This paper describes for the first time polymorphism of the erythrocyte diaphorase in goats. Three diaphorase 1 phenotypes were observed in the red cells of goats. Breeding data indicated that polymorphism was controlled by two autosomal codominant alleles, DiaF and DiaS, the frequencies of which were determined in 14 different Spanish breeds of goat.  相似文献

Serum biochemical values were determined in blood samples collected from 48 shot fallow deer from the Brijuni islands and 45 sedated fallow deer (Dama dama L.) from hunting grounds in the continental part of Croatia. The parameters were compared with regard to age, sex and habitat. Statistically significant differences were found for serum total protein concentration, alkaline phosphatase, aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase activity between young and adult island deer, as well as for total protein, triacylglyceride, cholesterol concentration and alkaline phosphatase activity between young and adult continental deer. In young animals, island males had higher albumin concentrations, while continental males had higher alkaline phosphatase values than females. In adult animals, island males had a higher blood urea nitrogen concentration, while continental males had higher albumin and cholesterol concentrations, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase and creatine kinase activities. In this group, males exhibited lower bilirubin and triacylglyceride concentrations than females. Our results indicate that besides age, sex and sampling method, nutritional and environmental factors should be considered when evaluating serum biochemical parameters of fallow deer  相似文献

Electroretinogram (ERG) flicker photometry was used to study the spectral mechanisms in the retinas of white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) and fallow deer (Dama dama). In addition to having a rod pigment with maximum sensitivity (max) of about 497 nm, both species appear to have two classes of photopic receptors. They share in common a short-wavelength-sensitive cone mechanism having max in the region of 450–460 nm. Each also has a cone having peak sensitivity in the middle wavelengths, but these differ slightly for the two species. In white-tailed deer the max of this cone is about 537 nm; for the fallow deer the average max value for this mechanism was 542 nm. Minerals were determined in the livers of 69 fallow deer, which were shot during routine culls in Slovenian enclosures, in the winter of 2001/2002. Analysis of minerals and trace elements was done by atomic absorption spectroscopy and analysis of phosphorus was done by spectrophotometry. Mean values recorded for liver were 0.11±0.07 g/kg for calcium, 6.38±1.10 g/kg for phosphorus, 0.65±0.24 g/kg for sodium, 1.91±0.66 g/kg for potassium, 0.14±0.03 g/kg for magnesium, 31.0±21.9 mg/kg for copper, 31.3±10.8 mg/kg for zinc, 3.8±1.7 mg/kg for manganese, and 141±65 mg/kg for iron. Lead was present in high concentrations in the liver of almost all animals (1.48±0.92 mg/kg), while cadmium occurred in relatively low concentrations (0.27±0.14 mg/kg). There were significant differences in liver sodium, copper and iron concentrations between sexes and significant differences in liver phosphorus concentration between old and young animals.  相似文献

Wild-type Chlamydomonas reinhardtii cells exhibited a peculiar NADH-nitrobluetetrazolium reductase (NADH diaphorase) activity when grown under conditions in which xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH) is present. This XDH-coinduced diaphorase was electrophoretically distinguishable from constitutive diaphorases, showed the same mobility as XDH and could be assayed in vitro with dichlorophenol indophenol. Mutant strains 102, 104 and 307 of Chlamydomonas which lack XDH did not exhibit XDH-coinduced diaphorase. Heat treatment of crude extracts or partial purification of XDH inactivated or removed all constitutive diaphorases and left significant levels of XDH-coinduced diaphorase which remained always associated with XDH. These results demonstrate that XDH from C. reinhardtii, like other organisms, is also capable of catalyzing NADH oxidation.  相似文献

To date, no histochemical data exist concerning the process of ossification of developing pedicles in deer. Four different zones of the growing pedicle (subcutaneous tissue; fibrous layer of the periosteum; cambial layer of the periosteum; women bone of the primary spongiosa) were analysed in direct correlation to their histological appearance. The level of extractable specific alkaline phosphatase in the preosseous zones of the pedicle was 4-fold higher than levels in the epiphyseal growth plate previously reported. These results reflect that rapid bone formation takes place in the growing pedicle. Highest buffer-extractable alkaline phosphatase activity was found in the cambial layer directly in front of the mineralization area of the pedicle-bone, connected with maximal values for organically bound phosphate and inorganic phosphate. Moreover, the values for buffer-extractable alkaline phosphatase, organically bound phosphate and inorganic phosphate decreased with increasing mineralization in the zone of the primary spongiosa. The present histological and biochemical findings on the process of ossification in the pedicle show similarities to typical endochondral ossification. The process of pedicle growth may serve as a new and important system for chondrogenic and osteogenic studies, including a better understanding of antler development.  相似文献

Abstract The method used most extensively in Europe to prevent damage due to browsing of woody plants consists of shelter pipes made of plastic material or net. This system, however, is not practical for plants such as olive trees where it is desirable for the branches to develop more than the trunk. For this reason, in an area with a high deer (Dama dama) population, three liquid repellents were tested for their ability to prevent damage by cervids to olive seedlings (Olea europaea). Tree Guard and Eutrofit reduced the percentage of plants browsed with respect to the control by a statistically significant extent through the third week (54.5 and 40.9% reduction, respectively), while for Hot Sauce, the differences did not reach significance after the first week. Tree Guard and Eutrofit were also able to reduce the level of damage for the entire eight week period of the test, while Hot Sauce did not differ from the control in a statistically significant manner. The use of repellent substances such as Tree Guard and Eutrofit to reduce the damage caused by cervids to olive groves therefore seems a possible strategy under conditions of medium and low density of animals. Eutrofit was the most economical product from the point of view of cost effectiveness.  相似文献

NADH diaphorase polymorphism was identified in red deer erythrocyte lysates using starch gel electrophoresis and activity staining. The inheritance of the polymorphism was consistent with predictions of autosomal codominant inheritance of two alleles DIA1F and DIAS. In New Zealand's four main feral red deer populations (n = 188) the DIA1F allele frequency ranged from 0.491 to 0.985. A sample of North American wapiti (n = 42) was monomorphic for the DIA1F allele.  相似文献

The tick-transmitted Anaplasma phagocytophilum has been recorded in a range of mammal species and causes granulocytic ehrlichiosis in humans, horses, and companion animals as well as tick-borne fever in ruminants. Although deer and other ruminant species are known to be natural hosts, the distribution among sympatric deer populations is unexplored. Blood from 80 deer of four species were screened using an A. phagocytophilum-specific real-time polymerase chain reaction. Overall, 29% (19–40) of deer tested positive. Fallow deer (Dama dama), the most numerous species, had significantly lower prevalence (21%) than roe (Capreolus capreolus), red (Cervus elaphus), or sika (Cervus nippon) deer (average 50%). It is suggested that patterns of habitat use influence infection levels in different deer species. The role of deer as reservoirs of anaplasmosis remains unknown; however, prevalence in deer could be a useful index of local infection pressure and the risk of disease in domestic animals and humans.  相似文献
