The paper presents integrated measurements of N fixation, net mineralisation, pasture yield and change in soil mineral N over a 12 month period for dairy pastures on a sandy loam soil in the South East of South Australia. The two adjacent pastures studied were an irrigated perennial white clover-ryegrass and an annual non-irrigated subterranean clover with mixed annual grasses. This produced the most comprehensive mineral N balance reported for grazed pastures, to the authors' knowledge, allowing calculation of gaseous and leaching losses of N (210 kg ha–1 in the irrigated and paddock and 81 kg ha–1 in the non irrigated paddock) primarily from urine patches. In both paddocks these losses were about three times the N yield in milk (61 and 28 kg N ha–1 respectively) and were replenished by biological N fixation (294 and 100 kg N ha–1). However, mineralisation of soil organic N, excretal N and pasture residues (687 and 438 kg N ha–1) was the major source of mineral N for cycling and losses. The results demonstrate the enormous impact of pasture management on N fluxes and reinforce the importance of livestock urine on the magnitude of N fluxes including gaseous and leaching losses.  相似文献

Little is known about management practices that can simultaneously improve soil and environmental quality and sustain crop yields. The effects of novel and traditional management practices that included a combination of tillage, crop rotation, and N fertilization on soil C and N, global warming potential (GWP), greenhouse gas intensity (GHGI), and malt barley (Hordeum vulgarie L.) yield and quality were examined under non-irrigated and irrigated cropping systems from 2008 to 2011 in eastern Montana and western North Dakota, USA. In loamy soil under non-irrigated condition in eastern Montana, novel and traditional management practices were no-till malt barley-pea (Pisum sativum L.) with 80 kg N ha-1 and conventional till malt barley-fallow with 80 kg N ha-1, respectively. In sandy loam soil under irrigated and non-irrigated conditions in western North Dakota, novel and traditional management practices included no-till malt barley-pea with 67 (non-irrigated) to 134 kg N ha-1 (irrigated) and conventional till malt barley with 67 (non-irrigated) to 134 kg N ha-1 (irrigated), respectively. Compared with the traditional management practice, soil organic C (SOC) and total N (STN) at 0–120 cm were 5% greater with the novel management practice under non-irrigated condition in eastern Montana and under irrigated condition in western North Dakota, but were not different under non-irrigated condition in western North Dakota. In both places under irrigated and non-irrigated conditions, total applied N rate, residual soil NO3-N content at 0–120 cm, global warming potential (GWP), and greenhouse gas intensity (GHGI) were 15 to 70% lower with the novel than the traditional management practice. Malt barley yield and quality were not different between the two practices in both places. Novel management practices, such as no-till malt barley-pea with reduced N rate, can simultaneously enhance soil and environmental quality, reduce N input, and sustain crop yield compared with traditional practices in the northern Great Plains, USA.  相似文献

We studied the fate of 15N-labelled fertilizer nitrogen in a sandy loam soil after harvest of winter oilseed rape (Brassica napus L. cv. Ceres) given 100 or 200 kg N ha-1 in spring, with or without irrigation. Our main objective was to quantify the temporal variations of the soil mineral N, the extractable soil organic N and soil microbial biomass N, and fertilizer derived N in these pools during autumn and winter. Nitrogen use efficiency of the oilseed rape crop varied from 47% of applied N in the 100N, irrigated treatment to 34% in the 200N, non-irrigated treatment. However, only in the latter treatment did we find significantly higher fertilizer derived soil mineral N than in the three other treatments which all had low soil mineral N contents at the first sampling after harvest (8 days after stubble tillage). Between 31% and 42% of the applied N could not be accounted for in the harvested plants or 0-15 cm soil layer at this first sampling. Over the following autumn and winter none of the remaining fertilizer derived soil N was lost from the 0–5 cm depth, but from the 5–15 cm depth a marked proportion of N derived from fertilizer was lost, probably by leaching. Negligible amounts of fertilizer derived extractable soil organic and mineral N (<1 kg N ha-1, 0-15 cm) were found in all treatments after the first sampling.Soil microbial biomass N was not significantly affected by treatments and showed only small temporal variability (±11% of the mean 76 kg N ha-1, 0- 15 cm depth). Surprisingly, the average amount of soil microbial biomass N derived from fertilizer was significantly affected by the treatments, with the extremes being 5.5 and 3.1 kg N ha-1 in the 200N, non-irrigated and 100N, irrigated treatments, respectively. Also, the estimated exponential decay rate of microbial biomass N derived from fertilizer, differed greatly (2 fold) between these two treatments, indicating highly different microbial turnover rates in spite of the similar total microbial biomass N values. In studies utilising 15N labelling to estimate turnover rates of different soil organic matter pools this finding is of great importance, because it may question the assumption that turnover rates are not affected by the insertion of the label.  相似文献

In a field experiment performed in microplots, winter wheat was fertilized at two different total N dressings (135 and 180 kg ha–1) split-applied as Na15NO3 in three equal applications at tillering, stem elongation, and flag leaf.No significant differences were found in the percentage recovery values for the entire plant at the three split applications between the two N dressings. The total percentage recovery of fertilizer N by the plant was high and practically equal at both fertilization levels (76.65% and 75.84% for 135 and 180 kg N ha–1, respectively); crop yields were also similar. In contrast, gaseous losses calculated after drawing up the balance sheet were, in absolute values, higher for the tillering and stem elongation split applications when using the 180 kg N ha–1 dressing (7.67 and 4.84 kg N ha–1, respectively) than for the 135 kg N ha–1 dressing (3.45 and 1.26 kg N ha–1, respectively). They were found to be zero at flag leaf at both fertilization levels. The amount of applied fertilizer N did not influence the amount of N taken up from the soil which was about 143 kg ha–1.  相似文献

Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is able to fix 20–60 kg N ha–1 under tropical environments in Brazil, but these amounts are inadequate to meet the N requirement for economically attractive seed yields. When the plant is supplemented with N fertilizer, N2 fixation by Rhizobium can be suppressed even at low rates of N. Using the 15N enriched method, two field experiments were conducted to compare the effect of foliar and soil applications of N-urea on N2 fixation traits and seed yield. All treatments received a similar fertilization including 10 kg N ha–1 at sowing. Increasing rates of N (10, 30 and 50 kg N ha–1) were applied for both methods. Foliar application significantly enhanced nodulation, N2 fixation (acetylene reduction activity) and yield at low N level (10 kg N ha–1). Foliar nitrogen was less suppressive to nodulation, even at higher N levels, than soil N treatments. In the site where established Rhizobium was in low numbers, inoculation contributed substantially to increased N2 fixation traits and yield. Both foliar and soil methods inhibited nodulation at high N rates and did not significantly increase bean yield, when comparing low (10 kg N ha–1) and high (50 kg N ha–1) rates applied after emergence. In both experiments, up to 30 kg N ha–1 of biologically fixed N2 were obtained when low rates of N were applied onto the leaves.  相似文献

Spatial variations in soil processes regulating mineral N losses to streams were studied in a small watershed near Toronto, Ontario. Annual net N mineralization in the 0–8 cm soil was measured in adjacent upland and riparian forest stands using in situ soil incubations from April 1985 to 1987. Mean annual rates of soil N mineralization and nitrification were higher in a maple soil (93.8 and 87.0 kg.ha–1) than in a pine soil (23.3 and 8.2 kg.ha–1 ). Very low mean rates of mineralization (3.3 kg.ha–1) and nitrification (3.4 kg.ha–1) were found in a riparian hemlock stand. Average NO3-N concentrations in soil solutions were 0.3–1.0 mg.L–1 in the maple stand and >0.06mg.L–1 in the pine stand. Concentrations of NO3–N in shallow ground water and stream water were 3–4× greater in a maple subwatershed than in a pine subwatershed. Rapid N uptake by vegetation was an important mechanism reducing solution losses of NO3–N in the maple stand. Low rates of nitrification were mainly responsible for negligible NO3–N solution losses in the pine stand.  相似文献

We compared symbiotic N2 fixation by winter forage legumes (clovers, medics and vetches) using the 15N natural abundance technique in three experiments. Vetches (Vicia spp.) were the most productive legumes, and woollypod vetch fixed (shoot+root) up to 265 kg N ha–1 (mean 227 kg N ha–1) during a 4–5 months period over winter and early spring. Balansa and Berseem clovers, and Gama medic were highly productive in the first experiment, but fixed significantly less N than woollypod vetch in the second experiment. A 6-year study (1997–2003) compared cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) systems with and without vetch, or with faba beans (Vicia faba L.) to assess the effects of these crops on cotton production. Woollypod vetch was grown either between annual cotton crops, or between wheat (Triticum aestivumL.) and cotton crops. Vetch added 230 kg N ha–1 (174 kg fixed N ha–1) to the soil when incorporated as a green manure. Faba bean shoot residues and nodulated roots contributed 108 kg fixed N ha–1 to the soil, following the removal of 80 kg N ha–1 in the harvested seed (meaned over three crops). Lablab (Lablab purpureus L. – summer-growing and irrigated) added 277 kg N ha–1 (244 kg fixed N ha–1) before incorporation as a green manure in the first year of the experiment. The economic optimum N fertiliser rate for each cropping system was determined every second year when all systems were sown to cotton. Cotton following cotton required 105 kg fertiliser N ha–1, but only 40 kg N ha–1 when vetch was grown between each cotton crop. Cotton following wheat required 83 kg fertiliser N ha–1 but no N fertiliser was needed when vetch was grown after wheat (the highest yielding system). Cotton following faba beans also required no N fertiliser. The vetch-based systems became more N fertile over the course of the experiment and produced greater lint yields than the comparative non-legume systems, and required less N fertiliser. While no cash flow was derived from growing vetch, economic benefits accrued from enhanced cotton yields, reduced N fertiliser requirements and improved soil fertility. These findings help explain the rotational benefits of vetches observed in other regions of the world.  相似文献

Crop performance, nitrogen and water use in flooded and aerobic rice   总被引:11,自引:0,他引:11
Irrigated aerobic rice is a new system being developed for lowland areas with water shortage and for favorable upland areas with access to supplementary irrigation. It entails the cultivation of nutrient-responsive cultivars in nonsaturated soil with sufficient external inputs to reach yields of 70–80% of high-input flooded rice. To obtain insights into crop performance, water use, and N use of aerobic rice, a field experiment was conducted in the dry seasons of 2002 and 2003 in the Philippines. Cultivar Apo was grown under flooded and aerobic conditions at 0 and at 150 kg fertilizer N ha–1. The aerobic fields were flush irrigated when the soil water potential at 15-cm depth reached –30 kPa. A 15N isotope study was carried out in microplots within the 150-N plots to determine the fate of applied N. The yield under aerobic conditions with 150 kg N ha–1 was 6.3 t ha–1 in 2002 and 4.2 t ha–1 in 2003, and the irrigation water input was 778 mm in 2002 and 826 mm in 2003. Compared with flooded conditions, the yield was 15 and 39% lower, and the irrigation water use 36 and 41% lower in aerobic plots in 2002 and 2003, respectively. N content at 150 kg N ha–1 in leaves and total plant was nearly the same for aerobic and flooded conditions, indicating that crop growth under aerobic conditions was limited by water deficit and not by N deficit. Under aerobic conditions, average fertilizer N recovery was 22% in both the main field and the microplot, whereas under flooded conditions, it was 49% in the main field and 36% in the microplot. Under both flooded and aerobic conditions, the fraction of 15N that was determined in the soil after the growing season was 23%. Since nitrate contents in leachate water were negligible, we hypothesized that the N unaccounted for were gaseous losses. The N unaccounted for was higher under aerobic conditions than under flooded conditions. For aerobic rice, trials are suggested for optimizing dose and timing of N fertilizer. Also further improvements in water regime should be made to reduce crop water stress.  相似文献

Mustard is cultivated throughout the world for oil in its seeds. Itrequires high nitrogen input for improved productivity but the nitrogen appliedto the soil is not fully utilised by the crops due to various constraints. Theobjective of the reported research was to determine if foliar- appliedgibberellic acid (GA3) could enhance crop growth and increasenitrogen-use efficiency. A field experiment was conducted during 1997–98in which GA3 (10–5 M) was applied tofoliage at 40d after sowing (pre-flowering) to mustard grown with 0, 40(sub-optimal), 80 (optimal) and 120 (supra-optimal) kgN ha–1. Foliar spray of GA3 was effectiveonly when plants received sufficient N (80 kgN ha–1). GA3 sprays significantly enhancedplant dry mass, leaf area, carbon dioxide exchange rate, plant growth rate, cropgrowth rate and relative growth rate. GA3 -treated plants showedenhanced nitrogen-use efficiency through redistribution of N to seeds.  相似文献

The effects of planted fallows of Sesbania sesban (L.) Merr. and Calliandra calothyrsus (Meissner) on soil inorganic nitrogen dynamics and two subsequent maize crops were evaluated under field conditions in the highlands of eastern Kenya. Continuous unfertilised maize, maize/bean rotation and natural regrowth of vegetation (weed fallow) were used as control treatments. The proportion of symbiotic N2-fixation was estimated by measuring both leaf 15N enrichment and whole-plant 15N enrichment by the 15N dilution technique for Sesbania and Calliandra, using Eucalyptus saligna (Sm.) and Grevillea robusta (A. Cunn) as reference species. Above- and below-ground biomass and N contents were examined in Sesbania, Calliandra, Eucalyptus and Grevillea 22 months after planting. Both the content of inorganic N in the topsoil and the quantity of N mineralised during rainy seasons were higher after the Sesbania fallows than after the other treatments. Compared to the continuous unfertilised maize treatment, both residual crop yields were significantly higher when mineral N (one application of 60 kg N ha–1) was added. Furthermore, the second crop following the Sesbania fallow was significantly higher than the continuous maize crop. The above-ground biomass of the trees at final harvest were 31.5, 24.5, 32.5 and 43.5 Mg ha–1 for the Sesbania, Calliandra, Grevillea and Eucalyptus, respectively. For the total below-ground biomass the values for these same tree species were 11.1, 15.5, 17.7, and 19.1 Mg ha–1, respectively, of which coarse roots (>2 mm), including tap roots, amounted to 70–90%. About 70–90% of the N in Sesbania, and 50–70% in Calliandra, was derived from N2-fixation. Estimates based on leaf 15N enrichment and whole-plant 15N enrichment were strongly correlated. The N added by N2-fixation amounted to 280–360 kg N ha–1 for Sesbania and 120–170 kg N ha–1 for Calliandra, resulting in a positive N balance after two maize cropping seasons of 170–250 kg N ha–1 and 90–140 kg N ha–1, for Sesbania and Calliandra, respectively. All the other treatments gave negative N balances after two cropping seasons. We conclude that Sesbania sesban is a tree species well suited for short duration fallows due to its fast growth, high nutrient content, high litter quality and its ability to fix large amounts of N2 from the atmosphere.  相似文献

Effects of rate of nitrogen (N) fertilizer and stocking rate on production and N2 fixation by white clover (Trifolium repens L.) grown with perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) were determined over 5 years in farmlets near Hamilton, New Zealand. Three farmlets carried 3.3 dairy cows ha–1 and received urea at 0, 200 or 400 kg N ha–1 yr–1 in 8–10 split applications. A fourth farmlet received 400 kg N ha–1 yr–1 and had 4.4 cows ha–1.There was large variation in annual clover production and total N2 fixation, which in the 0 N treatment ranged from 9 to 20% clover content in pasture and from 79 to 212 kg N fixed ha–1 yr–1. Despite this variation, total pasture production in the 0 N treatment remained at 75–85% of that in the 400 N treatments in all years, due in part to the moderating effect of carry-over of fixed N between years.Fertilizer N application decreased the average proportion of clover N derived from N2 fixation (PN; estimated by 15N dilution) from 77% in the 0 N treatment to 43–48% in the 400 N treatments. The corresponding average total N2 fixation decreased from 154 kg N ha–1 yr–1 to 39–53 kg N ha–1 yr–1. This includes N2 fixation in clover tissue below grazing height estimated at 70% of N2 fixation in above grazing height tissue, based on associated measurements, and confirmed by field N balance calculations. Effects of N fertilizer on clover growth and N2 fixation were greatest in spring and summer. In autumn, the 200 N treatment grew more clover than the 0 N treatment and N2 fixation was the same. This was attributed to more severe grazing during summer in the 0 N treatment, resulting in higher surface soil temperatures and a deleterious effect on clover stolons. In the 400 N treatments, a 33% increase in cow stocking rate tended to decrease PN from 48 to 43% due to more N cycling in excreta, but resulted in up to 2-fold more clover dry matter and N2 fixation because lower pasture mass reduced grass competition, particularly during spring.  相似文献

Within a long-term research project studying the biogeochemical budget of an oak-beech forest ecosystem in the eastern part of the Netherlands, the nitrogen transformations and solute fluxes were determined in order to trace the fate of atmospherically deposited NH4 + and to determine the contribution of nitrogen transformations to soil acidification. The oak-beech forest studied received an annual input of nitrogen via throughfall and stemflow of 45 kg N ha–1 yr–1, mainly as NH4 +, whereas 8 kg N ha–1 yr–1 was taken up by the canopy. Due to the specific hydrological regime resulting in periodically occurring high groundwater levels, denitrification was found to be the dominant output flux (35 kg N ha–1 yr–1). N20 emmission rate measurements indicated that 57% of this gaseous nitrogen loss (20 kg N ha–1 yr–1) was as N2O. The forest lost an annual amount of 11 kg N ha–1 yr–1 via streamwater output, mainly as N03 .Despite the acid conditions, high nitrification rates were measured. Nitrification occurred mainly in the litter layer and in the organic rich part of the mineral soil and was found to be closely correlated with soil temperature. The large amount of NH4 + deposited on the forest floor via atmospheric deposition and produced by mineralization was to a large extent nitrified in the litter layer. Almost no NH4 + reached the subsurface soil horizons. The N03 was retained, taken up or transformed mainly in the mineral soil. A small amount of N03 (9 kg N ha–1 yr–1) was removed from the system in streamwater output. A relatively small amount of nitrogen was measured in the soil water as Dissolved Organic Nitrogen. On the basis of these data the proton budget of the system was calculated using two different approaches. In both cases net proton production rates were high in the vegetation and in the litter layer of the forest ecosystem. Nitrogen transformations induced a net proton production rate of 2.4 kmol ha–1 yr–1 in the soil compartment.  相似文献

A mixed pasture comprising of buffel grass and a legume siratro was studied under field condition for a two-year period to know the fodder yield increase, nitrogen fixation and nitrogen balance with and without the inoculation of VA mycorrhiza to grass and Rhizobium to legume component.15N dilution technique was followed using labelled ammonium sulphate. The data showed that during the first year of the above study combined inoculation of VA mycorrhiza and Rhizobium to grass and legume respectively significantly increased the total dry matter (DM) (23,900 kg ha–1 yr–1) and total N content (308 kg ha–1 yr–1) of the mixed pasture over the uninoculated mixture. However, the above increase due to combined inoculation was maximum during second year with respect to DM yield (28,200 kg ha–1 yr–1), but the total N harvested through grass-legume mixture was comparatively lower than the first year (297 kg ha–1 yr–1). The amount of biologically fixed N was highest in the first year (79 kg ha–1 yr–1) and showed a very drastic reduction at the end of second year (39 kg ha–1 yr–1). A positive nitrogen balance was observed in the grass-legume mixture irrespective of inoculation of VA mycorrhiza and/or Rhizobium.  相似文献

In a field experiment using microplots, a flooded Crowley silt loam (Typic Albaqualfs) rice soil was fertilized with 15N labelled (60–74 atom %) urea and KNO3. Emission of N2, N2O and CH4 and accumulation in soil were measured for 21 d after fertilizer application.Emission of 15N2-N measured from the urea and KNO3 treated plots ranged from <15 to 570 and from 330 to 3,420 g ha–1 d–1, respectively. Entrapped 15N2-N in the urea treated microplots was significantly lower (<15 g to 2.1 kg ha–1) on all sampling dates compared to the 15N2-N gas accumulation in the KNO3 treated plots (6.4 to 31.5 kg ha–1). Emissions of N2O-N were low and did not exceed 4 g ha–1 d–1. Fluxes of CH4 from the fertilizer and control plots were low and never exceeded 33 g ha–1 d–1. Maximum accumulation of CH4 in the flooded soil measured 460 and 195 g ha–1 for the urea and KNO3 treatments, respectively.  相似文献

During 4 years continuous measurements of N-trace gas exchange were carried out at the forest floor-atmosphere interface at the Höglwald Forest that is highly affected by atmospheric N-deposition. The measurements included spruce control, spruce limed and beech sites. Based on these field measurements and on intensive laboratory measurements of N2-emissions from the soils of the beech and spruce control sites, a total balance of N-gas emissions was calculated. NO2-deposition was in a range of –1.6 –2.9 kg N ha–1 yr–1 and no huge differences between the different sites could be demonstrated. In contrast to NO2-deposition, NO- and N2O-emissions showed a huge variability among the different sites. NO emissions were highest at the spruce control site (6.4–9.1 kg N ha–1 yr–1), lowest at the beech site (2.3–3.5 kg N ha–1 yr–1) and intermediate at the limed spruce site (3.4–5.4 kg N ha–1 yr–1). With regard to N2O-emissions, the following ranking between the sites was found: beech (1.6–6.6 kg N ha–1 yr–1) >> spruce limed (0.7–4.0 kg N ha–1 yr–1) > spruce control (0.4–3.1 kg N ha–1 yr–1). Average N-trace gas emissions (NO, NO2, N2O) for the years 1994–1997 were 6.8 kg N ha–1 yr–1 at the spruce control site, 3.6 kg N ha–1 yr–1 at the limed spruce site and 4.5 kg N ha–1 yr–1 at the beech site. Considering N2-losses, which were significantly higher at the beech (12.4 kg N ha–1 yr–1) than at the spruce control site (7.2 kg N ha–1 yr–1), the magnitude of total gaseous N losses, i.e. N2-N + NO-N + NO2-N + N2O-N, could be calculated for the first time for a forest ecosystem. Total gaseous N-losses were 14.0 kg N ha–1 yr–1 at the spruce control site and 15.5 kg N ha–1 yr–1 at the beech site, respectively. In view of the huge interannual variability of N-trace gas fluxes and the pronounced site differences in N-gas emissions it is concluded that more research is needed in order to fully understand patterns of microbial N-cycling and N-gas production/emission in forest ecosystems and mechanisms of reactions of forest ecosystems to the ecological stress factor of atmospheric N-input.  相似文献

Thirty one selected bean lines were evaluated in the field for ability to support N2 fixation when intercropped with maize which received 0, 30 and 60 kg N ha–1 as ammonium sulphate. The amount of fixed N2 was estimated using the natural variation of 15N and wheat as the standard non-fixing crop. Nitrogen as low as 15 kg N ha–1 at sowing suppressed nodule weight and activity (acetylene reduction activity) but not nodule number, suggesting that the main effect of mineral N was on nodule development and function. 15N data revealed a high potential of the bean genotypes to fix N2, with the most promising ones averaging between 50–60% of seed N coming from fixation. Bean lines CNF-480, Puebla-152, Mexico-309, Negro Argel, CNF-178, Venezuela-350 and WBR22-3, WBR22-50 and WBR22-55 were ranked as good fixers.  相似文献

Flooding can be an important control of nitrogen (N) biogeochemistry in wetland ecosystems. In North American prairie marshes, spring flooding is a dominant feature of the physical environment that increases emergent plant production and could influence N cycling. I investigated how spring flooding affects N availability and plant N utilization in whitetop (Scolochloa festucacea) marshes in Manitoba, Canada by comparing experimentally spring-flooded marsh inside an impoundment with adjacent nonflooded marsh. The spring-flooded marsh had net N mineralization rates up to 4 times greater than nonflooded marsh. Total growing season net N mineralization was 124 kg N ha–1 in the spring-flooded marsh compared with 62 kg N ha–1 in the nonflooded marsh. Summer water level drawdown in the spring-flooded marsh decreased net N mineralization rates. Net nitrification rates increased in the nonflooded marsh following a lowering of the water table during mid summer. Growing season net nitrification was 33 kg N ha–1 in the nonflooded marsh but < 1 kg N ha–1 in the spring-flooded marsh. Added NO3 –1 induced nitrate reductase (NRA) activity in whitetop grown in pot culture. Field-collected plants showed higher NRA in the nonflooded marsh. Nitrate comprised 40% of total plant N uptake in the nonflooded marsh but <1% of total N uptake in the spring-flooded marsh. Higher plant N demand caused by higher whitetop production in the spring-flooded marsh approximately balanced greater net N mineralization. A close association between the presence of spring flooding and net N mineralization and net nitrification rates indicated that modifications to prairie marshes that change the pattern of spring inundation will lead to rapid and significant changes in marsh N cycling patterns.  相似文献

Erratic rainfall in rainfed lowlands and inadequate water supply in irrigated lowlands can results in alternate soil drying and flooding during a rice (Oryza sativa L.) cropping period. Effects of alternate soil drying and flooding on N loss by nitrification-denitrification have been inconsistent in previous field research. To determine the effects of water deficit and urea timing on soil NO3 and NH4, floodwater NO3, and N loss from added 15N-labeled urea, a field experiment was conducted for 2 yr on an Andaqueptic Haplaquoll in the Philippines. Water regimes were continuously flooded, not irrigated from 15 to 35 d after transplanting (DT), or not irrigated from 41 to 63 DT. The nitrogen treatments in factorial combination with water regimes were no applied N and 80 kg urea-N ha–1, either applied half basally and half at 37 DT or half at 11 DT and half at 65 DT. Water deficit at 15 to 35 DT and 41 to 63 DT, compared with continuous soil flooding, significantly reduced extractable NH4 in the top 30-cm soil layer and resulted in significant but small (<1.0 kg N ha–1) soil NO3 accumulations. Soil NO3, which accumulated during the water deficit, rapidly disappeared after reflooding. Water deficit at 15 to 35 DT, unlike that at 41 to 63 DT, increased the gaseous loss of added urea N as determined from unrecovered 15N in 15N balances. The results indicate that application of urea to young rice in saturated or flooded soil results in large, rapid losses of N (mean = 35% of applied N), presumably by NH3 volatilization. Subsequent soil drying and flooding during the vegetative growth phase can result in additional N loss (mean = 14% of applied N), presumably by nitrification-denitrification. This additional N loss due to soil drying and flooding decreases with increasing crop age, apparently because of increased competition by rice with soil microorganisms for NH4 and NO3.  相似文献

We analyzed long-term organic and inorganic nitrogen inputs and outputs in precipitation and streamwater in six watersheds at the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest in the central Cascade Mountains of Oregon. Total bulk N deposition, averaging 1.6 to 2.0 kg N ha–1 yr–1, is low compared to other sites in the United States and little influenced by anthropogenic N sources. Streamwater N export is also low, averaging <1 kg ha–1 yr–1. DON is the predominant form of N exported from all watersheds, followed by PON, NH4-N, and NO3-N. Total annual stream discharge was a positive predictor of annual DON output in all six watersheds, suggesting that DON export is related to regional precipitation. In contrast, annual discharge was a positive predictor of annual NO3-N output in one watershed, annual NH4-N output in three watersheds, and annual PON output in three watersheds. Of the four forms of N, only DON had consistent seasonal concentration patterns in all watersheds. Peak streamwater DON concentrations occurred in November-December after the onset of fall rains but before the peak in the hydrograph, probably due to flushing of products of decomposition that had built up during the dry summer. Multiple biotic controls on the more labile nitrate and ammonium concentrations in streams may obscure temporal DIN flux patterns from the terrestrial environment. Results from this study underscore the value of using several watersheds from a single climatic zone to make inferences about controls on stream N chemistry; analysis of a single watershed may preclude identification of geographically extensive mechanisms controlling N dynamics.  相似文献

Inputs and losses of nitrogen (N) were determined in dairy cow farmlets receiving 0, 225 or 360 kg N ha-1 (in split applications as urea) in the first year of a large grazing experiment near Hamilton, New Zealand. Cows grazed perennial ryegrass/white clover pastures all year round on a free-draining soil. N2 fixation was estimated (using 15N dilution) to be 212, 165 and 74 kg N ha-1 yr-1 in the 0, 225 and 360 N treatments, respectively. The intermediate N rate had little effect on clover growth during spring but favoured more total pasture cover in summer and autumn, thereby reducing overgrazing and resulting in 140% more clover growth during the latter period.Removal of N in milk was 76,89 and 92 kg N ha-1 in the 0, 225 and 360 N treatments, respectively. Denitrification losses were low (7–14 kg N ha-1 yr-1), increased with N application, and occurred predominantly during winter. Ammonia volatilization was estimated by micrometeorological mass balance at 15, 45 and 63 kg N ha-1 yr-1 in the 0, 225 and 360 N treatments, respectively. Most of the increase in ammonia loss was attributed to direct loss after application of the urea fertilizer.Leaching of nitrate was estimated (using ceramic cup samplers at 1 m soil depth, in conjunction with lysimeters) to be 13, 18 and 31 kg N ha-1 yr-1 in a year of relatively low rainfall (990 mm yr-1) and drainage (170–210 mm yr-1). Drainage was lower in the N fertilized treatments and this was attributed to enhanced evapotranspiration associated with increased grass growth.Nitrate-N concentrations in leachates increased gradually over time to 30 mg L-1 in the 360 N treatment whereas there was little temporal variation evident in the 0 (mean 6.4 mg L-1) and 225 (mean 10.1 mg L-1) N treatments. Thus, the 360 N treatment had a major effect by greatly reducing N2 fixation and increasing N losses, whereas the 225 N treatment had little effect on N2 fixation or on nitrate leaching. However, these results refer to the first year of the experiment and further measurements over time will determine the longer-term effects of these treatments on N inputs, transformations and losses.  相似文献
