Summary By taking special precautions it was possible to obtain dispersed growth of the filamentous sewage fungus Fusarium aquaeductuum in a chemostat. The growth followed the Monod theory. However, there appeared to be slight anomalies in maximum specific growth rate and yield factor. An extremely low K s value of 0.3 mg glucose/l was found which is suggested to be of ecological significance for the occurrence of the organism in polluted, yet oxygen rich rivers.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the potential to remove chromium (Cr) from aqueous solutions using the fruiting body of Auricularia polytricha. Batch experiments were conducted under various conditions, and different models were used to characterize the biosorption process. Results showed that, for both fresh and dried fruiting bodies of A. polytricha, removal efficiencies of Cr(VI) and total Cr reached maximum values at pH values of 1 and 2, respectively. The process of Cr(VI) removal by A. polytricha included the sorption process as well as the reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III). Spectra of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy of the biosorbent revealed that most of the Cr loaded on the biomass surface was in the trivalent form. The Freundlich model fitted the isotherm process better than the Langmuir model in the concentration range examined. The pseudo-second-order model well described the adsorption process of Cr onto the biomass. The biosorption capacity of Cr(VI) by fruiting bodies was much higher than that by most of other biosorbents reported. The results suggest that the fruiting bodies of A. polytricha should be a promising biomaterial for Cr removal from water contaminated by the heavy metal.  相似文献

Removal of lead from aqueous solutions by Penicillium biomass   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
The removal of lead ions from aqueous solutions by adsorption on nonliving Penicillium chrysogenum biomass was studied. Biosorption of the Pb(+2) ion was strongly affected by pH. Within a pH range of 4 to 5, the saturated sorption uptake of Pb(+2) was 116 mg/g dry biomass, higher than that of activated charcoal and some other microorganisms. At pH 4.5, P. chrysogenum biomass exhibited selectivity for Pb(+2) over other metal ions such as Cd(+2), Cu(+2), Zn(+2), and As(+3) Sorption preference for metals decreased in the following order: Pb > Cd > Cu > Zn > As. The sorption uptake of Pb(+2) remained unchanged in the presence of Cu(+2) and As(+3), it decreased in the presence of Zn(+2), and increased in the presence of Cd(+2). 对某城市污水处理厂沉砂池的臭气进行了生物过滤处理。生物过滤池滤料层高1.5m,滤料体积55m3,臭气处理量为12000m3·h-1。对除臭效果120d的监测和研究结果表明,进气中H2S浓度在1.96~4.63mg·m-3之间,NH3的浓度为2.21~5.68mg·m-3。处理后,出气中H2S的浓度在0.03~0.97mg·m-3间,去除率均达80%以上,NH3浓度最高值仅为0.46mg·m-3,低于1.0mg·m-3的一级排放标准。生物除臭复合微生物主要包括细菌、酵母和霉菌,其中细菌含量最高,每克干滤料细菌含量达1.8~3.1×108CFU。菌种鉴定结果表明,除臭菌主要有芽孢杆菌属(Bacillus)、假单胞菌属(Pseudomonas)、动胶菌属(Zoogloea)、不动杆菌属(Acinetobacter)、硫杆菌属(Thiobacillus)、酵母属(Saceharomyces)、假丝酵母属(Candida)、曲霉属(Aspergillus)、青霉属(Penicillium)、根霉属(Rhizopus)等种属的微生物。  相似文献

Septic shock syndrome is a potentially fatal medical condition that is associated with elevated blood levels of low molecular weight proteins known as cytokines. Adsorption was investigated as a potential method for removing cytokines from blood. Saline with 50 mg/mL human serum albumin (HAS) spiked with pathological concentrations (ng-pg/mL) of radiolabeled cytokine was used to study cytokine adsorption. Adsorption isotherms were linear in the pathological concentration range, with adsorption constants ranging from 33.0 mL/g to 173 mL/g for tumor necrosis factor (TNF-alpha), interleukin-8 (IL-8),interleukin-6 (IL-6), and C3a. Adsorption constants were also determined for interleukin-1alpha (IL-1alpha), IL-1beta, and interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma). The adsorption of cytokines by several different silica adsorbents was investigated. Increased concentrations of NaCl reduced cytokine adsorption, but did not completely eliminate adsorption even at high concentrations, suggesting that adsorption wads not entirely electrostatic in nature. Possible mechanisms of cytokine adsorption are discussed. Data for batch adsorption for TNF-alpha was used to estimate the minimum amount of silica required to treat septic shock. It was concluded that a silica adsorbent has a sufficiently high capacity to be used for hemoperfusion. Adsorption of myoglobin and cytochrome c was also investigated as possible marker proteins for future dynamic adsorption studies in hemoperfusion devices. (c) 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

采用自然曝气生物滤床工艺处理污水处理厂尾水中抗生素,对生物滤床中抗生素的去除特点和影响因素进行研究。研究结果发现,自然曝气生物滤床能够有效地去除四环素类抗生素(58±2)%、喹诺酮类抗生素(48±20)%和大环内酯类抗生素(18±11)%。微生物降解和物理吸附是生物滤床去除抗生素的主要途径,而这两种途径的协同作用则延长了生物滤床的运行周期。结果还表明,水力负荷对抗生素的去除效率影响较大,当水力负荷为4.8~6.4m/d时,生物滤床对抗生素有较好的处理效果。此外,水质参数(水温、pH、COD浓度和硝化作用等)在一定程度上也可以影响生物滤床对抗生素的处理效果。  相似文献

The present study involves an investigation of various treated fungal biomasses of Aspergillus niger for the removal of thallium from aqueous solutions. Batch pH and kinetic studies were carried out to examine the effects of pH and contact time on the adsorption process. Among various pH values studied, the optimum pH was found to be between 4 and 5. The equilibrium time for Tl adsorption was found to be 6h and the rate of Tl adsorption was rapid in the initial hours. Both Lagergren's pseudo first-order model and Ho's pseudo second-order model well described the reaction kinetics. Batch adsorption experiments conducted at room temperature (22+/-1 degrees C) showed that the adsorption pattern followed the Freundlich isotherm model. Column studies using iron oxide-coated immobilized fungal biomass showed lower adsorption capacities compared to batch studies.  相似文献

Removal of lead from aqueous solutions by agricultural waste maize bran   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
Maize bran is a low cost biosorbent that has been used for the removal of lead(II) from an aqueous solution. The effects of various parameters such as contact time, adsorbate concentration, pH of the medium and temperature were examined. Optimum removal at 20 degrees C was found to be 98.4% at pH 6.5, with an initial Pb(II) concentration of 100 mg l(-1). Dynamics of the sorption process and mass transfer of Pb(II) to maize bran were investigated and the values of rate constant of adsorption, rate constant of intraparticle diffusion and the mass transfer coefficients were calculated. Different thermodynamic parameters viz., changes in standard free energy, enthalpy and entropy were evaluated and it was found that the reaction was spontaneous and exothermic in nature. The adsorption data fitted the Langmuir isotherm. A generalized empirical model was proposed for the kinetics at different initial concentrations. The data were subjected to multiple regression analysis and a model was developed to predict the removal of Pb(II) from an aqueous solution.  相似文献

Removal of heavy metals present in wastewaters has been a major concern due to their non-biodegradability and toxicity. Removal of copper ion using NaOH treated Rhizopus oryzae biomass was investigated in a batch reactor. The copper uptake exhibited substantial enhancement both in terms of kinetics of uptake as well as the loading capacity. The copper biosorption by viable and pretreated fungal biomass fit well to a Lagergren's pseudo second order reaction in comparison to pseudo first order kinetics. Investigation on effect of pH indicated improved performance in the range of pH 4-6 in alkali treated biomass. Copper uptake exhibited by viable biomass was highest at 21 degrees C, unlike pretreated biomass that showed maximum uptake across the range of temperature 21-55 degrees C. The maximum copper loading capacity of the viable and pretreated biomass according to Langmuir isotherm was 19.4 and 43.7 mg/g, respectively. Distribution coefficient of pretreated biomass showed improvement at lower residual concentration, indicating a change in the nature of binding by the treated biomass. Copper uptake decreased with an increasing dose of biosorbent, although enhancement in the total metal ion removal was observed at higher dose.  相似文献

Dihydroxyethyltetrahydrofuryl chitosan (which is obtained from Euphausia superba chitosan upon Schiff reaction with dehydroascorbic acid and subsequent reduction of the ketimine obtained) can accumulate uranium from aqueous solutions, including 3% saline waters. By this chemical modification, the characteristic property of the chitosan-glucan complexes of fungal origin which collect uranium by chelation and hydrolysis is conferred to krill and shrimp chitosans. The capacity of dihydroxyethyltetrahydrofuryl chitosan is 1·0 g U/g and is about one order of magnitude higher than that of the cells of Rhizopus arrhizus and about two orders of magnitude higher than the mycelia of Penicillium digitatum.  相似文献

Non-living (dried) biomass of five common filamentous algae belonging to Chlorophyta and Cyanophyta (Cyanobacteria) were screened for their metal ion sorption and removal efficiency in a batch system. A considerably higher magnitude of sorption of Pb2+ and Cu2+ by all the tested algae suggests the prevalence of Pb2+- and Cu2+-binding ligands in them. The Langmuir isotherm could more appropriately describe metal sorption by the test algae than the Freundlich isotherm. A 1 g l−1 biomass concentration of Pithophora odeogonia and Spirogyra neglecta, respectively removed 97 and 89% Pb2+in 30 min from a solution containing 5 mg l−1 initial concentration of Pb2+. Metal ion removal by the test algae decreased with increase in metal concentration in the solution. S. neglecta could remove >70% Pb2+ even from a solution containing 75 mg Pb2+ l−1. S. neglecta and P. oedogonia could remove more than 75% of Pb2+ and Cu2+ from a multi-metal solution, and therefore have tremendous potential for removing Pb2+and Cu2+ from wastewaters containing several metal ions simultaneously. Other test algae, namely, Hydrodictyon reticulatum, Cladophora calliceima and Aulosira fertilissima were relatively less efficient in removing metal ions from solution.  相似文献

The fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium was immobilized in several polymer matrices: Ca-alginate, Ca-alginate-polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and pectin, and was then used as a biosorbent for removing 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) in wastewater. Immobilization of P. chrysosporium onto pectin was less efficient than that onto other matrices because of its poor mechanical strength and low adsorption efficiency. Ca-alginate immobilized fungal beads with biocompatibility exhibited good mechanical strength and adsorption efficiency over 60%. Among the different biomass dosages in Ca-alginate immobilized fungal beads, 1.25% (w/v) was the optimum. The adsorption data of 2,4-DCP on the blank Ca-alginate beads, free, and immobilized fungal biomass could be described by the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms very well. Desorption operation was efficiently completed by using distilled water as eluant, and the desorption efficiency reached 82.16% at an optimum solid/liquid ratio of 14.3. The consecutive adsorption/desorption cycles studies employing the Ca-alginate immobilized fungal beads demonstrated that the immobilized fungal biomass could be reused in five cycles without significant loss of adsorption efficiency and adsorbent weight.  相似文献

A fungal strain BAP14 isolated from marine sediments of coast in Xiamen city, was found to have the ability to degrade benzo[a]pyrene (BaP), and identified as Aspergillus sp. based on 18S rRNA gene sequence. Aspergillus sp. BAP14 was able to remove about 30 and 60% of BaP with initial concentration of 10 mg l−1 in 3 and 12 days of incubation, respectively. Addition of saccharides and low molecular weight polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons appeared to have effect on the degradation ability, in particularly the addition of lactose and naphthalene. Furthermore, we demonstrated that lipidic particles could be observed in the presence of benzo[a]pyrene based on the morphologic performance of Aspergillus sp. BAP14 through scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM), respectively.  相似文献

Two series of crosslinked starch polymers were tested for their ability to adsorb organic pollutants in aqueous solutions. The polymers were prepared by a crosslinking reaction of starch-enriched flour using epichlorohydrin as the crosslinking agent, without and in the presence of NH(4)OH. These polymers were used as sorbent materials for the removal of phenolic derivatives from wastewater. The influence of several parameters (kinetics, pH and polymer structure) on the sorption capacity was evaluated using the batch and the open column methods. Results of adsorption experiments showed that the starch-based materials exhibited high sorption capacities toward phenolic derivatives. The study of the kinetics of pollutant uptake revealed that the adsorbents presented a relatively fast rate of adsorption. The experimental data were examined using the Langmuir and Freundlich models and it was found that the Freundlich model appeared to fit the isotherm data better than the Langmuir model.  相似文献

Biochars converted from agricultural residuals can effectively remove ammonium from water. This work further improved the sorption ability of biochars to aqueous ammonium through alkali modification. Three modified biochars were prepared from agricultural residuals pre-treated with NaOH solution through low-temperature (300 °C) slow pyrolysis. The modified biochars effectively removed ammonium ions from water under various conditions with relatively fast adsorption kinetics (reached equilibrium within 10 h) and extremely high adsorption capacity (>200 mg/g). The Langmuir maximum capacity of the three modified biochars were between 313.9 and 518.9 mg/g, higher than many other ammonium adsorbents. Although the sorption of ammonium onto the modified biochar was affected by pH and temperature, it was high under all of the tested conditions. Findings from this work indicated that alkali-modified biochars can be used as an alternative adsorbent for the removal of ammonium from wastewater.  相似文献

Ergot alkaloids are mycotoxins that interact with several monoamine receptors, negatively affecting cardiovascular, nervous, reproductive, and immune systems of exposed humans and animals. Aspergillus fumigatus, a common airborne fungus and opportunistic human pathogen, can produce ergot alkaloids in broth culture. The objectives of this study were to determine if A. fumigatus accumulates ergot alkaloids in a respirable form in or on its conidia, to quantify ergot alkaloids associated with conidia produced on several different substrates, and to measure relevant physical properties of the conidia. We found at least four ergot alkaloids, fumigaclavine C, festuclavine, fumigaclavine A, and fumigaclavine B (in order of abundance), associated with conidia of A. fumigatus. Under environmentally relevant conditions, the total mass of ergot alkaloids often constituted >1% of the mass of the conidium. Ergot alkaloids were extracted from conidia produced on all media tested, and the greatest quantities were observed when the fungus was cultured on latex paint or cultured maize seedlings. The values for physical properties of conidia likely to affect their respirability (i.e., diameter, mass, and specific gravity) were significantly lower for A. fumigatus than for Aspergillus nidulans, Aspergillus niger, and Stachybotrys chartarum. The demonstration of relatively high concentrations of ergot alkaloids associated with conidia of A. fumigatus presents opportunities for investigations of potential contributions of the toxins to adverse health effects associated with the fungus and to aspects of the biology of the fungus that contribute to its success.  相似文献
