The present study was investigated for soil bioremediation through sababul plant biomass (Leucaena leucocephala). The soil contaminated with textile effluent was collected from Erode (chithode) area. Various physico-chemical characterizations like N, P, and K and electrical conductivity were assessed on both control and dye contaminated soils before and after remediation. Sababul (L. leucocephala) powder used as plant biomass for remediation was a tool for textile dye removal using basic synthetic dyes by column packing and eluting. The concentration of the dye eluted was compared with its original concentration of dye and were analyzed by using UV–vis spectrophotometer. Sababul plant biomass was analyzed for its physico-chemical properties and active compounds were detected by GC–MS, HPTLC and FTIR. Plant growth was assessed with green gram on the textile contaminated soil and sababul had the potential of adsorbing the dye as the contaminated soil and also check the growth of green gram.  相似文献

An endophagous seed predator, Acanthoscelides macrophthalmus (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae: Bruchinae), utilizes Neotropical Leucaena (Fabaceae: Mimosoideae). One of its hosts, Leucaena leucocephala , is a fast-growing nitrogen-fixing tree that serves as a multipurpose beneficial plant but eventually becomes an aggressive invader where it was introduced. Herein, we report A. macrophthalmus invasion of the Far East, South Asian tropics and subtropics (Japanese Pacific Islands, Taiwan, Southern China, Northern Thailand and Southern India). Of other field-collected mimosoid legumes, an introduced tree, Falcataria moluccana , in Taiwan was found to be used by the seed predator. Conversely, our published work review revealed that the seed predator had retained high host specificity to Leucaena species in its native and introduced regions. Acanthoscelides macrophthalmus was able to utilize aphagously postharvest mature seeds for oviposition and larval development, which is a trait of post-dispersal seed predators. We confirmed that A. macrophthalmus that was reared on L. leucocephala was able to utilize F. moluccana as well. Although the relatively high host specificity of the oligophagous beetle is suitable for controlling the weedy L. leucocephala , the potential host range expansion confirmed by this study must be cautioned.  相似文献

隐蔽入侵(cryptic invasion)是指在形态上与土著种(或早期建群种)不能或难以区分的外来种在人们未觉察的状态下成功入侵的过程。人们对这类入侵方式往往视而不觉。本文综述了外来种隐蔽入侵的类型以及生态影响。隐蔽入侵的类型主要包括外来姊妹种形式的隐蔽入侵、 不同遗传支系的隐蔽入侵、 不同地理种群的隐蔽入侵以及“返传入”。其中, “返传入”目前还是一种假说。由于这类入侵外来种更容易与土著种(或早期建群种)杂交或基因渗透, 因而可对入侵种自身或土著种产生深远的生态影响。鉴于隐蔽入侵现象的广泛性, 建议进一步加强该方面的研究。  相似文献

Twenty-three provenances of Gliricidia sepium and eleven isolines of Leucaena leucocephala were examined at a low and at high phosphate levels (20 and 80 mg P kg-1 soil) for growth, phosphate (P) uptake and use efficiency. Large differences in growth at the low P level, and in growth response to the higher P rate occurred among L. leucocephala isolines and G. sepium provenances. Shoot dry weight at low P varied from 1.30 to 3.01 g plant-1 for L. leucocephala and from 1.44 to 3.07 g plant-1 for G. sepium.Leucaena isolines had only half the root weight of G. sepium provenances yet produced approximately 90% of the shoot weight of the corresponding G. sepium treatments, i.e. more than a 2-fold difference in root/shoot ratios. Total P in shoots of G. sepium was some 85% greater than of the respective L. leucocephala isolines in corresponding treatments. Physiological phosphate use efficiency (g shoot/mg P in shoots) (PPUE) was not a simple reciprocal relation, being markedly lower at higher shoot % P and content. However, for the same shoot P both species produced the same shoot weight. Nevertheless, there were apparent genotypic differences within species in the root development, shoot P and PPUE.In another study, the numbers of rhizobia in the rhizosphere of L. leucocephala, nodulation, N2 fixation at five different levels of P were determined. The numbers of rhizobia in the rhizosphere of inoculated L. leucocephala during the first two weeks were lower when P was added but later became similar to those without added P. Nodules formed earlier than inoculated plants fertilized with P and in greater numbers (4- to 5-fold) and dry weights than in those without P. However, the percentage of N2 derived from fixation did not change with increasing levels of P application. These results suggest that the observed P effect did not operate via stimulated growth of rhizobia in the rhizosphere, nor through increased N2 fixation rate. The major effect appeared to be due to effects via plant growth.  相似文献

Abstract The intensity of seed predation the invasive tropical legume Leucaena leucocephala by the bruchid Acanthoscelides macropthalmus was investigated in south‐eastern Queensland, Australia. The number of seeds damaged by A. macropthalmus as a proportion of total seeds available was found to increase the longer the pods remained on the tree. Seed predation ranged from a mean of 10.75% of seeds on pods that remained on the plant for 1 month and increased to 53.54% for pods that remained of the plant for 4 months. The low bruchid populations at high pod densities results in ‘predator satiation’. However, pods dehisce over time and the proportion of pods available over time to the bruchid correspondingly declines. By the time bruchid densities build up, most pods have dehisced and the seeds consequently escape predation. As a result the number of seeds lost to bruchid damage increases only marginally over time. Despite the levels of seed predation observed over the course of the study, the number of seeds in the soil seedbank almost doubled over time increasing from 8.5 seeds m?3 to 15.5 seeds m?3 over a 4‐month period. Levels of seed predation and addition of seeds to the soil seedbank were not correlated. The taxonomic (subspecies) status and apparency of host plants as measured by plant and patch traits (average plant height, density of podding plants and patch size) did not influence levels of seed predation. Pre‐dispersal seed predation studies need to take into account the pod/seed retention behaviour of the plant. The ability of the bruchid to regulate the invasiveness of Leucaena through influencing its demography is likely to be diminished if the insect populations cannot increase rapidly enough to use the seeds before pod dehiscence.  相似文献

A protocol for hardening of microprogated plants of Leucaena leucocephala in vitro is described which ensures up to 85% survival of plants following their transfer to pots or garden beds. Morpho-physiological studies confirm the earlier reports that cultured plants have poor control of water loss. Their leaves had very little epicuticular wax and lacked starch grains in their cells. Interestingly, the leaf cells at the shoot multiplication stage appeared normal. Reduction in their size and abnormality of shape appeared first during the rooting stage in vitro. During hardening the appearance of starch grains preceded the normalization of mesophyll cells.  相似文献

Climate change and landscape fragmentation are considered to be the main treats to biodiversity. In this study, probable alteration of future species distribution was tested based on the association of landscape fragmentation and climate change scenarios compared to the classical approach that assumed an unchanged landscape. Also, projected range shifts including realistic dispersal scenarios were compared with classical models, in which no or full dispersal has been supposed.A GIS-based cellular automata model, MigClim, was implemented to projection of future distribution over the 21st century for three plant species in a study area of the central Germany. For each species, simulations were run for four dispersal scenarios (full dispersal, no dispersal, realistic dispersal, and realistic dispersal with long-distance dispersal events), two landscape fragmentation (static and dynamic change) and two climate change (RCP4.5 and RCP8.5) scenarios. In this research, temporal satellite data were utilized to simulate landscape changes by the use of a hybrid (CA-Markov) model for the years 2020, 2040, 2060 and 2080.A significant difference appears to be between the simulations of realistic dispersal limitations and those considering full or no dispersal for projected future distributions. Although simulations accounting for dispersal limitations produced, for our study area, results that were closer to no dispersal than to full dispersal. Additionally, our results revealed that change in landscape fragmentation is more effective than the climate change impacts on species distributions in this study.  相似文献

Summary Leucaena leucocephala generally produces pods with more than 7–9 seeds. This is regulated by the stigmatic inhibition of pollen grain germination when the pollen grains are less than a critical number in the stigma. This number-dependent inhibition of pollen grain germination is effected by a pH-dependent proteinaceous inhibitor active at the stigmatic pH. Only when the pollen grains in the stigma exceed the critical number, they inactivate the inhibitor by collectively raising the stigmatic pH and thus overcoming the inhibition. The adaptive significance of such pre-fertilization mechanism for the female in inciting mate competition among the pollen grains is discussed. The evolution of en masse pollen grain dispersal units is explained as a sexual selection strategy by males in response to such stigmatic inhibition by females.  相似文献

Wildfires are the main cause of forest disturbance in the boreal forest of Canada. Climate change studies forecast important changes in fire cycles, such as increases in fire intensity, severity, and occurrence. The geographical information system (GIS) based cellular automata model, BorealFireSim, serves as a tool to identify future fire patterns in the boreal forest of Quebec, Canada. The model was calibrated using 1950–2010 climate data for the present baseline and forecasts of burning probability up to 2100 were calculated using two RCP scenarios of climate change. Results show that, with every scenario, the mean area burned will likely increase on a provincial scale, while some areas might expect decreases with a low emission scenario. Comparison with other models shows that areas forecasted to have an increase in fire likelihood, overlap with predicted areas of higher vegetation productivity. The results presented in this research aid identifying key areas for fire-dependent species in the near future.  相似文献

【目的】研究分离自四川凉山州新银合欢根瘤菌的遗传多样性和共生有效性。【方法】采用16S rRNA RFLP、BOX-PCR、AFLP、多位点持家基因序列的联合分析及无氮水培法对33株供试新银合欢根瘤菌的遗传多样性和共生有效性进行研究。【结果】分析表明,3种方法在属水平的分群结果具有较好的一致性,有1个Mesorhizobium属的菌株、3个Bradyrhizobium属的菌株、3个Rhizobium属的菌株,26个相似度较高的菌株属Sinorhizobium。16S rRNA-recA-atpD-glnII序列联合构建的新银合欢根瘤菌系统发育树表明,SCAU203、SCAU211可能分别是Rhizobium和Bradyrhizobium的新类群,另外3个代表菌株分别位于Sinorhizobium、Mesorhizobium、Bradyrhizobium分支,分别与S.americanum、M.Plurifarium、R.huautlense亲缘关系最近。无氮水培接种试验筛选出2个共生固氮效果好、与不接种对照处理差异达显著水平的菌株SCAU229和SCAU307,有3个菌株不仅不具共生有效性,甚至不利于宿主的生长,其余84%的供试菌为低效或无效菌株。【结论】凉山州新银合欢根瘤菌具有丰富的遗传多样性,分布于4个属:Rhizobium、Bradyrhizobium、Mesorhizobium、Bradyrhizobium,79%为Sinorhizobium属的菌株,优势菌群为Sinorhizobium。该区的新银合欢根瘤菌大多数的共生有效性差。  相似文献

Several authors have recently argued that invasion biologists should adopt a more objective and dispassionate stance towards invasive species. Brown and Sax (Austral Ecol 29:530–536, 2004; Austral Ecol 30:481–483, 2005) assert that invasion biologists risk their objectivity, “commit the naturalist fallacy” or “embark on a slippery slope” with engaged concern about invasive species. Elsewhere, Colautti and MacIsaac (Divers Distrib 10:135–141, 2004) propose a neutral language for invasion biology, one that insulates scientific from popular discussion about invasive species. While there is certainly hyperbole about the effects of some invasive species, the type of objectivity promoted in these papers may often be inappropriate for invasion biology. It implies a policy of non-action that is inconsistent with the conservation values of many invasion biologists. To engage these values, invasion biologists can adopt deliberative methods for environmental problem-solving that involve stakeholders in their research design and which still promote high standards of scientific rigor.  相似文献

Laccase from a tree legume, Leucaena leucocephala, was purified to homogeneity using a quick two-step procedure: alginate bead entrapment and celite adsorption chromatography. Laccase was purified 110.6-fold with an overall recovery of 51.0% and a specific activity of 58.5 units/mg. The purified laccase was found to be a heterodimer (∼220 kDa), containing two subunits of 100 and 120 kDa. The affinity of laccase was found to be highest for catechol and lowest for hydroquinone, however, highest Kcat and Kcat/Km were obtained for hydroquinone. Purified laccase exhibited pH and temperature optima of 7.0 and 80 °C, respectively. Mn2+, Cd2+, Fe2+, Cu2+ and Na+ activated laccase while Ca2+ treatment increased laccase activity up to 3 mM, beyond which it inhibited laccase. Co2+, Hg2+, DTT, SDS and EDTA showed an inhibition of laccase activity. The Leucaena laccase was found to be fairly tolerant to organic solvents; upon exposure for 1 h individually to 50% (v/v) each of ethanol, DMF, DMSO and benzene, more than 50% of the activity was retained, while in the presence of 50% (v/v) each of methanol, isopropanol and chloroform, a 40% residual activity was observed. The purified laccase efficiently decolorized synthetic dyes such as indigocarmine and congo red in the absence of any redox mediator.  相似文献

Aim Anthropogenic fires are a major component of the ecology of rangelands throughout the world. To assess the effects of these fires on the diversity patterns of herbivores, we related gradients in fire occurrence, climate and soil fertility to patterns in alpha and beta diversity of African ungulates. Location West Africa. Methods We used a survey‐based approach for ungulates in 37 protected areas in desert, savanna and rain forest habitats throughout West Africa, combined with satellite images of fire occurrence and digital maps of actual evapotranspiration and soil fertility. Alpha diversity was related to the environmental variables using conventional and spatial regression models. We investigated beta diversity using partial Mantel tests and ordination techniques, and by partitioning the variance in assemblage composition into environmental and spatial components. Results The species richness of grazers showed a quadratic relationship with actual evapotranspiration, whereas that of browsers and frugivores showed a linear relationship. However, in the multiple regression models fire occurrence was the only variable that significantly correlated with the species richness of grazers. Soil fertility was weakly related to overall beta diversity and the species richness of browsers, but was non‐significant in the multiple regression models. Fire occurrence was the most important variable explaining species composition of the overall species set and of grazers, whereas the assemblage composition of browsers and frugivores was explained mostly by actual evapotranspiration. Main conclusions In contrast to previous studies, our analyses show that moisture and nutrients alone fail to adequately predict the diversity patterns of grazing ungulates. Rather, the species richness and assemblage composition of grazers are largely governed by anthropogenic fires that modify the quality and structure of the grass sward. Diversity patterns of browsers and frugivores are markedly different from grazers and depend mainly on the availability of moisture, which is positively correlated with the availability of foliage and fruits. Our study highlights the importance of incorporating major human‐induced disturbances or habitat alterations into analyses of diversity patterns.  相似文献

We show here that seed reserves in Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit. and Zea mays L. (maize) are important for mycorrhizal formation and seedling growth. Seed reserve removal reduced mycorrhizal formation markedly in Leucaena but not in maize, except at 15 and 45 days after seed reserve removal. Partial or total removal of seed reserves decreased plant growth and tissue nutrient concentrations in both hosts. Nodule number in Leucaena, which was related positively to plant biomass and mycorrhizal infection levels, was reduced when one or both cotyledons were severed. Leucaena seedlings without or with partial seed reserves had higher nutrient use efficiencies throughout seedling growth. But such an effect was observed only initially in maize. Seed reserve removal increased the specific absorption rates of nutrients in both hosts. Phosphorus absorption rate was significantly and positively related to root infection levels in both Leuceana and maize. Though the growth rates of plants without seed reserves were low initially, these plants had higher growth rates during later stages. We conclude that seed reserves are not only important for seedling growth, but also for mycorrhizal formation and nodulation. Received: 15 July 1999 / Accepted: 6 December 1999  相似文献

Abstract. A small-scale restoration experiment concerning a species-rich calcareous grassland was conducted over a 7-yr period. 20 yr of abandonment (1971-1990) resulted in both a strong reduction of the number of species and an absolute dominance of the shrub Crataegus monogyna and the grass Brachypodium pinnatum - which contributed 98% of the above-ground herb phytomass. The plot (3 m x 6 m) was cleared in September 1990 and thereafter yearly mown in autumn. Small soil seed bank samples were taken immediately after clearing and again in the autumn of 1996. The inner part of the plot showed a reduced soil seed bank compared to the plot underneath the vegetation outside the plot in 1990. Six years later an increased number of seeds in the soil in this inside area could be recorded mainly in the upper soil layer, although the amount was only 40% compared to the outside or control area. Ca. 20% of the species present in the restored vegetation were recorded in seed traps during the main seed dispersal period in 1997. Restoration of high species richness in the plot was a fast process during the first few years: from seven species in 1990 towards 39 three years later. This was significantly faster than the restoration process of the calcareous grassland at the same slope 20 yr earlier. This was probably due to the increased size of the community species pool at the site as a result of appropriate management during the last decades. Relative species number increase was highest at the largest scale during this experiment, viz. at the total plot area. The success of restoration of species-rich, dry grassland vegetation largely depends on the interaction between several conditions, e.g. seed availability, either originating from the seed rain or soil seed bank, favourable germination conditions and a successful development to a mature, seed producing individual. Germination and establishment strongly depend on suitable vegetation structure as a result of sustainable management.  相似文献

研究了我国北方地区主要轮作制度下,土壤一植物生态系统中硫的主要输入(归还)与输出(攫取)途径.结果表明,在我国北方普遍推行的小麦-玉米轮作制中,作物收获物从土壤中攫取的硫素总量为每年26.4kg·hm^-2,由根系和植物其它残留物归还给土壤的硫素为每年6.8kg·hm^-2;在小麦.大豆轮作制中。作物收获物从土壤中攫取的硫素总量为每年24.4kg·hm^-2,对土壤的归还量为每年7.2kg·hm^-2;而在玉米-油菜轮作制中,收获物从土壤中攫取的硫量为每年45.4kg·hm^-2,归还给土壤的硫量为每年8.7kg·hm^-2;其它作物如棉花、高粱、花生、水稻种植一季通过收获物从土壤中带走的硫量分别为每年7.9、6.4、6.7和18.9kg·hm^-2。对土壤的归还量分别为每年2.6、1.8、4.3和5.6kg·hm^-2.通过对系统主要输入输出通量的估算,几种主要农田生态系统硫盈亏的状况计算结果说明,供试作物皆存在硫亏缺状况:小麦每年6kg·hm^-2、玉米8.5kg·hm^-2、油菜24kg·hm^-2、水稻7.1kg·hm^-2.  相似文献

The paper represents an attempt to apply the general principles of modelling vegetation dynamics under climate changes to a study of the long-term vegetation dynamics in the forest-steppe zone of the European territory of Russia, with a purpose to forecast under special climatic scenarios. An original technique is used to construct a Markov chain as a model of vegetation succession. The technique emanated from gebotanic knowledge generalized as a scheme of successional transitions with estimates of the average duration for certain stages of succession. Whenever the knowledge related the stage duration to certain (climate-sensitive) factors of the environment, the fundamental potentiality arises to model the temporal course of succession as a function of a given scenario for how the key factors change. In the formal terms, the model represents a random chain of the Markov kind with a finite number of states and discrete time of transitions by the given scheme. Relative square distributions of succession stages under concern at any time moment (within an adopted scenario) appear as the model outcome (forecasts), as well as estimates of the attainment time for certain states of the vegetation in the territory under study. A method is proposed to describe dynamics of the phytomass production and stores (and the corresponding model trajectories are obtained) for a given scenario.  相似文献
