Multifinishing treatment of cotton fabrics was carried out using core-shell nanoparticles that consists of silver nanoparticles (Ag(0)) as core and chitosan-O-methoxy polyethylene glycol (CTS-O-MPEG) as shell. The synthesized (Ag(0)-CTS-O-MPEG) core-shell nanoparticle was applied to cotton fabrics using the conventional pad-dry-cure method. The finished fabrics were examined for their morphological features and surface characteristics by making use of scanning electron microscope (SEM-EDX), which reveals the well dispersion of (Ag(0)-CTS-O-MPEG) core-shell nanoparticles on cotton fabrics. Factors affecting the treatment such as core shell nanoparticles, citric acid (CA) concentration as well as curing temperature were studied. The treated fabrics, at optimum condition of 1% core shell nanoparticles, 5% citric acid, drying at 80°C, curing at 160°C for 2 min, showed excellent antibacterial activity against Gram-negative Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), even after 20 washing cycles in addition to an enhancement in crease recovery angles (CRA) along with a slight improvement in tensile strength (TS).  相似文献

Collagen fabrics as biomaterials   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Tissue-engineered implants require appropriate biomaterials to serve the required physical function of the tissue being repaired or replaced while facilitating remodeling of the implant. We report on the development of implantable fabrics manufactured from continuous collagen threads. The collagen threads are formed by extrusion of native, acid-extracted bovine colagen into a buffered solution of polyethylene glycol, followed by rinsing and air drying. The high manufacturing rate of such threads permits the production of colagen fabrics of various configurations. The fiber diameter can be controlled, and threads with dry diameters as low as 25 mum have been produced. Braids and bundles of collagen threads implanted as a replacement of the anterior cruciate ligament in a dog model were completely remodeled into host tissue by 12 weeks. Knitted collagen fabrics implanted in a rat abdominal repair model prevented herniation, and connective tissue ingrowth was observed within the fabric by 12 weeks.  相似文献

Linen fibres were coated with a glow-in-the-dark photoluminescence, flame-retarding, and hydrophobic smart nanocomposite using the pad-dry-curing process. Ecologically friendly ammonium polyphosphate and lanthanide-activated strontium aluminium oxide (LSAO) nanoparticles were immobilized into linen fabric using eco-friendly room-temperature-vulcanizing silicone rubber. Different analytical techniques were used to examine the morphological characteristics and elemental compositions of LSAO nanoparticles and treated linen textiles. The self-extinguishing properties of the treated linen textiles were tested for their fire resistance. After 24 washing cycles, the coated linen samples retained their flame-retarding properties. The treated linen's superhydrophobicity rose in direct proportion to the LSAO concentration. After being excited at 365 nm, the colourless luminescent film that was coated on linen surface gave out an emission wavelength of 519 nm. The photoluminescent linen was monitored to create a range of different colours, including off-white in daytime light and green under ultraviolet (UV) light radiation, according to the Commission Internationale de l'éclairage laboratory colorimetric coordinates and photoluminescence spectra. Emission, excitation, and lifetime spectral analysis of the treated linen revealed persistent phosphorescence. For mechanical and comfort evaluation, the coated linen textiles' bending length and air permeability were assessed. Good UV light shielding and enhanced antibacterial activity were detected in the treated linens.  相似文献

Chitosan, a naturally available biopolymer which is now increasingly being used as a functional finish on textile substrates to impart antimicrobial characteristics and increase dye uptake of fabrics was applied on wool fabrics. Henna a natural dye with proven bactericidal properties was applied on wool fabrics along with chitosan to impart antimicrobial characteristics. The effect of chitosan application on the dyeing properties of wool fabrics was studied by measuring the K/S values of the treated substrates at various concentrations of chitosan and the dye. The antimicrobial properties of chitosan and natural dyes both when applied independently and collectively on fabrics were assessed. The results proved that the chitosan treated wool fabrics showed increase dye uptake of fabrics. The treated fabrics were found to be antimicrobial and the chitosan treatment enhances the antimicrobial characteristics of the dyes. Fastness properties of the applied finish to washing, rubbing and perspiration have also been discussed.  相似文献

Linear electron beam radiation was used to induce grafting of glycidyl methacrylate/β-cyclodextrin mixture onto cotton fabric. Chlorohexidin diacetate was incorporated to the cavities of cyclodextrin fixed on the cotton fabric to form an inclusion complex having antimicrobial activity. After incorporating chlorohexidin diacetate, the fabric was subjected to several washing cycles to examine the durability of the antimicrobial finishing. Control and grafted cotton fabrics (before and after loading with antimicrobial agent) were characterized for their antimicrobial activity against different kinds of bacteria and fungi.Grafted fabrics loaded with antimicrobial agent were found to show good antimicrobial activity in comparison with control and grafted fabrics which are not loaded with antimicrobial agent. The grafted fabrics loaded with antimicrobial agent were found also to exhibit good antimicrobial activity after five washings and this lasting antimicrobial activity can be attributed to the inclusion complex formed between chlorohexidin diacetate molecules and the cavities of cyclodextrin.  相似文献

A new microwave curing system was used to affect crosslinking of cotton fabric with nonformaldehyde finishes, namely, glyoxal, glutaraldehyde and 1,2,3,4 butanetetracarboxylic acid (BTCA). Water soluble chitosan was incorporated in the finishing bath in order to impart antibacterial activity to the fabric in addition to the ease of care characteristics. Glyoxal proved to be the best finish and, hence, it was studied along with the chitosan under a variety of conditions including chitosan concentrations, power and time of microwave curing. Besides the crease recovery and strength properties of the finished fabrics, the latter were also monitored for N%, antibacterial activity and characterized using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and FTIR spectra when compared. With conventional curing system, the microwave curing system was found advantageous in production of cotton fabrics with easy care antibacterial properties without high losses in strength properties.  相似文献

Adherence of Bacillus megaterium spores to fabrics depends on fabric composition and texture. Adherence to cotton terry cloth is higher than to plain cotton and cotton-polyester fabrics. The adherence is always proportionally enhanced by the presence of organic and inorganic encrustation on the surface of fibres. These encrustations are deposited when fabrics are washed without adequate detergents. This frequently happens because of attempts to limit or banish the use of efficient ingredients (such as sodium tripolyphosphate) for ecological reasons and to use low temperature washing methods to permit energy savings. Encrustation, inadequate detergency and low temperature washing can concur to sustain a high level of bacterial contamination on the fabric surface.  相似文献

Starting from the experimental situation that in each of a environments all mp combinations between m maternal and p paternal genotypes are raised in b replications (blocks), a linear model is formulated for a quantitative character. On the basis of this model formulae for the analysis of variance are given. The expectations of mean squares as well as the estimations of effects (general and specific combining ability and their interaction terms with environments) and their variances are given for different combinations of fixed and random factors.  相似文献

Cotton fabrics were treated with finishing bath formulation containing emulsion lattices based on acrylate monomers, chitosan and polyethylene glycol (PEG) to provide cotton fabrics with antibacterial, UV-protection as well as improvement of dyeing properties with direct, acid and reactive dyes. The terpolymer emulsion, chitosan and PEG concentrations as well as fabric pretreatment with alkali significantly affected the performance properties, antimicrobial activity, UV-protection and dyeing behavior of treated cotton fabric. The finished fabrics were characterized in terms of FTIR, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope (SEM) as well as mechanical properties such as tensile strength, elongation at break (%), abrasion resistance and air permeability. The obtained data showed that the tested fabrics have appropriate antibacterial activity with highly UV-protection properties with increasing chitosan concentration up to 3%. The mechanical properties expressed as tensile strength and abrasion resistance increased after finishing treatment. Moreover, the performance of the finished fabrics and dyeing properties with different dyes classes were greatly influenced by the action of alkali pretreatment of cotton fabrics, adding the polyethylene glycol to the finishing bath formulation as well as emulsion and chitosan concentrations.  相似文献

Functionally designed elastomeric nanofiber fabrics made of the equimolar copolyester, poly(L-lactide-co-epsilon-caprolactone) (PLCL), with type I collagen or the tri-n-butylamine salt of heparin (heparin-TBA) were co-electrospun using 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol (HFIP) as a solvent. The co-electrospun fabrics (mixing ratio: 0, 5, 10, 30, 50, 70, and 100 wt % of collagen to PLCL) consisted of nanoscale fibers with a mean diameter ranging from approximately 120 to 520 nm. An increase in collagen content in the solution resulted in a decrease in the mean diameter of fibers. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that collagen in a co-electrospun fiber was phase-separated to form a dispersed phase, which was localized in the interior and peripheral region in the continuous matrix phase of fibers. The tensile strength was decreased with increasing collagen content. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were highly elongated and well spread on the fibrous surfaces of fabrics made of PLCL with 5 wt % or 10 wt % collagen. Heparin-TBA (mixing ratio: 1, 5, and 10 wt % to PLCL), soluble in HFIP, was co-electrospun with PLCL to form a fabric. TEM observation showed that heparin-TBA formed as a dispersed phase in a PLCL nanofiber. The releasing rate, released amount, and surface content of heparin-TBA were increased with increasing heparin-TBA content in co-electrospun fabrics. The potential biomedical application of co-electrospun PLCL with type I collagen or heparin-TBA was discussed.  相似文献

Silk fabrics were treated with chlorosulphonic acid in pyridine for different times. The amount of sulfur bound to silk increased during the first 2 h of reaction and then reached a plateau. The amino acidic pattern of sulfated silk remained essentially unchanged for short reaction times (< or =2 h). Longer reaction times resulted in drastic changes in the concentration of Asp, Glu, and Tyr. Surface morphology and texture of silk fabrics changed upon sulfation. Warp and weft yarns became progressively thinner, and deposits of foreign material appeared on the fiber surface. Changes were more evident at longer reaction times (> or =2 h). Spectroscopic analyses performed by FT-IR and FT-Raman showed the appearance of new bands attributable to various vibrations of sulfated groups. The IR bands at 1049 and 1014 cm-1, due to organic sulfate salts, were particularly intense. Bands assigned to alkyl sulfates and sulfonamides appeared in the 1300-1180 cm-1 range. Organic covalent sulfates displayed a weak but distinct IR band at 1385 cm-1. Both IR and Raman spectra revealed that silk fibroin mainly bound sulfates through the hydroxyl groups of Ser and Tyr, while involvement of amines could not be proved. Changes observed in the amide I and II range indicated an increase of the degree of molecular disorder of sulfated silk. Accordingly, the I850/I830 intensity ratio between the two Tyr bands at 850-830 cm-1 increased from 1.41 to 1.52, indicating a more exposed state of Tyr residues in sulfated silk. TGA, DSC, and TG analyses showed that sulfated silk attained a higher thermal stability. A thermal transition attributable to sulfated silk fibroin fractions appeared at about 260 degrees C in the DSC thermograms.  相似文献

This research studied the adherent behaviour of gram-negative Escherichia coli on different weft knitted textile fabrics made of cotton, polyester filaments and polyester (staple)-cotton blended yarn. We compared the bacterial adherence of 18-h-old E. coli cells on all the three types of fabrics under the same experimental conditions. The maximum adherence was found in cotton, followed by the polyester blend; the least adherence was in polyester fabrics. Scanning electron micrographs showed that surface morphology of fabrics also plays an important role during adherence. Cotton fabric, with a rough surface, attracted more bacterial cells compared to the smooth polyester surface. Comparing the FTIR spectra of different fabrics and E. coli it was found that both cotton and E. coli have abundant free hydroxyl groups that may interact strongly with each other and with other hydrophilic groups such as carboxyl, phosphate, and amides. This may be one of the reasons for the greater adherence on cotton as compared to hydrophobic polyester fabric. Finally, the effect of bacterial adherence on loss of strength in different fabrics was analysed. It was found that the maximum decrease in strength occurred in cotton fabrics and the least in polyester fabrics. The present study suggests a procedure for quantifying bacterial adherence on different textile fabrics. This technique can be used with different bacterial strains and varieties of fabrics for quantifying the adherent bacterial cells, and would be of great use in developing and comparing different antimicrobial finished products of the textile industry.  相似文献

We report the results of an interdisciplinary collaboration formed to assess the sterilizing capabilities of the One Atmosphere Uniform Glow Discharge Plasma (OAUGDP). This newly-invented source of glow discharge plasma (the fourth state of matter) is capable of operating at atmospheric pressure in air and other gases, and of providing antimicrobial active species to surfaces and workpieces at room temperature as judged by viable plate counts. OAUGDP exposures have reduced log numbers of bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, and endospores from Bacillus stearothermophilus and Bacillus subtilis on seeded solid surfaces, fabrics, filter paper, and powdered culture media at room temperature. Initial experimental data showed a two-log10 CFU reduction of bacteria when 2 × 102 cells were seeded on filter paper. Results showed ≥3 log10 CFU reduction when polypropylene samples seeded with E. coli (5 × 104) were exposed, while a 30 s exposure time was required for similar killing with S. aureus-seeded polypropylene samples. The exposure times required to effect ≥6 log10 CFU reduction of E. coli and S. aureus on polypropylene samples were no longer than 30 s. Experiments with seeded samples in sealed commercial sterilization bags showed little or no differences in exposure times compared to unwrapped samples. Plasma exposure times of less than 5 min generated ≥5 log10 CFU reduction of commercially prepared Bacillus subtilis spores (1 × 106); 7 min OAUGDP exposures were required to generate a ≥3 log10 CFU reduction for Bacillus stearothermophilus spores. For all microorganisms tested, a biphasic curve was generated when the number of survivors vs time was plotted in dose-response cures. Several proposed mechanisms of killing at room temperature by the OAUGDP are discussed. Received 06 June 1997/ Accepted in revised form 01 November 1997  相似文献

Four different types of cotton-based fabrics, namely, loom-state cotton, cotton/polyester (50/50), cotton/polyester (35/65) and grey mercerized fabrics were bioscoured and bleached. The four substrates are given enzymatic treatment using cellulase enzyme to affect bio-polishing followed by crosslinking using N,N-dimethylol 4,5-dihydroxyethylene urea (DMDHEU) to affect easy care finishing. In another series of experiments the said bioscoured–bleached substrates were similarly crosslinked followed by bio-polishing. Technical properties of the treated fabric that were monitored include: nitrogen content, loss in fabric weight, tensile strength, elongation at break, tear strength, whiteness index, surface roughness and wrinkle recovery angle. Scanning electron micrograph was also examined. Conclusions arrived at from these studies indicated that: post-crosslinking and pre-crosslinking revealed marginal differences in N%, wrinkle recovery angle and whiteness index, a point which validates the argument that cellulase enzyme could not break down the DMDHEU crosslinks within the molecular structure of cotton-containing fabrics. Meanwhile the surface roughness obtained with pre-crosslinking is a bit higher than those of post-crosslinking. Moreover, post-crosslinking caused higher losses in strength properties than pre-crosslinking. Scanning electron micrograph shows that cotton sample pre-crosslinked is almost smooth than those post-crosslinked.  相似文献

We measured the silver levels producedin vitro by three silver-coated fabrics, and the resulting antimicrobial effect onPseudomonas aeruginosa,Staphylococcus aureus, andCandida albicans. A significant enhancement of the fabrics' antimicrobial effect was achieved by the passage of weak DC currents, which cause increased liberation of silver ions. The antimicrobial effectiveness of each fabric depended on its textile characteristics. Thus, a silver-coated fabric could potentially serve as an antimicrobial dressing by continuously releasing silver ions into a wound either by passive dissociation or through electrical stimulation.Running Title: Antimicrobial Activity of Silver-Nylon  相似文献
