In laboratory experiments, the growth characteristics of the submerged species Elodea nuttallii (Planch.) St. John and Potamogeton crispus L. were assessed in the presence and absence of floating mats of Azolla filiculoides Lam. and Lemna minuta Kunth. Light penetration and the development of pH and dissolved oxygen differences were monitored. The growth of P. crispus was suppressed much more than that of E. nuttallii and the effects of A. filiculoides were more severe than those of L. minuta. Findings are related to possible field responses of submerged plants under floating mats, especially their abilities to compensate for the potential suppressive effects of floating mats under natural conditions.  相似文献

Little Mere (Cheshire) is a small (2.7 ha) and shallow (average depth 0.7 m) fertile lake in Cheshire, UK. Nymphaeids cover almost 40 % of its entire surface during the growing season (April to October) and practically all the rest is covered by a mixed community of submerged plants. The lake was intensively sampled for plant-associated Cladocera and zooplankters from April 1998-April 2000. Samples were collected at five sites across the lake, three of them located within lily beds, the other two over submerged plant beds of mixed composition. Specific sampling techniques were developed for floating lily leaves, petioles, submerged plants and water. Significant horizontal differences were identified for most cladoceran species, both open-water and plant-associated, for chydorid periphyton scrapers and for filter-feeders. Daphnia hyalina (L.) and Ceriodaphnia sp were significantly more abundant in lily beds than in more open water in both growing seasons, suggesting lily beds are an effective refuge against fish predation. Size-structure and egg-ratio data support this contention. Egg-ratio models were examined for Daphnia hyalina and Simocephalus vetulus (O.F. Müller), a plant-associated cladoceran. The fertility of S. vetulus in lily beds was generally high throughout growing seasons. The construction of egg-ratio models for this species was hampered by their generally very patchy distributions.  相似文献

溶氧是水环境中一个重要的环境因子,为了探讨水中的溶氧含量水平是否会对陆生植物的耐淹能力造成影响,研究了陆生植物喜旱莲子草(Alternanthera philoxeroides)和牛鞭草(Hemarthria altissima)在遭受不同溶氧含量水体完全淹没后的生长表现、存活情况和非结构碳水化合物的变化。实验结果表明:(1)水体中的溶氧含量显著影响了处于完全水淹环境中的喜旱莲子草和牛鞭草的存活。受高溶氧水体完全水淹的喜旱莲子草和牛鞭草主茎的完好程度和存活叶的数量均显著高于遭受低溶氧水体完全水淹的喜旱莲子草和牛鞭草,喜旱莲子草和牛鞭草在高溶氧水体完全水淹后的生物量比低溶氧水体完全水淹后要高;(2)水体中的溶氧含量显著影响了处于完全水淹环境中的喜旱莲子草和牛鞭草的生长,受高溶氧水体完全水淹的喜旱莲子草主茎伸长生长和不定根生长显著强于受低溶氧水体完全水淹的喜旱莲子草,在不定根的生长上牛鞭草也具有同样的表现。(3)高溶氧水环境有利于减小被完全淹没的喜旱莲子草和牛鞭草的碳水化合物消耗,两种植物在受高溶氧完全水淹后体内具有的非结构性碳水化合物含量均比受低溶氧完全水淹后高。(4)喜旱莲子草比牛鞭草能更好地耐受完全水淹,当处于低溶氧完全水淹时表现得更为明显,本研究表明入侵物种喜旱莲子草比本地物种牛鞭草具有更强的环境适应能力和水淹耐受能力。  相似文献

Cabomba aquatica has been found for the first time in India. Both, submerged and floating leaves are epistomatic. The stomata are anomocytic and perigenous in their development. The metaxylem vessel elements have simple perforation plates and spiral side wall thickening. Vessel elements are found in roots, rhizomes and aerial stems. The ability of Najas marina L. to thrive in the presence of the submerged hydrophytes (Myriophyllum spicatum L. and Potamogeton lucens L.) and of an emerged hygrophyte (Scirpus litoralis Schard.) was investigated in Tel Aviv, Israel. Najas plants were unaffected by the presence of Potamogeton lucens and Scirpus litoralis, but were significantly suppressed by Myriophyllum. Bilateral negative relationships exist between Najas and Myriophyllum and these seem to be of an allelophatic nature, depending more on the nature of the accompanying species rather than on their mass.  相似文献

Lovastatin, a hypocholesterolemic agent, is a secondary metabolite produced by filamentous microorganism Aspergillus terreus in submerged batch cultivation. Lovastatin production by pellets and immobilized siran cells was investigated in an airlift reactor. The process was carried out by submerged cultivation in continuous mode with the objective of increasing productivity using pellet and siran supported growth of A terreus. The continuous mode of fermentation improves the rate of lovastatin production. The effect of dilution rate and aeration rate were studied in continuous culture. The optimum dilution rate for pellet was 0.02 h−1 and for siran carrier was 0.025 h−1. Lovastatin productivity using immobilized siran carrier (0.0255 g/L/h) was found to be greater than pellets (0.022 g/L/h). The productivity by both modes of fermentation was found higher than that of batch process which suggests that continuous cultivation is a promising strategy for lovastatin production.  相似文献

Floating marshes occur over 70% of the western Terrebonne Basin, Louisiana, USA, freshwater coastal wetlands. They are of several types: A free-floating thick-mat (45–60 cm) marsh dominated by Panicum hemitomon and Sagittaria lancifolia; a thick mat marsh dominated by Panicum hemitomon and Sagittaria lancifolia that floats part of the year, but whose vertical floating range is damped compared to adjacent water; and an irregularly-floating thin mat (< 30 cm) dominated by Eleocharis spp. in the spring and Ludwigia leptocarpa and Bidens laevis in the summer and fall. Floating mats must be almost entirely organic in order to be buoyant enough to float. The western Terrebonne wetlands receive large winter/spring supplies of suspended sediments from the Atchafalaya River. Even though sediment concentrations in the adjacent bayou are as high as 100 mg l–1, the Panicum hemitomon/Sagittaria lancifolia free-floating marsh probably receives no over-surface sediments since it floats continuously. The bulk density data of the damped-floating marsh, however, suggest some mineral sediment input, probably during winter when this marsh is submerged. These two types of floating marsh could not have developed in the present sediment regime of the Atchafalaya River, but as long as they remain floating can continue to exist. Thin floating mats are found in areas receiving the least sediment (<20 mg 1–1 suspended sediment concentration in adjacent bayous). This low sediment environment probably made possible their formation within the past 20 years. They may represent a transitional stage in mat succession from (1) existing thick-mat floating marsh to a degrading floating marsh, or (2) a floating marsh developing in shallow open water.Corresponding editor: D. Low levels of vesicular arbuscular mycorrhizae were present in floating mats dominated by clones of Typha angustifolia L., T. x glauca Godr., and T. latifolia L. Floating mats composed of rhizomes (underwater-ground stems with high starch accumulation), roots, decaying organic matter, and wind deposited soil, easily supported human activities. The majority of roots isolated from the root cores were connected to Typha rhizomes. Tests employing the gridline intersect method, intensity, spore counts and most probable number (MPN) were used to define the level of colonization. Mycorrhizal colonization from the T. angustifolia and T. x glauca clones averaged 4 to 5%, while the T. latifolia clone averaged 13%. When colonization was encountered, intensities varied from a high of 3.0 to a low of 0.4 on a sclae of 0 to 4. Although arbuscules were not found, abundant hyphae, vesicles and spores indicated that presumed facultative associations occurred between the vesicular arbuscular fungi and the indicated that presumed facultative associations plant communities found on floating mats. The mycorrhizal fungi identified from these communities in cluded Glomus albidum Walker & Rhodes, G. caledonium (Nicol. & Gerd.) Trappe & Gerdemann, G. etunicatum Becker & Gerdemann, and G. microcarpum Tul. & Tul. Spore counts ranged from 16 to 76 spores per gram dried organic soil. The recolonization ability of VAM propagules by way of a most probable number bioassay with maize yielded numbers that ranged from zero to 96 propagules per gram soil, with G. etunicatum the only species recovered.  相似文献

Two emulsions and two water-based-formulations of freeze dried submerged spores of Metarhiziumanisopliae var. acridum (Metch.) Sorokin(isolate IMI 330189) were compared with aerialconidia (GREEN MUSCLETM) for their efficacyagainst Hieroglyphus daganensis (Krauss)and Locusta migratoria (R. & F.). Thefield experiments were conducted in East Nigeron H. daganensis whereas the laboratoryinvestigations were carried out in Germanyusing L. migratoria. In the fields, allformulations were applied on one hectare plotsusing ULV application techniques. Direct andresidual spray effects were assessed. In allcases there were highly significant (p < 0.001) differences between formulations asregards to total mortalities and mediansurvival times (MST). In both direct and sprayresidue effect assessments, aerial conidiaformulated in diesel oil showed over 95%mortality with significantly shorter MST (3 to8 days) under field conditions. These werefollowed by emulsions of submerged spores,which resulted in a mortality ranging from 56to 92% (MST = 8 to 16 days) for the directspray and 90 to 97% (MST = 7 to 12 days) forspray residue effect assessments. Experimentsin the laboratory positively confirmed theseresults. There were no apparent differencesbetween water-based formulations and thecontrol with respect to mortality and MST.These results emphasize the importance ofemploying oil carriers to protect spores fromenvironmental stress and thus enhance efficacy.The study also demonstrated the importance ofsecondary spore pick up from the sprayresidues. Spores in all formulations persistedover five days and caused mortalities rangingfrom 62 to 100% on healthy grasshoppersexposed to the spray residue from treatedvegetation. The results of this researchsuggest that emulsions may be an effectiveoption to improve efficacy of submerged sporesfor ultra low volume application under Sahelianconditions.  相似文献

Submergence induces rapid elongation of internodes in floating rice(Oryza sativa L. cv. Habiganj Aman II). The initial signalfor such internodal elongation has been considered to be the reduced partialpressure of oxygen in submerged internodal cavities, which promotes theelongation of internodes through the enhancement of ethylene synthesis. Weexamined the relationship between low oxygen pressure and ethylene production inthe rapid elongation of floating rice internodes using ethylene biosynthesisinhibitors, aminooxyacetic acid (AOA) and CoCl2. When floating ricestem segments were incubated in an atmosphere of low O2, internodalelongation accelerated and ethylene production increased. However, in stemsegments treated with AOA or CoCl2, low O2 stillstimulated the elongation of internodes although the ethylene production by theinternodes was less than by those in control stem segments where internodalelongation was not promoted. These results indicate that low O2 iscapable of causing rapid elongation of internodes of floating rice independentlyof enhanced production of ethylene. In addition to low O2,submergence, ethylene and gibberellic acid each enhanced the production ofethylene by internodal tissues, suggesting that enhanced ethylene production isa common phenomenon accompanied by the acceleration of internodal elongation infloating rice.  相似文献

Biofilms are a major source of human pathogenic Legionella pneumophila in aquatic systems. In this study, we investigated the capacity of L. pneumophila to colonize floating biofilms and the impact of Acanthamoeba castellanii on the replication of biofilm-associated Legionella. Biofilms were grown in Petri dishes and consisted of Aeromonas hydrophila, Escherichia coli, Flavobacterium breve, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Six hours following inoculation, Legionella were detected in floating biofilms in mean concentrations of 1.4 × 104 cells/cm2 (real-time polymerase chain reaction) and 8.3 × 102 CFU/cm2 (culture). Two-way analysis of variance tests and fluorescent in situ hybridization clearly proved that increased biofilm-associated L. pneumophila concentrations were the result of intracellular replication in A. castellanii. Forty-eight hours after the introduction of A. castellanii in the Petri dishes, 90 ± 0.8% of the amoebae (infection rate) were completely filled with highly metabolic active L. pneumophila (mean infection intensity).  相似文献

在水淹环境中,喜旱莲子草水面上未受淹的茎段常表现出增粗膨大的现象。遭受水淹的植物被淹没的组织和器官会面临氧气缺乏和能量供应不足的问题。植物体内碳水化合物的运输需要消耗能量,当因水淹而使植株被部分淹没(即地下部分全部和地上部分的一部分被淹没)时,由于水淹缺氧导致能量供应不足,碳水化合物在植物被淹组织内的运输可能受限从而在水面上的未淹茎段中积累并对未淹茎段的径向形态产生影响。为探究水淹环境中喜旱莲子草未受淹茎段增粗膨大是否与碳水化合物积累有关,对茎被水淹和茎不受水淹的喜旱莲子草进行对比研究,结果发现:(1)水淹的喜旱莲子草位于水面上的未淹茎段节间平均直径显著大于水面下受淹茎段节间平均直径,未淹茎段与受淹茎段相比发生显著的膨大现象;未水淹的喜旱莲子草其茎的上部茎段节间平均直径与下部茎段节间平均直径相比并无显著差异,上部茎段也无明显膨大现象。(2)水淹的喜旱莲子草位于水面上的未淹茎段碳水化合物含量显著高于未水淹的喜旱莲子草对应茎段的碳水化合物含量。本研究表明,水淹胁迫下喜旱莲子草位于水面上的未受淹茎段中碳水化合物发生积累,导致植株位于水面上的未受淹茎段发生与物理环割后类似的茎膨大现象。  相似文献

In a field experiment the chlorophyll (a+b) (SPAD readings) and nitrogen contents of three grass species (Festuca arundinacea Schreb., Lolium perenne L., and Lolium multiflorum Lam.) and three intergeneric hybrids of Festuca pratensis Huds. × Lolium multiflorum Lam. and Festuca arundinacea Schreb. × Lolium multiflorum Lam. were measured. Close relationships were found between SPAD readings and nitrogen leaf content (r 2 = 0.873** 0.491** and 0.938**) for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd cut, respectively. SPAD readings and N contents were closely correlated (r = 0.836**) confirming that SPAD measurements could be used in grass selection and/or breeding for high N concentration in herbage. Parasitism ofLygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois) eggs by three species ofMymaridae, Anaphes iole Girault,Erythmelus miridiphagus Dozier andPolynema pratensiphagum Walley and one species ofScelionidae, Telenomus sp., was investigated at Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Québec. The maximum level of field parasitism ofL. lineolaris eggs by individual species was 15.4, 53.8, 70.0 and 16,7%, respectively. Parasitoids were retrieved from eggs ofL. lineolaris inserted in stems and branches ofAmaranthus retroflexus L.,Chenopodium album L.,Coronilla varia L.,Rumex obtusifolius L. andSolanum tuberosum L. Amaranthus retroflexus andS. tuberosum sustained a large population ofL. lineolaris and egg parasitism was high enough to consider it as a potential control factor.   相似文献

In excised stem segments of floating rice (Oryza sativa L.), as well as in intact plants, submergence greatly stimulates the elongation of internodes. The differences in the composition of cell wall polysaccharides along the highest internodes of submerged and air-grown stem segments were examined. The newly elongated parts of internodes that had been submerged for two days contained considerably less cellulosic and noncellulosic polysaccharides than air-grown internodes, an indication that the cell walls of the newly elongated parts of submerged internodes are extremely thin. In the young parts of both air-grown and submerged internodes, the relative amounts of noncellulosic polysaccharides were equal to those of -cellulose, whereas the relative amounts of -cellulose were higher than those of noncellulosic polysaccharides in the upper, old parts. In the cell-elongation zones of both air-grown and submerged internodes, glucose was predominant among the noncellulosic neutral sugars of cell wall. The relative amount of glucose in noncellulosic neutral sugars decreased toward the upper, old parts of internodes, whereas that of xylose increased.  相似文献

L. sativa L. cultivars were compared morphologically with accessions ofL. saligna L.,L. serriola L., andL. virosa L. in order to define the infra- and interspecific variation. Multivariate analysis (principal component analysis) distinguished four groups corresponding with the four species. Infraspecific variation (e.g., colour, leaf shape) withinL. sativa is the largest, because breeding has caused a large variation in vegetative features; infraspecific variation withinL. serriola is also large. Three plants of one accession were placed betweenL. sativa andL. serriola because they showed morphological characteristics of both species. They are still classified asL. sativa. The morphological differences betweenL. sativa andL. serriola are too large to consider these two as one species. The descent of the cultivar groups and the four species is described.  相似文献

采用盆栽试验方法,分别设置0(对照,不添加镉)、30、60、90、120、150、180、210mg·kg-1共8个土壤镉处理水平,研究土壤不同镉水平对马缨丹(Lantana comara L.)生长及其抗氧化酶活性的影响,以探讨马缨丹对镉胁迫的生理响应机制。结果显示:(1)随着土壤镉处理浓度的升高,马缨丹干重呈先升高后降低的趋势,30mg·kg-1镉处理能促进植株的生长,而浓度高于60mg·kg-1时显著抑制马缨丹的生长。(2)马缨丹叶片和根系中O-·2产生速率、H2O2和MDA含量及电解质渗漏率均随土壤镉处理浓度的升高和胁迫时间的延长逐渐升高,胁迫90d时,叶片和根系中O-·2产生速率、H2O2和MDA含量及电解质渗漏率分别在镉浓度高于60和30mg·kg-1时显著低于对照。(3)叶片和根系抗氧化酶SOD、POD、APX和CAT活性随着土壤镉处理浓度的增加大体呈先升高后降低的趋势,并在镉浓度分别高于90和60mg·kg-1时,叶片和根系抗氧化酶活性显著低于对照。研究表明,低浓度镉处理土壤能促进马缨丹植株生长,而高浓度镉处理土壤显著降低了马缨丹体内抗氧化酶活性,导致活性氧大量积累,引起严重的膜脂过氧化伤害,从而显著抑制马缨丹植株的生长。  相似文献

The effects of chromosome doubling on macromolecular composition, i.e. DNA, RNA and protein, were examined in diploidCochlearia pyrenaica DC., its established natural autotetraploidC. officinalis L., and their newly colchicine-induced autotetraploid and autooctoploid derivatives. DNA, RNA and protein contents increase from lower to higher ploidy levels (2x > 4x > 8x). The established natural autotetraploids and newly induced autotetraploids also differ, as DNA, RNA and protein have been reduced during the course of establishment. Net synthesis of RNA and protein per unit DNA does not change significantly neither from lower to higher ploidy levels nor between the autotetraploids of newly induced and established natural origins.  相似文献

Synechocystis sp. PCC 6701 has a brilliantly colored pigment, phycobiliprotein containing phycoerythrin. Culture medium was optimized by sequential designs in order to maximize phycobiliprotein production. The observed fresh weights after 6 days were 0.58 g/L in BG-11, 0.83 g/L in medium for Scenedesmus sp. and 0.03∼0.52 g/L in the other tested media. Medium for Scenedesmus sp. was selected to be optimized by fractional factorial design and central composite design since the medium maintained a more stable pH within a desirable range due to higher contents of phosphate. The fractional factorial design had seven factors with two levels: KNO3, NaNO3, NaH2PO4, Na2HPO4, Ca(NO3)2, FeEDTA, and MgSO4. From the result of fractional factorial design, nitrate and phosphate were identified as significant factors. A central composite design was then applied with four variables at five levels each: nitrate, phosphate, pH, and light intensity. Parameters such as fresh weight and phycobiliprotein contents were used to determine the optimum value of the four variables. The proposed optimum media contains 0.88 g/L of nitrate, 0.32 g/L of phosphate under 25 μE·m−2·s−1 of light intensity. The maximum phycobiliprotein contents have been increased over 400%, from 4.9 to 25.9 mg/L after optimization.  相似文献

The floating fern,Salvinia molesta Mitch., underwent explosive growth following the creation of Lake Kariba in 1958. By 1962 this aquatic weed covered 22% of the Lake's surface but later declined to an apparently stable level of 10–15%. Coverage declined again in 1973 to 5% and by 1980 only about 1% of the lake was covered bySalvinia. This paper discusses the ecological context in which this decline took place and the role of the introduced neotropical grasshopper,Paulinia acuminata De Geer. This insect appears to have made a major contribution towards the decline ofSalvinia, but it is suggested that its effect was greatly enhanced by nutrient stress onSalvinia because of competition for nutrients between the floating weed and other ecosystem components. Nutrient supply to Lake Kariba is limited and the increasing requirements of submerged macrophyte, mussel and fish populations, which are all expanding probably reduced nutrient availability toSalvinia. Mussels and fish, with standing crops of 167 000t and 30 000t, respectively, are seen as particularly important nutrient reservoirs. It is concluded that the decline ofSalvinia in Kariba was part of the lake's maturation process and could possibly have occurred without the introduction ofPaulinia, but at a much slower rate.  相似文献
