Conodont biostratigraphy of the Famennian and Tournaisian of Sardinia is provided on the basis of all data available in the literature. More than 130 conodont taxa documented from this time-interval allow recognition of nineteen conodont biozones. The zonation scheme adopted here is broadly similar to the standard zonation schemes used in the Upper Devonian and Lower Carboniferous, though a few variations are needed to better accommodate the species occurrences in Sardinia: the velifer Zone and the styriacus Zone have been reintroduced, even though with slightly different meanings than previously used; the Lower praesulcata Zone is expanded to include the Middle praesulcata interval. The Upper praesulcata Zone and the sulcata Zone are missing. All zones are described and discussed and a complete list of bioevents is provided.  相似文献

A core recovered in the North German Basin at the locality of Eulenflucht in the Süntel Mountains, 30 km SE of Hannover, Germany, is interpreted in terms of Oxfordian to Kimmeridgian sequence stratigraphy of this basin. Thirteen different facies are recognized which record the evolution of an outer ramp into a restricted hypersaline lagoon. Changes in grain size, variations in the amount of components, fluctuations of the matrix content and of the microscopic texture, as well as vertical lithofacies stacking patterns, were integrated to define small-scale sequences. Medium-scale sequences were identified by changes in facies combinations of the constituent small-scale sequences. Large-scale sequences were differentiated by facies proportion statistics in the distinct medium-scale sequences. This allows the complete sequence stratigraphic subdivision of the Oxfordian and Kimmeridgian succession to be interpreted. The stable carbon isotopic composition of bulk samples enables a correlation with chemostratigraphic records found elsewhere. This result is supported by an ostracod biostratigraphy that allows a chronostratigraphic assignment of the succession. The large-scale sequences were controlled by climate and local tectonic movements. It is proposed that a long-term shallowing trend during the Kimmeridgian time was induced by regional uplift.  相似文献

The San Salvador Patlanoaya section (Puebla State of Mexico) has been subdivided into seven informal members labeled A–F. Members C–F have been dated as Missourian to Leonardian (equivalent to Kasimovian to Kungurian, i.e. lower Upper Pennsylvanian to upper Lower Permian). Members C–E display a shallowing-upward trend as does member F. The biodiversity of these carbonate deposits outcropping in the San Salvador Patlanoaya section is relatively low, although multiple microfossils (algae, small foraminifera, fusulinids and fish remains) are represented. Member C consists of calcarenitic limestone interpreted as distal tempestites interbedded with shaly limestone facies. These storm beds are composed mainly of silt, sand-sized quartz grains and bioclasts. Member D corresponds to coarse bioclastic limestones represented by calcareous tempestites and channel beds with erosional bases. Member E is composed of green shales and cross-bedded sandstones and gravelly conglomerates. Member F corresponds to a condensed package of limestones and interbedded siliciclastics and is Cisuralian (Early Permian) in age. Member G consists of condensed black shales and limestone nodules. The results of the study have significant implications for recognition of climatic and/or sea-level fluctuations in bioclastic–siliciclastic facies during the Late Pennsylvanian–Early Permian. The skeletal limestones and channel sandstones, common throughout the Pennsylvanian–Permian section, provide a constraint on palaeobathymetry, with the water depth fluctuating frequently around a position below, but near, the storm wave base.  相似文献

In southwestern Mongolia, conodonts from the Indert Formation at its type locality in Shine Jinst were investigated to improve regional and global correlation of the uppermost Devonian–lowermost Carboniferous. The abundance and diversity of the conodont fauna is quite low in general, whereas representatives of Siphonodella, Protognathodus, Pseudopolygnathus, Polygnathus and Bispathodus have been collected from the Indert-Uul section. Five conodont biointervals, from the Bi. costatus-Pr. kockeli Interregnum (ckI) to the Siphonodella sandbergi Zone, could be recognized from the top Heermorit Member and the lower part of the Shombon Member, while the middle and upper parts of the Shombon Member cannot be zoned based on the conodonts. Absence of index fossils Si. sulcata, Pr. kuehni and Pr. kockeli hampered precise recognition of the Devonian–Carboniferous boundary (DCB) at Indert-Uul, but this transition is well delineated by typical uppermost Famennian and Tournaisian conodont assemblages. The DCB is tentatively placed at the base of the Shombon Member, consistent with the lithological boundary and the resuming of carbonate production during the DCB transitional interval.  相似文献

The facies and sequence stratigraphic analyses of the Padeha Formation (Early–Middle Devonian) in the East-Central Iran are based on two measured stratigraphic sections in the Ozbak-Kuh (type section) and Deranjal (Dahaneh-Kalot section) Mountains in the northern Tabas Block, with a thickness of 492 and 320 m respectively. The field observations and laboratory studies were used to identify sixteen lithofacies and four architectural elements. The facies associations were classified into five categories including sandstone (St, Sp, Sr, Sh, Sl), fine grained (siltstone–claystone) or mud rock (Fl), interbedded sandstone–mud rock (Sr(Fl), Sr/Fl, Fl(Sr)), dolomite (Dl and Ds), and evaporate (El, Efl, Efm, Edl). Structural (wave and interference ripples, planar cross-bedding and herringbone, flaser-wavy and lenticular beddings, tepee and stromatolite structures, entrolothic foldings, shrinkage and syneresis cracks, rain drop imprints, and salt casts) and textural (mature–supermature quartzarenite) features, as well as predominant bimodal pattern of paleocurrents in most lithofacies, show that sediments of the Padeha Formation have been deposited in a tidal flat environment. The sandstone, interbedded sandstone–mud rock, and dolomite facies (SB and LA architectural elements) are related to subtidal and intertidal settings, and fine-grained sediments and evaporate facies (consisting of FF and E architectural elements) were deposited in the supratidal and sabkha settings. Detail sequence stratigraphic study led to identification of two 3rd order complete depositional sequences (DS2 and DS3) with SB1 sequence boundaries and two incomplete sequences (DS1 and DS4). Supratidal and sabkha facies were formed during the fall of relative sea level and are related to the lowstand systems tract (LST). The intertidal facies were formed at a rise of relative sea level and are interpreted as transgressive (TST) and highstand (HST) systems tracts.  相似文献

Late Devonian–Early Carboniferous spores recovered from the depths of 2140 m to 2031.3 m in the CSDP-2 Borehole in the southern Yellow Sea are systematically documented to characterize palynological associations for the stratigraphic correlation. The taxonomic study identifies 96 species belonging to 48 genera, including a re-examination of 33 previously described and indeterminate species. Three palynological associations are established for the Wutong Formation in the CSDP-2 Borehole. In ascending order, these are the late Famennian Aneurospora asthenolabrataGeminospora lemurata (AL) Association from the proposed Guanshan Member, the latest Famennian Cymbosporites circinatusAsperispora acuta (CA) Association from the lower part of the proposed Leigutai Member, and the Tournaisian Auroraspora macraLophozonotriletes involutus (MI) Association of the upper part of the latter member. The AL and CA associations are correlated with the palynological assemblages in the Guanshan Member, and those in the lower to middle parts of the Leigutai Member of the Wutong Formation that outcrops in the suburbs of Nanjing and southern Jiangsu. The MI Association is similar to those derived from the uppermost beds of the subsurface Wutong Formation and is dated as early Tournaisian.  相似文献

The Himalaya Terrane of southern Tibet exposes successive shallow-marine carbonate deposits from the Lower to Upper Triassic, and is a key region for studying the Triassic conodont biostratigraphy at the northern margin of the Indian Plate. On the basis of newly collected samples from the Kangshare and Laibuxi formations at the Tulong section, 11 conodont species of 7 genera were identified, and four conodont zones were established, namely, the Novispathodus abruptus Zone (lower Spathian, first reported in Tibet), the Columbitella jubata Zone (middle Spathian), the Triassospathodus symmetricus Zone (upper Spathian), and the Chiosella timorensis Zone (lowermost Anisian) in ascending order. The first occurrence (FO) of Chiosella timorensis indicates the Olenekian–Anisian boundary (OAB) at Bed 25, upper part of the Kangshare Formation. The regional and global correlation of these conodont zones is synthesized.  相似文献

A new arachnid (Chelicerata: Arachnida) from the Lower Carboniferous (Upper Viséan) Szczawno Formation of Kamienna Göra, Poland, is described asSchneidarachne saganii n. gen. et n. sp. Early Carboniferous arachnids are generally rare and this new fossil cannot be easily assigned to any of the known arachnid Orders. It shares a number of features with some members of the arachnid order Solifugae (camel spiders, sun spiders): namely large, forward-projecting, chelate chelicerae with dentate fixed and free fingers, a distinct median sulcus on the carapace and an interrupted ridge of tubercles on the dorsal opisthosoma set into a loosely-defïned median field. However, it lacks unequivocal autapomorphies of Solifugae. This fossil may be one of a growing number of stem-group Palaeozoic arachnids which lack the füll set of diagnostic characters seen in crown-group members of the various orders. Thus,Schneidarachne saganii could represent a basai member of the lineage leading up to modem solifuges.  相似文献

The Devonian–Carboniferous (D–C) transition coincides with the Hangenberg Crisis, carbon isotope anomalies, and the enhanced preservation of organic matter associated with marine redox fluctuations. The proposed driving factors for the biotic extinction include variations in the eustatic sea level, paleoclimate fluctuation, climatic conditions, redox conditions, and the configuration of ocean basins. To investigate this phenomenon and obtain information on the paleo-ocean environment of different depositional facies, we studied a shallow-water carbonate section developed in the periplatform slope facies on the southern margin of South China, which includes a well-preserved succession spanning the D–C boundary. The integrated chemostratigraphic trends reveal distinct excursions in the isotopic compositions of bulk nitrogen, carbonate carbon, organic carbon, and total sulfur. A distinct negative δ15N excursion (~−3.1‰) is recorded throughout the Middle Si. praesulcata Zone and the Upper Si. praesulcata Zone, when the Hangenberg mass extinction occurred. We attribute the nitrogen cycle anomaly to enhanced microbial nitrogen fixation, which was likely a consequence of intensified seawater anoxia associated with increased denitrification, as well as upwelling of anoxic ammonium-bearing waters. Negative excursions in the δ13Ccarb and δ13Corg values were identified in the Middle Si. praesulcata Zone and likely resulted from intense deep ocean upwelling that amplified nutrient fluxes and delivered 13C-depleted anoxic water masses. Decreased δ34S values during the Middle Si. praesulcata Zone suggests an increasing contribution of water-column sulfate reduction under euxinic conditions. Contributions of organic matter produced by anaerobic metabolisms to the deposition of shallow carbonate in the Upper Si. praesulcata Zone is recorded by the nadir of δ13Corg values associated with maximal △13C. The integrated δ15N-δ13C-δ34S data suggest that significant ocean-redox variation was recorded in South China during the D–C transition; and that this prominent fluctuation was likely associated with intense upwelling of deep anoxic waters. The temporal synchrony between the development of euxinia/anoxia and the Hangenberg Event indicates that the redox oscillation was a key factor triggering manifestations of the biodiversity crisis.  相似文献

The siliciclastic, up to 4,000 m thick Upper Triassic–Bajocian Shemshak Formation is widespread across the Iran Plate, especially in the Alborz Mountains of northern Iran. In contrast to its lower, generally non-marine part, the upper part is marine. Based on the Tazareh section of the eastern Alborz, an integrated analysis of this marine interval is presented. The 1,700 m thick marine sedimentary succession records a gradual deepening from inner to mid and outer shelf environments from the Middle Toarcian to early Late Aalenian. During the Late Aalenian–Early Bajocian, the trend was reversed and infilling of the basin by a large delta system occurred. This general facies development reflects a nearly symmetrical transgressive–regressive (T–R) megacycle, terminated by the inter-regional mid-Cimmerian tectonic event. A renewed transgression in the early Late Bajocian initiated a subsequent sedimentary megacycle. The bioturbated mid and outer shelf sediments contain a low to moderately diverse benthic fauna dominated by deep burrowing bivalves, often preserved in the growth position. A hierarchy of four orders of sedimentary cycles can be recognized (parasequences, parasequence sets, unconformity-bounded third-order depositional sequences, and the 13 ma long second-order T–R megacycle). A regional correlation with the Jajarm area (200 km to the east) shows a very similar temporal facies pattern of the upper Shemshak Formation. The eastern Alborz T–R cycle is completely out-of-phase with other (eustatic) sea-level curves, suggesting regional tectonic control. Rough estimates of subsidence rates give an average value of 126 m/ma. However, much higher values for the Aalenian (230 m/ma), particularly the Late Aalenian (700 m/ma), indicate a distinct increase in subsidence rate towards the Early Bajocian mid-Cimmerian tectonic event. These high subsidence rates suggest that the sediments of the Shemshak Formation of the eastern Alborz formed in a (young) rift basin.  相似文献

The author recently discovered among 16 discinid brachiopods from the Lower Devonian Hunsrück Slate, by using the X-ray technique, two specimens with mineralized soft parts and pedicle. These are truly unique finds, as previously no bodily preserved pedicle of fossil discinids has been described. Also, they prove that in the Hunsriick Slate soft parts can be pyritized. New shell observations give rise to doubts on the generic assignment ofOrbiculoidea mediorhenana Fuchs 1915. By comparing the anatomy of the related, livingLingula with the extinct discinid in question, a reconstruction of the latter is presented.  相似文献

The Jahrum Formation act as reservoir rocks in the Zagros Mountains west of Iran. For the study of this formation, a stratigraphic section of Lapoee which is situated north of Shiraz has been examined. Petrographic and stratigraphic results along with field observations show that the Jahrum Formation consists of cream-grey thin-to-medium-bedded limestone so that at the top of the formation, they are locally changed to dolomite. The Jahrum Formation overlies the Sachun Formation. We also found Nubecularids as paleoecology indicators in middle parts of the Jahrum Formation. The presence of Nubecularids in the Lapoee stratigraphic section (i.e. the Jahrum Formation) indicates a lagoon depositional environment.  相似文献

The Lower to Middle Devonian Santa Lucia Formation of NW Spain contains a rich and well-preserved bryozoan fauna. An assemblage containing 14 species is described from two localities in Cantabrian Mountains, Abelgas, and Paradilla. One new genus with one new species is described: Isostylus abelgasensis n. sp. n. gen. Another two new species have been found: Microcampylus minor n. sp. and Acanthoclema parvula n. sp. Additionally, the following species were identified: Cyclotrypa communis (Ulrich 1890), Fistuliphragma gracilis Ernst 2008a, Leioclema attenuatum Duncan 1939, Hemitrypa cf. tenella Barrande in Počta 1894, Fenestella aff. parallela Hall 1881, Anastomopora adnata (Hall 1883), Semicoscinium rhombicum Ulrich 1890, Quadrisemicoscinium discretum (Prantl 1932). Three species are described in open nomenclature: Trepostomata sp. indet.1 and 2, and Semicoscinium sp. The described bryozoan fauna shows connections to the Lower Devonian of Bohemia, and to the Middle Devonian of Rhenish Massif and North America.  相似文献

This paper presents a review of palaeoenvironmental reconstructions of scleractinian corals from the Oligo–Miocene Qom Formation in northeastern Esfahan, central Iran. A total of nine genera and four species of colonial corals are identified, including Platycoenia iranica, Goniopora sp., Porites sp., Tarbellastraea reussiana, Solenastrea sp., Favites neglecta, Leptoria sp., Hydnophora cf. pulchra, Hydnophora sp., and Madracis (?) sp. These corals, all parts of massive colonies, are indicative of a reefal environment, with the main constituents, including Leptoria and Hydnophora, possessing massive meandroid, massive hydnophoroid and massive mushroom- to dome-shaped hydnophoroid colonies. The corals identified here are generally indicative of the upper photic zone and shallow water depths of less than 20 m. In the reefal environment, these corals built a wave-resistant and rigid carbonate framework in the form of a reef-front zone encapsulated by environmental conditions including low sedimentation rates and high wave energy. The occurrence of Goniopora and Porites with distinct calicles reflects clearer waters in the external part of the reefal environment.  相似文献

The beds composing an unconformity at the boundary of the Mikhailovian and Venevian horizons in the Polotnyanyi Zavod quarry (Kaluga Region) are investigated. A detailed study has shown that, at the base of black “rhizoid” limestone, a pedocomplex of two paleosols of different genesis is formed. From below upwards, rocks of subaerial (Paleosol 1 of the rendzina type), subaerial–subaquatic (Paleosol 2 on bog marl), and palustrine genesis replace each other. Both paleosols display a horizontal structure of profiles; the presence of the root systems, imprints of plants, and traces of animal’s activity; the presence of soil new formations (micritic calcite with a light isotopic composition of C, Fe-concretions ). In paleosols, some geochemical indices (PWI, CIA, CIA-K), the ratios Ba/Sr, Rb/Sr, and concentration of Ga increase. The soil complex was formed under conditions of a warm subhumid climate. In the structure and lateral scale of distribution, the object investigated is comparable to the Everglades marsh landscape of Florida (United States).  相似文献

Like other myco-heterotrophic plants, Pterospora andromedea (pinedrops) is dependent upon its specific fungal symbionts for survival. The rarity of pinedrops fungal symbiont was investigated in the eastern United States where pinedrops are rare. Wild populations of eastern pinedrops were sampled, and the plant haplotypes and fungal symbionts were characterized with molecular techniques; these data were compared to those from the West with phylogenetic analyses. The frequency of the fungal symbiont in eastern white pine forests was assessed using a laboratory soil bioassay and in situ pinedrops seed baiting. Only one plant haplotype and fungal symbiont was detected. The plant haplotype was not unique to the East. The fungal symbiont appears to be a new species within the genus Rhizopogon, closely related to the western symbionts. This fungal species was not frequent in soils with or without pinedrops, but was less frequent in the latter and in comparison to the fungal symbionts in western forests. Seed baiting resulted in few germinants, suggesting that mycelial networks produced by the eastern fungal symbiont were rare. Results suggest that eastern pinedrops rarity is influenced by the distribution and rarity of its fungal symbiont.  相似文献
