A new species of aphis, Myzus ascalonicus Doncaster, is briefly described, and compared with Myzus persicae Sulz., which it resembles superficially. It has been found on shallots in storage and on onions and other species of plants both in glasshouses and in the open between October and June. Its summer habits and hosts are unknown. In comparative virus transmission tests with M. persicae it was found that Myzus ascalonicus transmits dandelion yellow mosaic virus, which is not transmitted by Myzus persicae ; and also cucumber virus I, Hyoscyamus virus III and sugar-beet yellows virus, all of which are transmitted by M. persicae. Myzus ascalonicus does not transmit the viruses of potato Y severe etch, lettuce mosaic and sugar-beet mosaic which are transmitted by Myzus persicae.  相似文献

Three mechanically transmissible viruses were isolated from a diseased Solanum jasminoides plant obtained from India. One is a strain of potato virus Y , which in some potato varieties produces symptoms resembling those caused by potato virus C , but unlike potato virus C it is readily transmitted by Myzus persicae. The second, named tobacco wilt virus, is also transmitted by M. persicae but much less readily, whereas the third, named datura necrosis virus, is not. All three have a wide host range, but neither tobacco wilt nor datura necrosis viruses infects potato plants. All three have long flexuous particles and similar general properties.
Simultaneous infection with datura necrosis virus usually decreases the concentration reached by potato virus Y in tobacco plants but not in Nicotiana glutinosa.  相似文献

A stock of potato virus C derived from Edgecote Purple potatoes in 1945 was not then transmitted by aphids, although more than 2000 aphids were used in conditions optimal for transmitting the serologically related potato virus Y. This stock of virus C has been propagated continuously since, by manual inoculation in a series of Nicotiana glutinosa and N. tabacum , and in 1955 it was transmitted by the aphid Myzus persicae (Sulz.): about one in twenty of the aphids transmitted it compared with one in two for potato virus Y.
Virus C derived from the Edgecote Purple potatoes in 1955 was not transmitted by aphids; both stocks of virus C produced only local lesions in Majestic potato leaves, and gave similar symptoms in tobacco.
When inoculated to Majestic potatoes and then returned to tobacco plants, potato virus C usually ceased to be aphid transmitted and did not recover this property in any of the subsequent subcultures.
Transmission from stock by aphids did not isolate a strain of virus C which was any more readily transmitted by aphids, indeed, for the first two or three subcultures, aphids usually transmitted more readily from plants inoculated manually. But the few isolates which remained aphid transmissible, after a second passage through potato, were rather readily transmitted.
These results suggest that the ability of a virus to be aphid transmitted is, at least in part, determined by the host plant in which it is multiplying, but the nature of the changes which determine this ability are unknown.  相似文献

The susceptibility to several insecticides of 16 and 8 strains of Myzus persicae Sulzer and Aphis gossypii Glover, respectively, received from different European countries in 2001 was investigated. Most of the strains were derived from places known for their aphid resistance problems to conventional insecticides before imidacloprid was introduced. In many regions and agronomic cropping systems imidacloprid has been an essential part of aphid control strategies for a decade, and therefore the susceptibility of aphid populations to imidacloprid using FAO-dip tests and diagnostic concentrations in a leaf-dip bioassay was checked. Additional insecticides tested were cyfluthrin (chemical class: pyrethroid), pirimicarb (carbamate), methamidophos and oxydemeton-methyl (organophosphates). Diagnostic concentrations (LC99-values of reference strains) for each insecticide were established by dose response analysis using a new leaf-disc dip bioassay format in 6-well tissue culture plates. Virtually no resistance to imidacloprid in any of the field-derived populations of M. persicae and A. gossypii was detected. In contrast, strong resistance was found to pirimicarb and oxydemeton-methyl, and to a lesser extent also to cyfluthrin. Two strains of A. gossypii exhibited reduced susceptibility to imidacloprid when tested directly after collection. However, after maintaining them for six weeks in the laboratory, the aphids were as susceptible as the reference strain. The diagnostic concentration of methamidophos did not reveal any resistance in M. persicae, but did so in four strains of A. gossypii.  相似文献

STUDIES ON DANDELION YELLOW MOSAIC AND OTHER VIRUS DISEASES OF LETTUCE   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The symptoms caused by dandelion yellow mosaic virus on cultivated lettuce, Lactuca serriola and L. virosa , are described and compared with those caused by lettuce mosaic virus. Lettuce is much more susceptible than dandelion to the yellow mosaic virus; no infections of dandelion were obtained by mechanical inoculation and only three by aphides, whereas infection of lettuce is regularly obtained by aphides and by inoculation provided an abrasive is used. Myzus ornatus, M. ascalonicus and Aulacorthum solani transmitted dandelion yellow mosaic virus but not lettuce mosaic virus, whereas Myzus persicae transmitted the latter but not the former. Nasonovia ribicola , the common lettuce aphis, transmitted neither. Aphides became infective only after feeding periods of some hours on the diseased plants and ceased to be infective within an hour of the infective feeding. Their efficiency as vectors was not increased by a preliminary starving period, as happens with Myzus persicae and lettuce mosaic virus. Lettuce mosaic virus was found in most samples of commercial seed, which explains its prevalence; no evidence was found for the seed-transmission of dandelion mosaic virus and it is doubtful if it occurs, for infected lettuce are so severely affected that they rarely set seed.

Myzus persicae Sulz., M. ascalonicus Doncaster, Aphis fabae Scop, and Aulacorthum solani Kalt., when caged on sugar-beet leaves in the glasshouse preferred yellows-virus-infected leaves to healthy ones; they chose those with the most severe symptoms on which they bred more rapidly and lived longer than on green leaves. M. persicae behaved similarly on whole plants in the glasshouse. The previous host influenced the aphid's preference. Differences between the multiplication rates of aphids on healthy plants of inbred sugar-beet varieties were eliminated or reversed by infection with yellows virus.
Spraying healthy plants with either sugar solutions or hydrolysate of casein increased the multiplication rate of M. persicae , but much less than did virus infection.  相似文献

用药膜法测定8种常见植物的乙醇提取物对桃蚜(Myzus persicae)、瓜蚜(Aphis gossypii)和萝卜蚜(Lipaphis erysimi)的忌避和控制作用,以及时蚜虫重要天敌--菜蚜茧蜂(Aphidius gifuensis)和菜少脉蚜茧蜂(Diaeretiella rapae)存活的影响.结果表明,供试的8种植物乙醇提取物对3种蚜虫都有一定的忌避作用,其中效果最好的是白花非洲山毛豆(Tephrosia vogelli)和樟树(Cinnamomum camphora),对桃蚜、瓜蚜和萝卜蚜的忌避率分另达0、414、0.729、0.547和0、549、0.690、0.729;除黄素馨(Jasminum mesuyi)和草胡椒(Peperomia pellucida)外,其余6种植物乙醇提取物对桃蚜、瓜蚜、萝卜蚜都有较好的控制作用,其中山毛豆、樟树对蚜虫的控制效果最佳,鸡矢藤(Paederia scandena)和芒箕(Dicranopteris dichotoma)仅次于前2种植物,白兰花(Michelia alba)对瓜蚜和萝卜蚜也有较好的控制作用;鱼藤精稀释1000倍对萝卜蚜效果很好,对桃蚜控制作用较差.8种提取物中,山毛豆对蚜茧蜂有较强的毒性,4h死亡率达63.33%,仅次于鱼藤酮精稀释100倍(4h的死亡率达80%),而樟树、羊蹄甲(Bauhinia variegata)、黄素馨、白兰花和草胡椒的乙醇提取物与对照没有差异,对蚜茧蜂安全、无毒.  相似文献

Caged cauliflower plants infected with either cabbage black ring spot virus (CBRSV) or cauliflower mosaic virus (CIMV) were colonized with Myzus persicae or Brevicoryne brassicae. Winged and wingless aphids that voluntarily flew or walked from these plants were transferred singly to healthy cauliflower or other brassica seedlings to compare their feeding behaviour and ability to transmit the viruses. Wingless aphids settled to probe more readily than winged, and B. brassicae was initially more restless than M. persicae. CIMV was more readily transmitted than CBRSV by both species, and B. brassicae rarely transmitted CBRSV. Wingless aphids transmitted less often than winged ones, and no wingless B. brassicae transmitted CBRSV, although they did CIMV. Fewer aphids transmitted CBRSV from old plants than from young ones, but plant age had little effect on CIMV transmission.  相似文献

Pea mosaic virus was transmitted by Myzus persicae Sulz., Macrosiphum pisi Kalt., M. solanifolii Ash. and Aphis fabae Scop., but not by Hyperomyzus staphyleae Koch. It is a 'non-persistent' virus (Watson & Roberts, 1939), and is most readily transmitted when vectors are fasted and then given a short infection feeding. Vector efficiency was not increased by increases in preliminary fasting beyond 15 min. or with increasing infection feeding beyond 1 hr. Most aphids became non-infective within 15 min. when feeding, but fasting aphids remained infective for 3 hr. Species that fed readily on the infected plants were less efficient vectors than those which did not. Seed set by infected plants produced healthy seedlings.
Pea enation mosaic virus persisted in Myzus persicae and Macrosiphum pisi for more than 140 hr.; its transmission was unaffected by preliminary treatments of aphids. No transmission was obtained until at least 4 hr. after aphids had left infected plants; usually the 'latent' period exceeded 1 day and its duration was apparently unaffected by the length of the infection feeding.  相似文献

Abstract A potyvirus was isolated from Vanilla fragrans exhibiting leaf distortion, chlorotic and necrotic lesions and vine die-back. The virus can be propagated in Nicotiana clevelandii and N. benthamiana and induces local lesions in Chenopodium amaranticolor and C. quinoa. The flexuous particles have a mean length of 765 nm, pinwheel inclusions are found in systemically infected N. benthamiana leaves and SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis indicates a single polypeptide of M 32.7 × 103. The virus is transmissible from N. clevelandii to N. clevelandii by the aphid species Myzus persicae and Aphis gossypii. A polyclonal antiserum raised to the Tongan potyvirus failed to react, with the potyvirus associated with mosaic symptoms of V. tahitensis in French Polynesia and ISEM failed to detect any close relationship to 22 other potyviruses.  相似文献

The cucurbit aphid–borne yellows virus (CABYV) is a new tentative member of the luteovirus group which is transmitted persistently by Myzus persicae and Aphis gossypii.
In muskmelon plants, mixed infection with CABYV and zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV) induced an increase in CABYV concentration estimated by double antibody sandwich–enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (DAS–ELISA), which was maximum after 3 weeks, of co–infection.
Assays, conducted with other cucurbit hosts and sap–transmissible viruses showed that a similar increase occurred with most of the potyviruses tested. However, cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) and squash mosaic virus (SqMV) were inefficient for less efficient than potyviruses) in increasing CABYV concentration.
Aphid transmission experiments were conducted to check whether increased virus multiplication could either enhance transmission rates or modify the mode of CABYV acquisition by aphids. However, when A. gossypii was used, no increases in CABYV, transmissibility nor in its acquisition mode were detected.  相似文献

A new virus associated with mosaic, yellowing and necrotic symptoms in escarole has been isolated recently in southern Italy. The virus, for which the name escarole mosaic virus (EMV) is proposed, was transmissible by mechanical methods, by seeds and probably by pollen but not by Acyrthosiphon pisum, Aphis gossypii, Myzus persicae, Trialeurodes vaporariorum or Frankliniella occidentalis. The virions showed a single coat protein of about 32 kDa and eight encapsidated RNA species. Viral preparations sedimented as four components in sucrose density gradients. Electron microscopy indicated the presence of spherical particles with a diameter of 25 nm. Ultrastructural investigations on infected tissues revealed the formation of atypical inclusion bodies.  相似文献

Abstract.  1. This study first measured the effect of plant (radish, pepper, and wheat), aphid–plant combination (the green peach aphid Myzus persicae on pepper and radish, and the bird cherry-oat aphid Rhopalosiphum padi on wheat) and the host on which Aphidius colemani was reared (the cotton aphid Aphis gossypii on cucumber, M. persicae on radish and pepper, and R. padi on wheat) on host choice behaviour of the parasitoid and the performance of its offspring. Then, the effect of predator presence ( Coccinella undecimpunctata larvae) on host preference of the wasps was tested.
2. When reared on M. persicae on either radish or pepper , wasps preferred the aphid–plant combination from which they had emerged. Wasps reared on A. gossypii (naïve to all hosts offered) and R. padi preferred to parasitise M. persicae on radish and M. persicae on either radish or pepper, respectively. Rhopalosiphum padi on wheat was the least preferred and also the least suitable host, as determined by offspring body size.
3. Contrary to expectations, the presence of predators did not influence the host choice of A. colemani , even when predator-free plants were offered nearby. Results indicate that wasps are more likely to remain in some host systems but not in others, even when facing risk of predation.
4. Results are discussed in respect to field data and the relative importance of risk of predation and host preference to wasp fitness.  相似文献

Mangold clamps in many districts of the British Isles were found to provide overwintering sites for Myzus persicae (Sulz.), Hyperomyzns staphyleae (Koch) and Aulacorthum solani (Kalt.). After a severe winter, when other means of overwintering are few, clamps may be the most important source of Myzus persicae. Only Myzus ascalonicus Doncaster was found in swede clamps.
Factors affecting the infestation of clamped mangolds by M. persicae were the number of aphids on the crop when lifted, the methods of topping and clamping the roots, and the temperature in the clamp. M. persicae was introduced on the leaves, and close topping was often an efficient means of control. Close topping did not control Hyperomyzus staphyleae; normally, this aphid does not seem to be a root-feeding species, but with artificially colonized mangolds it fed on both exposed roots and foliage. It is not known how this species enters the clamps. The temperature in clamps was influenced by that of the outside air and the type of cover, but changes were long-term and did not reflect diurnal variations in external air temperature. Straw, covered with soil, was the best form of cover.
In addition to harbouring Myzus persicae , mangold clamps are also important sources of sugar-beet yellows virus.  相似文献

Zucchini yellow mosaic potyvirus (ZYMV) is prevalent in different cucurbit growing agro-ecosystems in Sudan. A study of the biological and serological variability of isolates originating from different regions was conducted to better understand ZYMV epidemiology and to develop adapted and durable control strategies. Variability was detected among isolates regarding symptomatology, host range and virulence towards the Zym resistance gene in melon ( Cucumis melo L.) PI 414723. Serological variability was also revealed using a set of seven differential monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) raised against a French isolate (ZYMV-E9). Six serotypes were differentiated, but a majority of isolates (88%) reacted with all the mAbs as did the reference strains from Italy and France. All isolates from Sudan were equally well controlled by the resistance genes described in squash ( Cucurhita moschata (Duchesne) Duchesne ex Poir. cvs. Menina and Nigeria) and in cucumber ( Cucumis sativus L. cv. TMG), or by cross protection with the mild ZYMV-WK strain. All isolates were transmitted in a nonpersistent manner by Aphis gossypii Glover and Myzus persicae Sulzer.  相似文献

采用浸渍法测定了黄荆二氯甲烷种子提取物、吡虫啉和氧乐果对苹果黄蚜、棉蚜和桃蚜的毒力,利用毛细管点滴法测定了黄荆二氯甲烷种子提取物与吡虫啉混配对棉蚜的联合毒力,采用皿内选择法测定了黄荆二氯甲烷种子提取物和吡虫啉等药剂对桃蚜的驱避效应.结果表明:黄荆二氯甲烷种子提取物对苹果黄蚜、棉蚜和桃蚜的LC50分别为334.59、362.79和2685.80 mg·L-1,对苹果黄蚜和棉蚜的杀虫毒力较高.黄荆二氯甲烷种子提取物与吡虫啉按1000 ∶1混用,其共毒系数可达177.45,增效作用显著.黄荆二氯甲烷种子提取物和吡虫啉对桃蚜均有明显的驱避活性,处理后24和48 h 对桃蚜的驱避率分别达55.75%、39.44 %和69.89%、65.43%.噻虫嗪和啶虫脒也有一定驱避活性,处理后24和48 h对桃蚜的驱避率达16.52%~33.68%.  相似文献

Biological, serological and coat protein properties of a potyvirus (Poty-Rape) causing a mosaic disease of Brassica campestris and B. juncea in India were investigated. The virus readily infected 4 of the 5 plant species in the family Brassicaceae in which it induced severe systemic mosaic symptoms; it also induced chlorotic and necrotic local lesions in Chenopodium amaranticolor , but failed to infect 4 other species of Chenopodiaceae or 20 species of Amaranthaceae, Apiaceae, Canabinaceae, Compositae, Cucurbitaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Leguminosae and Solanaceae. The virus was transmitted in a non-persistant manner by Myzus persicae, Brevicoryne brassicae and Aphis gossypii. The Average size, of the virus particles in a purified preparation was 740 nm × 12 nm. SDS-PAGE analysis of the viral coat protein showed two major bands of approximately 37 kDa and 31 kDa, a pattern very similar to that of a reference isolate of turnip mosaic virus (TuMV) from the U.S. In Western-blot immunoassay, an antiserum to TuMV reacted with both the coat protein bands of the Poty-Rape islate and the reference TuMV, but not with the coat proteins of four other potyviruses. The high performance liquid chromatographic profile of tryptic peptides from the coat protein of Poty-Rape was found to be very similar to that of the reference TuMV, but differed substantially from those of four other potyviruses. The Poty-Rape isolate is considered to be a distinct strain of, TuMV.  相似文献

Invasive ant species can have dramatic impacts on native ants, through direct predation and by usurping common resources. Most invasive ants and many native ants use honeydew, produced by phloem-sucking hemipterans. Because colonies of invasive ants can become very large after establishment, these ants may facilitate greater hemipteran trophobiont population growth compared with their sympatric native ant counterparts. We examined the population growth of an aphid mutualist, Aphis gossypii, and a nonmutualist, Myzus persicae, exposed to two Dolichoderine ants, Linepithema humile, a globally widespread invasive species, and Tapinoma sessile, a widespread co-occurring native ant, in North America in an enemy-free laboratory study. L. humile worker foraging activity was at least twice that of T. sessile, and populations of the myrmecophile, A. gossypii, were greater when exposed to L. humile than T. sessile, possibly caused, in part, by more frequent encounters with L. humile. L. humile ignored M. persicae when A. gossypii was absent, whereas T. sessile preyed on it. Both ant species preyed on M. persicae when A. gossypii was also present. This suggested that both ants may assess nutritional gains from aphid species (i.e., honeydew versus body tissue), eliminating less productive aphids competing for host plant space. Through their impact on populations of hemipteran mutualists, we suggest that colonies of L. humile and perhaps other invasive ants may acquire more honeydew than native ants, thereby fueling colony growth that leads to numerical dominance and widespread success in introduced environments.  相似文献
