Detection of MR signals with surface coils provides increased signal-to-noise ratio for superficial structures relative to detection by circumferential coils, permitting improved spatial resolution. Different geometries of surface coils can be used for different regions. Coils that are flat or curved to fit body contours are good for general imaging, with a range of coil sizes useful for structures of different size or depth. Solenoidal coils are useful for imaging protruding structures such as breasts, while smaller versions of conventional circumferential coils that can be slipped over limbs are useful for imaging extremities.  相似文献

Tissue mechanical parameters have been shown to be highly sensitive to disease by elastography. Magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) in the human body relies on the low-dynamic range of tissue mechanics <100 Hz. In contrast, MRE suited for investigations of mice or small tissue samples requires vibration frequencies 10–20 times higher than those used in human MRE. The dispersion of the complex shear modulus (G?) prevents direct comparison of elastography data at different frequency bands and, consequently, frequency-independent viscoelastic models that fit to G* over a wide dynamic range have to be employed. This study presents data of G* of samples of agarose gel, liver, brain, and muscle measured by high-resolution MRE in a 7T-animal scanner at 200–800 Hz vibration frequency. Material constants μ and α according to the springpot model and related to shear elasticity and slope of the G*-dispersion were determined. Both μ and α of calf brain and bovine liver were found to be similar, while a sample of fibrotic human liver (METAVIR score of 3) displayed about fifteen times higher shear elasticity, similar to μ of bovine muscle measured in muscle fiber direction. α was the highest in fibrotic liver, followed by normal brain and liver, while muscle had the lowest α-values of all biological samples investigated in this study. As expected, the least G*-dispersion was seen in soft gel. The proposed technique of wide-range dynamic MRE can provide baseline data for both human MRE and high-dynamic MRE for better understanding tissue mechanics of different tissue structures.  相似文献

Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging is a unique imaging modality that is gaining rapid acceptance for a variety of medical indications. Diagnostic information is obtained noninvasively, without the potential hazards of ionizing radiation. The spatial resolution and anatomic detail of MR imaging rival those of other currently available imaging methods. By gating to an electrocardiographic signal cardiac imaging is possible. Since March 1983 the authors have had experience with cardiac MR imaging in both animals and humans. Cardiac anatomy is well shown by this technique, which allows detection and characterization of intracardiac masses, congenital heart disease and anomalies of the great vessels. Myocardial infarction has been detected in both animals and humans without the use of contrast agents, and acute cardiac transplant rejection has been visualized in an animal model. Limitations of MR imaging primarily have been lengthy imaging times and the sensitivity of the images to motion. With further investigation and experience this technique may become useful for studying a wide variety of cardiovascular disorders.  相似文献

Studies for 39 patients have been done with the use of a new non-invasive method of observation--MR cholangiopancreatography,--that enables to get a high contrast-enhanced image of the intrahepatic, extrahepatic and pancreatic ducts without administration of the contrast agents and invasive interventions. High diagnostic efficiency of the method has been proved in patients with diseases of bile ducts and pancreas. The observation technique has been optimized and semiotics has been clarified in cases of various diseases that cause on obstruction of the biliferous tracts. The advantages of this method has been showed as compared to invasive roentgenologic methods of examinations.  相似文献

Abeta binding alcohol dehydrogenase (ABAD) is an NAD-dependent mitochondrial dehydrogenase. The binding between ABAD and Abeta is likely a direct link between Abeta and mitochondrial toxicity in Alzheimer's disease. In this study, surface plasmon resonance (SPR) was employed to determine the temperature dependence of the affinity of the ABAD-Abeta interaction. A van't Hoff analysis revealed that the ABAD-Abeta association is driven by a favorable entropic change (DeltaS = 300 +/- 30 J mol-1 K-1) which overcomes an unfavorable enthalpy change (DeltaH = 49 +/- 7 kJ/mol). Therefore, hydrophobic interactions and changes in protein dynamics are the dominant driving forces of the ABAD-Abeta interaction. This is the first dissection of the entropic and enthalpic contribution to the energetics of a protein-protein interaction involving Abeta. SPR confirmed the conformational changes in the ABAD-Abeta complex after Abeta binding, consistent with differences seen in the crystal structures of free ABAD and the ABAD-Abeta complex. Saturation transfer difference (STD) NMR experiments directly and unambiguously demonstrated the inhibitory effect of Abeta on the ABAD-NAD interaction. Conversely, NAD inhibits the Abeta-ABAD interaction. Binding of Abeta and binding of NAD to ABAD are likely mutually exclusive. Thus, Abeta binding induces conformational and subsequently functional changes in ABAD, which may have a role in the mechanism of Abeta toxicity in Alzheimer's disease.  相似文献

MRI is an optimal clinical (research) tool to provide information on brain morphology and pathology and to detect metal ions that possess intrinsic magnetic properties. Non-heme iron is abundantly present in the brain in three different forms: "low molecular weight" complexes, iron bound to "medium molecular weight complexes" metalloproteins such as transferrin, and "high molecular weight" complexes as ferritin and hemosiderin. The total amount and form of iron may differ in health and disease, and MRI can possibly quantify and monitor such changes. Ferritin-bound iron is the main storage form of iron and is present predominantly in the extrapyramidal nuclei where its amounts normally increase as a function of age. Ferritin is water soluble and shortens both, T1 and T2 relaxation, with as result a signal change on the MR images. Hemosiderin, a degradation product of ferritin, is water-insoluble with a stronger T2 shortening effect than ferritin. The larger cluster size of hemosiderin and its water-insolubility also explain a lack of significant T1-shortening effect on T1-weighted images. Using both in vitro specimens and intact brain tissue in vivo we demonstrate here that MRI may be able to distinguish between ferritin- and hemosiderin-bound iron.  相似文献
