The previously unknown female and larva for the New Zealand glacier midge, Zealandochlus latipalpis Brundin are described for the first time, and the pupa described more fully than previously. Unlike the male, which is brachypterous, the female has large wings possessing traces of a vein between R1 and R4+5 uniquely for the subfamily Podonominae. The larvae, known locally as ice-worms, live in meltwater pools and ice caves of the Franz Joseph and Fox glaciers, New Zealand. Cladistic analysis of this highly autapomorphic species results in an unresolved trichotomy Zelandochlus + Parochlus + Podonomus, which is no advance on the suggestion made by Brundin (1966) concerning the relationships. Information is too scanty on many species of the putative related genera, but additional morphological features indicate that there may be a sister group relationship with part of Parochlus.  相似文献

The immature stages and male adult of Afrochlus harrisoni Freeman are described for the first time, from the type locality, a granite outcrop in Zimbabwe. A phylogenetic position within the subfamily Podonominae as sister to South African-western/central Australian genus Archaeochlus Brundin, suggested in 1966 by Brundin from the adult female alone, is confirmed by cladistic analysis of all life history stages combined. Within the Podonominae, the tribes Boreochlini and Podonomini erected by Brundin are monophyletic only if Trichotanypus Kieffer is transferred from the former to the latter. Little or none of the structure provided by the combined evidence from all stages is retrieved by cladistic analyses of characters derived solely from the adult stage. The implications of erection of monotypic genera for adult-only taxa are discussed.  相似文献

Abstract. The rare Neotropical ant subfamily Leptanilloidinae is revised and its internal phylogeny and biogeography discussed. A new genus, Asphinctanilloides gen.n., including three new species, A. amazona, A. anae and A. manauara, and three new species of Leptanilloides , L. improvisa, L. legionaria and L. sculpturata are described. The only previously known species of the subfamily, L . biconstricta Mann (1923) , is redescribed, and the larva of L. legionaria sp.n. is described. Keys to the genera and the species, and a phylogeny of the group are provided. Emphasis has been placed on the study of abdominal and sting characters.  相似文献

Anopheles (Nyssorhynchus) lanei Galv?o and Amaral is here redescribed using morphological characteristics of adult, male and female, fourth instar larva and pupa. The larva, pupa, and male genitalia are illustrated. Diagnostic morphological characters of adults, male genitalia, fourth instar larva and pupa are provided to distinguish An. lanei from other species of the Argyritarsis section. Species distribution data are based on the published literature records and bionomics data are based on both literature records and field data.  相似文献

The larva and pupa of Orthotelia sparganella (Thunberg, 1794), the type species of the genus Orthotelia Stephens, 1829, are redescribed and some notes are given on the adult morphology. The nomenclature, distribution and biology of the species are reviewed. The systematic position of Orthotelia is discussed and the genus is transferred from the Yponomeutidae sensu lato to the Glyphipterigidae, as a separate, monogeneric subfamily, the Orthoteliinae Herrich-Schäffer, 1857.  相似文献

Immature stages of two species in each of the two tribes, Anthophorini and Melectini, of Anthophorinae found in Australia were studied for the first time. The larvae and pupa of Amegilla (Amegilla) pulchra (Smith), the mature larva and pupa of Amegilla (Asarapoda) sp., the mature larva of Thyreus lugubris (Smith) and the pupa of Thyreus caeruleopunctatus (Blanchard) are described and the larvae are figured, and information is given on their behaviour and development.  相似文献

The chironomid genus Conochironomus is revised, with diagnoses provided for both sexes of adults and, for the first time, the immature stages. The Afrotropical genotype C.acutistilus Freeman and the newly described Australian species C.australiensis (for misidentified acutistilus in Australia), C.cygnus and C.kakadu are described in all stages. C.avicula Freeman is redescribed from the male, and C.deemingi is described as new from the male alone, both from the Afrotropical Region. The Australian species C.cervus is described as new, based on the pupa alone. Comments are made on the ecology and distribution. A previously little-recognized 'tropical' Gondwanan biogeographic explanation for Conochironomus distribution is postulated.  相似文献

On the basis of foregut anatomy and embryonic/larval shell morphology, the radula-less conoidean gastropod genus Clathromangelia Monterosato, 1884 is transferred to the subfamily Daphnellinae (family Turridae). The Lower Pliocene to Recent species arc reviewed. The type species is Pleurotoma granum Philippi, 1844, Recent from Sicily. C. quadrillum Dujardin, 1837 a fossil species described from the Miocene (and ranging to the Lower Pliocene) is here considered a distinct species, with planktotrophic larval development. Clathromangelia strigillata Pallary, 1904 from the Gulf of Gabè (Tunisia) is figured and redescribed. Clathromangelia loiselieri Oberling, 1970 (lectotype here selected) is a senior synonym of C. fehrae (emend. pro C. fehri ) Aartsen & Zenetou, 1987. Three new species are described and figured from the Italian Pliocene: C. tavianii sp. n., C. elvirae sp. n. and C. marinae sp. n.  相似文献

Polypedilum (Tripodura) digitifer Townes andPolypedilum (Tripodura) griseopunctatum (Malloch) are morphologically similar species of Chironomidae. Using associated material from New York State, the adult males for both species are redescribed (adding previously ignored characters) and the mature larva and pupa are thoroughly described for the first time. Traits for distinguishing these species from each other and possibly from other Nearctic species ofPolypedilum (Tripodura) are provided.  相似文献

Abstract Semiocladius Sublette and Wirth, described from adult midges from south-western Pacific Ocean shores, has the Australian Camptocladius crassipennis Skuse as its type. Immature stages previously known only from Semiocladius kuscheli Sublette and Wirth from sub-Antarctic New Zealand were associated tentatively, by co-occurrence. For the first time, the immature stages for the Australian species are associated definitively by rearing. Larvae rear to a pupa identical to a speculatively associated exuviae of Semiocladius from Lord Howe Island. Adults conform to the described S. crassipennis . Larval Semiocladius are distinctive and previous diagnoses are confirmed. In contrast, the putatively associated pupa of S. kuscheli is indistinguishable from that of the marine intertidal Thalassosmittia Strenke and Remmert, whereas the newly associated S. crassipennis pupa is distinct. The pupa of S. kuscheli may have been misassociated. Semiocladius live in the mesohaline of the salinity gradient of the Clyde River estuary, south-east Australia and the genus appears to be a distinctive western Pacific saline/mesohaline taxon.  相似文献

The systematics of the freshwater ostracods of the subfamily Dolerocypridinae in Southeast Asia is reviewed: A total of five species are known and they are assigned to three genera. Astenocypris papyracea (Sars) 1903 and Dolerocypris sinensis Sars, 1903 are redescribed. Dolerocypris fasciata (Müller) 1776, from Indonesia is figured and the hitherto observed variations are discussed. Dolerocypris pellucida Klie, 1932 is transferred to the genus Tanycypris Triebel, 1959.  相似文献

The biology of the Australian coccinellid Rodatus major (Blackburn) and its prey, the hemipteran margarodid Monophlebulus pilosior (Maskell), are described. New predators and a new parasite of M. pilosior are recorded. Rodatus major makes use of elaborate and distinctive defensive adaptations and behaviour to protect itself from predators. They include cryptic coloration, aposematic behaviour, production of wax by larvae, production of a large, thick protective covering concealing the pupa and resembling an M. pilosior ovisac, and reflex bleeding. It is the only known coccinellid species in which both prepupa and pupa are hidden by a protective shroud of wax threads. Rodatus major has a specialized feeding behaviour. Its potential as a biological control agent is assessed. It is only the second Australian margarodid-feeding coccinellid to be studied, Rodolia cardinalis (Mulsant) being the first.  相似文献
