Myxozoans are common parasites of fish kidneys, with most having specific sites of development. Five specific sites of development include (1) the lumen of renal tubules, (2) the renal corpuscles followed by location in renal tubules, (3) intracellular location within the tubular epithelium followed by a stage in the lumen of the ducts, (4) haematopoietic tissue with dispersed trophozoites, and (5) haematopoietic tissue with large, localized plasmodia. A coelozoic development preceded by presporogonic multiplication characterises most Sphaerospora spp. Early plasmodial stages of Myxidium and Chloromyxum spp. are frequently found in the renal glomerules, while spores develop in the urinary channels in plasmodia released from the renal corpuscles. In Hoferellus and Myxobilatus spp., spores are formed in small plasmodia inside the lumen of the urinary ducts after several internal cleavages in the epithelium of renal tubules. The presence of dispersed trophozoites among haematopoietic tissue cells of the renal interstitium characterises the development of Sphaerospora tincae and Tetracapsuloides bryosalmonae, the causative agent of proliferative kidney disease (PKD). Spores of S. tincae are formed at the place of plasmodial development, while spore formation of PKD is in the renal tubules. A large mass of spores, often surrounded by a connective tissue capsule, can appear in the renal interstitium during infections by several Myxobolus spp.; furthermore, a large number of these spores formed in plasmodia in distant tissues can also accumulate in melano-macrophage centres.  相似文献

Site preference of fish myxosporeans in the gill   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In addition to the morphological and size characteristics of the spores, indicating the exact location and tissue specificity is also essential for differentiation of the large number of species belonging to the group of gill-parasitic fish, the myxosporeans. According to the observations of the present author, Myxobolus, Henneguya and Thelohanellus species are characterised by strict tissue specificity, and species showing affinity to the epithelium, connective tissue, cartilage or vascular tissue usually occur in a strictly defined location within the gill apparatus. Some of the species typically form plasmodia in the lamellae of the gill and others in the gill filaments. Yet other species develop their plasmodia at the base of the gill filament or in the gill arch. Instead of the generally accepted but misleading terms 'intra-' and 'interlamellar', the present author distinguishes interlamellar-epithelial and intralamellar-vascular types in the case of plasmodia developing in the gill lamellae, and intrafilamental-epithelial, intrafilamental-vascular and intrafilamental-chondroidal types in the case of plasmodia developing in the gill filaments. Regarding site of development within the gill, the location of basifilamental plasmodia and that of plasmodia developing in the cartilaginous matrix, connective tissue or blood vessels of the gill arch are well distinguishable from the above types. The different types and their variations are shown in histological illustrations.  相似文献

The study aimed at evaluating the ascorbic acid (AA) concentrations in the liver and blood of the Mediterranean sea bream (Sparus aurata L.) after being fed Rovimix Stay C‐25 (RS C‐25) at three different levels (0, 200 and 800 mg kg?1 of AA) over 45 days. RS C‐25 is a mixture of equal parts of AA monophosphate, diphosphate and polyphosphate, containing a 25% AA equivalent. Increasing RS C‐25 levels in the diet yielded an increasing ascorbic acid content in the plasma and liver, showing a good sea bream utilization of this source of vitamin C. Dietary vitamin C did not affect the growth rate or feed efficiency during the 45‐day experiment. After 75 days, fish fed a vitamin C‐free diet displayed a severe depletion of AA in the liver.  相似文献

Ectoparasites have been investigated on gills of the ruff, perch, white bream, roach, bream, ide, and European cisco from the Pleshcheevo lake. 13 parasite species were found: Dactylogyrus falcatus, D. distinguendus, D. cornoides, D. cornu, D. sphyrna, D. robustus, D. amphibothrium, Ancyrocephalus paradoxus, Argulus foliaceus, Ergasilus sieboldi, Achtheres percarum, Ancyrocephalus percae, and Rhipidocotyle companula. A reliable negative correlation between the number of monogeneans An. paradoxus and the copepods Ac. percarum on the perch. D. falcatus, the specific monogenean of the bream, was found on the roach. The comparison of the obtained data with those of 1939 has shown the decrease of oxyphilic copepods E. seiboldi, that prove the increasing eutrophication.  相似文献

Conspicuous characters are often useful in species identification. Yet, identification and delineation are two different processes, and such characters do not necessarily provide the best basis on which species can be delineated. This is illustrated by the case of the Labeo with papillary lips from the Congo basin. Traditionally, species delineation in this group was based on a conspicuous trait: the shape of the dorsal fin, which shows a profound degree of differentiation. Morphometric analyses were performed on 185 specimens both with and without measurements taken on this fin. The groups obtained using these two approaches were compared with those obtained through DNA barcoding. For this, 24 sequences of the standard barcoding COI gene were obtained. Species delineations based on morphological and molecular results were in agreement when the shape of the dorsal fin was ignored. This suggested that of the five nominal species known from the Congo basin, L. altivelis, L. rosae, L. lineatus, L. weeksii and L. maleboensis, only the former three remain valid. Consequently, L. weeksii was synonymised with L. altivelis and L. maleboensis with L. lineatus. The sole Congo basin endemic is L. lineatus as L. altivelis and L. rosae also occur in more southern basins. The use of the shape of the dorsal fin in morphological studies has previously led to overestimates of species diversity in this group. This is due to the fact that L. altivelis shows a remarkable amount of geographical variation for this trait. The large amount of intra‐ and interspecific variation in this character was caused by differential allometric growth in different parts of the dorsal fin.  相似文献

Hemoglobin affinity to oxygen, Bohr effect, sodium, potassium, and magnesium ion concentrations of erythrocytes in the three fish species from Rybinsk Reservoir (golden carp Carassius auratus gibelio, bream Abramis brama and pike Esox lucius) immediately after catching and during acclimation to laboratory conditions were studied. Our own and literature data on some other fish species were analyzed. The relationship between the functional features of the hemoglobin and ionic environment was found, and the changes taking place during acclimation and interspecific differences of these indices were shown.  相似文献

In this work 437 fish samples of species belonging to the families Myctophidae (Electrona risso and Diaphus metopoclampus) and Phosichthyidae (Vinciguerria attenuata) were examined for the presence of Anisakidae larvae. The study was performed with fishes in the central Mediterranean Sea, particularly in the Strait of Sicily and in the Strait of Messina. The visual inspection and chloro-peptic analysis revealed the presence of nematode parasites with prevalence values between 2.9% in Electrona risso samples and 5.4% in Vinciguerria attenuata samples. A positive correlation was found between standard length (SL) and prevalence of infestation in D. metopoclampus samples (p < 0.05). The larvae examined were morphologically ascribed, at genus level, to Anisakis morphotypes I and II and molecularly identified as Anisakis pegreffii, Anisakis ziphidarum and Anisakis physeteris, in 67%, 9% and 24% of the fish samples examined. Overall, A. pegreffii and A. ziphidarum larvae were isolated in 14 and 2 specimens of D. metopoclampus respectively, A. physeteris larvae were found in 3 E. risso and 2 V. attenuata. A positive correlation was found between standard length and prevalence of infestation in D. metopoclampus samples (p < 0.05). First information is provided on the presence of Anisakis spp. larvae of the myctophid fish species E. risso, D. metopoclampus and V. attenuata from the Central Mediterranean. It is also confirmed the role of lanternfishes (Myctophidae) as paratenic hosts for Anisakis spp.  相似文献

Since its release in 2001 for the biological control of saltcedar (Tamarix spp., Tamaricaceae), the leaf beetle Diorhabda elongata (Brullé) from China and Kazakhstan, has become successfully established in many locations in the western United States. However, it failed to establish in the southern and western portions of the saltcedar infestation, creating the need to test additional populations of the beetle from other areas within its region of origin. The host specificity of seven Eurasian populations of D. elongata was evaluated by testing larval development and adult ovipositional preference on a variety of non-target agricultural, ornamental and native plants, with emphasis placed on native Frankenia spp. (Frankeniaceae), which were shown to be laboratory hosts in previous tests. No larvae survived on any of the non-target test plants except for Frankenia spp., where survival to the adult stage ranged between 15% and 92%, and was often not significantly different from survival on Tamarix controls. Adult Diorhabda from Crete laid significantly more eggs on Tamarix ramosissima Ledebour than on Frankenia spp. in a multiple-choice oviposition test but showed very little discrimination between Tamarix and Frankenia species in a no-choice test. In paired-choice tests, all seven Diorhabda populations laid significantly more eggs on T. ramosissima than Frankenia salina (Molina) I.M. Johnston. However, the percentage of total eggs laid on F. salina ranged from 0.8% to 15.7%, suggesting that some utilization of this native plant might occur in the field, despite the presence of a preferred host plant. Significant differences were found between some Diorhabda populations in the percent of total eggs laid on F. salina, indicating a variable degree of risk to these non-target plants.  相似文献

This study reports weight–length relationships (WLR) for Salmo trutta (Linnaeus, 1758), Phoxinus phoxinus (Linnaeus, 1758), Chondrostoma Chondrostoma miegii (Steindachner, 1866), Barbus graellsii (Steindachner, 1866), Barbatula barbatula (Linnaeus, 1758) and Gobio gobio (Linnaeus, 1758). Specimens were collected by electrofishing during summer between 1996 and 1998. The b values in the WLR W = aLb varied between 2.97 and 3.42. To the best knowledge of the authors, this study presents the first reference on WLRs for four of the species in Spanish waters.  相似文献

Allelopathy is an untapped resource for weed control in crops that could give good possibilities for environmentally sound, integrated crop production. Allelopathy is defined as the direct or indirect harmful or beneficial effects of one plant on another through the production of chemical compounds, called allelochemicals, which escape into the environment. Allelochemicals can be produced by weeds and affect crops, and the reverse is also true. Allelopathic interactions include weed-weed, weed-crop, and crop-crop. Allelopathy offers potential for selective biological weed control for instance weed-suppressing crops and the use of plant residues in cropping systems, allelopathic rotational crops, or companion plants with allelopathic potential. Bromus species occur in many habitats in temperate regions of the world, including America, Eurasia, Australia, and Africa. The genus Lolium is one of the most important forage grasses. The weed species usually grow in the same production zones as wheat and are considered weeds since they parasitize wheat fields. Some of the weed species in these two genus have been reported to have allelopathic effect. One of the methods that has been successful in studying allelopathic activity are bioassays. Laboratory experiments were conducted to determine allelopathic effect of watery shoot extracts of four weed species of the Poaceae family, namely Bromus rigidus, Bromus diandrus, Lolium multiflorum and Lolium temulentum on germination and growth of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.), corn (Zea mays L), perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.), bean (Phaseolus sp.) and sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) and on each other. The experiment was carried out during the period March 2010 to October 2010. Twenty five seeds were put into one Petri-dish on filter paper, adding 15ml of extract to each in four repeats. The germination took place in a Binder-type thermostat in the dark. The timing of germination was checked in every two days and the rate of growth was estimated after a week, by counting the number of germinated seeds and measuring the length of the radicle and plumule. The measured data was statistically analyzed and the effect of the extracts on germination percentage and seedling length was evaluated.  相似文献

In this review some important myxosporean species of fish are depicted and described, with special reference to Myxobolus cerebralis (causing whirling disease of salmonids), Sphaerospora renicola (causing Swimbladder inflammation of common carp), Hoferellus carassii (causing kidney enlargement disease of goldfish and proliferative kidney disease [PKD] of salmonids). Detailed information on the life cycles of M. cerebralis, M. cotti, and M. pavlovskii is presented proving that these myxosporeans develop in an intermediate host, the oligochaete worm, Tubifex tubifex to actinosporeans which represent the only infective stage for susceptible fish. These findings imply that the present taxonomy for the phylum Myxozoa has to be revised. Trends for treatment of myxosporean associated diseases are summarized with special emphasis on the antibiotic Fumagillin DCH.  相似文献

In fish of the family Cyprinidae extensive polymorphism and heterogeneity of serum transferrins were found. Ten variants of transferrins were detected in barbel, 9 in dace and bleak, 7 in chub and bream, 6 in rudd, 5 in roach, white bream, silver carp, big head and crucian carp, 3 in tench, and 2 variants in nase, ide and goldfish. All the variants observed bound radioactive iron. The phenotype patterns indicated a simple genetic determination, by a set of codominant alleles at one locus, and this even in tetraploid species. Transferrins of some species were partly isolated. The transferrins of all 22 species analysed were heterogeneous and homozygous pheno-types had 1 to 6 zones of various intensities, binding 59Fe. In barbel both single-zone and two-zone variants were present and transferrins of roach had variable heterogeneity. Sialic acid was found only in transferrins of silver carp, big head and in the two-zone variants of barbel. The occurrence of phenotypes with single and double zones of transferrins in barbel indicates the possibility of genetic determination of the inability of single-zone variants to bind sialic acid.  相似文献

The toxicity of rotenone was determined for seven species of fish and three species of invertebrates. The results show that there is a marked variation in sensitivity of different species to rotenone. The survival times of roach Rutilus rutilus (L.) were reduced by a rise in temperature and also by a reduction in water hardness. Temperature affected the rate at which rotenone is degraded; 3 days after being prepared a solution containing 2 mg/1 of 5 % rotenone was non-toxic to roach over a 7-day period at 20°C, but it was still toxic for at least 11 days at 11.5°C. The data are discussed in relation to the use of rotenone in fisheries management.  相似文献

Despite the commercial and zoonotic importance of larval anisakid infestations of teleosts, their distribution among Australia's diverse marine fish fauna is poorly understood. A preliminary survey of Australia's tropical north-west revealed a generally high prevalence of larval anisakids representing four genera (Anisakis, Terranova, Thynnascaris and Raphidascaris) among only seven fish species. The potential impact of high larval anisakid infections on both the health of recreational fishermen and aquaculture environments is discussed.  相似文献

DNA-based studies have been one of the major interests in conservation biology of endangered species and in population genetics. As species and population genetic assessment requires a source of biological material, the sampling strategy can be overcome by non-destructive procedures for DNA isolation. An improved method for obtaining DNA from fish fins and scales with the use of an extraction buffer containing urea and further DNA purification with phenol-chloroform is described. The methodology combines the benefits of a non-destructive DNA sampling and its high efficiency. In addition, comparisons with other methodologies for isolating DNA from fish demonstrated that the present procedure also becomes a very attractive alternative to obtain large amounts of high-quality DNA for use in different molecular analyses. The DNA samples, isolated from different fish species, have been successfully used on random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) experiments, as well as on amplification of specific ribosomal and mitochondrial DNA sequences. The present DNA extraction procedure represents an alternative for population approaches and genetic studies on rare or endangered taxa.  相似文献

Quantitative estimations of spring migrating fish have been made in the mouth part of the small coastal river Ängerån which flows into the northern Bothnian Sea (63°35N, 19°50E). In 1981 nearly 3 000 fish were counted ascending to the spawning grounds in the lower reaches of the Ängerån. These species, such as pike, perch, roach and ide, adapted to the oligohaline environment in the Bothnian Sea for most of the year, migrate to spawn in the coastal stream. The reason for these migrations can be interpreted to indicate that the Ängerån offers more favourable water temperature conditions at spawning time compared with the Bothnian Sea, which is ice-covered up to the beginning of May. The most important result of the investigation in the Ängerån is that these fish species, in the same way as the salmonids, return to theirhome-stream every year as adults.Andreasson & Petersson (1982) listed 69 species of fish in the oligohaline Gulf of Bothnia (Table 1) where salinity varies from 2 near the mouth of the River Torneäly to 6 in the vicinity of the Åland Islands (Fig. 1). The fish fauna comprises freshwater and marine species, fish migrating between brackish and freshwater rivers and streams, and recently introduced non-endogenous species.Andreasson & Petersson (1982) designated only five species as anadromous migrators, whereas our studies show that 11 species migrate from the sea to spawn in the Ängerån, a small river discharging into the northern Bothnian Sea (Fig. 2). Earlier reports on these migrations have been given by Berglund (1978) and Johnson (1978, 1982) and for another small stream in the area by Berg (1982).The present paper describes the annual spring migrations of pike, perch, roach and ide between the northern Bothnian Sea and the Ängerån, for the year 1981.  相似文献
