Sustainability of soil-plant systems requires, among other things, good development and function of mycorrhizal symbioses. The effects of P and micronutrient levels on development of an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus (AMF) and uptake of Zn, Cu, Mn and Fe by maize (Zea mays L.) were studied. A pot experiment with maize either inoculated or not with Glomus intraradices was conducted in a sand:soil (3 :1) mix (pH 6.5) in a greenhouse. Our goal was to evaluate the contribution of mycorrhizae to uptake of Cu, Zn, Mn and Fe by maize as influenced by soil P and micronutrient levels. Two levels of P (10 and 40 mg kg−1 soil) and three levels of a micronutrient mixture: 0, 1X and 2X (1X contained, in mg kg−1 soil, 4.2 Fe, 1.2 Mn, 0.24 Zn, 0.06 Cu, 0.78 B and 0.036 Mo), were applied to pots. There were more extraradical hyphae at the low P level than at the high P level when no micronutrients were added to the soil. Root inoculation with mycorrhiza and application of micronutrients increased shoot biomass. Total Zn content in shoots was higher in mycorrhizal than non-mycorrhizal plants grown in soils with low P and low or no micronutrient addition. Total Cu content in shoots was increased by mycorrhizal colonization when no micronutrients were added. Mycorrhizal plants had lower Mn contents than non-mycorrhizal plants only at the highest soil micronutrient level. AMF increased total shoot Fe content when no micronutrients were added, but decreased shoot Fe when plants were grown at the high level of micronutrient addition. The effects of G. intraradices on Zn, Cu, Mn, and Fe uptake varied with micronutrient and P levels added to soil. Accepted: 27 December 1999  相似文献

Experiments were conducted on tomato to study the potential of brown alga Sargassum johnstonii as a biofertilizer. Seaweed extract was applied as a foliar spray, soil drench, and soil drench + foliar spray to assess its effect on plant growth, yield, and concentration of lycopene and vitamin C. The main objective of the study was to enhance the biochemical constituents with neutraceutical and antioxidant values in tomato fruit. Different concentrations (0.1%, 0.4%, 0.8%, 2%, 6%, 8%, and 10%; v/v) of seaweed extract were used and growth was observed over a period of 7 months. A total of 14 sprays/drenches were applied at 15-day intervals during the entire vegetative and reproductive phase. A statistically significant increase in vegetative growth (plant height, shoot length, root length, and number of branches), reproductive parameters (flower number, fruit number, and fresh weight), and biochemical constituents (photosynthetic pigments, proteins, total soluble sugars, reducing sugars, starch, phenols, lycopene, and vitamin C) was recorded following all three methods of treatment at higher concentrations of seaweed extract. The study also reports auxin- and cytokinin-like activity, and the presence of macro- (Ca, Mg, Na, and K) and micronutrients (Fe, Cu, Zn, and Mn), in seaweed extract of S. johnstonii, which makes it a potential biofertilizer.  相似文献

Grapevine N fertilization may affect and be affected by arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungal colonization and change berry composition. We studied the effects of different N fertilizers on AM fungal grapevine root colonization and sporulation, and on grapevine growth, nutrition, and berry composition, by conducting a 3.5-year pot study supplying grapevine plants with either urea, calcium nitrate, ammonium sulfate, or ammonium nitrate. We measured the percentage of AM fungal root colonization, AM fungal sporulation, grapevine shoot dry weight and number of leaves, nutrient composition (macro- and micronutrients), and grapevine berry soluble solids (total sugars or °Brix) and total acidity. Urea suppressed AM fungal root colonization and sporulation. Mycorrhizal grapevine plants had higher shoot dry weight and number of leaves than non-mycorrhizal and with a higher growth response with calcium nitrate as the N source. For the macronutrients P and K, and for the micronutrient B, leaf concentration was higher in mycorrhizal plants. Non-mycorrhizal plants had higher concentration of microelements Zn, Mn, Fe, and Cu than mycorrhizal. There were no differences in soluble solids (°Brix) in grapevine berries among mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizal plants. However, non-mycorrhizal grapevine berries had higher acid content with ammonium nitrate, although they did not have better N nutrition and vegetative growth.  相似文献

Severity of root rot (Rhizoctonia solani and Rhizoctonia bataticola) of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L.) was reduced by 42.7 and 42.0%, respectively over control following the application of 10 μg/g Mn as manganese sulphate. Reduction in disease incidence was associated with increased levels of polyphenol oxidase (PPO), peroxidase (PO) and total phenols. PO activity was several times more as compared with PPO‐specific activity and increased markedly after infection either with R. solani or R. bataticola. Contrary to PPO and PO, the specific activity of catalase declined sharply. Infection also caused an increase in the content of reducing sugars, Cu, Zn and Mn but a decrease in o‐dihydric phenols, flavanols, total soluble sugars, non‐reducing sugars and Fe contents. It is suggested that Mn at the rate of 10 μg/g soil can be used to manage the root rot of cowpea.  相似文献

Pot experiment was conducted to study the effect of biofertilizers (inoculation with different bacterial isolates), foliar spraying with some micronutrients (Mn, Zn, Fe and Mn+Zn+Fe) and their interaction on growth, physiological parameters and nutrients content of wheat plants grown on reclaimed soil. Pot experiment was conducted in the greenhouse of National Research center, The experimental design was split plot with four replicates. Four biofertilizer treatments (un‐inoculated, Bacillus polymyxa, Azotobacter chroococcum or Azosprillium barasilense) were used and randomly distributed in the main pots. The foliar treatments with micronutrients were randomly distributed in the sub plots. The growth parameters (plant height, leaf area, roots, shoots and whole plant dry weights and number of tillers & leaves per plant); some physiological parameters (soluble sugar %, protein %, polysaccharide %, chl. A+b μg cm?1 leaf per plant, carotenoids μg g?1, IAA mg kg?1 and psll mol DCPIP reduced per mg chl. per h) and nutrient contents (N, P, K, Mg, Mn, Zn and Cu) of wheat plants were significantly increased by inoculating wheat grains with different bacteria as compared with un‐inoculated plants (control). The highest values of all the mentioned parameters were obtained by using Azospirillum brasilense followed by Azotobacter chroococcum and Bacillus polymyxa in decreasing order. Foliar spraying treatments significantly increased the growth parameters, physiological parameters as well as nutrients content of wheat plants as compared with control. Highest values were obtained by using (Mn+Fe+Zn) treatment followed by Zn, Fe and Mn in decreasing order. Micronutrients in wheat plants differed as the foliar treatments were differed, so application of any micronutrient individually significantly increased its content and enhanced the content of other micronutrients in wheat. Interaction between the used biofertilizers and foliar spraying with micronutrients significantly affected all the studied parameters of wheat plants, the highest were obtained by inoculating wheat grains with Azospirillum brasilense and spraying the plants with (Mn+Fe+Zn) treatment, while the lowest values were attained by un‐inoculated grains (control) and spraying the wheat plants with tap water (control). Effective microorganisms in combination with micronutrients could be recommended to farmers to lead higher wheat yield.  相似文献

Summary Levels of extractable micronutrients in a peat and the growth and nutrient uptake of young highbush blueberry plants (Vaccinium corymbosum L cv. Blueray) were studied in a greenhouse experiment in response to liming and two rates of addition of Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu.Levels of extractable micronutrients showed different trends with liming depending upon the extractant used and the element being considered. Levels of 0.05M CaCl2-extractable Fe, Mn and Zn decreased as the pH was raised whilst those of Cu first decreased and then increased again. There was a general decline in 0.1M HCl-extractable Fe, Mn and Cu with increasing pH but levels of Zn were not greatly affected. Levels of 0.005M DTPA extractable Fe, Mn Zn and Cu generally declined but those extractable with 0.04M EDTA were either unaffected or increased as the pH was raised. Levels of CaCl2-extractable Mn and Zn were the same order of magnitude as those extractable with HCl, DTPA and EDTA. In contrast, the latter reagents extracted considerably more Fe and Cu than did CaCl2.Dry matter yields of plants were increased as the pH was raised from 3.9 to 4.3 but then decreased markedly as the pH was raised further to 6.7. With increasing pH, concentrations of plant Fe generally increased those of Mn were decreased and those of Zn and Cu were not greatly affected except for a marked decline in plant Cu at pH 6.7.  相似文献

Physiological and biochemical responses of open-pollinated ‘Roma’ and dwarf F1 hybrid ‘Patio’ tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) cultivars to in vitro induced salinity were examined in light of the possible contribution of ethylene to these symptoms. Salinity was induced by incorporating 0 (control), 50, 100, 150, or 200 mM NaCl into shoot culture media. Elevated salinity treatments significantly enhanced ethylene accumulation in the headspace and were accompanied by increased leaf epinasty in both cultivars. Growth, leaf cell sap osmolarity, leaf tissue viability and shoot soluble protein content were generally depressed with elevated salinity treatments, whereas electrolyte leakage, membrane injury, raffinose, and total sugars were concomitantly increased. Macronutrients N, P, K, Ca, Mg, and S decreased with elevated salinity in both cultivars and were accompanied by a significant increase in Na content and a sharp decrease in K/Na ratio. Tissue micronutrients, Fe, B, Zn, Mn, and Cu were generally decreased with elevated salinity especially at 100 mM or more. Incorporating ethylene inhibitors CoCl2 or NiCl2 at 5.0 or 10.0 mg/l into media supplemented with 100 mM NaCl significantly reduced ethylene accumulation in the headspace and prevented epinasty, but did not eliminate the negative impacts on growth and other physiological parameters caused by salinity treatment in either cultivar. Our results indicate that the increase in ethylene under salinity stress is not the primary factor contributing to salinity’s deleterious effect on tomato plant growth and physiology.  相似文献

Summary The effects of soil acidification and micronutrient addition on levels of extractable Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu in a soil, and on the growth and micronutrient uptake of young highbush blueberry plants (Vaccinium corymbosum L. cv. Blueray) was investigated in a greenhouse study.Levels of 0.05M CaCl2-extractable Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu increased as the pH was lowered from 7.0 to 3.8. However, the solubility (CaCl2-extractability) of Fe and Cu was considerably less pH-dependent than that of Mn and Zn. With the exception of HCl-and DTPA-extractable Mn, micronutrients extractable with 0.1M HCl, 0.005M DTPA and 0.04M EDTA were unaffected or raised only slightly as the pH was lowered from 6.0 to 3.8. Quantities of Mn and Zn extractable with CaCl2 were similar in magnitude to those extractable with HCl, DTPA and EDTA whilst, in contrast, the latter reagents extracted considerably more Cu and Fe than did CaCl2. A fractionation of soil Zn and Cu revealed that soil acidification resulted in an increase in the CaCl2- and pyrophosphate-extractable fractions and a smaller decrease in the oxalate-extractable fraction.Plant dry matter production increased consistently when the soil pH was lowered from 7.0 to 4.6 but there was a slight decline in dry matter as the pH was lowered to 3.8. Micronutrient additions had no influence on plant biomass although plant uptake was increased. As the pH was lowered, concentrations of plant Fe first decreased and then increased whilst those of Mn, and to a lesser extent Zn and Cu, increased markedly.  相似文献

Pot and field experiments carried out at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and at Fashola, Southwestern Nigeria, examined the effect of inoculation and N, P and micronutrients on nodulation and growth ofLeucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit. In pot studies all parameters measured, except the percentage of nitrogen in shoots, were improved by inoculation, nitrogen and phosphorus. Micronutrients increased only nitrogen and allantoin contents. Interactions between inoculation and P, N and micronutrients on nodulation and growth of leucaena were observed. The effect of inoculation and fertilization with phosphorus or micronutrients was further investigated in field experiments. Establishment of uninoculated and unfertilized leucaena was poor at both locations due to low soil fertility and the presence of only a few native leucaena rhizobia. At one site, only inoculated plants were nodulated, while at the other, all plants produced nodules. Shoot dry weight, total nitrogen and phosphorus of inoculated plants were statistically equal to nitrogen-fertilized plants. Uninoculated plants were stunted. Generally, micronutrients did not influence nodulation, total nitrogen or growth of leucaena. They had only a positive effect on nitrogenase activity. Phosphorus increased total nitrogen and phosphorus uptake and plant growth. A 75% increase in shoot dry weight was obtained when 80 kg P ha–1 was applied to inoculated leucaena with Rhizobium strain IRc 1045. Inoculated plants contained more allantoins than uninoculated ones but no significant correlation was found between these compounds and other parameters of N fixation.  相似文献

Although the physiological and molecular mechanisms of flower development and senescence have been extensively investigated, a whole-flower partitioning study of mineral concentrations has not been carried out. In this work, the distribution of sucrose, total reducing sugars, dry and fresh weight and macro and micronutrients were analysed in Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. petals, stylestigma including stamens and ovary at different developmental stages (bud, open and senescent flowers). Total reducing sugars showed the highest value in petals of bud flowers, then fell during the later stages of flower development whereas sucrose showed the highest value in petals of senescent flowers. In petals, nitrogen and phosphorus content increased during flower opening, then nitrogen level decreased in senescent flowers. The calcium, phosphorus and boron concentrations were highest in ovary tissues whatever the developmental stage. Overall, the data presented suggests that the high level of total reducing sugars prior the onset of flower opening contributes to support petal cells expansion, while the high amount of sucrose at the time of petal wilting may be viewed as a result of senescence. Furthermore, this study discusses how the accumulation of particular mineral nutrients can be considered in a tissue specific manner for the activation of processes directly connected with reproduction.  相似文献

This study aimed to investigate the effect of soil‐applied zinc (Zn) and manganese (Mn) rates on the development of aerial blight, caused by Rhizoctonia solani Kühn, in soybean. Plants (cv. ‘Conquista’) were grown in a typical Acrustox red‐yellow latosol amended with Zn rates (applied as ZnSO7H2O; 24% Zn) of 0, 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16 mg/dm3 of soil and Mn rates (applied as MnSOH2O; 36% Mn) of 0, 1.5, 3 and 6 mg/dm3 of soil and inoculated with R. solani. The relationship between Zn and Mn concentrations on leaf tissues and the rates of these micronutrients was linear. The incubation period was not affected by Zn and Mn rates. The relationship between application rates and the area under aerial blight progress curve was best described with a positive linear regression model for Zn and with a positive quadratic regression model for Mn. Results from this study showed that high foliar concentrations of Zn and Mn do not increase soybean resistance to aerial blight.  相似文献

Abstract

Mineral, complex and chelated micronutrient fertilisers are widely used in agriculture. However, there have been few studies on manganese and zinc fertilisers. In fact, specific chelating agents to provide these micronutrients to plants have not been found, in contrast to iron. This work considers the interactions of novel and traditional ligands in micronutrient mixtures used in hydroponics and fertigation. Theoretical speciation studies comparing the stability in solution have been carried out to simulate the possible interactions that can affect Fe, Mn and Zn in aqueous formulations containing these micronutrients. Unknown stability constants of ligands with Zn and Mn have been determined. Also, theoretical speciation investigations in hydroponic conditions have been carried out. It has been found that the new chelating agents, IDHA and EDDS, and the poorly studied o,p-EDDHA, can be good alternatives to the traditional sources such as EDTA, HEEDTA and DTPA principally for Zn fertilisers. The Mn and Zn chelates with o,p-EDDHA and complexes with lignosulfonate and gluconate have also shown high stability in a hydroponic nutrient solution, maintaining more than 80% Mn in solution until pH 10. The presence of o,o-EDDHA/Fe3+ and o,p-EDDHA/Fe3+ enhances the stability of Zn in solution in the mixed fertilisers. More studies with substrates are necessary to confirm these results and to extend them to other agronomic conditions.  相似文献

The effect of different vitamins and inorganic micronutrients on callus growth and the induction and proliferation of somatic embryos from young mature, fully expanded leaves of chilli pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) was investigated. Explants were cultured on a solid Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 8% (w/v) sucrose, 12.9 M 6-benzyladenine, 9 M 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 0.5 mg l–1 thiamin.HCl in various combinations of eleven different vitamins. Alternatively, explants were cultured onto a solid medium containing MS macro- and micronutrients except for the salts of Mn, Zn, I, Cu and Co which were added at either the standard MS concentration or at a tenfold increased (Cu, Co) or decreased (Mn, Zn, I) concentration. The results indicated that somatic embryogenesis from pepper leaves is favoured by the addition of nicotinic acid to the culture medium and the increase of copper concentration (an average induction of 70.2 globular embryos/mm2 of explant surface, 9.2% higher than control), without reducing embryo maturation and germination.  相似文献

The effect of copper (Cu), zinc (Zn) or manganese (Mn) deficiencyon the growth and activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) formswas investigated in seedlings of narrow-leafed lupins (LupinusangustifoliusL.). Plants grown without Zn developed Zn deficiencysymptoms 24 d after sowing (DAS), and those grown without Mnshowed Mn deficiency symptoms 31 DAS. However, plants grownwithout Cu did not show visible leaf symptoms. Shoot dry weightwas decreased by Zn and Mn deficiency 24 DAS, and by Cu deficiency31 DAS. Soluble protein concentration was reduced considerablyby Zn deficiency 24 DAS, but was not affected by Cu deficiencyuntil 31 DAS. In contrast, soluble protein concentration inMn-deficient plants was higher than in control plants 31 DAS.Shoot concentration of micronutrients which were not suppliedto plants decreased significantly, with a simultaneous increasein concentration of one or more of the other nutrients analysed. The activities of total SOD, MnSOD and Cu/ZnSOD on a fresh weightbasis declined drastically in -Cu and -Zn plants 24 DAS. Onthe contrary, the activities of total SOD and Cu/ZnSOD on eithera fresh weight or soluble protein basis increased markedly in-Mn plants 24 DAS, and MnSOD activity increased significantlyin these plants 31 DAS. It was concluded that micronutrientdeficiency (Cu, Zn or Mn) altered the activities of SOD formsdepending on the kind and severity of the deficiency stress.Manipulation of the capacity of plants to tolerate oxidativestress may influence their capacity to tolerate micronutrientdeficiency.Copyright 1999 Annals of Botany Company. Summary Slash pine seedlings on Bladen, Leon, and Lakeland soils responded differently to P and N fertilization. Seedling growth was increased by all treatments on Bladen soil, whereas responses by seedlings on the other soils were nil. All soils were low in extractable P with both Bladen and Lakeland yielding 0.85 ppm P. Growth response to fertilizer was positive on Bladen soil because soil and tissue levels of P were raised above “critical” levels and other nutrients were present in adequate quantities. Tissue analyses indicated, and subsequent experiments utilizing macro- and micronutrients proved, that excess P applications reduced certain micronutrients to growth-limiting levels on both Leon and Lakeland soils. Best growth on Leon soil occurred when P and N were supplemented with Cu. On the Lakeland soil macronutrients supplemented with Cu, Mn, or Zn produced greatest growth. Toxicity levels of five micronutrients on the latter soil also were determined. Journal Series No. 3506, Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, Gainesville. The metal micronutrients (MN) copper, iron, manganese, and zinc are transported via the phloem in the course of remobilization and circulation. The extent of these processes and transport species are still largely unknown. The Ricinus seedling was used to study the transport of these metal micronutrients as well as their interactions with the plant-endogenous chelator nicotianamine (NA) by daily measurements of the concentrations in the seedling parts and in the sieve tube sap obtained from a cut at the hypocotyl hook. The concentrations of these micronutrients in the phloem exudate decreased slightly from day 4 to day 8 of seedling development. Maximum values at day 4 were 65 μM for Zn, 63 μM for Fe, 27 μM for Cu, and 12 μM for Mn. The phloem transport rates reached maxima of 0.12 nmol cm?2h?1 for Zn and Fe at days 6 and 7, corresponding to the maximum exudation rates. The magnitude of these transport rates were in agreement with the net translocation rates estimated by analyses of the concentrations in the individual seedling parts. The NA content of the seedlings increased from day 0 (seed before sowing) until day 8, from 16 nmol to 474 nmol, which corresponds to an average net synthesis rate of about 100 nmol day?1 between the days 4 and 8. The NA:MN ratio was constant at 0.5 in the seedlings within this period. The NA concentrations and the sum of the concentrations of all four micronutrients in the sieve tube sap showed a constant ratio of 1.25 over the entire experimental period. Thus, both complex partners were subject to a cotransport in the phloem. Removal of the supplying endosperm led to a decrease in MN and NA concentrations in the sieve tube sap to about 80% while an average excess of NA of 1.1 was maintained. Since the concentrations of other amino acids, also possible chelators of metal micronutrients, fall to about 10% after removal of the endosperm, their role seems to be negligible as vehicles of MN transport in the phloem. Thus it is suggested that the divalent micronutrients considered in this study are loaded and maybe transported as NA complexes.  相似文献

Tissue micronutrient content (B, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Mo, Co) was compared in healthy and ill shoots of a rootless aquatic carnivorous plant Aldrovanda vesiculosa growing in an outdoor culture, in plants in the field, in different accessions from around the world, and in shoots and turions. On the basis of microelemental analyses, the observed disorder of shoot apices cannot be explained as deficiency of any of the above micronutrients.  相似文献

Seeds of pea (Pisum sativum L.) were germinated for four days over two sheets of filter paper moistened with H2O (control) and 5 mM Cd(NO3)2 or CuSO4 (treated). The relationship between heavy-metal stress and breakdown of storage compounds was studied. Germination rate and growth of radicle decreased, while the water content in stressed seeds remained around the control values. Cotyledons changed their biochemical constituents: disorders in the contents of micronutrients (Fe, Mn, Zn), free amino acids and soluble sugars were found. Decline of alpha-amylase activity as well as acid phosphatase were also observed, whereas beta-amylase and alkaline phosphatase ones were not modified by heavy-metal treatments. These results suggest that the inhibition of seed germinations after exposure to cadmium or copper is not the consequence of starvation in water uptake by seed tissues, but may be due to a failure in the reserve mobilization process from cotyledons.  相似文献

Most research on micronutrients in maize has focused on maize grown as a monocrop. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of intercropping on the concentrations of micronutrients in maize grain and their acquisition via the shoot. We conducted field experiments to investigate the effects of intercropping with turnip (Brassica campestris L.), faba bean (Vicia faba L.), chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.), and soybean (Glycine max L.) on the iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) concentrations in the grain and their acquisition via the above-ground shoots of maize (Zea mays L.). Compared with monocropped maize grain, the grain of maize intercropped with legumes showed lower concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn and lower values of their corresponding harvest indexes. The micronutrient concentrations and harvest indexes in grain of maize intercropped with turnip were the same as those in monocropped maize grain. Intercropping stimulated the above-ground maize shoot acquisition of Fe, Mn, Cu and Zn, when averaged over different phosphorus (P) application rates. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the effects of intercropping on micronutrient concentrations in maize grain and on micronutrients acquisition via maize shoots (straw+grain). The maize grain Fe and Cu concentrations, but not Mn and Zn concentrations, were negatively correlated with maize grain yields. The concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn in maize grain were positively correlated with their corresponding harvest indexes. The decreased Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn concentrations in grain of maize intercropped with legumes were attributed to reduced translocation of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn from vegetative tissues to grains. This may also be related to the delayed senescence of maize plants intercropped with legumes. We conclude that turnip/maize intercropping is beneficial to obtain high maize grain yield without decreased concentrations of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn in the grain. Further research is required to clarify the mechanisms underlying the changes in micronutrient concentrations in grain of intercropped maize.  相似文献
