Every two months, diel depth profiles were made of dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature and conductivity at two stations in Lake Kissimmee, Florida, from July 1974 through June 1975. Results suggest that stratification does not occur in the large (137 km2), shallow (mean depth 2.5 m) lake, though steep vertical gradients in these parameters may develop. The data also suggest that when these gradients do occur, they rapidly degenerate at night or under slight wind stress. Since many Florida lakes are relatively shallow (mean depth < 5 m) and topography offers little obstruction to wind action, it is believed that the holomictic condition observed in Lake Kissimmee may be typical of the state's lakes, particularly those in the central portion of the peninsula.  相似文献

Relationships between physico-chemical factors of waters, riparian vegetation, altitude and species richness of the hyphomycete communities in six rivers and a sulfur spring in the Western Ghats of Karnataka were analysed statistically. Linear regression and correlation between log fungal species and riparian vegetation was highly significant. The similarity in the fungal diversity between different rivers and the sulphur spring was evaluated by Sorensen's index. Generally, the indices of similarity in the mycoflora between the streams were high. However, in the streams of Lakya, Bhadra, Ranganathittu bird sanctuary and the sulfur spring the indices of similarity were low compared with the rest of the water systems. The low pH, low oxygen concentration, hardness, high iron, high temperature and sulfide contents of the waters of these streams are thought to be the reasons for the differences in these streams. Anguillospora longissima, Helicomyces roseus, Lunulospora curvula, Triscelophorus monosporus and Wiesneriomyces laurinus were found to be the most abundant species.  相似文献

The present paper deals with a comparative study of the physico-chemical characteristics of river and lake waters in Central India. The surface water has been analysed for pH, turbidity, conductivity, alkalinity, dissolved oxygen and chlorides. The results of analyses of river water have been compared with those from lake water.The study reveals that the lake water is highly turbid, rich in organic matter, contains more of chlorides and has a higher pH value as compared to river water.  相似文献

Engineering approaches (nutrient removal, sediment pumping, hypolimnion oxygenation, alum treatments) may be most appropriate to deep lakes where the aim of restoration from eutrophication is simply to reduce the production and crop of one component, the phytoplankton. They do not always give the desired results because the nutrient loading may only be reduced to a limited extent. There are additional problems in shallow lakes where change of state between community dominance (aquatic plants versus plankton) is wanted. Each community has powerful buffering mechanisms and biomanipulation may be essential to switch one state to another even with considerable nutrient reduction. For the phytoplankton-dominated community the buffers include the advantages of early growth, lower diffusion pathways for CO2, overhead shading, and an absence of large cladoceran grazers. This later is because open-water shallow environments provide no refuges against predation for the large Cladocera which are both the most efficient grazers and the most favoured prey for fish. Restoration of aquatic plants may then require provision of refuges for the grazers. Different sorts of refuge are discussed using case studies of Hoveton Great Broad and Cockshoot Broad in the Norfolk Broadland.  相似文献

We evaluated the nitrogen and phosphorus concentration of floating meadows of Eichhornia azurea and Scirpus cubensis in Lagoa do Infernao (State of Sao Paulo, Brazil). The chemical composition of these plants and of the water (littoral and limnetic zones) was determined during the period March 1987 to march 1988. During high water, the water becomes enriched by soluble nutrients and particulates washed from the flooded areas adjacent to the lake, especially from areas situated between the river and Lagoa do Infernão. The soluble allochthonous material is rapidly assimilated and stocked in the plant tissues, which results in an increase in its concentration. Besides this, it was established that the aquatic macrophytes studied utilize the nutrients dissolved in the water of the floating meadow itself, these nutrients being derived principally from their own decomposition.Since these are floating stands, the sediment does not function as a direct source of nutrients, and since concentrations in the water are low, the nutrients excreted by the aquatic macrophytes during growth and liberated during decomposition do not remain available in the water, but are rapidly absorbed by the young plants.This closed nutrient system makes possible the maintenance of the high biomass of the stands during the entire hydrological cycle.  相似文献

光衰减对沉水植物的生长具有至关重要的影响。系统归纳总结了光衰减及其相关环境因子对沉水植物生长的影响,指出:光因子是沉水植物生长的第一环境要素,水体中的有色可溶性有机质、浮游植物叶片细胞中的叶绿素和悬浮颗粒物以及水体本身,对光穿透水体时光强的衰减有着直接的影响,是影响沉水植物最重要的光衰减水质参数。其他环境因子如营养盐、沉积物和流水动力学等因素,则会直接或间接影响光衰减水质参数,进而影响水体透明度和浑浊度,影响沉水植物的光合作用,是影响沉水植物光衰减的间接环境因子。提出了研究中重点关注的几个问题。  相似文献

Disappearance of oxytetracycline resistance genes in aquatic systems   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The disappearance of selected tetracycline resistance genes was investigated in different simulated receiving waters to determine conditions that maximize resistance gene loss after release. Wastewater from an operating cattle feedlot lagoon was provided to four pairs of duplicate 3-L flasks, and tet(O), tet(W), tet(M), tet(Q), and 16S rRNA gene levels were monitored over 29 days using real-time PCR. Treatments included simulated sunlight with 0, 25, and 250 microg L(-1) nominal oxytetracycline (OTC) levels, respectively, and 'dark' conditions. Gene disappearance rates were always highest when light was present, regardless of OTC level. First-order loss coefficients (k(d)) for the sum of resistance genes were 0.84, 0.75, and 0.81 day(-1) for 0.0, 25, and 250 microg L(-1) OTC treatments over the first 7 days after release, respectively, whereas k(d) was 0.49 day(-1) under dark conditions, which is significantly lower (P<0.10). k(d) varied fourfold among the four individual genes, although disappearance patterns were similar among genes. Results suggest that light exposure should be maximized in receiving waters in order to maximize resistance gene loss rate after release.  相似文献

Decomposition of water hyacinth detritus in eutrophic lake water   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
A study was conducted to determine the seasonal production of detritus by water hyacinths [Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Sohns] cultured in eutrophic Lake Apopka water, and the decomposition of detritus in situ and under laboratory conditions. Annual averages for C, N and P deposited through detritus production at the sediment-water interface were 2870, 176 and 19 kg ha-1 yr-1, respectively.Decomposition rates were faster in the root zone of hyacinth mats than at the sediment-water interface. Approximately 92% of the detritus C deposited at the sediment-water interface was decomposed in one year, while only 11% of the detrital organic N was mineralized. Detrital tissue gained P during decomposition, suggesting P limitation for the system. Dry-weight loss of detrital tissue was significantly correlated with the mass of C lost (r 2 = 0.947**), C/N ratio (r 2 = 0.644**) and C/P ratio (r 2 = 0.428**).Florida Agricultural Experiment Stations Journal Series No. R-00348.  相似文献

A well-developed aerenchyma is a major characteristic of aquatic plants. However, because such tissues are also found in wetland and terrestrial plants, it is not always possible to use their presence or absence to distinguish aquatic species. Whereas patterns of aerenchyma in roots have been studied in detail, those of the shoots have not. We collected and tested 110 species of various aquatic and wetland plants, including ferns (5), basal angiosperms (5), monocots (65), and eudicots (35). Three common and two rare types of aerenchyma were observed in their roots (three schizogeny and two lysigeny), plus five types of schizogeny in their shoots. We re-confirmed that, although a well-developed aerenchyma is more common in most organs of aquatic plants than in wetland plants, this presence cannot be used as strict evidence for the aquatic quality of vascular plants. Here, aerenchyma patterns were stable at the genus level, and the consistency of pattern was stronger in the roots than in the shoots. Furthermore, significant trends were verified in several higher taxa, and those consistencies of patterns partially coincided with their phylogeny.  相似文献

High levels of nutrients in fish ponds by fish farming may cause significant eutrophication leading to a loss in species richness and a decrease of cover of aquatic plants to phytoplankton dominance. This shift can be represented by a tipping point where a significant change in the state of the ecosystem is observed such as a change from high to low aquatic plants species richness and cover. A total of 100 fish ponds were studied during five years in the Dombes region, France, to determine tipping points in aquatic plant richness and cover using chlorophyll α (CHL), water transparency, Total N (TN) and Total P (TP) gradients with two statistical methods. The relationships between tipping points, nutrient loads and yearly variations in weather conditions were also evaluated. Looking at the five years data, tipping points were observed in aquatic plant richness at 6 and 60 μg/L for CHL, and at 3.90 mg/L for TN concentration; as well as at 70 cm for water transparency, but no tipping point was found with TP. For aquatic plant cover, tipping points were observed at 11 μg/L for CHL, 2.42 mg/L for TN, 0.05 mg/L for TP, and at 62 cm for water transparency. These tipping points showed a significant decrease of aquatic plant species richness and cover, linked to the nutrient concentrations which drive the competition between the primary producers phytoplankton and aquatic plants. However, tipping points could vary significantly between years. The inter-annual variability may be due to an early occurrence of phytoplankton blooms in some ponds in a year preventing the establishment of aquatic plants, and thus influencing the value of tipping points. Weather conditions influence the competition between primary producers by impacting chlorophyll α and nutrients concentrations. When weather conditions supported increased nutrient concentrations, the development of phytoplankton and aquatic plants was facilitated and tipping points in aquatic plant richness and cover occurred with relatively high values. Thus, a significant decrease of plant cover and richness occurred at higher level of nutrients compared to the other years. In these cases, aquatic plants dominated over phytoplankton for the spring period, and also often during summer. In conclusion, tipping points observed are mainly linked to the competition between aquatic plants and phytoplankton. In shallow and eutrophic systems like fish ponds where nutrients are not a limiting resource, weather conditions act temporarily during spring as the main regulator of this competition.  相似文献

对永定河水系官厅水库黑土洼人工湿地系统的生物多样性、水质变化及其相关性进行了研究。在该系统中共检出浮游藻类8门、94种,平均密度为980.93×104cells/L,与TP呈线性正相关。群落中绿藻(Chlorophyta)占36.8%,硅藻(Bacillario-phyta)占31.0%,蓝藻(Cyanophyta)占23.4%。密度去除率为72.7%;水生维管束植物有7科、13种,分别构成不同的挺水或沉水植物群落;浮游动物群落由原生动物(Protozoa)、轮虫类(Rotifera)、枝角类(Cladocera)、桡足类(Copepoda)构成,共检出70种。平均密度为4883ind./L。以原生动物和轮虫为主,呈现出小型化、物种多样性低的特点。密度去除率为81.9%,与浮游藻类呈二次曲线相关;底栖动物群落由寡毛类(Olisochaeta)、水生昆虫(Uniramia)、甲壳类(Crustacea)和软体动物(Mollusca)构成,共检出15种。平均密度为5670ind./m2(水生昆虫占62.3%),密度去除率为92.4%。黑土洼湿地系统通过物理、化学和生物的协同作用,对永定河水中的污染物有显著的净化作用,主要表现为对CODMn、BOD5、TN、NH4-N、NO3-N、TP、PO4-P和SS的去除率为52.9%~99.1%。TP与BOD5呈线性正相关。  相似文献

We examined temporal changes in spatial patterns of submersed aquatic vegetation (SAV) in response to the restoration of geomorphic habitat in Navigation Pool 8 of the Upper Mississippi River from 1998 to 2016. The frequency of occurrence and species composition of SAV at sampling sites were spatially interpolated for each year to create annual maps. Linear models were fitted to temporal changes in SAV within each map pixel. The frequency of occurrence of SAV (across all species) increased over time in much of the impounded region of the pool, including areas near restored islands. However, impounded areas maintained a relatively consistent species composition over time, with species known to be tolerant of higher flow velocities (>0.10 m/second) and wind fetch distances (>1,000 m) (e.g. Vallisneria americana) being most abundant. In contrast, areas protected by newly constructed islands transitioned from V. americana to species found in other protected backwater habitats and known to be intolerant of high flow velocities and wind fetch distances (e.g. Ceratophyllum demersum). The results suggest that previously reported improvements in water clarity may have improved growing conditions for all SAV species, especially in the lower impounded portion of the pool, while island restoration created more backwater‐like habitats and facilitated changes in species composition. Assessing changes in SAV occurrence alone offers only a partial view of local‐scale river restoration (e.g. island building), while analyses of species composition are likely to be more indicative of the types of changes (i.e. reduced flow velocity and wind fetch) associated with restoring geomorphic habitat.  相似文献

Hydrocotyle ranunculoides L.f. is a stoloniferous perennial plant with floating and emergent leaves that is native to Europe. It is commonly used as an aquarium plant with little published information on its biology and natural range. In 1983 H. ranunculoides was first observed in the urban drainage network in the Canning River Regional Park, Western Australia. By 1991 the plant had extended throughout the drainage network into the river and adjacent wetlands. H. ranunculoides formed extensive mats, disrupting the ecology and recreational uses of the waterways, and posed a threat to other waterways. It is not known to be invasive in other Australian waterways. A group of state and local government and community members assessed environmental, technical and social interactions and developed an integrated managementstrategy for the weed, using a combination of physical, chemical and ecological techniques. The environmental significance of the affected waterways required the programme to be accompanied by appropriate ecological surveillance. The initial short-term control phase was completed successfully. An assessment of water quality and aquatic invertebrates during the initial phase showed only short-term disruption of river ecology following physical and chemical control. The occurrences of aquatic macrophytes were studied at 430 sites in central North America with respect to total alkalinity, chloride, sulphate, molybdenum reactive phosphorus and dissolved organic matter. Mean niche positions were calculated for the combination of 5 parameters by comparing mean values for each species using agglomerative hierarchical cluster analysis. Overall niche relations were examined by calculating and summing the amount of overlap in the observed ecological tolerance ranges for the 5 parameters for each species pair, and applying cluster and principal component analysis. The results showed that the macrophytes occupied a broad spectrum of niches, ranging from species found at low inorganic concentrations and narrow tolerance ranges, to species occupying broad ranges in the study area. Species with similar overall niches differed with respect to their mean niche positions, and vice versa. Macrophytes with similar niche positions may use a number of strategies to reduce interspecific competition.  相似文献

The European Water Framework Directive requires ecological status classification and monitoring of surface and ground water bodies using biological indicators. To fulfill the demands of the Directive, a macrophyte‐based assessment system was developed for application on four lake site types in Germany. Biological lake site types were established using differences in characteristic macrophyte communities, reflecting ecoregion, Ca2+ content, mixis and morphology. Ecological status classification of lake sites is based on macrophyte abundance along 275 transects in 95 natural German lakes and the calculation of a reference index value, in some cases supplemented by submerged vegetation data. The reference index quantifies the deviation of species composition and abundance from reference conditions and classifies sites to one of the five ecological quality classes specified in the Directive. 湖南茶陵湖里沼泽(北纬26°50'、东经113°40')为一山地沼泽,面积0.15平方公里,海拔150米。对该沼泽的生境及水生植物进行了考察。采集到维管植物62种,其中,普通野稻(Oryza rufipogon)、长喙毛莨泽泻(Ranalisma rostrata)等为珍稀、濒危植物,总种数和珍稀、濒危植物种数多于我国大部分湖泊、沼泽。物种多样性程度之高与其水生生境的复杂性与稳定性有关。建议对这些珍稀、濒危水生植物及其生境采取保护措施。  相似文献

An ecological study was conducted in May and June of 1995 and 1996 in South Carolina to determine the factors associated with distributions of aquatic Lepidoptera (Crambidae: Nymphulinae). Larvae were found at 65 lotic and lentic sites in three ecoregions (Piedmont, Sandhills, Coastal Plain). Nine species of aquatic Lepidoptera were collected from 12 species of aquatic vascular macrophytes. One to six plant species were used as hosts, depending on the species of lepidopteran; however, the number of host plants used by a lepidopteran was significantly correlated with the lepidopteran's frequency of occurrence. Significant habitat associations were found for five species. Langessa nomophilalis (Dyar) was found under the widest range of temperature and width and occurred in both lotic and lentic habitats. Munroessa icciusalis (Walker) was found in lotic and lentic habitats and had the widest range of recorded depths. Parapoynx maculalis (Clemens) occurred at stream sites with lentic-like conditions. Parapoynx obscuralis (Grote) occupied the widest range of pH and was restricted to lotic habitats, and P. seminealis (Walker) was found in both lotic and lentic habitats. Additional species, collected at fewer than 8% of sites, included M. gyralis, P. allionealis, Synclita obliteralis, and S. tinealis. Overall, the distributions of aquatic Lepidoptera in South Carolina were nonrandom and predictable on the basis of habitat characteristics. Geographical patterns of species turnover in aquatic plant communities   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
1. A classic theory in biogeography predicts that high latitude communities are unstable. This may be because of decreased species richness or decreased environmental predictability and productivity towards the poles.
2. We studied latitudinal patterns in long-term community persistence of aquatic vascular plants in 112 Finnish lakes, situated within a 1000-km range from the northernmost to the southernmost lake.
3. Contrary to theoretical predictions, we found that the turnover rate of plant species in 45 years was inversely related to latitude. That is, plant communities in northern lakes were more persistent than communities in southern lakes. When we used multiple regression to find the best predictors of species turnover rate (TR), latitude was the only variable that was highly significantly related to species turnover rate. Area, species number, water transparency, pH and change in transparency did not notably explain the gradient observed.
4. The latitudinal trend was mainly because of lower species immigration rates at higher latitudes, whereas extinction rate did not so strongly decrease with increasing latitude. Immigrations and extinctions in the lakes were not in balance: the species numbers between the 1930s and 1980s increased more strongly in the southern than northern lakes.
5. We suggest that the inverse relationship between latitude and plant species TR in Finland is most probably caused by human influence on lakes, especially eutrophication and immigration of new species in southern latitudes. In addition, although species richness per lake did not decrease towards the north, the total species pool probably does, which means that in the north there are fewer species that can actually immigrate.  相似文献
