New(s) to the (Z-)ring

Cytokinesis in bacteria is mediated by a macromolecular machine known as the divisome, consisting of an assembly of FtsZ polymers around the cylindrical axis of the cell and the downstream regulators of division that are subsequently recruited to it. FtsZ polymerizes into filaments in a GTP-dependent manner, similarly to its eukaryotic structural homolog tubulin. The initial placement of the FtsZ polymerization site is tightly regulated by multiple mechanisms, as are the subsequent polymer reshaping and force generation that separate the two daughter cells from each other. New factors have been recently discovered that contribute to this regulation, notably affecting FtsZ polymer shaping, and modulating FtsZ polymerization in response to the metabolic or redox state of the cell.     

New Eustomias Species (Melanostomiidae) from New Caledonia

New species ofEdmundmasonia (Hyphomycetes)

A new species ofEdmundmasonia Subram,E. villosa is illustrated and described from decaying culms of bamboo collected in Cuba. Two others, which are Indian species, are briefly discussed.     

New taxa and combinations inAlchemilla (Rosaceae) (2)

47 names and combinations are published as new, chiefly from the elaboration ofAlchemilla byA. Plocek inL. Bertová (ed.), Flóra Slovenska 4/3, Bratislava (in press). The populations recognized as varieties and species new to science (12 and 29, respectively) come from the summits of W. Beskids (9 taxa), Belianske Tatry (12), other parts of Tatra (8), Fatra (5), elsewhere in the Central Carpathians in Slovakia (4), the Low Beskids in E. Slovakia (1), W. and E. Carpathians (1), N. Moravia (1). In addition, three epithets are published in a new combination, and the names for two new subseries and a new forma are proposed.

New records of anglerfishes (Antennariidae) from New Zealand

Abstract

Three species of anglerfish, Histrio histrio, Antennarius ocellatus, and A. nummifer, are newly recorded from northern New Zealand waters. A. tridens is redescribed, and variations in its colour pattern are illustrated.

New species of Halacaridae (Acari) from New Zealand

Abstract

Seven new taxa of marine mites (Halacaridae) are described from the marine littoral zone of northern and southern New Zealand: Agauopsis novaezelandiae, A. luxtoni, Halacarellus lubricus, Copidognathus lubricus, Simognathus glaber, S. glareus, and Rhombognathus novaezelandicus. A list of halacarid species known from New Zealand waters is added.     

New Tigridieae (Iridaceae) from Mexico

A comparison of three heretofore undescribed species with the previously known species inTigridia subgen.Hydrotaenia suggests a realignment of taxa within the various complexes inHydrotaenia. Three species,T. venusta, T. illecebrosa, andT. catarinensis, and two subspecies,T. hallbergii ssp.lloydii andT. ehrenbergii ssp.flaviglandifera, are described.Sessilanthera citrina is described and the new taxonomic combinationS. heliantha (Ravenna) Cruden is proposed.     

The New Zealand Hydroptilidae (Trichoptera)

Two new species of the genus Paroxyethira are described and figured. The females of the four other New Zealand Hydroptilidae are redescribed and illustrated, and a new key to the species is given. Taxonomic differences between the larvae and pupae are discussed.     

New taxa in Anisotes (Acanthaceae)

Diagnoses of three new species and three new subspecies of Anisotes are presented together with those of six subgeneric taxa.     

New synonyms in Plagiochila (Hepaticae)

Ten Plagiochila binomials are newly placed in synonymy: P. saettonii (= P. alternans), P. venustula (= P. disticha), P. variespinosa (= P. diversifolia), P. bakeri, P. barutana, P. buchii, P. effuse-ramea, P. subcontracta, P. truncatella (= P. patula), P. funkiana (= P. raddiana).     

New mesozoic Ithyceridae beetles (Coleoptera)

A new subfamily, Mongolocarinae subfam. nov. of the family Ithyceridae, from the Middle-Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous of Asia is described. It includes five genera with five species: Palaeocar gen. nov. (with P. princeps sp. nov.), Mongolocar gen. nov. (M. orcinus sp. nov.), Praecar gen. nov. (P. stolidus sp. nov.), Karacar gen. nov. (M. contractus sp. nov.), and Baissacar gen. nov. (B. passarius sp. nov.).     

New nomenclatural combinations inCentaureinae (Asteraceae)

New nomenclatural combinations are proposed for species of the following genera:Acosta Adans. (37),Colymbada Hill em. Holub (44),Cyanus Mill. (2) andJacea Mill. (3), altogether 86 new combinations.
