The morphology of the reproductive system at different stages of ontogenesis and ultrastructural peculiarities of the copulatory organs and uterine in Monocercus arionis (Sibold, 1850) Villot, 1982 (Cyclophyllidea) have been studied. The muscle of the outer wall of the cirrus bag has a higher organizational level than typical smooth-muscle cells in cestodes. The cirrus is armed with typical filamentous and bladelike microtriches. The uterine epithelium contacts the thin capsule of the developing embryos located closely to the uterus wall, and the embryos contact each other in the uterine cavity in what can be interpreted as placental interactions. The specificity of the structure and arming of the copulatory apparatus has been considered, and the ultrastructural peculiarities of the uterus in the members of different orders of cestodes have been compared and analyzed.  相似文献

The components of the female reproductive system of Diphyllobothrium latum, including ovary, ovicapt, oviduct, vitelline ducts, vitelline reservoir, vagina, seminal receptacle, ootype with unicellular Mehlis's gland, ootype-uterine duct and uterus were observed with the electron microscope. The epithelium of the female reproductive system ducts consists of a nucleate syncytial layer. Structural differences in apical surface of the ducts, the number of nuclei and organoids in syncytial layer as well as the number of underlaid muscles were revealed. The regional differentiations of the uterus wall were registered. The middle and distal region of uterus was covered with microtriches. The filamentous microtriches were observed in apical surface of vagina. The epithelium of seminal receptacle and distal region of uterus were underlaided by the powerful muscle layers. The fertilization canal was revealed. It was shown that the formation of egg shells implemented by the deposit of vitelline globules in their surface in the ootype-uterine duct. Structural and functional differences of different parts of female apparatus in various groups of cestodes are conditioned by species biology.  相似文献

This study was performed to gain insight into the maturation of the reproductive system of Echinostoma paraensei worms grown in an early infection of Mesocricetus auratus. Hamsters were infected with 100 metacercariae and necropsied on days 3, 5, 7, 10 and 14 post infection (dpi). Recovered flukes stained with hydrochloric carmine were preserved as whole mounts and analyzed by light and confocal scanning laser microscopy. The average worm recovery was 43.7 per host. Images of the male and female reproductive systems were taken. The ovary and anterior and posterior testis were evidenced on day 3, while the ootype and cirrus sac were present on day 5. Confocal imaging showed primordium testis and ovary as a cluster of primordial cells from day 3 onward. The testes, ovary, cirrus sac and uterus organs were already present during the first week of life. The two testes were seen as individual structures on 7 dpi while the cirrus sac and vitelline glands were in development. The ovary was connected to the uterus while the ootype was adjacent to it. Both testes were larger than the ovary, showing cells at different stages of development, but with few bundles of functional spermatozoa in 10 day-old worms. On day 14, eggs and spermatozoa were seen in the uterus and seminal vesicle, respectively, while oocytes appeared in the ootype as fertilized eggs. We conclude that the reproductive system of E. paraensei was functional on 14 dpi in the hamsters.  相似文献

A new genus and species of nanophyetid,Baiohelmins elegans, is described from the intestine of the Australian water rat,Hydromys chrysogaster Geoffroy, 1804 in North Queensland. The new genus differs from previously described forms by the combination of the following characters: vitelline follicles restricted to a small group posterior to each testis, cirrus pouch present and caeca not extending posterior to the ventral sucker.  相似文献

Although the majority of onychophorans are viviparous or ovoviviparous, oviparity has been described in a number of species found exclusively in Australia and New Zealand. Light microscopy and scanning and transmission electron microscopy were used to examine developing eggs and the reproductive tract of the oviparous Planipapillus mundus. Deposited eggs and fully developed eggs dissected from the terminal end of the uteri have an outer thick, slightly opaque chorion, and an inner thin, transparent vitelline membrane. The chorion comprises an outermost extrachorion, sculptured with domes equally spaced over the surface; a middle exochorion, with pores occurring in a pattern of distribution equivalent to that of the domes of the extrachorion above; and an innermost, thick endochorion consisting of a spongelike reticulum of cavities comparable to the respiratory network found in insect eggs. The vitelline membrane lies beneath the chorion, from which it is separated by a fluid‐filled space. The vitelline membrane tightly invests the developing egg. Examination of oocytes in the ovary and developing eggs at various stages of passage through the uterus indicate that the majority of chorion deposition occurs in the midregion of the uterus, where vast networks of endoplasmic reticulum are present in the columnar epithelium. The vitelline membrane, however, is believed to begin its development as a primary egg membrane, surrounding the developing oocytes in the ovary. The vitelline membrane is transformed after fertilization, presumably by secretions from the anterior region of the uterus; hence, it should be more accurately referred to as a fertilization membrane. Aspects of the reproductive biology of P. mundus are also included. J. Morphol., 2008. © 2008 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.  相似文献

Two new species of Eurycestus Clark 1954 are described from the American avocet Recuruirostra americana Gmelin 1788. Eurycestus is a genus of disproportionately wide cestodes in which suckers and rostellum are apparently wanting and which have complete duplication of reproductive system in each segment. The new species E. falciformis and E. latissimus spp. nov. differ from E. avoceti Clark 1954; E. falciformis resembles E. avoceti as figured in Clark's (1954) plate I, E. latisrimus resembles E. avoceti as depicted in Clark's (1954) plate II, but the three species differ, the diagnostic characters being shape of the strobila, size of the cirrus-sac, number of testes and armature of the cirrus, the last mentioned being the most easily recognized constant differentiating character. E. latissimus measuring up to 33 mm broad, and less than 1 mm in length, has, in each side, 31–44 testes, a cirrus-sac 333–447 μm long by 45–47 μm in diameter and a cirrus with 14–16 longitudinal rows of strong rose-thorn-shaped spines, measuring 7 μm high; while E. falciformis, 12–20 mm wide by 1.7-2.4 mm long has, in each side, 27–35 testes, a cirrus-sac 355-320 μm long and 43-35 μm in diameter with a cirrus armed with 20–24 longitudinal rows of slender spines 4.5 μm long. In the holotype of E. avoceti the cirrus-sac measures 240–260 μm long by 55-51 μm in diameter and the cirrus is armed with over 40 longitudinal rows of minute spines 1.5-2 μm long. It also shows a reticulate uterus but the number of testes cannot be determined in it. A young avocet (R. auosetta) taken in the Camargue in the south of france was found by Baer (1968) to contain free, scolex-less strobilae which he identified as E. avoceti Clark in addition to separate scoleces embedded in the intestinal mucosa. He considered that the scoleces, dilepidid in type, belonged to the free strobilae, which if correct, adds to our knowledge of E. avoceti Clark and assigns this cestode to the Dilepidinae.  相似文献

Nomimoscolex guillermoi n. sp. and N. dechambrieri n. sp. are described from the gymnotiform fish Gymnotus carapo from Argentina. The new species are placed into Nomimoscolex based on the cortical position of the vitelline follicles, and medullary position of the testes, ovary, and uterus. Both species were compared to the 13 species considered valid in the genus. The combination of features distinguishing N. guillermoi from N. dechambrieri is (1) the position of the vagina to cirrus pouch (anterior or posterior vs always anterior respectively), (2) the total number of testes (41-85 vs 108-130 respectively), (3) the distribution of the vitelline follicles (arranged in dorso-lateral and ventro-lateral bands vs lateral bands respectively), (4) the length of the uteroduct (ending 58% vs 35% from posterior margin of mature proglottis respectively), and (5) the presence of gland cells in the scolex (unicellular glands in the apical region and the external margin of suckers vs the presence of unicellular glands in the apex and other grouped in a cluster medially to the suckers respectively).  相似文献

The reproductive system of the type specimens of Distoma macrostomum and D. ringens Rudolphi, 1819, has been reinvestigated. The shape and position of the cirrus, cirrus pouch, metraterm, "vesicula seminalis", gonads, vitellaria and uterus arrangements are given. This shows that the arrangement of the reproductive system in D. macrostomum (syn. D. ringens ) differs from that of the members of the genera Leucochloridium Carus, 1835 (sensu Kagan 1952) and Neoleucochloridium Kagan, 1951. It confirms as correct to place D. macrostomum as a separate genus, Urogonimus Monticelli, 1888.  相似文献

The cirrus pouch of Cylindrotaenia hickmani was examined by transmission electron microscopy. The cirrus pouch is a complex organ consisting of muscular, nervous and epithelial tissues. Muscles forming the cirrus pouch wall contain large myocytons that merge with myofibrils. Muscles supplying the gonadoducts within the pouch consist of small myocytons which are connected to associated myofibrils by elongate processes. Discrete neuromuscular junctions are commonly seen in both muscles. Two cells, thought to be neurons, are present in the pouch. The abundance of nervous tissue in the pouch is suggestive of a high level of neural control of the activity of that organ. The cirrus is lined by filamentous, hook-like and blade-like microtriches. Ciliated sensory receptors are found among the microtriches lining the cirrus. Epithelial cytons associated with proximal regions of the cirrus produce a material which is secreted from the syncytial cytoplasm of the cirrus. Intercellular junctions, resembling gap junctions, are common among the cells associated with the cirrus. The complexity of the cirrus pouch of C. hickmani suggests that this organ may prove valuable for studies on neuromuscular physiology and cellular interactions in cestodes.  相似文献

Tapeworms of the genus Paracaryophyllaeus Kulakovskaya, 1961 (Cestoda: Caryophyllidea) are specific parasites of loaches (Cypriniformes: Cobitoidea) and occur almost exclusively in the Palaearctic region. The only exception and example of vicariance over the borders of two zoogeographical regions is Paracaryophyllaeus lepidocephali (Kundu, 1985), an insufficiently known species described from the Indomalayan region, with uncertain generic allocation. In the present paper, the species is redescribed based on new material collected from the type host, Lepidocephalichthys guntea, in West Bengal, India. Molecular data reveal this species as a member of Paracaryophyllaeus, within which it is the most closely related to P. cf. gotoi from Misgurnus anguillicaudatus in China and Japan on the basis of large subunit of ribosomal nuclear DNA (28S rDNA). Generic position of P. lepidocephali examined herein is also confirmed by morphology including cross sections, in particular, by a small, cylindrical body, medullary testes with testicular fields crossing the anterior margin of the cirrus sac, medullary vitelline follicles, with some follicles paramuscular, a shallow common genital atrium, short vagina and uterus not extending anteriorly beyond the cirrus sac. It differs from all Palaearctic congeners but Paracaryophyllaeus vladkae Scholz, Oros and Aydogdu, 2014 by the testicular field crossing the anterior margin of the cirrus sac. It differs from P. vladkae by more anterior position of the first vitelline follicles compared to the first testes. This species is a unique example of a fish tapeworm crossing the borders of the Palaearctic and Indomalayan zoogeographical regions.  相似文献

Steganoderma szidati n. sp. is described from the intestine of two freshwater fishes, Galaxias maculatus and G. platei (Galaxiidae), from Andean lakes in Patagonia, Argentina. This freshwater zoogonid species fits in the genus Steganoderma (sensu Bray, 1987) because of the length of the caeca and the position of the vitelline follicles. The new species is characterised by possesing 6-13 vitelline follicles situated between the anterior margin of the ventral sucker and the poterior margin of the testis. The gonads are in the anterior hindbody and the ovary is anterior to the right testis. The cirrus has two conspicuous spines at its distal end, and the seminal vesicle always exhibits a constriction. The excretory vesicle never reaches the level of the posterior margin of the testes.  相似文献

A new species of Rhinebothrium inhabiting Dasyatis zugei is reported from the southeast coast of China. This is the first report of Rhinebothrium from D. zugei. It represents a new host and a new location. The new species resembles Rhinebothrium corymbum by having a V-shaped ovary. It differs in the fewer loculi and testes numbers, longer bothrium pedicel and cephalic peduncle, larger cirrus pouch and vitelline follicles, and an aspinose peduncle. Rhinebothrium xiamenensis differs from Rhinebothrium ezuti, Rhinebothrium walga, and Rhinebothrium hawaiiensis by having discrete vitelline follicles, fewer loculi, and ovarian shape.  相似文献

We studied the structural and cellular organisation of the oviduct of Erythrolamprus miliaris including its morphological variation during the reproductive cycle using light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Four anatomically distinct regions compose the oviduct of E. miliaris including the anterior and posterior infundibulum, glandular uterus, non-glandular uterus and pouch. The cells of the oviductal epithelium secrete material by apocrine and merocrine processes, which vary between the anatomical regions and according to each phase of the reproductive cycle. The infundibular epithelium secretes electron dense vacuoles, which suggests the production of lipids, whereas the epithelial secretion of the glandular uterus, non-glandular uterus and pouch creates lucent and slightly electron dense vacuoles, indicating the production of glycoproteins. The timing of mating, vitellogenesis and sperm storage directly influences the morphofunctional alterations in the oviducts of E. miliaris. Sperm storage occurs only in the infundibular receptacles with increased production of the neutral carbohydrates in the presence of male gametes. Sperm storage happens in vitellogenic, non-vitellogenic and pregnant females of E. miliaris. Thus, females may be able to produce multiple clutches at different seasons of the year regardless of mating during autumn.  相似文献

A new proteocephalidean cestode is described from spot pangasius, Pangasius larnaudii (Siluriformes: Pangasiidae), from Tonle Sap Lake in Cambodia and a new genus, Pangasiocestus , is proposed to accommodate it. The genus is placed in the Gangesiinae because its scolex possesses a large rostellum-like apical organ and its genital organs (testes, ovary, vitellarium, and uterus) are situated in the medulla, with some vitelline follicles paramuscular. Pangasiocestus romani n. gen. and n. sp., the type and only species of the new genus, is characterized mainly by its rosette-like scolex composed of 4 lobes bearing a small sucker in their center, and the apical part with a large, discoidal, rostellum-like apical organ devoid of hooks, by weakly developed inner longitudinal musculature formed by very few isolated muscle fibers, uneven size of testes in immature and mature proglottids, with lateral testes smaller and more dense than median ones, by very narrow lateral bands of vitelline follicles, formed usually by single follicles, and by the vagina anterior to the cirrus sac. This is the first proteocephalidean cestode from a pangasiid catfish identified to the species level (proteocephalidean cestodes from 3 Pangasius spp. reported in an unpublished account from Vietnam, misidentified as Proteocephalus osculatus (Goeze, 1782) [?= Glanitaenia osculata ], are not considered).  相似文献

Cestodes are reported from Didelphis albiventris Lund, 1840 and Micoureus cinereus Temminck, 1824 (Marsupialia: Didelphidae) in Argentina. These include a new species of Mathevotaenia Akhumyan, 1946 (Cestoda: Anoplocephalata) as well as M. bivittata (Janicki, 1904) and an unknown hymenolepidid cestode. Mathevotaenia argentinensis n. sp. is characterized by a relatively narrow strobila, 18-37 mm in total length and 1.0-1.5 mm in maximum width, 135-163 craspedote proglottids, 19-27 testes, and a muscular genital atrium. This species differs from M. didelphidis (Rudolphi, 1819) in the disposition of the genital ducts between the excretory canals and in the entrance of the vagina into the genital atrium posterior to the cirrus pouch; from M. paraguayae Schmidt and Martin, 1978 in the disposition of the genital ducts, absence of a seminal receptacle, and presence of an armed cirrus; and from M. boliviana Sawada and Harada, 1986 and M. pennsylvanica Chandler and Melvin, 1951 in the presence of an armed cirrus. Linstowiines appear to be the dominant cestodes in New World marsupials, with M. bivittata representing the most prevalent and widely distributed species. The hymenolepidid is the first record of this family in Neotropical marsupials.  相似文献

The proteocephalidean tapeworm Monticellia santafesina n. sp. is described from the siluriform catfish Megalonema platanum (Günther) (Siluriformes: Pimelodidae) in the Paraná River basin, Argentina. The new species is allocated to Monticellia La Rue, 1911 (Proteocephalidae: Monticelliinae) because of the cortical position of the testes, ovary, vitelline follicles and uterus, a globular scolex without a metascolex and uniloculate suckers. The new species differs from all other species of Monticellia (except for M. lenha Woodland, 1933) in possessing a vaginal canal opening anterior or posterior to the cirrus-sac. M. santafesina can be distinguished from M. lenha by the following characteristics: a larger body size; a weakly developed internal longitudinal musculature arranged in 15–35 slim bundles of muscle fibres; vitelline follicles not interrupted at the level of the cirrus-sac and vaginal canal, and with a few paramuscular and/or medullary follicles; the absence of large spinitriches on the anterior margin of the suckers; and the utilisation of Megalonema platanum (in the Paraná River basin) as its host, rather than Sorubimichthys planiceps (Spix & Agassiz) (in the River Amazon). Monticellia santafesina exhibits low values of prevalence (9%) and intensity of infection (1). Megalonema platanum was parasitised by two proteocephalidean cestodes, Rudolphiella cf. lobosa (Riggenbach, 1895) and the new species described in this paper.  相似文献

The authors describe and illustrate two hymenolepidid cestodes parasitising Himantopus melanurus (Aves) from Paraguay. Microsomacanthus kaulobatroni n. sp., 20–30 long × 0.6 mm wide, with 10 diorchoid hooks 33–38 µm long, three testes in a transverse row, short cirrus 20–28 µm long armed with very minute spines, a short vagina with a sphincter, and a multi-lobed ovary, with genital ducts similar to those of Hymenolepis himantopodis ( sensu Fuhrmann, 1906) but with rostellar hooks different from those of Tænia himantopodis Krabbe, 1869 sp. inq. Wardium neotropicale n. sp., 40-50 long x 0.9 mm wide, has campanulate proglottides, scolex with 10 aploparaksoid rostellar hooks 9 µm long, testes arranged in a triangle, a short cirrus pouch without a transverse retractor muscle, very short, unarmed cirrus, a short vagina with a sphincter (30–35 µm in diameter) but no retractor muscle, a multi-lobed ovary and a bipartite uterus. The shape of the hooks distinguishes this species from T. himantopodis Krabbe, 1869 and other aspects of its anatomy from other species of Wardium with hooks of a similar size. A single specimen of a third Hymenolepis (sensu lato) species (lacking the scolex) could not be identified.  相似文献
