B chromosomes occur in several Neotropical fish species. Cytogenetic analysis of 27 specimens (15 females and 12 males) of Astyanax scabripinnis paranae from the Araquá river (a small headwater tributary of the Tietê river) shows that this population has 2n=50 chromosomes (4M+30 SM+4ST+12A), two chromosome pairs with NORs and conspicuous C-band positive blocks in the terminal position of the long arm of four chromosome pairs. In this population, eight females presented 2n=51 chromosomes and the extra chromosome was a large metacentric similar in size and morphology to the first chromosome pair in the karotype. This accessory chromosome is entirely heterochromatic in C-banded metaphases and shows a late replication pattern evidenced by BrdU incorporation. There was no significant correlation between the presence of B chromosomes and increased NOR activity at the P>0.05 level. Some aspects related to these B chromosomes are discussed. 相似文献

Oxygen consumption of Astyanax fasciatus (Characidae,Pisces): a comparison of epigean and hypogean populations 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Kathrin Hüppop 《Environmental Biology of Fishes》1986,17(4):299-308
Synopsis The standard and routine oxygen consumptions of Astyanax fasciatus from one surface population (Rio Teapao) and three cave populations (Chica, Micos and Pachon caves: sAnoptichthys jordani, the Micosfish and Anoptichthys antrobius) were determined individually over 24 hours by the use of a flow-through respirometer and polarographic oxygen electrodes. The phylogenetically oldest Pachon fish had a significantly lower standard metabolic rate (0.230 ± 0.036 mg O2 g-1 h-1) than the epigean Teapao fish, the hybrid Chica fish and the phylogenetically younger Micos fish (0.314 ± 0.081 mg O2g--1h-1, 0.284 ± 0.048 mg O2g-1h-1, 0.277 ± 0.063 mg O2g-1h-1). No significant differences could be determined among the latter three populations. A significant difference in routine metabolic rate existed only between the Pachon fish (0.309 ± 0.0.56 mg O2g-1h-1) and the Teapao fish (0.415 ± 0.071 mg O2g-1h-1). The Chica fish (0.356 ± 0.084 mg O2g-1h-1) and the Micos fish (0.355 ± 0.080 mg O2 g-1h-1) could not be separated from either the Teapao or the Pachon fish, but a decreasing trend from the surface population through the Chica and the Micos to the Pachon population was obvious. During a starvation period of 29 days the metabolic rate of epigean Teapao and hypogean Pachon fish decreased significantly by 32.5% and 34.8% (standard oxygen consumption rate) and 27.5% and 28.2% (routine oxygen consumption rate), respectively. Body mass loss during the starvation period was 16.3% for the Teapao fish and 9.5% for the Pachon fish. 相似文献

The reproduction of Astyanax scabripinnis captured bimonthly in the Cristais small stream (20o 00'03'S and 43o 56'46'W), in the Das Velhas River basin, was studied using gross anatomical and histological techniques. Standard length of females (56 ± 8 mm) was longer than males (49 ± 6 mm). The diameter of the nucleus of the primary spermatogonia was 7.5 ± 0.9 μ m and of the spermatozoon head 1.8 ± 0.4 μ m. For the females, the oogonia nuclei measured 10.2 ± 2.2 μ m and the vitellogenic oocyte nuclei measured 675.0 ± 66.7 μ m. The following stages of the reproductive cycle were established: developing, mature, partially spent/spawned and completely spent/spawned. Maximum number of males (61.3%) and females (58.2%) at the mature stage was observed during November/December. The gonadosomatic index of males and females was highest during the mature stage (2.4 ± 0.6; 7.5 ± 1.3, respectively) and decreased in subsequent stages. In females, the hepatosomatic index was highest during the developing stage (2.8 ± 0.3), and slightly decreased in the following stages. The highest stomach repletion index found for males was observed during the partially spent stage (2.0 ± 1.2), while for the females, this index varied discretely between the reproductive stages. The highest values of Fulton's condition factor were registered during the mature stage in both sexes (2.9 ± 0.4 for males; 3.0 ± 0.3 for females). The continuous reproductive period and the presence of partially spawned females during the entire sampling period indicated that the species has fractional spawning. 相似文献

We studied the reproductive biology of Astyanax lacustris in the southern Pantanal, Brazil. A total of 382 fish were analyzed from February 2009 to January 2011. The sex ratio differed significantly from 1:1, with a larger proportion of females (χ2 = 27.24; p < 0.001). Females achieve higher standard length than males (mean 72.30 mm and 56.51 mm, respectively), and possess negative allometric growth while males have positive allometric growth. Size at first maturation did not differ between sexes. The greatest reproductive activity occurred during the rainy season, when temperatures were highest (November to February). Total fecundity was significantly correlated with standard length (rs = 0.74; p = 0.01), and spawn type was total. Then, the life history traits of A. lacustris are adjusted to seasonal variation in the Southern Pantanal. 相似文献

Studies on sympatric species that belong to the same taxonomic group and have the same pattern of pollination and seed dispersion, but different patterns of geographical distribution and structural parameters may be worthwhile to understand the evolution of their compatibility system. We studied the floral biology, pollinators and reproductive systems of two tree species in Itatiaia, an area covered with montane rain forest. Pseudopiptadenia contorta is widespread in Brazil but is present at a low relative density at the study site, while Pseudopiptadenia leptostachya is restrictively distributed but presents one of its highest relative density values in Itatiaia. Both species have small flowers arranged in compact spicate raceme inflorescences that constitute the pollination unit. Pollinators are native stingless bees and European honeybees that collect pollen from their nectarless flowers. Although both species have similar floral characteristics and pollination system, their compatibility system differs. Fruit set after manual pollinations and observation of the pollen tube growth showed that P. leptostachya is self-compatible while P. contorta only set fruits after cross-pollinations, and is thus a self-incompatible species. However, fruit set did not differ between the species, indicating that structural parameters are not affected by the compatibility system. Thus, the difference between these two species in terms of reproductive system may be related to other factors such as patterns of geographical distribution. 相似文献

Aspects of the reproductive biology of Astyanax janeiroensis in the Ubatiba river in Maricá, RJ, Brazil were evaluated in order to ascertain whether the strategy adopted by the species is causally related to environmental variables. Specimens were collected on a monthly basis from October 1994 to September 1995, through electrofishing. The Sex ratio was not significantly different from the expected frequency of 1:1 (G = 1.29; p > 0.50); nonetheless, considering three standard length classes, significantly larger numbers of females were recorded for the higher SL class (G = 11.07; p < 0.01). Size at first maturation showed no significant differences between sexes. Length-weight ratio analyses showed negative allometry for males and isometry, for females. Length structure was significantly different between sexes, suggesting that females are larger than males (D = 0.027, p < 0.01). Reproductive specimens were recorded during nine months of the annual cycle. Seasonal variations of reproductive specimens belonging to two different standard length classes displayed an asynchronous behavior, with larger specimens having a longer reproductive period and smaller ones reproducing for fewer months during the annual cycle. High values of fecundity (F), varying from 3169 to 18714 oocytes, were recorded for fish of 9.1 and 10.2 cm lengths, respectively. The correlation between weight and number of oocytes/unit of weight was positive, indicating that larger specimens produced more eggs. 相似文献

Astyanax is well known as a model for developmental biology studies, particularly with regard to Mexico's cave populations. More than 130 species of Astyanax are already known, most of which live in South America. The occurrence of cryptic species and species complexes elucidated by chromosomal and genetic studies demonstrates that the relationship between morphology and molecular evolution is quite complex within this group. In this work, we demonstrate that morphology does not follow the path of vicariant processes observed in Astyanax fasciatus populations, which separated about three million years ago, although molecular data suggests its separation in two species. 相似文献

Reproductive biology of Patagonotothen ramsayi (Regan, 1913) (Pisces: Nototheniidae) around the Falkland Islands 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The reproductive biology of one of the most abundant notothenioids, Patagonotothen ramsayi, was investigated between February 2003 and November 2004 on the Falkland and Patagonian Shelves (Southwest Atlantic). Male and female P. ramsayi were mature at 27.6 and 24.8 cm L T, respectively. P. ramsayi is a total spawner, with a total fecundity ranging between 24,300 and 76,700 eggs. Spawning occurs on the shelf breaks between June and August with the peak in gonado-somatic indices in June. Analysis of length frequency distributions over the year and sex ratios of mature fish during the spawning season may indicate the presence of a nesting and nest guarding behaviour in male fish, similar to other rockcods. Features of its reproductive strategy, which enabled P. ramsayi to dominate the medium-sized demersal fishes on the Patagonian shelf are discussed and compared with those of other nototheniids and cottid sculpins from the Northern Hemisphere. 相似文献

The reproductive biology of Palythoa caribaeorum (Duchassaing & Michelotti 1860) and Protopalythoa variabilis (Duerden 1898) was studied through monthly samples from tagged colonies from June 1996 to June 1997, in Sao Sebastiao channel, S?o Paulo, Brazil (45 degrees 26'W, 23 degrees 50'S). The gametogenesis was similar to that of other zoanthids as shown by histological preparations. Oocyte diameters and maturation stages of testis vesicles were evaluated on squash preparations. Both species showed sequential protogynic hermaphroditism, with high frequency of fertile polyps (83% in P. variabilis and 72% in P. caribaeorun), high frequency of colonies in female sex condition (65.3% of P variabilis and 41.7% of P caribaeorum), and apparently continuous gametogenesis. In P. caribaribaeonrum, egg release was continuous and sperm release took place during half of the analyzed period. In P. variabilis, egg and sperm release occurred in April-May and February-March 1997, respectively. 相似文献

The fish genus Astyanax is widespread throughout the Neotropical region and is one of the most species-rich genera of the Characiformes. Cytogenetic studies of Astyanax have revealed marked intra- and interspecific diversity, with the identification of various species complexes. In this report, we describe the karyotypic structure of two sympatric species of Astyanax (Astyanax sp. and Astyanax aff. fasciatus) from the Middle Contas River basin in the northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia. Both species had 2n = 48 but differed in their karyotypic formulae. Small heterochromatic blocks and multiple nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) were identified in both species. Terminal CMA3+/DAPI− signals were observed in Astyanax sp. and A. aff. fasciatus, mostly coincident with NORs. These results show that chromosomal markers can be used to identify species in this fish complex. These markers can provide useful information for evolutionary studies and investigations on the mechanisms of chromosomal diversity in Astyanax. 相似文献

Synopsis Reproduction and parental care in the cockscomb prickleback, a Pacific coast intertidal fish, were examined using a combination of field and laboratory observations. The sexes were dimorphic, particularly during the breeding season, and males competed with other males for access to females. Males performed lateral and spasm displays. In the wild, the breeding season extended from January to March on cobblestone beaches. Assortative mating was positive with respect to body size. Females exhibited solitary parental care of the eggs. Each female coiled around, guarded and fanned a single egg mass that likely represented her total reproductive effort for the year. The number of eggs in the mass increased linearly with female size (weight or length). Males did not remain after spawning. Aquarium observations revealed that males spawn with more than one female given the opportunity. It is not known whether this occurs in the wild. Incubation to hatching took 29 days. Upon hatching, the young swam towards the surface. Parental care did not extend beyond hatching. 相似文献

Cytogenetic data are presented for Astyanax altiparanae populations from three Brazilian hydrographic systems. The chromosomal data obtained in A. altiparanae support the hypothesis of diploid number conservation. However, small differences in the karyotype formula and number of nucleolar organizer regions were observed in these populations. The apparent karyotypical similarity among the studied populations strongly suggests a close relationship among them with some chromosomal divergences due to gene flow restriction. 相似文献

A new species of Myxosporea, Henneguya chydadea, is described parasitizing the gills of Astyanax altiparanae collected from a lake on Rio das Pedras farm near Campinas, state of S?o Paulo, Brazil. Of the fish examined, 88.3% had gills parasitized by myxosporeans. The prevalence of the parasite ranged from 80% in the spring and fall, 93% in the summer and 100% in the winter. The parasite induced the formation of white, oval-shaped cysts measuring 40-64 microm x 64-80 microm which deformed the gill lamellae, compressed the capillaries, and caused retraction of the neighboring lamellae. The mature spores were elongated and had two identical, parallel elongate polar capsules. Each capsule contained a polar filament with 9-10 turns. There was no mucous envelope or iodinophilous vacuole. Morphometric differences between this parasite and other species of the genus Henneguya indicated, that the parasite observed in A. altiparanae is a new species. This is the first report of a myxosporeanparasitizing A. altiparanae. 相似文献

Sarcophagidae (Diptera) are potential vectors of several pathogens. They are also very important in forensic entomology, providing basic information on the circumstances of death. The objective of this study was to determine the synanthropic index of adult Sarcophagidae collected in Rio Claro, state of São Paulo, southeastern Brazil. Sampling occurred between September 2009 and August 2010. Traps baited with sardines, beef liver, or minced meat were set for five consecutive days per month in three distinct ecological areas representing urban, rural, and forest environments. A total of 440 specimens of sarcophagids were collected. The most abundant species was Peckia (Sarcodexia) lambens (Wiedemann), followed by Oxysarcodexia thornax (Walker), Peckia (Euboettcheria) collusor (Curran & Walley), Peckia (Euboettcheria) sp., and Peckia (Pattonella) intermutans (Walker). The only species with positive synanthropic index values were O. thornax and P. (S.) lambens, which demonstrated a greater preference for inhabited areas. Peckia (Euboettcheria) florencioi (Prado & Fonseca), P. (P.) intermutans, and Peckia (Euboettcheria) australis (Townsend) were only found in the forested area, which demonstrates their importance in forensic entomology because of their preference for a particular type of environment. The greatest number of sarcophagids was found in the forest environment; however, only the forest and rural areas were significantly different in Sarcophagidae abundance. 相似文献
