This study examined the effects of biofeedback-induced relaxation training on attention to task, impulsivity, and locus of control among 32 learning-disabled children between the ages of 8 and 11 years. Attention to task and impulsivity were measured by the Matching Familiar Figures Test and locus of control was measured by the Nowicki-Strickland Scale. Participants were randomly assigned to experimental (N = 16) and control (N = 16) groups. The study spanned a total of 8 weeks, with the experimental treatment consisting of three sessions spaced approximately 2 weeks apart. The treatment included EMG biofeedback training used with relaxation tapes. Univariate F values and discriminant analysis procedures revealed that the attention to task and impulsivity measures proved to be valid discriminators, respectively beyond the .01 and .05 levels of significance. Experimental group subjects had significantly fewer number of errors on the attention to task measure and significantly lower impulsivity scores. It was concluded that the biofeedback-induced relaxation training affords promise in assisting learning-disabled children in reaching their education potentials. It was recommended that future research examine the long-term efficacy and the transfer to school-related tasks of this intervention.  相似文献

This study investigated effects of PUFA and micronutrient supplementation on cognition in children with ADHD symptoms. In a randomised controlled trial, 7-12-year-old children with symptoms 2 S.D. on Conners' ADHD Index were given PUFA, PUFA+multivitamins/minerals (MVM), or placebo for 15 weeks, and then all children were given PUFA+MVM for an additional 15 weeks. After 15 weeks there were improvements in a test of the ability to switch and control attention (Creature Counting) in the PUFA groups compared to placebo (N=129, p=0.002). This improvement was also observed in the placebo group after taking PUFA from weeks 16 to 30 (N=104). There were no significant improvements in other cognitive measures, or with additional micronutrient supplementation. However, improvements in cognitive performance mediated previous parent-reported improvements in inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity [N. Sinn, J. Bryan, Effect of supplementation with polyunsaturated fatty acids and micronutrients on ADHD-related problems with attention and behaviour, J. Dev. Behav. Hyperactive children (N = 15) and nonhyperactive children (N = 15) were compared. Hyperactive children were found to possess significantly higher (p less than .002) muscular tension levels and, in addition, presented more behavioral problems and had lower test scores. Both electromyographic (EMG) biofeedback and progressive relaxation exercises were successful in the significant reduction of muscular tension, hyperactivity, distractability, irritability, impulsivity, explosiveness, aggressivity, and emotionality in hyperactive children. The greatest improvement was seen in the area of "emotionality-aggression" (irritability, explosiveness, impulsivity, low frustration tolerance, aggresion). No differences were seen in the EMG improvement of drug and nondrug hyperactive children; both made progress under these self-control techniques. However, nondrug children made greater improvements in the behavioral area. Both EMG biofeedback and progressive relaxation resulted in improvements on the test scores of hyperactive subjects (Bender-Gestalt, Visual Sequential Memory, Digit Span, Coding). The therapy would appear to be improved by the inclusion of mental relaxation, concentration, meditation, and mind-blanking exercises for mental control.  相似文献

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder is a highly heritable and prevalent neuropsychiatric disorder estimated to affect 6% of school-age children. Its clinical hallmarks are inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity, which often respond substantially to treatment with methylphenidate or dextroamphetamine. Etiological theories suggest a deficit in corticostriatal circuits, particularly those components modulated by dopamine. We developed a new functional magnetic resonance imaging procedure (T2 relaxometry) to indirectly assess blood volume in the striatum (caudate and putamen) of boys 6-12 years of age in steady-state conditions. Boys with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder had higher T2 relaxation time measures in the putamen bilaterally than healthy control subjects. Relaxation times strongly correlated with the child's capacity to sit still and his accuracy in accomplishing a computerized attention task. Daily treatment with methylphenidate significantly changed the T2 relaxation times in the putamen of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, although the magnitude and direction of the effect was strongly dependent on the child's unmedicated activity state. There was a similar but nonsignificant trend in the right caudate. T2 relaxation time measures in thalamus did not differ significantly between groups, and were not affected by methylphenidate. Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder symptoms may be closely tied to functional abnormalities in the putamen, which is mainly involved in the regulation of motor behavior.  相似文献

This study investigated effects of EMG-assisted relaxation training on the academic performance, locus of control, and self-esteem of hyperactive junior high school-age boys. Twenty-four subjects each were randomly assigned to the treatment and control condition. Treatment consisted of six 20 to 25-minute sessions conducted biweekly. Pretreatment frontalis EMG, math, reading, and language performance, locus of control, and self-esteem were assessed for both groups. Outcome measures were again obtained on these dependent variables 2 weeks after the last treatment session. Experimental subjects demonstrated significantly higher posttreatment reading and language performance. Math performance gain did not reach statistical significance. A significant internal shift in locus of control was observed; however, self-esteem did not improve to that level. These outcomes correlated with significantly lower posttreatment frontalis EMG in the experimental group. EMG level did not change during the course of this study for control subjects. Implications of these findings are discussed in terms of existent research.  相似文献

The purpose of the current investigation was to determine the effects of frontal EMG biofeedback and progressive relaxation training on manual motor functioning in Parkinsonians. Twenty patients were matched and randomly assigned to two groups. All subjects were administered a brief manual motor assessment. The experimental group then underwent weekly sessions of frontal EMG and relaxation training for a period of 15 weeks. At the conclusion of the training period, both experimental and control groups were again administered the manual motor tasks. The results indicated that Parkinsonian patients are capable of significantly lowering frontal EMG activity levels. The motor task results, however, yielded no statistically significant differences between the two groups as a result of the biofeedback training.  相似文献

Therapeutic mechanisms hypothesized to underlie improvements in tension headache activity achieved with combined relaxation and eleclromyographic (EMG) biofeedback therapy were examined. These therapeutic mechanisms included (1) changes in EMG activity in frontal and trapezii muscles, (2) changes in central pain modulation as indexed by the duration of the second exteroceptive silent period (ES2), and (3) changes in headache locus of control and self-efficacy. Forty-four young adults with chronic tension-type headaches were assigned either to six sessions of relaxation and EMG biofeedback training (N = 30) or to an assessment only control group (N = 14) that required three assessment sessions. Measures of self-efficacy and locus of control were collected at pre- and posttreatment, and ES2 was evaluated at the beginning and end of the first, third, and lost session. EMG was monitored before, during, and following training trials. Relaxation/EMG biofeedback training effectively reduced headache activity: 51.7% of subjects who received relaxation/biofeedback therapy recorded at least a 50% reduction in headache activity following treatment, while controls failed to improve on any measure. Improvements in headache activity in treated subjects were correlated with increases in self-efficacy induced by biofeedback training but not with changes in EMG activity or in ES2 durations. These results provide additional support for the hypothesis that cognitive changes underlie the effectiveness of relaxation and biofeedback therapies, at least in young adult tension-type headache sufferers.  相似文献

This study examined whether group progressive relaxation training was as effective as individual EMG biofeedback training in facilitating the academic achievement and self-control of 45 hyperactive elementary school children. Academic achievement was assessed with the Gates-MacGinities Reading Tests, and self-control was measured with the Nowicki-Strickland and the Teacher Rating scales. Eight sessions were scheduled at weekly intervals. Progressive relaxation was conducted in groups of seven or eight and was induced with a commercial audiocassette program. EMG training augmented frontalis biofeedback with those taped exercises. A placebo group listened to taped children's stories. Multivariate analysis of variance indicated no significant differences among the three contrast groups when all dependent variables were considered together. However, univariate F values and discriminant analysis disclosed locus of control to be significantly more internal for the progressive relaxation condition. Also, differences between the two relaxation and the placebo groups, though not statistically significant, were all in the expected direction. While the relative efficacy of group progressive relaxation could not be established conclusively, the data appeared sufficiently positive to warrant further investigation of this cost-effective prospective intervention.The opinions expressed by the authors are not necessarily those of their respective institutions.  相似文献

An important component of creativity is divergent thinking, which involves the ability to generate novel and useful problem solutions. In this study, we tested the relation between resting-state functional connectivity of brain areas activated during a divergent thinking task (i.e., supramarginal gyrus, middle temporal gyrus, medial frontal gyrus) and the effect of practice in 32 adolescents aged 15–16. Over a period of two weeks, an experimental group (n = 16) conducted an 8-session Alternative Uses Task (AUT) training and an active control group (n = 16) conducted an 8-session rule switching training. Resting-state functional connectivity was measured before (pre-test) and after (post-test) training. Across groups at pre-test, stronger connectivity between the middle temporal gyrus and bilateral postcentral gyrus was associated with better divergent thinking performance. The AUT-training, however, did not significantly change functional connectivity. Post hoc analyses showed that change in divergent thinking performance over time was predicted by connectivity between left supramarginal gyrus and right occipital cortex. These results provide evidence for a relation between divergent thinking and resting-state functional connectivity in a task-positive network, taking an important step towards understanding creative cognition and functional brain connectivity.  相似文献

MDMA induces positive mood and increases impulse control during intoxication, but only a few studies on the neuropharmacological mechanisms underlying these processes have been conducted. It was hypothesized that pretreatment with 5-HT(1) and 5-HT(2) receptor blockers would prevent MDMA effects on mood and impulsivity. Subjects (N = 17) participated in a double-blind, placebo controlled, within-subject design involving 6 experimental conditions consisting of pretreatment (T1) and treatment (T2). T1 preceded T2 by 30 minutes. T1-T2 combinations were: placebo-placebo, 20 mg pindolol-placebo, 50 mg ketanserin-placebo, placebo-75 mg MDMA, 20 mg pindolol-75 mg MDMA and 50 mg ketanserin-75 g MDMA. Subjects completed a Profile of Mood States (POMS) questionnaire and several impulsivity tasks (Stop signal task, Matching familiar figures task, Cue dependent reversal learning task) at 1.5 hrs post-treatment. MDMA alone increased both positive (vigor, arousal, friendliness, elation, positive mood) and negative affect (anxiety, confusion) as assessed by the POMS questionnaire. MDMA also increased stop reaction time in the Stop signal task and reaction time in the Matching familiar figures task. Pretreatment with ketanserin blocked MDMA effects on positive affect, but not negative affect. Ketanserin did not influence the effects of MDMA on impulsivity. Pindolol did not interact with MDMA on any of the measures. In conclusion, 5-HT(2) receptors mediate positive moods induced by MDMA but not negative moods or impulsivity. 5-HT(1) receptors do not appear to be involved in MDMA effects on mood and impulse control. Despite the well-established involvement of both sensory (“bottom-up”) and cognitive (“top-down”) processes in literacy, the extent to which auditory or cognitive (memory or attention) learning transfers to phonological and reading skills remains unclear. Most research has demonstrated learning of the trained task or even learning transfer to a closely related task. However, few studies have reported “far-transfer” to a different domain, such as the improvement of phonological and reading skills following auditory or cognitive training. This study assessed the effectiveness of auditory, memory or attention training on far-transfer measures involving phonological and reading skills in typically developing children. Mid-transfer was also assessed through untrained auditory, attention and memory tasks. Sixty 5- to 8-year-old children with normal hearing were quasi-randomly assigned to one of five training groups: attention group (AG), memory group (MG), auditory sensory group (SG), placebo group (PG; drawing, painting), and a control, untrained group (CG). Compliance, mid-transfer and far-transfer measures were evaluated before and after training. All trained groups received 12 x 45-min training sessions over 12 weeks. The CG did not receive any intervention. All trained groups, especially older children, exhibited significant learning of the trained task. On pre- to post-training measures (test-retest), most groups exhibited improvements on most tasks. There was significant mid-transfer for a visual digit span task, with highest span in the MG, relative to other groups. These results show that both sensory and cognitive (memory or attention) training can lead to learning in the trained task and to mid-transfer learning on a task (visual digit span) within the same domain as the trained tasks. However, learning did not transfer to measures of language (reading and phonological awareness), as the PG and CG improved as much as the other trained groups. Further research is required to investigate the effects of various stimuli and lengths of training on the generalization of sensory and cognitive learning to literacy skills.  相似文献

The hypothesis that biofeedback training in frontalis muscle relaxation increases beliefs in internal (personal) locus of control was tested. Subjects were divided into two groups (internals and externals) based on Mirels' (1970) factor analyzedpersonal control subscale of Rotter's (1966) I-E Scale. Internal and external subjects were assigned randomly to one of three conditions: biofeedback (BF), false feedback (FF), or no feedback (NF). All subjects were measured on frontalis electromyographic (EMG) activity. Training consisted of three sessions spaced 1 week apart. Each session was comprised of a 5-minute baseline (nonfeedback) trial followed by a 20-minute experimental session. After each experimental session, subjects completed a questionnaire which assessed the extent to which they attributed their EMG performance to personal and environmental sources. After three sessions, subjects were posttested on the I-E Scale. Results indicated that subjects receiving BF reduced their EMG activity more than did subjects in either the FF or NF conditions, and this effect was maintained across all three sessions. Subjects who received BF shifted toward internal personal locus of control from pre- to posttesting, whereas no such change was found for either FF or NF subjects. Also, the relationship between BF training and change in personal locus of control was mediated by subjects attributing their EMG reduction more to personal effort than to properties of the task. Results are discussed in terms of the importance of contingent feedback as a determinant of cognitions of control.  相似文献

目的:评估系统性心理预防及干预在自闭症儿童口腔疾病治疗中的作用。方法:将在我医院进行正畸治疗的40例12~16岁自闭症患者按着随机分配分为对照组与实验组,每组各20例。在正畸治疗过程中,对照组实施常规心理行为预防及干预,包括:治疗前的基础准备、治疗过程中注意事项、治疗后康复方案及辅助治疗等。而对于实验组,除了实施常规的行为预防及干预外,还进行系统性心理行为预防及干预,包括:语言疏导、健康教育、辅助矫正、生命体征监测、肢体语言演示等。结果:实验组和控制组的孩子们能够完成正畸治疗,自闭症儿童治疗配合的的程度,听话依从性,显著高于对照组(P0.01),两组之间蛀牙数和牙龈指数存在差异(P0.05)。结论:系统性行为预防及干预能够提高自闭症儿童的配合合作的程度及医嘱依从性,值得在口腔正畸科门诊自闭症儿童患者中推广。  相似文献

But while research on its application suggests that this technique induces significantly lower EMG levels in experimental samples as a whole, it also discloses that some children evidence but limited reductions. Most likely, this variability is introduced by differences in subject attributes. This study assessed that prospect by examining whether four common subject characteristics correlated with the extent of decrease in EMG level achieved by 59 hyperactive school-aged boys. Those variables were pretreatment EMG level, age degree of hyperactivity, and locus of control. Number of applications or training sessions was included as the fifth predictor. A multiple regression analysis determined that only locus of control was predictive of success in EMG training; however, it accounted for 72% of the variance. 为了确定渐进性肌肉放松对急性心肌梗死患者焦虑情绪是否有缓解作用,本研究选取2016年4月至2019年4月期间在曲靖市第一人民医院心内科治疗的患者274例作为研究对象,随机分为对照组和观察组,每组137例,平均年龄(53.27±10.3)岁。对照组在治疗期间给予常规护理,而观察组在常规护理的基础上给予渐进性肌肉放松治疗。放松治疗每天2次,每次10组,一周4天,共治疗4周。分别于患者入院48 h和治疗后1个月对患者的血压、心率、并发症以及焦虑水平进行记录评估。研究显示,入院治疗1个月后,患者的血压、心率均有所下降,但无统计学差异;相较于对照组,观察组的并发症发病患者均明显下降(p<0.05);此外,患者入院时均有不同程度的焦虑情绪,经过一个月的治疗后患者的焦虑评分均明显下降,且在观察组中焦虑得分更显著低于对照组(p<0.05)。本实验在较大的临床样本中证实渐进性肌肉放松训练能明显降低患者的焦虑情绪并有助于降低患者并发症,能在治疗急性心肌梗死患者时提供较大帮助,为临床应用放松训练辅助治疗心肌梗死提供了较为可靠的实验证据,有重要的实用价值。  相似文献

目的:探讨运动想象结合常规康复训练对脑卒中偏瘫患者上肢肌力恢复的影响.方法:选择31例病情稳定的脑卒中偏瘫患者,随机分为治疗组(n=16)和对照组(n=15)两组,两组患者均进行常规康复训练,其中治疗组采用常规康复训练联合运动想象治疗,对照组只进行常规康复训练.两组常规康复训练时间相同.分别在治疗前、治疗后4周、8周进行患侧上肢肌力评定,观察患侧上肢肌力恢复情况.结果:治疗前两组各项评分差异无统计学意义.治疗8周后,两组患者肌力评级与各组治疗前比较差异均有统计学意义(P<0.05),且两组肌力比较差异也有统计学意义(P<0.05).结论:运动想象结合常规康复训练有利于脑卒中偏瘫患者上肢肌力的恢复,与以往的研究结果一致.  相似文献

Facilitation of general cognitive capacities such as executive functions through training has stirred considerable research interest during the last decade. Recently we demonstrated that training of auditory attention with forced attention dichotic listening not only facilitated that performance but also generalized to an untrained attentional task. In the present study, 13 participants underwent a 4-week dichotic listening training programme with instructions to report syllables presented to the left ear (FL training group). Another group (n = 13) was trained using the non-forced instruction, asked to report whichever syllable they heard the best (NF training group). The study aimed to replicate our previous behavioural results, and to explore the neurophysiological correlates of training through event-related brain potentials (ERPs). We partially replicated our previous behavioural training effects, as the FL training group tended to show more allocation of auditory spatial attention to the left ear in a standard dichotic listening task. ERP measures showed diminished N1 and enhanced P2 responses to dichotic stimuli after training in both groups, interpreted as improvement in early perceptual processing of the stimuli. Additionally, enhanced anterior N2 amplitudes were found after training, with relatively larger changes in the FL training group in the forced-left condition, suggesting improved top-down control on the trained task. These results show that top-down cognitive training can modulate the left-right allocation of auditory spatial attention, accompanied by a change in an evoked brain potential related to cognitive control.  相似文献

Pharmacological treatment of children with ADHD has been shown to be successful; however, medication may not normalize attention functions. The present study was based on a neuropsychological model of attention and assessed the effect of an attention training program on attentional functioning of children with ADHD. Thirty-two children with ADHD and 16 healthy children participated in the study. Children with ADHD were randomly assigned to one of the two conditions, i.e., an attention training program which trained aspects of vigilance, selective attention and divided attention, or a visual perception training which trained perceptual skills, such as perception of figure and ground, form constancy and position in space. The training programs were applied in individual sessions, twice a week, for a period of four consecutive weeks. Healthy children did not receive any training. Alertness, vigilance, selective attention, divided attention, and flexibility were examined prior to and following the interventions. Children with ADHD were assessed and trained while on ADHD medications. Data analysis revealed that the attention training used in the present study led to significant improvements of various aspects of attention, including vigilance, divided attention, and flexibility, while the visual perception training had no specific effects. The findings indicate that attention training programs have the potential to facilitate attentional functioning in children with ADHD treated with ADHD drugs.  相似文献

目的:探讨音乐疗法对阿尔茨海默病(AD)患者睡眠质量、生活质量、认知功能及激越行为的影响。方法:选择2016年8月至2017年10月湖南省脑科医院收治的AD患者50例为研究对象,采用随机数字表法分为观察组和对照组各25例,对照组给予常规药物治疗及认知训练,观察组在对照组的基础上给予音乐疗法辅助治疗,于治疗前、治疗8周,治疗16周采用匹茨堡睡眠质量指数量表(PSQI)、睡眠状况自评量表(SRSS)、生活质量测定量表简表(WHOQOL-BREF)、简易智力状态检查量表(MMSE)、简明精神病评定量表(BPRS)和激越行为量表(CMAI)评价两组治疗效果。结果:两组治疗8周和治疗16周的PSQI评分、SRSS评分、BPRS评分、CMAI评分与治疗前比较均明显降低,且治疗16周与治疗8周比较进一步降低,观察组治疗8周和治疗16周的上述评分均低于对照组(P0.05);WHOQOL-BREF评分、MMSE评分治疗8周和治疗16周与治疗前比较明显提高,且治疗16周与治疗8周比较进一步提高,观察组治疗8周和治疗16周的上述评分均高于对照组(P0.05)。结论:音乐疗法辅助治疗AD可以进一步改善患者的睡眠质量、认知功能和激越行为,提高患者的生活质量。  相似文献
