Bacteriophage were isolated from bacterially colonized Anguina funesta galls in ryegrass. Lolium rigidum , associated with annual ryegrass toxicity (ARGT). These bacteriophage lysed all strains of the Clavibacter sp. associated with ARGT but not strains of the related bacteria, Clavibacter iranicum, Clavibacter tritici or Clavibacter rathayi , or strains of other plant pathogenic coryneforms tested.  相似文献

Contarinia tritici emerges the same year as the larvae are in the wheat ears and up to 3 years later. Its parasites emerge up to 2 years after the larvae are in the wheat ears, but never the same year. This indicates that the supernumerary generation of C. tritici that occurs on couch grass in August and September may be expected to be free from parasites and so constitutes a dangerous source of replenishment of the pest.
Emergence of Sitodiplosis mosellana can take place after the larvae have been in the soil up to twelve winters. Most of any one year's larvae do not necessarily emerge as midges after one winter, although usually this is so. Any one year's flight is probably a composite one derived from several previous generations of this one-generation-a-year gall midge.  相似文献

The possibility of using an embryo test as a means of determining the reaction of wheat varieties to loose smut ( Ustilago tritici (Pers.) Rostr.) has been investigated. Fifty-seven varieties were inoculated with two physiologic races by the partial vacuum method and the embryos, seedlings, and adult plants were examined for infection. Most of the varieties were fully susceptible to one or both races, and only ten showed real resistance to any one race. Braun R and Molinel proved almost immune to infection. The resistance in other varieties which showed no infection in the field was expressed as embryo susceptibility, i.e. the embryo became infected in much the same way as in field-susceptible varieties.
In the latter varieties infection passes from the embryo into the growing point of the young seedling. In the embryo-susceptible field-resistant varieties, infection does not pass from the scutellum and the growing point is therefore uninfected.
The reaction of most of the varieties tested was straightforward resistance or susceptibility, but in a few varieties a small proportion of the grains reacted differently from the majority. These reactions are discussed.  相似文献

Three physiologic races of loose smut (named Ci, C2 and C3), found in wheat varieties grown at Cambridge, differ from those identified in Holland. The resistance or susceptibility of fifty-seven wheat varieties to races Ci, C2 and C3 has been determined. Experiments have shown that infection of an ear can take place over a period of several days. There is a close relationship between the percentage of plants attacked and the severity of attack in a single plant.  相似文献

五十年代以来,小麦白秆病先后发生于我国的四川、青海和西藏的高寒地区。由于是一种摧毁性病害,很快受到有关方面的研究,测定出有效的防治措施并推广,从而限制了该病的扩展和危害。但在病原菌方面,过去国内一些研究者虽先后几经研究,不仅未能获得统一的学名且有错误的鉴定。因此,有必要再研究,以便正确地识别此菌的分类位置。作者据川、青、藏高原收集到的该菌标本及培养物切片和染色进行镜检,观察到小麦白秆病菌的产孢结构是瓶梗型的,确实应隶属于壳月孢属(Selenophoma)内,并以此菌的形态特征也不同于壳月孢属内的其它种,因而认为是一新种——小麦壳月孢(Selenophoma tritici sp.nov.),文中对新种作了形态特征的汉文和拉丁文描述和附图。此外,还阐明了现代半知菌类分类中产孢细胞的特征的重要性。模式标本存放于中国科学院微生物研究所真菌标本室(HMAS)。  相似文献

油松与赤松疱锈病是两针松类枝干上的重要病害,从油松和赤松主干病皮上取锈孢子分别向山芍药、芍药、返顾马先蒿、轮花马先蒿、长白茶藨子、东北茶藨子、香茶藨子和刺李进行室内和室外人工接种试验,终于在山芍药、芍药上接种成功,产生与自然状态下相同的典型症状。同样方法用夏孢子接种也都成功,在两种芍药上所产生的夏孢子堆与冬孢子柱以及夏孢子与冬孢子的形态也基本相同。由此可以肯定,油松疱锈病与赤松疱锈病是同一病原,病原菌为松芍柱锈菌[cronartium flaccidum(Alb·et Schw·)Wint]。取锈孢子用同样方法经多次在返顾马先蒿、轮花马先蒿、长白茶藨子、东北茶藨子、香茶藨子和刺李上接种,均未成功,因此认为这些植物与此两种疱锈病的发生无关,两种疱锈病在辽宁的转主寄主是山芍药(Paeonia obovata Haxim.)和芍药(P.lactiflora Pall.)。  相似文献

Cultivated barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) is considered as a non-host or inappropriate host species for wheat stripe rust caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici. Most barley cultivars show a broad-spectrum resistance to wheat stripe rust. To determine the genes for resistance to wheat stripe rust in barley, a cross was made between a resistant barley line Y12 and a susceptible line Y16. The two parents, F(1) and 147 BC(1) plants were tested at seedling stage with Chinese prevalent race CYR32 of Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici by artificial inoculation in greenhouse. The results indicated that Y12 possessed one dominant resistance gene to wheat stripe rust, designated YrpstY1 provisionally. A total of 388 simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers were used to map the resistance gene in Y12 using bulked segregant analysis. A linkage map, including nine SSR loci on chromosome 7H and YrpstY1, was constructed using the BC(1) population, indicating that the resistance gene YrpstY1 is located on chromosome 7H. It is potential to transfer the resistance gene into common wheat for stripe rust resistance.  相似文献

In an investigation of the causes of the invasion of woody plants into grasslands, competition between seedlings of Prosopis glandulosa Torr. and Bouteloua curtipendula (Michx.) Torr. was examined. Introduction of P. glandulosa into a B. curtipendula neighborhood significantly reduced P. glandulosa dry mass when compared to P. glandulosa growth alone. The greater the time interval from P. glandulosa germination to addition of B. curtipendula, the less interference the grass had on woody plant growth. Reciprocally, the greater the time interval from B. curtipendula germination to addition of P. glandulosa, the more interference the grass had on woody plant growth. Prosopis glandulosa belowground dry mass was <0.02 g (all in the upper 30 cm of soil) when planted after B. curtipendula at any soil depth, but if planted alone its root dry mass ranged from 2 to 8 g depending on depth. Prosopis glandulosa seedling dry mass increased linearly with soil depth, while B. curtipendula dry mass reached a plateau. In general, belowground dry mass of P. glandulosa was distributed throughout the soil depth examined (decreasing with depth), while 80% of B. curtipendula dry mass was found in the upper 30 cm of soil, suggesting a partitioning of soil resources. Data suggest that P. glandulosa and perhaps other shade-intolerant woody species that establish in grasslands do so in disturbances or vegetation gaps. Gaps may close, but by this time woody plant roots are below grass roots, thus partitioning soil resources and reducing interspecific competition.  相似文献

Maize grains were exposed to 16–20 combinations of soil moisture and soil temperature (1–30 C.) for varying periods of time. Grains germinated readily in the wettest soils at 30 and 200 C, but germination was inhibited at the lower levels of soil moisture, and inhibited or delayed at the lower temperatures. Grains which failed to germinate in the soil were transferred to damp sand at 200 C. and the residual viability of the samples was determined. Mortality of grain was highest at combinations of temperature and soil moisture which just did not allow of germination. Soil conditions even more unfavourable for germination gave greater residual viability in the samples. The viability of dormant grains was more rapidly destroyed at high than at low temperatures although the reduction in viability continued longer at low temperatures, probably because of the slower drying of the soil.
This mortality is interpreted in terms of pathogenic activity, and it is shown that mortality at high temperatures (20–35 o C.) is explicable on this general hypothesis. It is tentatively suggested that temperature and soil moisture conditions interact in selecting out and favouring the activity of specific populations of pathogens in the soil.  相似文献

Individuals of the grain aphid Sitobion avenae were collected from wheat and cocksfoot stands around Hampshire, UK, during March and April 1994. Eight wheat and eight cocksfoot aphid clones were chosen on the basis of readily distinguishable RAPD-PCR fingerprint profiles. The performances (weight, fecundity and survival) of successive generations of each of these clones were then carefully monitored in the laboratory as new generations of aphids were transferred either to winter wheat or to cocksfoot in planned sequences. Even those clones that were originally caught on the same host showed significant variability in performance. Clones generally performed better on their host of origin than they did on the alternate host, and they performed less well on the alternate host compared to the clones that had originated there. A comparison of the performance of third generation aphids with first generation aphids showed that the experience of the mother in the second generation often influences the subsequent performance of their offspring. As the sequence of host transfers had more effect on the performance of wheat clones than cocksfoot clones, it is likely that wheat clones are more specialised, such that wheat is a satisfactory host for cocksfoot clones but not vice versa. The study provides evidence of genetic variation in performance on host and evidence for clonal adaptation to particular host species. This adaptation may well be a major cause of the observed consistent genetic differentiability of populations of S. avenae found on wheat and roadside grasses in early spring in southern England.  相似文献

Stripe rust (Puccinia striiformis f.sp. tritici) is the most devastating disease of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) accounting huge economical losses to the industry worldwide. HD 2329 was a widely grown wheat cultivar which had become highly susceptible to stripe rust and was used to understand the biochemical aspects of the host pathogen interaction through characterization of superoxide dismutase (SOD). In the present study, two types of SOD, ionically or covalently bound to the particulate fraction were found in the stripe rust infected and uninfected wheat leaves of susceptible cultivar HD 2329. Cell walls of leaves contained a high level of SOD, of which 41-44% was extractable by 2 M NaCl and 10-13% by 0.5% EDTA in infected and uninfected leaves. The NaCl-released SOD constituted the predominant fraction. It exhibited maximum activity at pH 9.0, had a Km value of 1.82-2.51 for uninfected and 1.77-2.37 mM for infected, respectively with pyrogallol as the substrate, and a Vmax of 9.55-21.4 and 12.4-24.1 delta A min(-1)g(-1)FW. A temperature optimum of 20 degrees C was observed for SOD of both uninfected and infected leaves. SOD showed differential response to metal ions, suggesting their distinctive nature. Inhibition of wall bound SOD by iodine and its partial regeneration of activity by mercaptoethanol suggested the involvement of cysteine in active site of the enzyme. These two forms showed greater differences with respect to thermodynamic properties like energy of activation (Ea) and enthalpy change (delta H), while entropy change (delta S) and free energy change (delta G) were similar. The results further showed that pathogen infection of the leaves of susceptible wheat cultivar induced a decrease in the SOD activity and kinetics which might be critical during the response of plant cells to the infection.  相似文献

In order to counteract the effects of the mutant genes in races of leaf rust (Puccinia recondita f.sp. tritici Rob. ex Desm.) and stem rust (P. graminis f.sp. tritici Eriks. &Henn.) in wheat, exploration of new resistance genes in wheat relatives is necessary. Three accessions of Triticum cylindricum Ces. (4x, CCDD), Acy1, Acy9, and Acy11, were tested with 10 races each of leaf rust and stem rust. They were resistant to all races tested. Viable F1 plants were produced from the crosses of the T. cylindricum accessions as males with susceptible MP and Chinese Spring ph1b hexaploid wheats (T. aestivum, 6x, AABBDD), but not with susceptible Kubanka durum wheat (T. turgidum var. durum, 4x, AABB), even with embryo rescue. In these crosses the D genome of hexaploid wheat may play a critical role in eliminating the barriers for species isolation during hybrid seed development. The T. cylindricum rust resistance was expressed in the F1 hybrids with hexaploid wheat. However, only the cross MP/Acy1 was successfully backcrossed to another susceptible hexaploid wheat, LMPG-6. In the BC2F2 of the cross MP/Acy1//LMPG-6/3/MP, monosomic or disomic addition lines with resistance to either leaf rust race 15 (infection types (IT) 1=, 1, or 1+; addition line 1) or stem rust race 15B-1 (IT 1 or 1+; addition line 2) were selected. Rust tests and examination of chromosome pairing of the F1 hybrids and the progeny of the disomic addition lines confirmed that the genes for rust resistance were located on the added T. cylindricum C-genome chromosomes rather than on the D-genome chromosomes. The T. cylindricum chromosome in addition line 2 was determined to be chromosome 4C through the detection of RFLPs among the genomes using a set of homoeologous group-specific wheat cDNA probes. Addition line 1 was resistant to the 10 races of leaf rust and addition line 2 was resistant to the 10 races of stem rust, as was the T. cylindricum parent. The added C-genome chromosomes occasionally paired with hexaploid wheat chromosomes. Translocation lines with rust resistance (2n = 21 II) may be obtained in the self-pollinated progeny of the addition lines through spontaneous recombination of the C-genome chromosomes and wheat chromosomes. Such translocation lines with resistance against a wide spectrum of rust races should be potentially valuable in breeding wheat for rust resistance.  相似文献

In order to detect and quantify Septoria tritici infection levels in wheat leaves, a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay was developed using the β-tubulin gene as target. Specific PCR primers were designed by aligning and comparing β-tubulin sequences from other fungi. The final primer set was selected after being tested against several fungi, and against S. tritici -infected and uninfected wheat leaves from different localities. A single DNA fragment (496 bp) was amplified from S. tritici, whereas no products were generated from DNA of the host plant or other micro-organisms associated with wheat leaves. Using agarose gel analysis, approximately 2 pg S. tritici genomic DNA could be detected in each assay. However, for rapid quantification of PCR-amplified products, a fluorometric microtitre plate-formatted PicoGreen assay was used; this could detect as little as 10 pg S. tritici DNA in the presence of 200 ng wheat leaf DNA. The PCR/PicoGreen assay was applied successfully to study the colonization, infection and subsequent disease development of S. tritici on wheat, both under controlled conditions in the glasshouse and in the field.  相似文献

桂花叶蜂是桂花树的主要害虫之一。幼虫取食嫩叶,对桂花树造成严重损害。在广西桂林一年发生一次。以老熟幼虫于土内作茧越冬。孤雌或两性生殖。幼虫期五龄,预蛹期长达270多天。试验结果表明,80%敌敌畏乳剂1000—1500倍液或40%乐果乳剂1000—5000倍液对幼虫均有良好的防治效果。  相似文献

Wilt of dolichos bean ( Dolichos lablab ) in the Sudan Gezira appeared to be due primarily to cockchafer grubs ( Schizonycha sp.) in the soil attacking the hypocotyls or roots of plants up to about 6 weeks after sowing. Many wilted plants also showed symptoms of ashy stem blight ( Macrophomina phaseoli ), but in these the fungus was probably a secondary invader rotting roots weakened or damaged by unfavourable soil conditions or insects. Wilt was often severe in dolichos sown on land cropped to sorghum ( Sorghum vulgare ) in the preceding season, sorghum roots in the soil harbouring the grubs. Under moderate grub attack seed dressings containing organomercurial and γ-benzene hexachloride (BHC) gave satisfactory-protection at 0.089%γ-BHC/seed but were inadequate when wilt was severe. Dieldrin and aldrin at 0.044 or 0.089%/seed gave excellent protection in all experiments, but their performance under exceptionally severe wilt conditions has yet to be tested, as also the relative efficiencies of seed treatment and soil treatment under such conditions. Fungicide-insecticide seed treatment also reduced preemergence rotting of germinating seeds due to grub attack.
Wilt rarely occurred in dolichos planted on land fallow in the preceding season, but, even in the apparent absence of wilt, seed treatment often appreciably improved emergence, plant populations, growth and yields. These effects possibly resulted from control of root damage by soil insects, such damage reducing growth and yields but not sufficiently severely to cause wilting. Pending further investigation a powder seed dressing containing organomercurial plus 20% dieldrin, and applied at 1:450 by weight to seed (about 5–6 g./acre of dieldrin), is recommended for dolichos bean in the Gezira.  相似文献
