Inflorescence and floral development of two tropical legume trees, Dahlstedtia pinnata and Dahlstedtia pentaphylla, occurring in the Atlantic Forest of south-eastern and southern Brazil, were investigated and compared with other papilionoids. Few studies have been made of floral development in tribe Millettieae, and this paper is intended to fill that gap in our knowledge. Dahlstedtia species have an unusual inflorescence type among legumes, the pseudoraceme, which comprises axillary units of three or more flowers, each with a subtending bract. Each flower exhibits a pair of opposite bracteoles. The order of flower initiation is acropetal; inception of the floral organs is as follows: sepals (5), petals (5), carpel (1) plus outer stamens (5) and finally inner stamens (5). Organ initiation in sepal, petal and inner stamen whorls is unidirectional; the carpel cleft is adaxial. The vexillum originates from a tubular-shaped primordium in mid-development and is larger than other petals at maturity, covering the keels. The filament tube develops later after initiation of inner-stamen primordia. Floral development in Dahlstedtia is almost always similar to other papilionoids, especially species of Phaseoleae and Sophoreae. But one important difference is the precocious ovule initiation (open carpel with ovules) in Dahlstedtia, the third citation of this phenomenon for papilionoids. No suppression, organ loss or anomalies occur in the order of primordia initiation or structure. Infra-generic differences in the first stages of ontogeny are rare; however, different species of Dahlstedtia are distinguished by the differing distribution pattern of secretory cavities in the flower.  相似文献

Inflorescence and floral organogenesis and development of the bushy perennial legume Astragalus lagopoides of the section Hymenostegis were studied by means of epi-illumination light microscopy. Based on our observations, the primordia of lanceolate racemose inflorescences are born in the axils of leaves. Each inflorescence apex initiates acropetally bracts and floral apices for some time and then eventually ceases meristematic activity and forms an oblong-shaped terminal structure. The formation of such atypical terminal protrusion on the inflorescence meristem is judged to be a diagnostic feature for well-organized cessation of meristem morphogenesis. Pentamerous perfect flowers of the plant show strong zygomorphy and marked overlap in time of initiation among different organ primordia. Unexpectedly, sepal initiation is bidirectional starting from the lateral sides of the floral apex. Other significant developmental feature includes the existence of two types of common primordia, which are formed successively. From the primary common primordia there are produced antesepalous stamens and secondary common primordia. In comparison, the five secondary common primordia subdivide into a petal and an antepetalous stamen primordia. Initiation of two different types of common primordia is possibly the result of rising overlap in time of initiation of organs and demonstrates an advanced developmental style in the genus Astragalus.  相似文献

Floral organogenesis and development of the bushy perennial legume Astragalus caspicus were studied using epi-illumination light microscopy techniques. Based on our observations, flowers are in axillary two-flowered racemes, initiate all 21 floral organs and show precocious appearance of zygomorphy. The order of floral organ initiation is unidirectional in whorls starting from the abaxial position of the flower with a high degree of overlap. Another important ontogenetic feature is the existence of two successive common primordial stages categorized as primary and secondary. The primary common primordia produce antesepalous stamens and secondary common primordia. In contrast, the five secondary common primordia subdivide into a petal and an antepetalous stamen primordia. Our findings on floral ontogeny of A. caspicus provide new evidence for the complex and variable floral initiation and development in legumes. The floral apex with strong overlapping initiation of different organs illustrates a paradox in which different capabilities must be presumed to exist simultaneously. Moreover, two extraordinary types of common primordia represent possibly an advanced evolutionary trend where time intervals between the initiations of different floral organs in Papilionoideae are shortened.  相似文献

A survey of foliar flavonoids in the swartzioid legume genus Cordyla s.l. revealed that three species, C. haraka, C. pinnata and C. richardii, were rich in flavonol pentaglycosides. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic and chemical methods as the 3-O-alpha-l-rhamnopyranosyl(1-->3)-alpha-l-rhamnopyranosyl(1-->2)[alpha-l-rhamnopyranosyl(1-->6)]-beta-d-galactopyranoside-7-O-alpha-l-rhamnopyranosides of quercetin and kaempferol (cordylasins A and B, respectively). These compounds were not found in the remaining species, C. africana, C. densiflora, C. madagascariensis (two subspecies) and C. somalensis, which exhibited different profiles of flavonoid glycosides. The distribution of flavonol pentaglycosides in Cordyla s.l. does not support a recent proposal to place both C. haraka and C. madagascariensis in the genus Dupuya [Kirkbride, J.H., 2005. Dupuya, a new genus of Malagasy legumes (Fabaceae). Novon 15, 305-314]. The generic relationship between Cordyla s.l. and Mildbraediodendron is also reassessed on the basis of chemical characters, as the O-linked tetrasaccharide that characterises cordylasins A and B is the same as that found in mildbraedin (kaempferol 3-O-alpha-l-rhamnopyranosyl(1-->3)-alpha-l-rhamnopyranosyl(1-->2)[alpha-l-rhamnopyranosyl(1-->6)]-beta-d-galactopyranoside), the main foliar flavonoid of Mildbraediodendron excelsum. Mildbraedin itself was found to be a minor constituent of leaflet extracts of C. haraka, C. pinnata and C. richardii, and a major constituent of C. somalensis.  相似文献

The non-protein amino acids of the legume genus Bocoa (Papilionoideae; Swartzieae) were surveyed by LC-MS and GC-MS using extracts of herbarium leaf fragments. Bocoa alterna (Benth.) R.S. Cowan, B. decipiens R.S. Cowan, B. limae R.S. Cowan, B. mollis (Benth.) R.S. Cowan and B. racemulosa (Huber) R.S. Cowan were found to contain 2,4-methanoproline, 2,4-methanoglutamic acid, cis-1-amino-3-hydroxymethyl-cyclobutane-1-carboxylic acid and delta-N-acetylornithine. The former three compounds have otherwise only been reported from Ateleia and Cyathostegia and, therefore, the results support the relationship with these genera found in recent phylogenetic analysis of DNA sequence data. In contrast, Bocoa viridiflora (Ducke) R.S. Cowan was found to contain trans-5-hydroxypipecolic acid and trans-4-cis-5-dihydroxypipecolic acid, while trans-4-hydroxypipecolic acid and an unidentified compound were the major non-protein amino acids in B. prouacensis Aublet. The non-protein amino acid chemistry of these two species was therefore more similar to a representative of Swartzia examined, S. macrosema Harms, which also contained mono- and dihydroxypipecolic acids. The monotypic Candolleodendron brachystachyum (DC.) R.S. Cowan, considered related to Bocoa, accumulated trans-5-hydroxypipecolic acid. LC-MS data on flavonoids obtained from four of the extracts revealed the presence of flavone C-glycosides in B. viridiflora and B. prouacensis but only flavonoid O-glycosides in B. alterna and B. mollis. The chemical division of Bocoa concurs with studies of other character types and recent molecular phylogenies.  相似文献

We isolated 33 nodule bacteria from the legume Alhagi sparsifolia growing in the desert of northwest China. They fell into three groups by restriction analysis of their rrs (small subunit ribosomal RNA) genes, and these, together with dnaK and dnaJ genes, were sequenced from representative isolates to assess their taxonomic position by phylogenetic analysis. The bacteria in each group belonged to different lineages that might represent three different new Mesorhizobium species, two of which form a novel clade very distinct from other species in the genus. Most A. sparsifolia symbionts harboured closely related nodA and nodC genes forming new lineages. The presence of these closely related symbiosis genes in various genomic backgrounds and the incongruence observed between the different gene phylogenies indicate a history of horizontal gene transfer of symbiosis genes between the A. sparsifolia symbionts.  相似文献

Summary Explants of axillary buds excised from mature adult stems of Swainsona formosa (G. Don) J. Thompson (syn. Clianthus formosus) were cultured on Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with a range of auxins, cytokinins, and sucrose concentrations. Auxins did not increase shoot or bud numbers above controls, and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid was the only auxin to significantly increase callus production. Benzyladenine or thidiazuron incorporated into the medium at 0.1 μM stimulated shoot and bud production, and shoot growth occurred following removal of cytokinins from the medium after 4 wk. Shoot number increased linearly with sucrose concentration up to 40 g l−1, but shoot height and the number of cytokinin-induced buds were optimal at sucrose levels of 20–30 g l−1. Roots were initiated in vitro following treatment of cuttings with 0.1% indole-3-butyric acid and 0.1% α-naphthaleneactic acid. Plantlets were successfully established in soil but were plagiotropic and exhibited distichous phyllotaxy.  相似文献

The Abildgaardieae tribe within the family Cyperaceae comprises six or seven genera, among which Abildgaardia, Bulbostylis and Fimbristylis pose a challenge regarding their morphological delimitation. Molecular phylogenetic analyses including species of Abildgaardieae are rare, but in most of those studies, Abildgaardia and Fimbristylis appear as more closely related to each other than to the Bulbostylis genus. Duration of the style base has been one of the most widely used characters for delimiting these three genera. The style base is a persistent structure in most species of Bulbostylis and deciduous in Abildgaardia and Fimbristylis. The reasons why the style base may persist or fall off have been scarcely discussed. The assumption that abscission layers are present in the style base of all three genera and the fact that tracheids have been observed in the style base of Bulbostylis suggest that this structure might have histological complexity. In view of this, a complete ontogenetic and anatomical study of the gynoecium has been carried out for all these three genera. It turned out that the style base is histologically simple in Abildgaardia, Bulbostylis and Fimbristylis and shows similar structure and development in all three genera. The fact that the style base has a shorter duration in Abildgaardia and Fimbristylis than in Bulbostylis might be related to the lower number of sclerotised cells that make up such structures in the mature fruit of the former two genera. Abscission of the style and style base may be the result of much simpler reasons than the differentiation of an abscission layer, resulting merely from mechanical shear force effects. Differences among genera have been observed in the shape of the style base and the development of the style. The histological simplicity of the style base is consistent with the homoplastic appearance of this structure in genera that are not closely related (e.g. Rhynchospora). Because of this, while the presence of the thickened style base seems to be a synapomorphy in species of Abildgaardieae, its persistence on or detachment from the fruit might have emerged repeatedly during this clade evolution and might not be a suitable character for genera delimitation.  相似文献

A comparative study of the floral structure in the species of the genus Rhapis (Arecaceae, Coryphoideae, Rhapidinae) is presented. Flowers are mainly unisexual, with three sepals, three petals, 6 stamens or staminodes and three carpels or carpellodes. Some evidences of basal congenital and apical postgenital fusion of the carpels, first time reported in the genus, were observed in the gynoecium. Ovules are basally attached and crassinucellate; they appear to be slightly anatropous. The morphology of the filaments suggests a division of the species into two groups: Rhapis excelsa and R. subtilis exhibit thick and keeled filaments, whereas R. gracilis, R. humilis, R. laosensis, R. micrantha and R. multifida have slender, non-keeled filaments. Relationships of Rhapis with the rest of the genera of Rhapidinae are inferred on the light of floral structure.  相似文献

It has been extensively documented that exposure of amphibians and teleost fish to exogenous steroid hormones like estrogen, androgen, xenoestrogen or steroid biosynthesis inhibitors can impair their gonadal development or induce sex reversal against genotypic sex. However, the molecular pathways underlying sexual development and the effects of sex steroids or other exogenous hormones in these aquatic vertebrates remain elusive. Recently, a germ plasm-associated piRNA (piwi-interacting RNA) pathway has been shown to be a determinant in the development of animal gonadal germline cells. In the current study, we examined whether this piRNA pathway is involved in the regulation of sex steroid hormones in gonadal development. We firstly established developmental expression patterns of three key piRNA pathway genes (mael, piwi and vasa), during Silurana (Xenopus) tropicalis embryogenesis and early larval development. All three genes exhibit high expression at early developmental stages and have significantly decreased expression thereafter, indicating a very active involvement of piRNA pathway at the beginning of embryogenesis. We further examined gene expression changes of those genes in frog larvae exposed to two sex steroid biosynthesis inhibitors, fadrozole and finasteride, both of which are known to result in male-biased or female-biased phenotypes, respectively. We found that fadrozole and finasteride exposures increased the expression of piRNA pathway genes such as mael and vasa at the larval stage when the expression of piRNA pathway genes is programmed to be very low. Therefore, our results indicate that the piRNA pathway is likely a common pathway by which different sex steroid hormones regulate gonadal sex differentiation.  相似文献

Oysters and mussels are among the most farmed species in aquaculture industry around the world. The aim of this study was to test the toxicity of cryoprotective agents to trochophore larvae from two different species of bivalves and develop an improved cryopreservation protocol to ensure greater efficiency in the development of cryopreserved trochophores (14 h old oyster larvae and 20 h old mussel larvae) to normal D-larvae for future developments of hatchery spat production. The cryopreservation protocol producing the best results for oyster trochophores (60.0 ± 6.7% normal D-larvae) was obtained by holding at 0 °C for 5 min then cooling at 1 °C min−1 to −10 °C and holding for 5 min before cooling at 0.5 °C to −35 °C, holding 5 min and then plunging into liquid nitrogen (LN), using 10% ethylene glycol. For mussel experiments, no significant differences were found when cooling at 0.5 °C min−1 or at 1 °C min−1 for CPA combinations with 10% ethylene glycol and at 0.5 °C min−1. Using these combinations, around half of trochophores were able to develop to normal D-larvae post-thawing (48.9 ± 7.6% normal D-larvae).  相似文献

Structural alterations induced in response to degradation by two white rot Basidiomycetes on the secondary xylem of Azadirachta indica (L) Del., was compared. In vitro decay test was employed to investigate the pattern of delignification of Azadirachta wood by Trichoderma harzianum and Chrysosporium asperatum. Wood samples inoculated with both the strains were analyzed for different periods viz. 30, 60, 90 and 120 days after fungal inoculation. Initially there was no appreciable percent weight loss of the wood blocks but later on (after 60 days) it increased rapidly and was found similar for both the strains (43-46% of wood mass). Samples inoculated with both the strains showed dual pattern of degradation i.e. selective delignification in the initial stage followed by simultaneous rot during advance stage of decay. Separation of the cells due to dissolution of middle lamella was the characteristic feature of both strains but in the advanced stage of decay, formation of erosion troughs were conspicuous in all the cell types. Other features such as cell wall thinning, rounded pit erosion, formation of erosion channels and bore holes were also observed frequently. Initially, fungal invasion started through the vessel lumen, followed by all the cell types of the xylem. From the vessels, mycelia entered into the adjacent rays and parenchyma cells through the pits. In advanced stage, degradation was so pronounced that rays were partially or even completely destroyed while many cells including vessels were either deformed or destroyed due to loss of rigidity of their walls. Structural alterations induced in response to C. asperatum and T. harzianum attack is described in details.  相似文献

Ambrosia beetles (Coleoptera: Scolytinae) are associated with strictly entomochoric and mutualistic fungi. We studied the mycobiota associated with Scolytodes unipunctatus, ambrosia beetles that infest Cecropia trees in Central America. Isolates were characterized using morphology and rDNA sequences (ITS region, LSU, and SSU rDNA). Four species are described here: Raffaelea scolytodis sp. nov. (Ophiostomatales), Gondwanamyces scolytodis sp. nov., Custingophora cecropiae sp. nov., and Graphium sp. (Microascales). The genus Custingophora is emended to include Knoxdaviesia anamorphs of Gondwanamyces based on uniformity of DNA sequences and phenotype.  相似文献

Inter-simple Sequence Repeats (ISSRs) technique was designed to assess genetic diversity and relationships within the Mediterranean Hedysarea species belonging to the two genus Sulla and Hedysarum. These constitute an important phytogenetic patrimony able to promote forage production mainly in arid and semi arid areas. Eight ISSR primers generated a total of 96 polymorphic markers and revealed high polymorphism among the studied species. The genetic relationship results exhibit the distinction of Hedysarum membranaceum and Hedysarum aculeolatum from Sulla species. However, Hedysarum humile presents a molecular similarity with Sulla taxa revealing a common genetic basis. In addition, in agreement with morphological taxonomy, the two Sulla spinosissima and Sulla capitata species diverge molecularly. In Tunisia, the northern Sulla pallida and the southern S. spinosissima seem to be molecularly closely related suggesting their implication in breeding improvement program particularly in arid and semi arid areas in order to enhance forage production in the marginal area. Moreover, the great similarities exhibited between Sulla coronaria – the only cultivated Sulla species – and Sulla flexuosa can be exploited in a forage crop enhancement.  相似文献

Torrubiella is a genus of arthropod-pathogenic fungi that primarily attacks spiders and scale insects. Based on the morphology of the perithecia, asci, and ascospores, it is classified in Clavicipitaceae s. lat. (Hypocreales), and is considered a close relative of Cordyceps s. 1., which was recently reclassified into three families (Clavicipitaceae s. str., Cordycipitaceae, Ophiocordycipitaceae) and four genera (Cordyceps s. str, Elaphocordyceps, Metacordyceps, and Ophiocordyceps). Torrubiella is distinguished morphologically from Cordyceps s. lat. mainly by the production of superficial perithecia and the absence of a well-developed stipitate stroma. To test and refine evolutionary hypotheses regarding the placement of Torrubiella and its relationship to Cordyceps s. lat., a multi-gene phylogeny was constructed by conducting ML and Bayesian analyses. The monophyly of Torrubiella was rejected by these analyses with species of the genus present in Clavicipitaceae, Cordycipitaceae, and Ophiocordycipitaceae, and often intermixed among species of Cordyceps s. lat. The morphological characters traditionally used to define the genus are, therefore, not phylogenetically informative, with the stipitate stromata being gained and/or lost several times among clavicipitaceous fungi. Two new genera (Conoideocrella, Orbiocrella) are proposed to accommodate two separate lineages of torrubielloid fungi in the Clavicipitaceae s. str. In addition, one species is reclassified in Cordyceps s. str. and three are reclassified in Ophiocordyceps. The phylogenetic importance of anamorphic genera, host affiliation, and stipitate stromata is discussed.  相似文献
