An analysis of the karyotypes of Dugesia japonica japonica Ichikawa et Kawakatsu, 1964, from 30 localities of seven river systems in Ôsaka Prefecture, Central Japan, revealed a total of 26 karyotypes of which 12 are new-found varieties. More than two karyotypes were found in many localities. The mixoaneuploidic triploid karyotype showed the widest distribution (21 localities), orthoploidic diploid karyotype and orthoploidic mixoploid of diploid and triploid karyotype were next (13 localities, respectively), and other karyotypes (triploidic aneuploid, orthoploidic triploid and mixoploid of triploid & tetraploid) were also found. Some correlation of karyotype with elevation was also detected.  相似文献

We investigated the genetic variation of Avicennia germinans using 172 AFLP (Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism) bands of 45 plants from four localities on the Colombian Pacific coast: 11 from Virudó (Chocó), 10 from La Plata (Valle), 12 from Tumaco (Nariño), and 12 from Chontal (Nariño). AFLP variation among localities (16.2%) was highly significant (AMOVA; P < 0.0001). All the analyses showed that Tumaco was the most genetically distinct locality of the four under study. The other three localities, La Plata, Virudó, and Chontal, apparently form a large single subpopulation with high‐to‐moderate gene flow among localities. We also found the genetic diversity of A. germinans on the Colombian Pacific coast (HE= 0.251) higher than that estimated by others over the broad geographic range of A. germinans. All these results together show that mangroves on the Colombian Pacific coast deserve a strong investigative effort to improve our ecological, evolutionary, and biogeographic knowledge of this important tropical forest type.  相似文献

Abstract

Obsidian is the third most abundant lithic material in the protohistoric assemblage from the Edwards I (34Bk2)site in southwest Oklahoma. Chemical analysis of this material has identified the Jemez Mountains in northern New Mexico and the San Francisco Mountains in northern Arizona as the primary and secondary sources, respectivel.

These materials as well as various pottery types and other goods were probably obtained through the pueblos o Pecos and Picuris. Because more specific information concerning this protohistoric exchange system may be linke with specific obsidian source localities in the Jemez Mountains, some of the more important elements for charac erizing this source system are presented. Iron (Fe), cerium (Ce), zirconium (Zr), niobium (Nb), yttrium (Y). an possibly rubidium (Rb) may be the most useful for defining specific source localities in this system. Rather the using absolute concentrations to define these localities, we advocate the use of ratios. In addition, future studies of the Jemez Mountains obsidian sources must utilize a regional approach to better characterize the different localities.  相似文献

We conducted spotlight counts from 1992 to 2006 in 59 localities to describe carnivore presence, distribution and relative abundance in open agriculture lands in Aragon, northeastern Spain. During the study period, urban waste and carcases of domestic livestock became less available to wild animals, and rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) abundance was low after rabbit haemorragic disease. We calculated a kilometric abundance index (KAI, individuals seen per 100 km surveyed) and the ratio between the number of positive localities in which a species was detected and the total of localities surveyed in a year. Indices to abundance and presence included: red fox (Vulpes vulpes), KAI per 100 km 10.70 and 100.0% localities per year; stray dog (Canis familiaris), KAI 0.48 and 22.6% localities; wildcat (Felis silvestris), KAI 0.10 and 19.1% localities; domestic cat (Felis catus), KAI 0.21 and 20.6% localities; polecat (Mustela putorius), KAI 0.02 and 2.0% localities; badger (Meles meles), KAI 0.16 and 23.6% localities; stone marten (Martes foina), KAI 0.11 and 19.6% localities; weasel (Mustela nivalis), KAI 0.002 and 0.6% localities; and genet (Genetta genetta), KAI 0.06 and 10.0% localities. Indices of badger abundance increased significantly, whereas indices of stray dogs decreased significantly over the study period. Abundance indices of red fox, the most important predator of small game, were stable throughout the study period. No significant trend was observed to other studied species. This study concludes that Aragon region maintains a diverse and rather stable carnivore community and shows that large scale data may help to identify trends of the more abundant wild and feral carnivores.  相似文献

Gemma gemma is a small ovoviviparous bivalve distributed in shallow sand flats along the North American Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts. Genetic variation in G. gemma was analysed by means of Inter-Simple Sequence Repeats (ISSRs) at the following levels: (i) between localities (Maine and Virginia), (ii) among 10-m-diameter patches within localities, and (iii) within patches. Thirty individuals/patch and three patches/locality were analysed. Individuals were genotyped for 67 ISSR polymorphic loci from five primers. The portion of the genetic variation found between localities (2%) was small compared to that found either among patches within localities (37%) or within patches (61%). ISSRs in G. gemma allowed the detection of significant differentiation at individual and patch levels. By contrast, a low degree of genetic variability was found between localities. The small-scale genetic heterogeneity does not follow a simple, consistent pattern. Our results contrast with the generally accepted rule that aplanic species are locally homogeneous and globally heterogeneous and teleplanic species are the inverse.  相似文献

Several new fossiliferous Pliocene localities have been identified in the continental deposits of the area of Tollo de Chiclana (Guadix Basin, SE Spain), that have yielded a rich rodent and insectivore fauna. In this paper, we study the Arvicolidae from these localities. Remains adscribed to the genera Dolomys, Mimomys and Kislangia have been found, which are very interesting from a biostratigraphical point of view.  相似文献

Specimens of the larger Neogene porcupines, generally allocated toHystrix primigenia (Wagner, 1848), from 17 localities are studied, and their taxonomic status is recon-sidered. Material from one of these localities has recently been described asHystrix depereti Sen, 2001. The diagnoses of both species are revised. Tooth size and crown height are considered diagnostic characters at the species level. As a resuit, specimens from eight localities are allocated toH. primigenia, from eight other localities toH. depereti, and from one locality toHystrix sp. indet. The level of specialisation of the cranial morphology of these fossil species is compared withH. refossa Gervais, 1852 and with extant species. Diagnostic characters ofH. aryanensis SEN, 2001 and ofH. zhengi van Weers & Zhang, 1999, are discussed.  相似文献

The water lily beetle Galerucella nymphaeae L. (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) exploits different hosts, including Nuphar lutea Sm. and Nymphaea alba L. (both Nymphaeaceae), as well as Polygonum amphibium L. and Rumex hydrolapathum Hudson (both Polygonaceae). The present study investigates whether within-species differences in morphological and reproductive traits are associated with differences in host species exploitation. A total of 1103 adult beetles were collected from 11 localities in The Netherlands, one of which contained all four hosts and three other localities contained hosts from both families (sympatric localities). Adults originating from Nuphar and Nymphaea were on average darker in colour and larger in size and had disproportionally bigger mandibles than beetles originating from Polygonum and Rumex across the 11 localities. Head capsules of first instar larvae from Nymphaeaceae hosts were between 17% and 28% larger than those of larvae from Polygonaceae hosts. Furthermore, beetles from Nuphar and Nymphaea laid larger sized eggs, but fewer eggs per clutch than beetles originating from Polygonum and Rumex. Although host related variation was less pronounced at the sympatric localities than in the allopatric localities, differences in larval and adult size were still highly significant at the sympatric localities. It is not clear whether the observed differences are genetically based, as opposed to host induced. However, leaf toughness varied among species in a way suggesting that leaf toughness may be partly responsible for host related differences in G. nymphaeae.  相似文献

Pupal and larval-pupal parasitoids were obtained from 5 % of the 1,413 tephritid puparia collected in four localities of the Tucumán province, Argentina, from April, 1991 to April, 1993.Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) was attacked byPachycrepoideus vindemmiae (Rondani) (Pteromalidae), a pupal parasitoid, andAganaspis pelleranoi (Brèthes) (Eucoilidae), a larval parasitoid.Anastrepha spp. were attacked byDoryctobracon areolatus (Szépligeti) (Braconidae), a larval parasitoid, and also byA. pelleranoi. Information about parasitism, percentage of emergence of tephritid species and pupal viability in different localities is provided.  相似文献

A total of 2,868 individuals of 47 species of chaetodontids were examined for faustulids at seven major localities in the Tropical Indo-West Pacific (TIWP). Combined morphological and molecular analyses allowed us to describe Paradiscogaster oxleyi n. sp. from three localities in the TIWP and in three host species, Chaetodon lunulatus Quoy & Gaimard (type-host), C. ornatissimus Cuvier and C. meyeri Bloch & Schneider. Molecular analysis of the ITS2 region of rDNA from two host species and three localities supports the morphology-based conclusion that P. oxleyi n. sp. is the same species at the three localities. Paradiscogaster flindersi Bray, Cribb & Barker, 1994 is reported from three new localities in the TIWP and is now known from 13 chaetodontid species. Sequences from samples consistent with P. flindersi differed from those from P. oxleyi n. sp. in 11–12 base pairs. The host ranges of the two species overlap broadly. Neither species was found in French Polynesia but both were found at Swain Reefs on the Great Barrier Reef. Only one of the two species was found at each of the five other sites. Both species occur almost exclusively in specialist corallivores allowing the inference that the metacercariae occur in corals. Finally, a key to the species of Paradiscogaster is provided.  相似文献

Lists were made of the vascular plant species associated with Hierochloë australis (5 localities), H. odorata ssp. odorata (79 localities), H. odorata ssp. baltica (20 localities), H. hirta ssp. hirta (17 localities), H. hirta ssp. arctica (53 localities) and H. alpina ssp. alpina (5 localities). The localities were classified by the TABORD computer program to produce phytosociological tables. An ordination of localities and of selected species was also made using the ORDINA program. Significant groups of species were distinguished by using Fisher's exact test of probability. All the H. australis localities were in mixed forests. In general, the natural habitats of H. odorata spp. odorata are fens and grasslands in the mountains and on the seashores of Scandinavia, those of H. odorata ssp. baltica are on brackish-water shores of the Baltic, those of H. hirta ssp. hirta on sandy or gravelly river banks and lake-shores, and those of H. hirta ssp. arctica are on fens and grasslands in the northern boreal forests. These latter four taxa occur, in addition, in various anthropogenic, or semi-natural, disturbed and/or unstable habitats. Their scattered occurrence in S Scandinavia and C Europe is probably more related to sporadic long-distance dispersal, than to their being glacial relicts. The natural habitats of H. alpina ssp. alpina are exposed mountain heaths. It is suggested that H. odorata ssp. odorata, and possibly H. alpina ssp. alpina, survived the last glaciation in refugia off the Norwegian coast, and that H. odorata ssp. baltica and H. hirta ssp. hirta may have arisen by polyploidy within Scandinavia during the Post-glacial period. H. hirta ssp. arctica probably immigrated into Scandinavia from the east during the Post-glacial and H. australis from the south. The results are considered in relation to the views previously expressed in the literature and the analytic techniques used are discussed. This work has been supported by grants from the University of Lund, for which I am duly grateful.  相似文献

Thermoregulation in ectotherms may be modulated by climatic variability across geographic gradients. Environmental temperature varies along latitudinal clines resulting in heterogeneous thermal resource availability, which generally induces ectotherms to use compensatory mechanisms to thermoregulate. Lizards can accommodate to ambient temperature changes through a combination of adaptive evolution and behavioral and physiological plasticity. We studied the thermal ecology of the endangered endemic lizard Liolaemus multimaculatus at six different sites distributed from the northern to southern areas of the distribution (700 km) in the Atlantic dune barriers of Argentina, and even including the borders areas of the distribution range. Environmental temperatures and relative humidity showed a strong contrast between northern and southern limits of the distribution range. The northern localities had operative temperatures (Te) above the range of preferred temperatures (Tset), instead, the southern localities had large proportion of Tes within the Tset. Although these different climatic conditions may constrain the thermal biology of L. multimaculatus, individuals from all localities maintained relatively similar field body temperatures (XTb = 34.07 ± 3.02 °C), suggesting that this parameter is conservative. Thermal preference partially reflected latitudinal temperature gradient, since lizards from the two southernmost localities showed the lowest Tsel and Tset. Thermoregulatory efficiency differed among localities, since E values in the northern localities (E = 0.53–0.69) showed less variability than those of southern localities (E = 0.14–0.67). Although L. multimaculatus employed a strategy of having a conservative Tb and being able to acclimatize the thermal preference to copes with latitudinal changes in the thermal environment, other local factors, such as ecological interactions, may also impose limitations to thermoregulation and this may interfered in the interpretation of results at wider spatial scale.  相似文献

Ploidy levels inEmpetrum (crowberry) from the Czech Republic and from one adjacent locality in Poland were estimated by flow cytometry to examine cytotype distribution patterns at large (within the country), medium (within mountain ranges) and small (within particular localities) spatial scales. Diploid, triploid, and tetraploid individuals were found. Triploids are reported from Central Europe for the first time; they occurred in the Krkono?e Mts. Exclusively diploid plants were observed in three mountain ranges (the Kru?né hory Mts., Labské pískovce Mts., Adr?pa?sko-Teplické skály Mts.), exclusively tetraploids were observed in the Jeseníky Mts., and both cytotypes were observed in the ?umava Mts., Jizerské hory Mts. and Krkono?e Mts. Except for the latter mountain range, diploids and tetraploids were always found in different habitats. Spatial isolation is supposed to be the main barrier preventing cytotype mating. A mosaic-like sympatric occurrence of different cytotypes was demonstrated in the Krkono?e Mts., where peat bogs and rocky places were not spatially separated. Eight of 11 localities studied there were inhabited by diploids and tetraploids (five localities), diploids and triploids (one locality) or all three ploidy levels (two localities). Diploid and triploid plants occasionally intermingled at 0.3 × 0.3 m. Flower sex in crowberries was strongly associated with ploidy level: diploids usually had unisexual flowers, the tetraploids bore exclusively bisexual flowers. However, a few diploid plants with hermaphrodite flowers occurred in one population in the Krkono?e Mts.  相似文献

An invasive alien species, the harlequin ladybird Harmonia axyridis (Pallas, 1773), has quickly expanded its distribution in Eastern Europe. Records of H. axyridis from 31 localities in Lithuania, Latvia, the Ukraine, European Russia, and the Northern Caucasus are summarized and mapped. Within the last few years this species has established in south Latvia, on the Baltic Sea shore (Kaliningrad oblast and Lithuania), in the western and central Ukraine, Crimea, and in the Northern Caucasus. Besides that, individual specimens have been found in 4 more localities in European Russia. The species is recorded from Lipetsk oblast (European Russia), Crimea, and Nikolaev oblast (the Ukraine) for the first time.  相似文献

We investigated the genetic diversity and structure of Aechmea winkleri Reitz, an endemic bromeliad found in Southern Brazilian Atlantic rainforest. Seven nuclear microsatellite markers were used to analyze 162 samples from four localities sampled throughout the entire geographic distribution of the species. Results indicate relatively high levels of genetic diversity with an average of allelic richness of 3.57, and observed and expected heterozygosity of 0.559 and 0.608, respectively. The within-inbreeding coefficient was low, ranging from −0.011 to 0.094. All localities significantly deviated from Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium with three of them showing heterozygosites deficiency. Most of the genetic variation (96.64%) was found within localities. No reduction in population size (bottleneck) was detected. Low levels of genetic differentiation among localities were found with pairwise FST comparisons varying from 0.021 to 0.075. Bayesian analyses revealed that A. winkleri is composed by two genetic groups. The number of migrants per generation was high (>1), which maintain localities' cohesion and gene flow. Despite genetic erosion was not detected in the present study, our results revealed that the four localities sampled actually represent one population, the only known so far in nature. Management strategies for A. winkleri conservation should be undertaken as it is an endemic species which occurs in a biome that has gone through major deforestation and fragmentation. This would avoid the increase of inbreeding rates and the loss of genetic diversity.  相似文献

SUMMARY

The plasma proteins of Cyprinus carpio (carp), Barbus holubi (yellowfish), Labeo umbratus (mudfish) and Labeo capensis (mudfish) were electrophoretically separated on polyacrylamide gels from blood samples obtained from specimens sampled during summer and winter in three different localities. Within a species, differences existed in the summer and winter plasma protein electrophoretograms from the different localities. During winter protein fraction concentration differences were found with a displacement of prominence. The results are compared between different experimental conditions and to previous observations. A genetic trait is present, but there were also alterations as a result of environmental factors.  相似文献

The current trend in marine parasitology research, particularly in South Africa, is to focus on a specific parasite taxon and not on the total parasite community of a specific fish host. However, these records do not always reveal the ecological role of parasites in ecosystems. Thus, the present study aimed to determine which factors influence the parasite community composition of the endemic southern African intertidal klipfish, Clinus superciliosus (n = 75). Metazoan parasites were sampled from four localities (two commercial harbours - west coast; and two relatively pristine localities - southeast coast) along the South African coast. A total of 75 klipfish were examined for parasites, where 30 distinct taxa, representing seven taxonomic groups were found: Acanthocephala (4 taxa), Cestoda (2 taxa), Crustacea (5 taxa), Digenea (11 taxa), Hirudinea (2 taxa), Monogenea (1 taxon) and Nematoda (5 taxa). Results indicated that the main driver of diversity was locality, with the highest diversity on the southeast coast, most likely due to higher water temperatures and upwelling compared to the west coast. The parasite community composition of the klipfish was significantly influenced by water temperature and parasite life cycle. These results emphasise the importance of parasitological surveys including all parasite taxa in hosts from multiple localities and seasons, to better comprehend their ecological role.  相似文献

Host range expansion is an important event in the evolution of host use in phytophagous insects. Herein, we report geographic variation of host use in the chrysomelid leaf beetle, Agelasa nigriceps Motschulsky (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), and suggest that this beetle is expanding its host range. This beetle has been recently recorded on Pterostyrax hispidus Sieb. et Zucc. (Styracaceae) in addition to its common host plant Actinidia arguta (Sieb. et Zucc.) Planch. ex Miq. (Actinidiaceae). The A. arguta‐associated populations were widely found in Japan, whereas the P. hispidus‐associated populations were found only in central and southwestern Japan. In the present study, we examined adult feeding behavior and larval performance of 12 A. nigriceps populations collected from eight localities, four localities where beetles occurred only on A. arguta (allopatric localities) and four localities where A. arguta‐ and P. hispidus‐associated populations occurred sympatrically (sympatric localities). Beetles of all populations, irrespective of their host plants and localities, showed high acceptance of and high larval performance on A. arguta leaves. In contrast, we found considerable variation in the beetle response to P. hispidus leaves. The A. arguta‐associated populations of allopatric localities scarcely accepted P. hispidus leaves, whereas those of sympatric localities, particularly those of P. hispidus‐associated populations, accepted and grew on P. hispidus leaves, although the degree of acceptance and larval performance varied among localities. These results strongly suggest that A. arguta is the ancestral host for A. nigriceps, and host range expansion to the P. hispidus has occurred in this beetle.  相似文献

Isozyme and haemoglobin analysis has shown that the cod, Gadus morhua L., in the NE Atlantic can be regarded as two populations: Arctic and coastal cod. One hundred and one individual cod from nine different locations were sampled and restriction fragment analysis uncovered 14 different mtDNA clones. Calculation of sequence divergence between localities displayed large divergence between samples from coastal and Arctic areas (l.77–5.62%), as opposed to the low intrapopulation divergence (∼0.10%) and the divergence between localities along the coast (∼0.17%) and in the Barents Sea (∼ 1.00%).  相似文献
