Halipegus dubius Klein, 1905 is redescribed and illustrated from a Brazilian frog Leptodactylus ocellatus. The type-material of Halipegus genarchella (Travassos, Artigas & Pereira, 1928) and Halipegus parva (Travassos, Artigas & Pereira, 1928) are redescribed with original figures. New synonyms are proposed: Halipegus salmini Yamaguti, 1958 is considered a synonym of H. genarchella, H. tropicus (Manter, 1936) sensu Kloss (1966) of H. parva and Genarchella lenti Fábio, 1984 of H. overstreeti (Brooks, Mayes & Thorson, 1979) n. comb.  相似文献

The genus Genarchella Travassos, Artigas & Pereira, 1928 is reinstated for some species from South American fishes previously attributed to Halipegus Looss, 1899. Aspects of the morphology of G. genarchella Travassos, Artigas & Pereira, 1928 and G. parva Travassos, Artigas & Pereira, 1928 are redescribed. Astyanax bimaculatus, Moenkhausia doceana, Oligosarcus robustus and Salminus maxillosus are recorded as new hosts of G. parva, and H. cryptorchis Mané-Garzon & Gascón, 1973 and H. szidati Yamaguti, 1971 [= G. tropica of Szidat (1954)] are listed amongst new synonyms of this species. Aspects of the morphology of Thometrema magnifica (Szidat, 1954) and T. overstreeti (Brooks, Mayes & Thorson, 1979) are redescribed. T. rioplatense Lunaschi, 1989 is considered a synonym of T. overstreeti. New host-records of T. overstreeti are Pimelodus maculatus and Rhamdia sp. G. genarchella of Hamann (1986) is considered as synonym of T. overstreeti. Paravitellotrema Watson, 1976, Caballeroiella Lamothe-Argumedo, 1977 and Quadripaludus Jimenez, Guajardo & Briseno, 1981 are considered synonyms of Genarchella. The features distinguishing Halipegus, Genarchella and Thometrema Amato, 1968 are discussed.  相似文献

A new species of allocreadiid digenean is described from Priapichthys annectens (Regan) (Osteichthyes: Poeciliidae) in the Area de Conservación Guanacaste, Costa Rica. A new genus, Paracreptotrema, is proposed to accommodate this species as well as Fellodistomum mendezi Songandares-Bernal, 1955, which was previously described from another poeciliid, Brachyrhaphis episcopi, in Panama. Paracreptotrema differs from all other nominal genera of Allocreadiidae by a combination of its symmetrical testes, restricted vitellaria, and the lack of oral lappets (muscular 'papillae') or other such appendages. Paracreptotrema blancoi n. sp. resembles Creptotrema creptotrema Travassos, Artigas and Pereira, 1928, but differs in lacking ventral oral lappets and in having vitellaria extending posteriorly only to the level of the testes. It can be distinguished from P. mendezi n. comb. in having a relatively larger and more posteriorly placed acetabulum, vitellaria that are more restricted anteriorly, smaller testes, and a uterus that does not extend to the posterior end of the body. The genus seems to be restricted to poeciliids in Central America.  相似文献

The infrequently reported allocreadiid digenean Creptotrema funduli Mueller, 1934 is documented from the blackstripe topminnow, Fundulus notatus (Cyprinodontiformes: Fundulidae), in the headwaters of the Biloxi River, Harrison County, Mississippi. Specimens from Mississippi were compared with the type material from Fundulus diaphanus menona from Oneida Lake, New York, and no substantial difference was found. A fragment of ribosomal DNA, comprising a short portion of the 3' end of 18S nuclear rDNA gene, internal transcribed spacer (ITS) genes (including ITS1, 5.8S, and ITS2), and the 5' end of the 28S gene including variable domains D1-D3 was sequenced for the species. A portion of the 28S rDNA gene from C. funduli, plus similar fragments from 8 other allocreadiids and the callodistomatid Prosthenhystera sp., were aligned and subjected to maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference analyses. Resulting phylogenetic trees were derived from the analyses and used to estimate the relationship of Creptotrema Travassos, Artigas, and Pereira, 1928 with other allocreadiids. Creptotrema was found to be closely related to Megalogonia Surber, 1928 and 3 Neotropical genera, i.e., Wallinia Pearse, 1920, Creptotrematina Yamaguti, 1954, and Auriculostoma Scholz, Aguirre-Macedo, and Choudhury, 2004. No molecular data were available for species in Creptotrema prior to this study, so the ITS1, 5.8S, and ITS2 genes have been made available for comparative studies involving neotropical species in the genus.  相似文献

The cystidicolid nematode Cystidicoloides fischeri (Travassos, Artigas and Pereira, 1928) is redescribed from specimens collected from the stomach of the San Francisco piranha, Pygocentrus piraya (Cuvier), and the white piranha, Serrasalmus brandtii (Lütken) (both Characidae, Characiformes) (new host records), from the Três Marias Reservoir, Upper S?o Francisco River, Minas Gerais state, Brazil. The morphology of this type species of Cystidicoloides Skinker, 1931, studied with both light and scanning electron microscopy, is characterized by some taxonomically important, previously unreported features, such as the presence of a cephalic cuticular collarette, subdorsal and subventral cephalic spikes, cuticular tooth-like elevations inside the prostom, deirids, area rugosa, and details in the structure of the cephalic end. Heliconema izecksohni Fabio, 1982 is transferred to Cystidicoloides as C. izecksohni (Fabio, 1982) n. comb. Cystidicoloides uniseriata Valovaya and Valter, 1988 is considered a species inquirenda with uncertain generic appurtenance. The presence of subdorsal and subventral cephalic spikes and the collarette are characteristic of Cystidicoloides, comprising only species parasitizing Neotropical fishes. The species from salmonids in the Holarctic, hitherto reported mostly as Cystidicoloides ephemeridarum (Linstow, 1872), belongs to a different, newly erected genus, for which the name Salmonema n. gen. (type species S. ephemeridarum) is now proposed. Cystidicoloides prevosti (Choquette, 1951) is transferred to Salmonema as S. prevosti (Choquette, 1951) n. comb. Sterliadochona ssavini Skryabin, 1948 and Sterliadochona Skryabin, 1948 are considered as species inquirenda and a genus inquirendum, respectively. A key to species of Cystidicoloides is provided.  相似文献

Pygidiopsis pindoramensis Travassos, 1928, is redescribed from the holotype and specimens obtained from experimental infections of hamsters with metacercariae of the naturally infected poeciliids Poecilia vivipara and Phalloptychus januarius from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Ascocotyle (Phagicola) pindoramensis (Travassos, 1928) n. comb. is proposed, based on the presence of a solid, tapering muscular posterior prolongation of the oral sucker and Ascocotyle (Phagicola) mollienisicola (Sogandares-Bernal and Bridgman, 1960) is synonymized with A. (P.) pindoramensis because of the identical morphology and measurements of adults and metacercariae, similar spectrum of fish intermediate hosts (poeciliids), and the same site of infection of the metacercariae. Trematodes designated as Pygidiopsis pindoramensis, previously reported from Argentina and Mexico, represent another species of Pygidiopsis Looss, 1907, because they possess circumoral spines and their oral sucker is devoid of the posterior muscular prolongation. Data on the surface morphology of metacercariae and adults of A. (P.) pindoramensis are inferred from scanning electron microscopy observations.  相似文献

Acanthotrema armata n. sp. (Trematoda: Heterophyidae) is described from the gut of Larus audouinii Payraudeau (Aves: Laridae) caught on the Chafarinas Islands in the southwestern Mediterranean (Spain). This trematode differs from other species of Acanthotrema Travassos, 1928 in having two spined, sclerotised pieces in the ventrogenital sac and in the position of the genital pore. Parastictodora Martin, 1950 is considered a synonym of Acanthotrema. As the diagnosis of the genus Acanthotrema was based only on its type-species, it is amended to include the characteristics of the new species and those attributed to Parastictodora.  相似文献

The heterophyid trematode Ascocotyle (Ascocotyle) felippei Travassos, 1928, is redescribed and new data on its life cycle are provided, based on types and metacercariae found in the heart bulb and gills of naturally infected guppies, Poecilia vivipara (new fish intermediate host), from a coastal lagoon in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Examination of the type and all voucher specimens of A. (A.) felippei collected by Travassos in the type host and locality in Brazil has shown that they possess only 32 (16 + 16) circumoral spines, rather than 36 (18 + 18) spines as previously reported. Based on the identical number and arrangement of circumoral spines, shape of the body, the presence of a long preoral lobe and posterior muscular prolongation of the oral sucker, short and wide ceca, a simple gonotyl lacking refractile bodies, and the site of infection of metacercariae (predominantly heart bulb), A. (A.) puertoricensis Price, 1932 and A. (A.) tenuicollis Price, 1935, are proposed as new synonyms of A. (A.) felippei.  相似文献

In medicine, the importance of mites in house dust gains importance from day to day. The close relation between these arthropods and man is the cause of a series of health problems such as allergic asthma, rhinitis and/or dermatitis. House dust samples were collected between January and December 1991 in Punta Arenas, city, Chile. Samples were processed by the Artigas and Casanueva (1983) technique, modified by Mu?oz et al. (1983). The isolated specimens were subsequently identified using the Artigas and Casnueva (1983) pictorial key. Of the 134 samples study, 29.1% presented one or more mite species. A total of 13 species were classified. Eight of them were registered for the city of Punta Arenas for the first time. Average weight of the dust analysed was 8.4 g. Mites were found from 0.2 g. onwards. A total of 1768 specimens was collected. The species more representative were: Blomia tjibodas (30.1%), Glycyphagus destructor (22.5%) and Tyrophagus putrescentiae (10.8%). The seasons that presented the higher proportions of mites were autumn (39.4%) and spring (37.1%).  相似文献

Chabirenia cayennensis n. g., n. sp. (Nematoda: Rhabdiasidae) is described from the teiid lizard Ameiva ameiva. A total of 139 worms were recovered, all females, from the mucous glands of the buccal cavity. The worm has a free-living phase in a homogonic life-cycle. Infective larvae are enclosed in a sheath with chequered ornamentation and composed of two exuviae. The new genus is distinct from the five known genera of the family, Pneumonema Johnston, 1916, Acanthorhabdias Pereira, 1927, Entomelas Travassos, 1930, Rhabdias Stiles & Hassall, 1905 and Neoentomelas Hasagawa, 1989, in the following characters: helical habitus, longitudinal cuticular crests, very tiny buccal cavity without thick walls and three oesophageal onchia. Several characters of this new rhabdiasid suggest the Strongylida.  相似文献

Pygidiopsis macrostomum Travassos, 1928, a poorly known species originally described from a single specimen from Rattus norvegicus (Erxleben, 1777) in Brazil, is redescribed on the basis of metacercariae from the mesenteries of naturally infected guppies Poecilia vivipara Bloch and Schneider, 1801 (Poeciliidae), and adults obtained from an experimental infection of hamsters. Pygidiopsis macrostomum is characterized by the absence of oral spines, vitellaria extending forward to ventral sucker, uterus reaching pharyngeal level, X-shaped excretory vesicle, and an oral sucker/acetabulum ratio of 1:0.8. The surface ultrastructure shows that the tegument of the metacercaria does not strongly differ from that of adults. The brush-shaped spines of P. macrostomum are similar to those reported for Pygidiopsis summa and Pygidiopsis ardeae, but no differences in spine shape were observed throughout the body.  相似文献

As part of an ongoing project to substantially increase knowledge of the marine algal flora of the French Pacific territory of New Caledonia, a survey of the Nouméa region was conducted that has resulted in the discovery of 41 previously unrecorded species of macroalgae, including 1 Chlorophyta, 1 Phaeophyceae (Heterokontophyta) and 39 Rhodophyta. Among the biogeographically interesting new records are the green macroalga Rhipilia penicilloides N’Yeurt et Keats (previously endemic to the islands of Fiji some 1000 km east of new Caledonia) and the brown alga Cutleria mollis Allender et Kraft (originally described from Lord Howe Island some 1000 km to the south). The red alga Gloiophloea articulata Weber‐van Bosse, known only from its initial discovery in 1928 from the Mascarene Islands in the western Indian Ocean, is now recorded in the deep‐water channels of the Nouméa region of New Caledonia. The widely distributed Indian Ocean species Corynomorpha prismatica (J. Agardh) J. Agardh has its easternmost distribution record from this area, and Dotyella hawaiiensis (Doty et Wainwright) Womersley et Shepley is recorded for the first time outside its central‐Pacific distribution. These new discoveries represent a 12% increase in the total number of species (377) that are reliably known from New Caledonia.  相似文献

Continental tetrapod coprolites from Uruguay are described for the first time. These remains come from the Piedra Pintada locality (Artigas Department), northern Uruguay, where the Sopas Formation crops out (Upper Pleistocene, Lujanian Stage). It was possible to identify several attributes indicative of a coprolitic origin, such as anisopolar shape, extrusion marks, pointed ends, sutures, gas bubbles, and inclusions. These specimens are assigned to carnivorous mammals, probably large felids, based on morphological attributes and inclusions of rodent bones and teeth.  相似文献

Examination of the stomach contents of 115 Caiman yacare Daudin, 1802, from Paraguay revealed the presence of the nematodes Brevimulticaecum baylisi (Travassos, 1933), Brevimulticaecum stekhoveni (Baylis, 1947), Contracaecum sp. of Railliet and Henry, 1912, Dujardinascaris paulista (Travassos, 1933), Eustrongylides sp. of Jagerskiold, 1909, Micropleura vazi Travassos, 1933, and Ortleppascaris alata (Baylis, 1947). Nematode prevalence was 28%; greatest species prevalence (14%) was found for B. baylisi. Greatest mean intensity, 25.4, was for Contracaecum sp. All occurrences are new host and distribution records.  相似文献

Acanthotrema felis n. sp. (Digenea: Heterophyidae) is described from adult flukes recovered in the small intestine of stray cats caught in the southwestern part of the Republic of Korea. The worms were characterized by minute body size, the presence of a bipartite seminal vesicle, and a ventral sucker associated with a ventrogenital sac, which enclosed 3 sclerites (2 long and pointed, and I short and thumblike), and an unarmed gonotyl. They were assigned to Acanthotrema Travassos, 1928, which currently contains 4 species. The new species resembles A. acanthotrema, the type species, because both have 3 sclerites on the ventrogenital sac. However, all 3 sclerites in the new species are armed with minute spines on their base, whereas only 2 sclerites in A. acanthotrema have minute spines near their tips. Three species of Stictodora Looss, 1899, namely,Stictodora tridactyla Martin and Kuntz, 1955, S. cursitans Kinsella and Heard, 1974, and S. tanayensis Velasquez, 1973, are transferred to Acanthotrema, and the new species is distinguished from them particularly in terms of the number and shape of its sclerites. The generic diagnosis of Acanthotrema is emended.  相似文献

Notocotylus johnstoni n. sp., N. imbricatus (Looss, 1893) Szidat, 1935 and Catatropis nicolli n. sp. are described from the large intestine and caecum of the Australian water rat Hydromys chrysogaster (Rodentia: Muridae). The water rat is the only known mammalian host of notocotylids in Australia. N. imbricatus, recorded from Tasmania, is a cosmopolitan species which elsewhere uses birds and bithyniid snails as definitive and intermediate hosts respectively. In Tasmania bithyniid snails are unknown and the only known definitive host is a mammal. In view of this it is possible that the material examined represents a species distinct from N. imbricatus. Catatropis gallinulae Johnston, 1928 is found to have three rows of ventral papillae and thus to belong to the genus Notocotylus. The new combination Notocotylus gallinulae (Johnston, 1928) is a senior homonym of Notocotylus gallinulae El-Naffar & Khalifa, 1983 which is replaced with Notocotylus elnaffari nom. nov.  相似文献
