The Human Liver Proteome Project (HLPP) is the first initiative of the Human Proteome Organisation (HUPO) to target a human organ/tissue and aims at the establishment of a biological atlas of the liver to advance our understanding of liver functions and to provide the tools to develop new diagnostics and therapeutics for liver diseases. The major achievements of HLPP during its pilot phase (2003-2005) were presented during a one-day workshop held on August 27, 2005, immediately prior to the 4th HUPO World Congress in Munich, Germany. These include (i) the participation of a large number of laboratories worldwide and the initiation of international research collaborations; (ii) the establishment of a management infrastructure and (iii) the development of standard operating procedures and the generation and collection of a first set of expression profile data. A summary of the workshop was subsequently presented by Professor Fuchu He, the Chair of this initiative, during the HUPO 4th Annual World Congress.  相似文献

During the 10th HUPO Annual World Congress held in Geneva (Switzerland) from 4th to 7th September, a workshop on Human Liver Proteome Project (HLPP) Initiative took place. Four research groups presented their latest results from different ongoing projects. The Human Liver Proteome Project (HLPP) was formally launched by HUPO in 2002. The 11th HLPP Workshop was held on September 26th, 2009 during the 8th HUPO World Congress in Toronto, Canada. The international Human Proteome Project (HPP), a logical continuation of the Human Genome Project, was launched on 23 September 2010 in Sydney, Australia. In accordance with the gene-centric approach, the goals of the HPP are to prepare an inventory of all human proteins and decipher the network of cellular protein interactions. The greater complexity of the proteome in comparison to the genome gives rise to three bottlenecks in the implementation of the HPP. The main bottleneck is the insufficient sensitivity of proteomic technologies, hampering the detection of proteins with low- and ultra-low copy numbers. The second bottleneck is related to poor reproducibility of proteomic methods and the lack of a so-called ‘gold’ standard. The last bottleneck is the dynamic nature of the proteome: its instability over time. The authors here discuss approaches to overcome these bottlenecks in order to improve the success of the HPP.  相似文献

More than 1200 attendees came together at the 3(rd) HUPO World Congess in Beijing, October 25-27, 2004. In numerous different sessions the wide range of proteomic areas became visible. The HUPO Brain Proteome Project (HUPO BPP) organized an evening session on October 23, presenting the first results of two pilot studies as well as the newest, very positive international development in this field. The data acquisition phase of initial pilot studies (human and mouse brain samples) of the Human Proteome Organisation (HUPO) Brain Proteome Project (BPP) is now complete and the data generated by the participating laboratories has been submitted to the central Data Collection Center. The BPP Bioinformatics Group met on 8th April 2005 at the European Bioinformatics Institute (Hinxton, UK) to discuss strategies for the reanalysis of the pooled data from all the participating laboratories. A summary of the results of the data reprocessing will be presented at the 4th HUPO World Congress that will be held in August/September 2005.  相似文献

This report describes the 17th Chromosome‐Centric Human Proteome Project which was held in Tehran, Iran, April 27 and 28, 2017. A brief summary of the symposium's talks including new technical and computational approaches for the identification of novel proteins from non‐coding genomic regions, physicochemical and biological causes of missing proteins, and the close interactions between Chromosome‐ and Biology/Disease‐driven Human Proteome Project are presented. A synopsis of decisions made on the prospective programs to maintain collaborative works, share resources and information, and establishment of a newly organized working group, the task force for missing protein analysis are discussed.  相似文献

More than 70 interested colleagues attended the 4(th) Workshop of HUPO's Brain Proteome Project. The project was presented within nine talks mainly focusing on two running pilot studies as well as on data re-processing. The HUPO Brain Proteome Project (HUPO BPP) held its 12th workshop in Toronto on 26 September 2009 prior to the HUPO VIII World Congress. The principal aim of this project is to obtain a better understanding of neurodiseases and ageing, with the ultimate objective of discovering prognostic and diagnostic biomarkers, in addition to the development of novel diagnostic techniques and new medications. The attendees came together to discuss progress in the human clinical neuroproteomics and to define the needs and guidelines required for more advanced proteomic approaches.  相似文献

At the 12th Annual HUPO World Congress of Proteomics in Japan, the Human Proteome Project (HPP) presented 16 scientific workshop sessions. Here we summarize highlights of ten workshops from the Biology and Disease‐driven HPP (B/D‐HPP) teams and three from the HPP Resource Pillars. The Human Kidney and Urine Proteome Project (HKUPP) was initiated to promote proteomics research in the nephrology field, to better understand kidney functions as well as pathogenic mechanisms of kidney diseases, and to define novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets. The 4th workshop held in September 2009 discussed problems of proteomics analysis for kidney tissues and urine samples and a standard protocol for collection, storage and protein concentration of urine samples was decided upon.  相似文献

Long Beach hosted this year's annual congress of the Human Proteome Organisation (HUPO). In addition to the numerous sessions, talks and poster presentations organized by HUPO itself, several events were arranged by the HUPO initiatives. The Brain Proteome Project (HUPO BPP) was very active, initiating three pre-congress workshops: (i) the kick-off meeting of the EU-funded ProDaC consortium (Proteomics Data Collection) that is aiming at the bioinformatics Standardization in the proteomics field; (ii) the workshop "Standardization Issues in Proteomics: Perspectives from Vendors" giving an overview about the lessons learned by proteomics industrial partners; (iii) the 6th HUPO BPP Workshop "New Proteomics Approaches for further HUPO BPP Studies" offering new concepts for brain-related proteomics studies.  相似文献

Introduction: The mission of the Chromosome-Centric Human Proteome Project (C-HPP), is to map and annotate the entire predicted human protein set (~20,000 proteins) encoded by each chromosome. The initial steps of the project are focused on ‘missing proteins (MPs)’, which lacked documented evidence for existence at protein level. In addition to remaining 2,579 MPs, we also target those annotated proteins having unknown functions, uPE1 proteins, alternative splice isoforms and post-translational modifications. We also consider how to investigate various protein functions involved in cis-regulatory phenomena, amplicons lncRNAs and smORFs.

Areas covered: We will cover the scope, historic background, progress, challenges and future prospects of C-HPP. This review also addresses the question of how we can best improve the methodological approaches, select the optimal biological samples, and recommend stringent protocols for the identification and characterization of MPs. A new strategy for functional analysis of some of those annotated proteins having unknown function will also be discussed.

Expert commentary: If the project moves well by reshaping the original goals, the current working modules and team work in the proposed extended planning period, it is anticipated that a progressively more detailed draft of an accurate chromosome-based proteome map will become available with functional information.  相似文献

The 12th HLPP workshop was held in conjunction with the 9th HUPO 2010 World Congress on September 20th in Sydney, Australia. This 2‐h workshop was chaired by Prof. Fuchu He (Beijing Proteome Research Center). Highlights included: (i) progress of the post‐translational modification of liver proteome; (ii) construction of the human liver protein interaction and localization maps; (iii) progress made in terms of identifying biomarker for liver diseases; and (iv) discussion on the second phase of the initiative. The plenary session of the Proteomics Standards Initiative (PSI) of the Human Proteome Organisation at the 7th annual HUPO world congress updated the delegates on the current status of the ongoing work of this group. The release of the new MS interchange format, mzML, was formally announced and delegates were also updated on the advances in the area of molecular interactions, protein separations, proteomics informatics and also on PEFF, a common sequence database format currently under review in the PSI documentation process. Community input on this initiative was requested. Finally, the impact these new data standards are having on the data submission process, which increasingly is an integral part of the publication process, was reviewed and discussed.  相似文献

The HUPO Plasma Proteome Project new phase, PPP‐2, held its initial workshop on 17 August, 2008, at the 7th World Congress of Proteomics in Amsterdam. Technology platforms, data repositories, informatics, and engagement of research groups for the submission of major datasets were key topics. Plasma is expected to be the common pathway for biomarker development and application through collaboration and integration with other HUPO initiatives.  相似文献
