and shade plants, values being characteristicof sun plants. CAM seems to be important for the tolerance ofplants of this species to moderately prolonged (up to 2 months)periods of drought in conditions of full exposure as well asshade, and also for regaining high photosynthetic rates shortlyafter irrigation. The thermo-sensitivity of two new pea (Pisum sativum L.) cultivars—Afila (mutant in the gene transforming leaves into mustaches) and Ranen (mutant for early ripening)—as compared to the control cultivar Pleven-4 to either low (4 °C, T4) or high temperature (38 °C, T38) was investigated by means of chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence kinetics. The low temperature treatment decreased the photosynthetic activity, measured via a decline of the Chl fluorescence decrease ratios RFd690 and RFd735, and this was mainly due to a decline of the Chl fluorescence decrease parameter Fd and maximum Chl fluorescence Fm. In the new cv. Ranen the RFd ratios at first decreased and increased again after 24-h exposure to 4 °C, indicating its good acclimation ability to low temperature. The cold-induced changes in the photosynthetic performance of all cultivars were reversed after transferring plants back to 23 °C for 48 h. In the Chl and carotenoid (Car) contents no or little changes occurred during the T4 treatment, except for a slight but clear increase of the ratio Chl a/b and a decrease in the ratio Chl/Car. In contrast to this, the T38 treatment for 72 h decreased the RFd ratios more strongly than the T4 exposure did. In fact, an irreversible injury of the photosynthetic apparatus was caused in the control pea cv. Pleven-4 by a 48-h T38 exposure and for the new cv. Afila after a 72-h T38 exposure. In contrast, the cv. Ranen was less and little sensitive to the T38 exposure. In the heat-sensitive cvs. Pleven-4 and Afila, the decrease in RFd values at T38 was associated with a strong decline of the Chl a+b and total Car contents. The Chl a+b decline could also be followed via an increase of the Chl fluorescence ratio F690/F735. Parallel to this, a strong decline of Chl a/b from ca. 3.0 (range 2.85–3.15) to ca. 1.9 (range 1.85–1.95) occurred indicating a preferential decline of the Chl a-pigment proteins but not of the Chl a/b-pigment protein LHC2. In the relatively heat-tolerant cv. Ranen, however, the ratio Chl a/b declined only partially. After the T4 treatment the stress adaptation index Ap was higher in cv. Ranen than in controls and reached in heat-treated Ranen plants almost the starting value indicating a cold and heat stress hardening of the treated plants. The Chl fluorescence parameters and pigment contents were influenced by T38 and T4 treatments in various ways indicating that the mechanisms of low and high temperature injury of the photosynthetic apparatus are different. The new cv. Ranen exhibited a cross tolerance showing a fairly good acclimation ability to both T4 and T38, hence it is a very suitable plant for outdoor growth and for clarification of the acclimation mechanisms to unfavourable temperatures.  相似文献

We investigated the effects of high pressure treatment on green plant leaves of two species, red rose (Rosa rubiginosa L.) and silver birch male (Betula pendula Roth). Both species were treated with pressure up to 100 bar in order to explore stress reactions, including desirable or undesirable metabolites in plant. When increasing the pressure, chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence maximum shifts to the wavelength of about 680 nm for both red rose and silver birch, with shift rates–0.062 nm/bar and–0.082 nm/bar, respectively. High pressure induces the changes of the position for the second fluorescence maximum at approximately 730 nm in both species with the same shift rate–0.083 nm/bar. When increasing pressure the change of the photosynthetic apparatus efficiency decreases for both plant species slowly and nonlinearly. High-pressure treatments irreversibly damaged the leaf tissue and at this way induced changes of Chl fluorescence and photosynthetic efficiency.  相似文献
