Correlation and regression relationships between the indices of the body responsiveness to hypoxic impacts and initial individual values of indices of the respiratory system and heart activity were studied in a group of subjects during three repeated cycles of breathing alternately a hypoxic gas mixture (11 vol % O2) for 5 min and normal air for 5 min. A steady negative correlation between the most important regulatory indicator, the increase in the CO2 content of the lungs, and its initial level in individual subjects was found. This may determine the known “normalizing” curative and prophylactic effects of intermittent normobaric hypoxia on the gas transport system of the body. A correlation between the individual increase in the CO2 content of the lungs in response to hypoxia and changes in the heart rate and initial inhalation rate and depth, rather than oxygen consumption by the body, was found.  相似文献

As part of a study on the resistance of subjects adapted to aerobic physical activity to hypoxia, the ventilatory response of trained skiers whose regular physical training is associated with hyperventilation to intermittent normobaric hypoxia has been analyzed. A test session consisted of three cycles of breathing alternately a hypoxic gas mixture (10 vol % O2) for 5 min and normal air for 5 min. The skiers have a lower oxygen consumption rate as compared with untrained subjects, i.e., a reduced resistance to hypoxia. Therefore, the efficiency of respiration during hypoxia is lower in atheltes, which is caused by a rapid decrease in blood oxygenation, whereas during breathing normal atmospheric air, the efficiency of respiration is lower in untrained subjects.  相似文献

Pressure ulcers develop due to morphological and biochemical changes triggered by the combined effects of mechanical deformation, ischemia, and reperfusion that occur during extended periods of immobility. The goal of this study was to test the effectiveness of a novel electrical stimulation technique in the prevention of deep tissue injury (DTI). We propose that contractions elicited by intermittent electrical stimulation (IES) in muscles subjected to constant pressure would induce periodic relief in internal pressure; additionally, each contraction would also restore blood flow to the tissue. The application of constant pressure to the quadriceps muscles of rats generated a DTI that affected 60 +/- 15% of the compressed muscle as assessed by magnetic resonance imaging. In contrast, in the groups of rats that received IES at 10- and 5-min intervals, DTI of the muscle was limited to 16 +/- 16 and 25 +/- 13%, respectively. Injury to the muscle was corroborated by histology. In an experiment with a human volunteer, compression of the buttocks reduced the oxygenation level of the muscles by approximately 4%; after IES, oxygenation levels increased by approximately 6% beyond baseline. Concurrently, the surface pressure profiles of the loaded muscles were redistributed and the high-pressure points were reduced during each IES-induced contraction. The results of this study indicate that IES significantly reduces the amount of DTI by increasing the oxygen available to the tissue and by modifying the pressure profiles of the loaded muscles. This presents a promising technique for the prevention of pressure ulcers in immobilized and/or insensate individuals.  相似文献

The influence of activator of ATP-sensitive potassium channels (KATP) pinacidil and blocker glibenclamide after intermittent hypoxia in rats under stress condition on ADP-stimulated mitochondrial respiration by Chance and lipid peroxidation processes in liver have been investigated. We used next substrates of oxidation--0.35 mM succinate, 1 mM alpha-ketoglutarate, 3 mM glutamate, 3 mM pyruvate, 2.5 mM malate and inhibitor of the mitochondrial fermentative complex I (10 microM rotenone), succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (2 mM malonate) and inhibitor of transamination (1 mM aminooxiacetate). We suggest that adaptation by intermittent hypoxia and application of a KATP opener pinacidil possess significant protective effect on mitochondrial energy support under stress condition. Combination of intermittent hypoxia with pinacidil causes more efficient consumption of oxygen and decrease of lipid peroxidation processes comparative to intermittent hypoxia or pinacidil injection used separately. We conclude about the existence of the functional link between nitric oxide which is being increased under intermittent hypoxia and KATP opener. Both intermittent hypoxia and pinacidil effectively decrease the negative results of mitochondrial dysfunction under stress condition.  相似文献

Seven general surgical units co-operated in a clinical trial of dextran 70 and pneumatic calf compression alone and in combination in the preventing of 125I-fibrinogen-detectable deep vein thrombosis in 305 patients. Both dextran regimens were significantly more effective than pneumatic compression alone. Pulmonary embolism was diagnosed in 14 patients, but there was no significant difference in incidence among the three treatment groups. In patients receiving dextran there was no greater median operative blood loss but there was a significantly greater incidence of postoperative bleeding complications.  相似文献

The possible benefits of adding a low-dose heparin regimen to the technique of peroperative intermittent calf compression for preventing deep vein thrombosis (D.V.T.) were assessed in a randomized trial in 84 surgical patients. The efficacy of peroperative intermittent calf compression was not enhanced by a low-dose heparin regimen, but neither was it worsened. Age, weight, duration, operation, and malignant disease did not affect the relative effectiveness of the two regimens of prophylaxis. The results confirmed that venous stasis is the principal cause of D.V.T.  相似文献

In a multicenter randomized trial, the efficacy and safety of two streptokinase (SK) dosage regimens have been evaluated in patients with proximal deep vein thrombosis of inferior limbs. Twenty-nine patients received SK by a continuous intravenous infusion (250,000 IU as initial dose, 100,000 IU/h as maintenance dose), and 26 patients were treated with intermittent SK administration (500,000 IU as initial dose, followed by 250,000 IU every 12 h). Thrombolytic therapy was continued for 4 days, then the patients received heparin for 5 days and oral anticoagulant for 3 months. The results of treatment as judged by phlebographic examinations were similar in the two groups. Complete, substantial or partial thrombolysis was achieved in 52% of patients in the continuous infusion group and in 58% of patients in the intermittent treatment group. During SK administration, major bleeding complications occurred in 6 patients treated by continuous infusion and in 2 of the second group. The results showed that the intermittent SK administration is as effective and safe as the method of continuous SK infusion in the treatment of deep vein thrombosis.  相似文献

Respiration deficient variants and normal, respiration competent strains ofSaccharomyces require an exogenous supply of arginine, glutamic acid, leucine, lysine and valine to attain optimal growth. The growth of variant cells, however, is stimulated by these compounds to a far greater proportionate extent than that of normal cells. The petite condition, therefore, exaggerates the limitations in amino acid biosyntheses existent in normal yeasts but does not create new ones. The relative respiratory limitations characteristic of petite and normal cells during growth will account for the qualitative and quantitative aspects of their amino acid requirements.  相似文献

Extracellular respiration   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Although it has long been known that microbes can generate energy using diverse strategies, only recently has it become clear that a growing number involve electron transfer to or from extracellular substrates. The best-known example of what we will term 'extracellular respiration' is electron transfer between microbes and minerals, such as iron and manganese (hydr)oxides. This makes sense, given that these minerals are sparingly soluble. What is perhaps surprising, however, is that a number of substrates that might typically be classified as 'soluble' are also respired at the cell surface. There are several reasons why this might be the case: the substrate, in its ecological context, might be associated with a solid surface and thus effectively insoluble; the substrate, while soluble, might simply be too large to transport inside the cell; or the substrate, while benign in one redox state, might become toxic after it is metabolized. In this review, we discuss various examples of extracellular respiration, paying particular attention to what is known about the molecular mechanisms underlying these processes. As will become clear, much remains to be learned about the biochemistry, cell biology and regulation of extracellular respiration, making it a rich field of study for molecular microbiologists.  相似文献
