The soil requirements of seven central Australian sandridge plant species were examined by comparing the soils associated with individuals of each species in their typical sandridge habitats and in anomalous habitats such as dry watercourses, grader banks on road verges, disturbed ground near boreholes, and sand-filled rock crevices. The species studied were Zygochloa paradoxa, Chamaesyce wheeleri, Calotis erinacea, Helichrysum ambiguum, Dampiera cinerea, Triodia basedowii and Monachather paradoxa. The first two of these are characteristic of open dunecrests, the next three of crests and upper dune slopes, and the last two of lower slopes and swales. The first five species grow in a range of anomalous habitats with nutrient status comparable to swales and lowerslopes, but only if the soils are loosened or have enhanced moisture status. The deep wellsorted sands of dry watercourses form the only anomalous habitat for Zygochloa paradoxa and Chamaesyce wheeleri. Calotis erinacea, Helichrysum ambiguum and Dampiera cinerea also grow on poorly sorted graderbank and borehole soils in the swales, but not on unmodified swale soils. The only anomalous habitats in which the last two have been found are very similar to their typical sandridge habitats and so reveal little of soil requirements.  相似文献

Shifts in ectomycorrhizal (ECM) community structure were examined across an experimental hydrologic gradient on containerized seedlings of two oak species, Quercus montana and Quercus palustris, inoculated from a homogenate of roots from mature oak trees. At the end of one growing season, seedlings were harvested, roots were sorted by morphotype, and proportional colonization of each type was determined. DNA was subsequently extracted from individual root tips for polymerase chain reaction, restriction fragment length polymorphism, and rDNA sequencing of the ITS1/5.8S/ITS2 region to determine identities of fungal morphotypes. Twelve distinct molecular types were identified. Analysis of similarity showed that ECM fungal assemblages shifted significantly in composition across the soil moisture gradient. Taxa within the genus Tuber and the family Thelephoraceae were largely responsible for the changes in fungal assemblages. There were also significant differences in ECM community assemblages between the two oak host species. These results demonstrate that the structure of ECM fungal communities depends on both the abiotic and biotic environments and can shift with changes in soil moisture as well as host plant, even within the same genus.  相似文献

Species composition and abundance of present rocky shore assemblages at Cap Corse (Corsica, North Western Mediterranean) dominated by the fucalean alga Cystoseira crinita are compared with similar data obtained almost 50 years ago. Fifteen sites at five different localities where dense C. crinita assemblages were present in the past were revisited in June 2007. Possible differences between the two sampling times were investigated, applying various multivariate analysis techniques available in the statistical package PRIMER v.6. Dense assemblages dominated by C. crinita were found at 14 out of the 15 surveyed sites, showing a similar structure and composition to the assemblages studied in the past. PERMANOVA indicated slight differences in species composition and abundances between old and new surveys. These differences can be summarized as a higher abundance of encrusting species (up to 3?times greater cover), and more sciaphilic turf-forming species (3 to 60-fold greater, depending on the species) and Cladophora spp. (20?times greater) in the present study than in the old study. Furthermore, the present assemblages showed a lower abundance of photophilic turf-forming species. These differences could be due to different taxonomic competence between observers, seasonal fluctuations or long-term changes. Assemblages dominated by Cystoseira crinita in Cap Corse were confirmed to be common, as they were found and sampled at 22 new sites around the island.  相似文献

Fruit colour influences fruit choice by seed dispersers. The mistletoe Tristerix corymbosus (Loranthaceae) produces mature fruits of two different colours in two different biomes: yellow in the Chilean matorral and green in the temperate forest of southern South America. We conducted field surveys to establish the association between fruit colour and disperser identity throughout the entire geographical range of T. corymbosus. We selected 22 populations, eight of which were located in the Chilean matorral and 14 in the temperate forest south of the matorral. To identify the seed dispersers of the mistletoe we used direct observation, camera traps, and live‐trapping of small mammals. We also report experiments to assess fruit selection by seed dispersers based on differences in colour. The assemblages of dispersers of T. corymbosus differ between the two biomes: yellow fruits in Chilean matorral are exclusively dispersed by three bird species while green fruits in the temperate forest are exclusively dispersed by a marsupial. The differences in the assemblages of seed dispersers can be explained by differences in food‐finding strategies between the two assemblages. Green fruits in temperate forest are not easily detected by birds, while colour might not be an important cue for the marsupial because it is nocturnal and uses other senses to locate food. We propose that the association between the marsupial and the green‐fruited mistletoe constitutes an ecological fitting rather than the outcome of a co‐evolutionary process. The marsupial might have allowed the mistletoe T. corymbosus to retain green coloration in mature fruit, a condition to which it is preadapted by a slower ripening process in temperate forest populations.  相似文献

Vallisneria aethiopica and Lagarosiphon ilicifolius are common and abundant submerged macrophytes in Lake Kariba, Zimbabwe. The two species have distinct structural morphologies, with Vallisneria consisting of long ribbon-like leaves, while Lagarosiphon has filiform stems with numerous small alternate leaves. This study investigated the effect of these architectural differences between the two plant species on their epiphytic macroinvertebrate assemblages in the shallow inshore waters of Lake Kariba. Ten sites were sampled on three occasions between May and July 2005. A total of 56 macroinvertebrate taxa was collected, 48 from Lagarosiphon and 45 from Vallisneria. Generally, the two plant species were associated with similar macroinvertebrate communities, but the average abundances of most taxa, and thus the overall macroinvertebrate abundances, were significantly greater on Lagarosiphon. The main macroinvertebrate functional feeding groups found on both plant species were collector-gatherers, grazers and predators, all of which were significantly more abundant on Lagarosiphon. Although the macroinvertebrate assemblages associated with Vallisneria and Lagarosiphon generally consisted of the same taxa, there were distinct and significant differences between them, probably due to the architectural differences between the two submerged macrophytes.  相似文献

In this study, patterns in the taxonomic richness and composition of the fish fauna inhabiting Cymodocea nodosa seagrass meadows were described across their entire distribution range in the Mediterranean Sea and adjacent Atlantic Ocean. Specifically, the study tested whether there are differences in the composition of fish assemblages between those ecoregions encompassed by the distribution range of C. nodosa, and whether these differences in composition are connected with differences in bioclimatic affinities of the fish faunas. A literature review resulted in a total of 19 studies, containing 22 fish assemblages at 18 locations. The ichthyofauna associated with C. nodosa seagrass meadows comprises 59 families and 188 species. The western Mediterranean (WM) Sea has the highest species richness (87 species). Fish assemblages from the Macaronesia–Canary Islands, the Sahelian Upwelling, South European Atlantic Shelf and the WM differ, in terms of assemblage composition, relative to other ecoregions. In contrast, the composition of the fish fauna from the central and eastern Mediterranean overlaps. There is a significant serial correlation in fish assemblage composition between adjacent ecoregions along the distribution range of C. nodosa. Dissimilarities in assemblage composition are connected with the geographical separation between locations, and the mean minimum annual seawater temperature is the environmental factor that explains most variation in fish assemblage composition.  相似文献

The green macroalga Caulerpa filiformis has been spreading on shallow soft sediment habitats along the Peruvian coast, colonizing previously unvegetated sediments to create monospecific meadows. We examined the nature of the impact of C. filiformis meadows on the density, taxonomic richness and assemblage structure of epifaunal and infaunal benthic macroinvertebrates. Specifically, we tested whether the spread of C. filiformis has resulted in different macroinvertebrate assemblages than those formed by the dominant native macroalgae (i.e., Rhodymenia spp.) and unvegetated sediments. Surveys were undertaken in two bays in each of two locations, in central and southern Peru, during winter 2017 and summer 2018. In general, our results show that macroinvertebrate assemblages were similar across all three habitats, although there were some differences, related to location and time, but with no clear patterns observed. Taxonomic richness and density was generally higher in the vegetated habitats than the unvegetated habitat, and where there were differences between the two vegetated habitats there was no consistent pattern of which habitat supported the highest richness or density. Given invading C. filiformis is primarily colonizing unvegetated habitats it would appear that this species is creating a new niche which supports similar assemblages, but higher taxonomic richness and density than unvegetated habitats. While our study suggests that C. filiformis is having a limited ecological impact we recommend that actions be put in place to limit the spread of this invasive species at the same time as increasing monitoring of the ecological impacts of this species as lags in the ecological impacts of invasive species are common.

Reed invasion is a common phenomenon of open streams with disturbed riparian vegetation in river catchments. Knowledge of the effects of such vegetation change on aquatic communities is fundamental to river management. Macroinvertebrate fauna in Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steud. and open bank habitats were examined in three rivers in central Victoria in order to understand the effect of such littoral habitat on macroinvertebrates. Data were analysed using Partially Nested Factorial ANOVA with season, river and habitats as main effects. Habitat structure had a significant effect (p<0.05) on macroinvertebrate species richness, however this was not seasonally consistent across the three rivers. There was a significant increase (p<0.05) in macroinvertebrate taxa richness in Phragmites habitats during winter and spring seasons. Total abundance of taxa showed no consistent significant differences in the two habitats. Results of Canonical Analysis of Principle Coordinates indicated significant differences (p<0.05) in macroinvertebrate assemblages between Phragmites and bare bank habitats in all seasons. Habitat selection by taxa could be related to the microphysical environment of the habitats. This study suggests that reed beds create important littoral habitat structures which support diverse macroinvertebrate assemblages.  相似文献

Although the composition of invertebrate assemblages associated with kelps has motivated several studies in the recent past, little is known about assemblages associated with smaller, understorey macroalgae in these ecosystems. Here, the composition of invertebrate assemblages living within understorey macroalgae of a kelp (Laminaria digitata) forest has been studied over two sampling dates, and the structure of the food web investigated using stable isotopes. A total of 145 species of mobile fauna, mainly amphipods and gastropods, were identified. Although differences were date-dependent, we showed that the three species considered (Palmaria palmata, Mastocarpus stellatus, Ellisolandia elongata) sheltered different associated assemblages, including high host-specificity, which suggests that the animal diversity associated with rocky shores is enhanced by a high algal diversity. Overall, a dominance of gastropods was observed for the two-dimensional, leaf-like P. palmata, while the three-dimensionally structured species (M. stellatus, E. elongata) were characterized by a dominance of amphipods. Stable isotopes highlighted different trophic structures; E. elongata-associated assemblages were most likely relying on a dominant food source, sediment organic matter, while other assemblages were based on a wider diversity of food sources (algae, sediment, suspended organic matter). Our results illustrate the need to consider the microhabitats formed by understorey macroalgae in order to thoroughly assess the diversity and understand the functioning of coastal rocky ecosystems.  相似文献

Flow and sediment regimes of floodplain rivers around the world have been changed by river regulation and land management, altering the ecological processes structuring riparian plant communities. However, the combined effects of inundation and sedimentation processes on riparian plant survival and growth are poorly understood. The separate and interactive effects of inundation duration and sedimentation depth on survival, growth and vegetative reproduction of two herbaceous clonal river bank plant species, Carex bichenoviana and Calotis scapigera, were investigated in an outdoor laboratory experiment. Plants were grown under three levels of sediment addition and two levels of inundation duration and were harvested after 60 days. Both species survived up to 30 days inundation in the absence of sediment. Growth and vegetative reproduction were increased for C. scapigera, but reduced for C. bichenoviana. Sediment deposition during periods of inundation reduced survival of both species, with C. scapigera unable to survive. Carex bichenoviana survived, but as inundation duration and depth of sediment increased, growth and vegetative reproduction were reduced. Our results indicate sediment deposition during flooding can change the tolerance of riparian plant species to inundation, reducing survival and growth.  相似文献

The relationship between modern pollen assemblages and modern vegetation along two elevational transects within the Transverse and Peninsular Ranges of southern California, USA, is demonstrated using cluster analysis of the pollen data. Cluster analysis separates the Sonora Desert vegetation, Valley grassland/agricultural land and chaparral vegetation types on the San Jacinto Mountains transect. Chaparral is not easily separated on the San Bernardino Mountains transect, probably due to the presence of Quercus dumosa (scrub oak) there. The lower montane QuercusPinus (oak – pine) community is distinct from other forest types, and can be subdivided palynologically based upon relative importance of Quercus, Pinus and Cupressaceae [primarily Calocedrus decurrens (incense cedar)] pollen. Subdivisions include QuercusPinus – Cupressaceae, Quercus – Cupressaceae – Pinus and QuercusPinus assemblages. Higher elevation PinusAbies (pine – fir) and Pinus-dominated communities are also differentiated from one another, although the subalpine vegetation type only occurs on the San Bernardino Mountains transect. Though the study area presently straddles a transition between winter-wet and summer-wet climatic regimes, differences between the pollen assemblages in the two mountain ranges are minimal. Pollen assemblages from lower elevations document the effects of human activities, primarily agriculture, on the modern pollen rain of the region, with the occurrence of introduced citrus (Citrus sp.) and shade (Eucalyptus sp.) trees and weedy disturbance indicators (e.g., Brassicaceae).  相似文献

Periphytic diatoms are potentially powerful indicators of environmental change in climatically‐sensitive high latitude regions. However, only a few studies have examined their taxonomic and ecological characteristics. We identified and enumerated diatom assemblages from sediment, rock, and moss habitats in 34 ultra‐oligotrophic and highly transparent lakes and ponds on Victoria Island, Arctic Canada. The similar limnological characteristics of the sites allowed us to examine the influence of habitat, independent of water chemistry, on the diatom assemblages. As is typical in shallow arctic water bodies, benthic taxa, including species of Achnanthes, Caloneis, Cymbella, Navicula, and Nitzschia, were most widely represented. Minor gradients in our measured environmental variables did not significantly explain any variance in diatom species, but there were marked differences in diatom assemblages among sites. Pond ephemerality seems to explain some diatom variation, because aerophilic taxa such as Achnanthes kryophila Petersen and A. marginulata Grunow were dominant in shallow sites that had undergone appreciable reductions in volume. We identified several taxa that exhibited strong habitat preferences to sediment, moss, or rock substrates and also found significant differences (P < 0.01) in diatom composition among the three habitats. In comparisons with three similar diatom surveys extending over 1200 km of latitude, we determined that surface sediment assemblages differed significantly (P < 0.001) among all regions examined. Diatom species diversity was inversely related to latitude, a result likely explained by differences in the lengths of growing seasons. These data contribute important ecological information on diatom assemblages in arctic regions and will aid in the interpretation of environmental changes in biomonitoring and paleolimnological studies.  相似文献

螺类作为湿地的重要生物类群,对环境变化响应敏感,这使得螺类成为潜在的环境指示物种。为了研究中国东北沼泽湿地不同类型湿地螺类群落结构的差异以及螺类作为不同类型湿地指示物种的可能,在2014年9月和2015年5月对小叶章沼泽化草甸湿地、臌囊苔草湿地、毛苔草湿地、漂筏苔草湿地共17个采样点进行螺类样品采集。共采集到了螺类8科13属17种4452个。研究表明,螺类以扁卷螺科Planorbidae、椎实螺科Lymnaeidae、膀胱螺科Physidae为主;4种不同类型湿地螺的种类组成不同,这些螺类的种类组成与不同类型湿地的水深、植物类型组成等湿地特征是相对应。螺类的生物多样性指数(ShannonWiener指数和Marglef指数)在不同类型湿地之间也存在一定差异,筛选了指示螺类6种,无褶螺是小叶章沼泽化草甸的指示物种,小土蜗、半球多脉扁螺和虹蛹螺是臌囊苔草湿地的指示物种,琥珀螺是毛苔草湿地的指示物种,平盘螺是漂筏苔草湿地的指示物种,这表明了螺类是沼泽湿地类型的重要指示生物。也为螺类生物多样性资源的保护、恢复和生态评价提供科学依据和资料积累。  相似文献

Abstract This study reports on preliminary findings of habitat‐contingent temporal variability in ant assemblages in Purnululu National Park in northern Australia's semiarid tropics, by sampling at the end of the dry season (October 2004) and the end of the wet season (April 2005). Six grids of 15 pitfall traps were established in each of the spinifex, sandplain and gorge habitats. Community composition was dominated by behaviourally dominant ants (Iridomyrmex spp.) and climate specialists (Melophorus and Meranoplus spp.). Ant activity was higher in the wet season sampling period, with greater species richness and abundance. Interestingly, temporal variation in ant assemblage richness, abundance and composition varied markedly with habitat type. While there were large differences between sampling periods for the spinifex and sandplain habitat, this was not the case in the gorges. These temporal changes in ant assemblages are postulated to be linked with major environmental differences between the two sampling periods, driven by seasonal climatic conditions. It is likely that these changes influenced the ant assemblages through species differences in physiological tolerance levels, ecological requirements and competitive ability. This study demonstrates the need, in highly seasonal environments, to consider the temporal context of studies in relation to habitat type, particularly when undertaking biodiversity surveys and monitoring.  相似文献

比较河流浮游藻类和着生藻类群落的时空格局及其与环境因子关系的差异,有助于了解两类藻的区别与联系。然而,目前这方面的研究还不多。基于2019年秋季和2020年夏季金沙江上段干流17个样点藻类及水体理化指标的调查数据,分析了不同季节浮游藻类和着生藻类群落结构及其主要环境驱动因子,比较了两类藻的多样性格局及其与环境关系的异同。结果发现,调查河段的浮游藻类和着生藻类均以硅藻为主,其中浮游藻类以极小曲壳藻(Achnanthes minutissima)、钝脆杆藻(Fragilaria capucina)、适中舟形藻(Navicula accomoda)为主要优势种,着生藻类以极小曲壳藻(Achnanthes minutissima)、扁圆卵形藻(Cocconeis placentula)、橄榄绿色异极藻(Gomphonema olivaceum)为主要优势种。浮游藻类和着生藻类秋季平均密度分别为:2.41×10~5个/L、9.43×10~3个/cm~2,均明显高于夏季的平均密度(4.84×10~4个/L、4.84×10~3个/cm~2)。两类藻的群落格局表现出明显的季节变化,但只有着生藻分类单元...  相似文献

Aquatic macrophytes are a common habitat for macroinvertebrates and may occupy depth zones in the littoral region of lowland rivers. Studies have indicated that different species of macrophyte typically support different assemblages, abundances and numbers of species of macroinvertebrates. This has often been attributed to differences in the dissectedness of stems and leaves of the macrophytes, resulting in differences in the surface area and/or the number of microhabitats available to invertebrates. I set out to measure the abundance and taxonomic richness and to describe the macroinvertebrate assemblages associated with three species of aquatic macrophyte in a pool in the Macquarie River, Tasmania and to examine responses of these variables to changes in water levels over summer. The macrophyte species sampled wereMyriophyllum simulans/variifolium, Triglochin procera} and Eleocharis sphacelata, each one differing in the dissectedness of its stems and leaves and its location in the littoral zone. Whereas the greatest abundance of macroinvertebrates was found associated in all months (i.e. at all water levels) with the structurally complex and shallowest macrophyte species, Myriophyllum, the number of taxa associated with this species was in several cases lower than for the structurally simpler and deeper water Triglochin and Eleocharis. While water depth and total plant biomass of samples were often correlated with invertebrate abundance and richness, these relationships were different for each macrophyte species. Of the nine most common invertebrate taxa collected from all samples, the abundances of more than half showed consistent differences among macrophyte species across months, two showed differences among macrophytes, but with an interaction with month and two showed no differences among macrophytes. There were major differences in the invertebrate assemblages associated with each macrophyte species in any one month, however, there was also a large turnover of taxa associated with the species of macrophytes from one month to the next. Changes in water level and concomitant changes in environmental variables are suggested as factors influencing the invertebrate fauna in the littoral zone of the pool of the Macquarie River. It is thus important for river managers to be aware that species of macroinvertebrates are not evenly distributed across species of macrophyte and that water levels and their influence on macrophytes as invertebrate habitat may play an integral part in determining the abundance, richness and assemblage of invertebrates in rivers.  相似文献

Microboring endoliths were studied in dead modern corals collected at various depths and in growth position on La Surprise atoll in New Caledonia. Eight taxa of microborers were regularly observed: three cyanobacteria (Hyella caespitosa, Mastigocoleus testarum, and Plectonema terebrans), two chlorophytes (Ostreobium quekettii and Phaeophila dendroides) and three fungal forms (Dodgella priscus, and two unidentified fungi). The relative abundance of each taxon was determined in the modern corals throughout the studied sampling interval (from 0 down to 40 m water depth). This allowed us to propose for the first time a bathymetric model based on microendolith assemblages colonizing in situ hard-substrates of corals. In this model, the occurrence of the cyanobacteria Hyella and Mastigocoleus indicates a bathymetric range from 0 down to a water depth of 3 and 6 m respectively. The chlorophyta O. quekettii, associated with the cyanobacterium P. terebrans and fungi, is dominant from 10 to 40 m depth, which is the lower limit of our sampling. The distribution ranges of individual taxa observed in the dead coral substrates from New Caledonia are much narrower than those reported in the literature for other substrates.The bathymetric model based on distribution of microborers in modern corals was then applied to interpret the trace assemblages of microborers observed in Holocene corals collected by drilling on two reef sites of New Caledonia : La Surprise islet, in the vicinity of the sampling sites of the modern corals, and the barrier reef of Bayes, on the NE coast of Grande Terre. The paleodepth interpretations performed at various levels along the cores allow identification of several shallowing-upward sequences during the last 7000 years of reef growth in New Caledonia. Differences in the thickness of these sequences between La Surprise and Bayes sites were interpreted as differences in the space available for accommodation between the two sites, in turn related to the differential subsidence that affected New Caledonia during Holocene times. The use of the microendolith trace assemblages in paleodepth reconstructions of Holocene reefs from New Caledonia allowed detection of relative sea level variations finer than those deduced from changes in coralgal assemblages.  相似文献

We test the relationship of deep sea benthic foraminiferal assemblage composition to the surface ocean productivity gradient in the low latitude Atlantic Ocean using 81 surface sediment samples from a water depth range between 2800 and 3500 m. The samples are selected so that the surface ocean productivity gradient, controlling the flux of organic carbon to the seabed, will be the most important environmental variable. The first two principal components of the assemblage data account for 73% of data variance and are clearly linked to the productivity gradient across the Atlantic. These components show that under higher productivity the assemblages contain a higher abundance of Uvigerina peregrina, Melonis barleeanum, Globobulimina spp. and other taxa with probable infaunal microhabitats. Alabaminella weddellensis, a species linked to episodic phytoplankton debris falls, is also important in these assemblages. As productivity decreases there is a regular shift in assemblage composition so that low productivity assemblages are dominated by Globocassidulina subglobosa and several Cassidulina species along with Epistominella exigua. We hypothesize that these taxa are epifaunal to very shallow infaunal since nearly all organic carbon oxidation occurs near the sediment-water interface in low productivity settings. Discriminant function analysis of the foraminiferal assemblages, with groups selected on the basis of surface ocean productivity, shows clear separation among five productivity levels we used. This analysis demonstrates that productivity variations have a strong influence on assemblage composition. Finally, we used two groups of samples from the Rio-Grande Rise representing water depths from 2007 to 2340 m and 2739 to 3454 m to test for effects produced by changing water depth. All these samples are from a low productivity region and represent nearly identical environmental conditions. Although the low productivity nature of all the Rio-Grande Rise samples is obvious, there are assemblage differences between our depth groups. We cannot account for the assemblage differences with changes in organic carbon flux, dissolution effects or other physical/chemical properties of the ocean. Thus there are as yet unidentified factors related to water depth which cause some assemblage variation in the low productivity setting we investigated.  相似文献

Radiolarian data provide important age constraints on the development of terranes within the New England orogen and have implications for existing tectonic models. Most radiolarian assemblages recovered from the orogen are of Late Devonian to Early Carboniferous ages. Albaillellaria comprise a minor proportion of the faunas present but have major biostratigraphic significance.Holoeciscus Foreman,Helenifore Nazarov and Ormiston,Circulaforma Cheng,Ceratoikiscum Deflandre,Protoalbaillella Cheng, andAlbaillella Deflandre, two new genera and three new species are found at various stratigraphic levels. Eleven radiolarian assemblages are recognised. There is an apparent biostratigraphic succession amongst the Albaillellaria in the New England orogen in whichProtoholoeciscus hindea n. gen. n. sp. is transitional betweenCeratoikiscum Deflandre andHoloeciscus Foreman andParaholoeciscus bingaraensis n. gen. n. sp. is transitional betweenHoloeciscus Foreman and theAlbaillella paradoxa Deflandre group.  相似文献

The diversity and distribution of fungal endophytes in the leaves of four podocarps (Dacrydium cupressinum, Prumnopitys ferruginea, Dacrycarpus dacrydioides, and Podocarpus totara, all Podocarpaceae) and an angiosperm (Kunzea ericoides, Myrtaceae) occurring in close stands were studied. The effects of host species, locality, and season on endophyte assemblages were investigated. Host species was the major factor shaping endophyte assemblages. The spatial separation of sites and seasonal differences played significant but lesser roles. The mycobiota of each host species included both generalist and largely host-specialised fungi. The host-specialists were often observed at low frequencies on some of the other hosts. There was no clear evidence for family-level specialisation across the Podocarpaceae. Of the 17 species found at similar frequencies on several of the podocarp species, 15 were found also on Kunzea. Many of the endophytes isolated appear to represent species of fungi not previously recognised from New Zealand.  相似文献
