Longer life expectancy is resulting in increasing numbers of elderly adults with mental retardation (MR). The objective of the study was to compare lower limb isokinetic muscle power, locomotor performance and flexibility of aged adult mentally-retarded individuals with and without Down's syndrome (DS). Nine subjects with MR and DS (mean age 61), and sixteen subjects with MR and without DS (mean age 63), performed leg power testing on a Biodex dynamometer. Parameters measured were dynamic torque, dynamic torque % body weight, and average power % body weight. Functional performance tests including "Timed Get-Up and Go" and flexibility were also analyzed and compared. Results indicate that in knee extension and flexion isokinetic power the MR group without DS showed significantly higher scores than the MR group with DS. The functional performance of elderly adults with MR and DS was significantly impaired compared with MR adults without DS, although no differences were observed between the two groups in the flexibility tests. It was concluded that muscle leg power, and gross motor performance of elderly mentally-retarded individuals without Down's syndrome is better than in those with Down's syndrome.  相似文献

This study compared isokinetic leg strength of aged individuals with mental retardation (MR) with and without Down's syndrome (DS). Nine subjects with MR and DS (mean age = 61) and 16 subjects with MR but without DS (mean age = 63) performed a leg strength test on a Biodex dynamometer. Parameters measured were peak torque, peak torque percent body weight (ratio displayed as a percentage of the maximum torque production to the subject's body weight), and average power percent body weight. In addition, anthropometric measurements (height, weight, skinfolds, and body mass index) and intelligence quotient (IQ) were also analyzed and compared. The results indicate a significant increase of scores for isokinetic knee extension and flexion in the group with MR but without DS over the subjects in the group with MR and DS. As a group, the individuals with MR and DS tended to be smaller and fatter. No significant difference in IQ was observed between the 2 groups with MR. It was concluded that the strength of individuals with MR but without DS is greater than the group of subjects with MR and DS. When comparing their results to aged individuals without MR, a significant decline in muscle strength can be observed among people with MR.  相似文献

Plyometric training programs have been implemented in anterior cruciate ligament injury prevention programs. Plyometric exercises are designed to aid in the improvement of muscle strength and neuromuscular control. Our purpose was to examine the effects of plyometric training on lower leg strength in women. Thirty (age = 20.3 ± 1.9 years) recreationally active women were divided into control and experimental groups. The experimental group performed a plyometric training program for 6 weeks, 3 d·wk(-1). All subjects attended 4 testing sessions: before the start of the training program and after weeks 2, 4, and 6. Concentric quadriceps and hamstring strength (dominant leg) was assessed using an isokinetic dynamometer at speeds of 60 and 120°·s(-1). Peak torque, average peak torque, and average power (AvgPower) were measured. The results revealed a significant (p < 0.05) interaction between time and group for flexion PkTq and AvgPower at 120°·s(-1). Post hoc analysis further revealed that PkTq at 120°·s(-1) was greater in the plyometric group than in the control group at testing session 4 and that AvgPower was greater in the plyometric group than in the control group in testing sessions 2-4. Our results indicate that the plyometric training program increased hamstring strength while maintaining quadriceps strength, thereby improving the Q:H strength ratio.  相似文献

When basketball players play against each other in a game, better coordinated balance can give them a better advantage. This paper briefly introduces the coordination balance and core strength of basketball players. Twenty basketball varsity members were selected from Chengdu College of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China as subjects for the test. The athletes were randomly divided into a control group and an experimental group. The control group received regular strength training, and the experimental group received core strength training in addition to regular training. Both groups underwent isometric muscle strength test, coordination and balance test and shooting percentage test before and after training. The results demonstrated that muscle group strength increased in the control group after conventional training, but the experimental group showed more significant improvement in muscle group strength after additional core strength training; the experimental group had better coordination and balance ability after core strength training; the experimental group had a significantly higher shooting percentage after core strength training due to the improvement of coordination and balance ability.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of 2 days of isokinetic training of the forearm flexors and extensors on strength and electromyographic (EMG) amplitude for the agonist and antagonist muscles. Seventeen men (mean +/- SD age = 21.9 +/- 2.8 years) were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 groups: (a) a training group (TRN; n = 8), or (b) a control group (CTL; n = 9). The subjects in the TRN group were tested for maximal isometric and concentric isokinetic (randomly ordered velocities of 60, 180, and 300 degrees x s(-1)) torque of the dominant forearm flexors and extensors before (pretest) and after (posttest) 2 days of isokinetic strength training. Each training session involved 6 sets of 10 maximal concentric isokinetic muscle actions of the forearm flexors and extensors at a velocity of 180 degrees x s(-1). The subjects in the CTL group were also tested for strength but did not perform any training. Surface EMG signals were detected from the biceps brachii and triceps brachii muscles during the strength testing. The results indicated that there were no significant (p > 0.05) pre- to post-test changes in forearm flexion and extension torque or EMG amplitude for the agonist and antagonist muscles. Thus, unlike previous studies of the quadriceps femoris muscles, these findings for the forearm flexors and extensors suggested that 2 days of isokinetic training may not be sufficient to elicit significant increases in strength. These results may have implications for the number of visits that are required for rehabilitation after injury, surgery, or both.  相似文献

Exercise training programs can increase strength and improve submaximal force control, but the effects of yoga as an alternative form of steadiness training are not well described. The purpose was to explore the effect of a popular type of yoga (Bikram) on strength, steadiness, and balance. Young adults performed yoga training (n = 10, 29 +/- 6 years, 24 yoga sessions in 8 weeks) or served as controls (n = 11, 26 +/- 7 years). Yoga sessions consisted of 1.5 hours of supervised, standardized postures. Measures before and after training included maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) force of the elbow flexors (EF) and knee extensors (KE), steadiness of isometric EF and KE contractions, steadiness of concentric (CON) and eccentric (ECC) KE contractions, and timed balance. The standard deviation (SD) and coefficient of variation (CV, SD/mean force) of isometric force and the SD of acceleration during CON and ECC contractions were measured. After yoga training, MVC force increased 14% for KE (479 +/- 175 to 544 +/- 187 N, p < 0.05) and was unchanged for the EF muscles (219 +/- 85 to 230 +/- 72 N, p > 0.05). The CV of force was unchanged for EF (1.68 to 1.73%, p > 0.05) but was reduced in the KE muscles similarly for yoga and control groups (2.04 to 1.55%, p < 0.05). The variability of CON and ECC contractions was unchanged. For the yoga group, improvement in KE steadiness was correlated with pretraining steadiness (r = -0.62 to -0.84, p < 0.05); subjects with the greatest KE force fluctuations before training experienced the greatest reductions with training. Percent change in balance time for individual yoga subjects averaged +228% (19.5 +/- 14 to 34.3 +/- 18 seconds, p < 0.05), with no change in controls. For young adults, a short-term yoga program of this type can improve balance substantially, produce modest improvements in leg strength, and improve leg muscle control for less-steady subjects.  相似文献

Five monozygotic twin pairs were submitted to a 10-week isokinetic strength training program and biochemical characteristics measured before and after training to determine the role of heredity in skeletal muscle adaptation, while 5 unrelated sedentary subjects served as control group. Experimental subjects performed twice 3 series of 5 bilateral reciprocal alternating knee flexions and extensions at a velocity of 90 degrees/s 5 times per week. Before and after the training period, for each subject, the peak muscular torque output was measured at the same velocity and the vastus lateralis muscle was biopsied for biochemical determinations. No significant change was observed in the control group. Training increased peak muscular torque output by 24%. The activities of hexokinase, malate dehydrogenase and 3-hydroxyacyl CoA dehydrogenase also increased significantly by 28, 26 and 38%, respectively. Interindividual variations in the response of these variables to training were noted but these were shown to be independent of the genotype. No overall effect of training was observed for oxoglutarate dehydrogenase activity (OGDH). However, changes were seen in individual pairs of twins and these were in opposite directions in some pairs compared to others, thus explaining the absence of a general training effect. Significant intrapair resemblance in the training response was present for OGDH (r = 0.76), indicating that the sensitivity to isokinetic strength training for OGDH was highly variable, not random and probably genetically determined.  相似文献

目的:探讨核心力量练习对中老年男性平衡能力的影响,为运动锻炼改善老年人平衡能力和降低跌倒风险提供依据。方法:选取16名50~60岁男性中老年人,随机分为试验组(核心力量练习)和对照组,每组8人。利用悬吊绳和瑜伽垫进行动、静态支撑与推拉练习以及徒手下肢力量等间歇性组合核心力量训练,共练习10周,每周4~5次,每次50~60 min。对照组保持原有生活习惯。锻炼前后测定受试者静态平衡和动态平衡等指标。结果:①锻炼后试验组闭眼单脚站立时间和动态平衡得分较锻炼前显著升高分别为(9.00±2.27) s、(10.63±1.69) s,P<0.01;(77.38±10.94)、(89.50±5.53),P<0.01。②锻炼后试验组星形伸展平衡测试(SEBT),右腿支撑时左腿在8个方向、左腿支撑时右腿在6个方向的SEBT值均较锻炼前显著增加(P<0.01)。结论:10周核心力量练习显著提高男性中老年人的动、静态平衡能力。  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of an 18-week strength training program on variables related to low-handicap golfers' performance. Ten right-handed male golfers, reporting a handicap of 5 or less, were randomly divided into two groups: the control group (CG) (N = 5, age: 23.9 ± 6.7 years) and the treatment group (TG) (N = 5, age: 24.2 ± 5.4 years). CG players followed the standard physical conditioning program for golf, which was partially modified for the TG. The TG participated in an 18-week strength training program divided into three parts: maximal strength training including weightlifting exercises (2 days a week for 6 weeks), explosive strength training with combined weights and plyometric exercises (2 days a week for 6 weeks), and golf-specific strength training, including swings with a weighted club and accelerated swings with an acceleration tubing system (3 days a week for 6 weeks). Body mass, body fat, muscle mass, jumping ability, isometric grip strength, maximal strength (RM), ball speed, and golf club mean acceleration were measured on five separate occasions. The TG demonstrated significant increases (p < 0.05) in maximal and explosive strength after 6 weeks of training and in driving performance after 12 weeks. These improvements remained unaltered during the 6-week golf-specific training period and even during a 5-week detraining period. It may be concluded that an 18-week strength training program can improve maximal and explosive strength and these increases can be transferred to driving performance; however, golfers need time to transfer the gains.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to determine whether the resisted-sprint in overstrength (OSt) or the assisted-sprint in overspeed (OSp) could be efficient training methods to increase 100-m front crawl performance. Thirty-seven (16 men, 21 women) competition-level swimmers (mean +/- SD: age 17.5 +/- 3.5 years, height 173 +/- 14 cm, weight 63 +/- 14 kg) were randomly divided into 3 groups: OSt, OSp, and control (C). All swimmers trained 6 days per week for 3 weeks, including 3 resisted or assisted training sessions per week for the groups OSt and OSp respectively. Elastic tubes were used to generate swimming overstrength and overspeed. Three 100-m events were performed before, during, and after the training period. Before each 100-m event, strength of the elbow flexors and extensors was measured with an isokinetic dynamometer. Stroke rate and stroke length were evaluated using the video-recorded 100-m events. In the OSt group, elbow extensor strength, swimming velocity, and stroke rate significantly increased (p < 0.05), while stroke length remained unchanged after the 3-week training period. In the OSp group, stroke rate significantly increased (p < 0.05) and stroke length significantly decreased (p < 0.05) without changes in swimming velocity. No significant variations in the C group were observed. Both OSt and OSp proved to be more efficient than the traditional training program. However, the OSt training program had a larger impact on muscle strength, swimming performance, and stroke technique than the OSp program.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between variables of static and dynamic postural control as well as between isometric and dynamic muscle strength. A single-group design was used. Thirty-two middle-aged healthy adults (mean age: 56 ± 4 years) performed measurements of static (unperturbed)/dynamic (perturbed) balance and of isometric (i.e., maximal isometric torque [MIT]; rate of torque development [RTD] of the plantar flexor)/dynamic (i.e., countermovement jump [CMJ] height and power) lower extremity muscle strength. No significant associations were observed between variables of static and dynamic postural control (r = +0.128-0.341, p > 0.05) and between measures of balance and strength (r = -0.189 to +0.316, p > 0.05). Significant positive correlations were detected between variables of isometric and dynamic strength ranging from r = +0.361 to +0.501 (p < 0.05). Further, simple regression analyses revealed that a 10% increase in the mean CMJ height (3.1 cm) was associated with 44.4 N·m and 118.4 N·m·s better MIT and RTD, respectively. The nonsignificant correlations between static and dynamic balance measures and between balance and strength variables imply that static and dynamic postural control and balance and strength are independent of each other and may have to be tested and trained complementarily.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of prolonged basketball skills training on maximal aerobic power, isokinetic strength, joint mobility, and body fat percentage, in young basketball players, and controls of the same age. Twenty basketball players and 18 control boys participated in the study. Basketball players participated both in their school's physical education program and in a children's basketball team training program. Controls participated only in their school's physical education program. All subjects were tested every 6 months (18 months total, 11(1/2), 12, 12(1/2), 13 years old) for VO(2)max, peak torque values of the quadriceps and hamstrings at 180 and 300 degrees x s(-1) and range of motion of the knee and hip joints. Body fat percentage was assessed at the beginning and the end of the experimental period. Results showed that the basketball group had lower heart rate values in all ages and higher VO(2) values in the initial test compared with the control in submaximal intensity. The VO(2)max was altered in both groups on the final test, when compared to the initial test. However, the basketball group had a higher VO(2)max on each of the 6-month follow-up measurements, compared to the control group (p < 0.001). At the end of the 18-month follow-up period no significant differences were observed in isokinetic strength and joint mobility of the lower limbs between the 2 groups. On the contrary, the boys of the trained group had significantly lower percentage body fat values, compared to controls. In conclusion, regular basketball training increased aerobic power and decreased body fat percentage of prepubescent boys, while it did not affect muscle strength and joint mobility of the lower limbs. The major implication suggested by the findings of the present study is that, in order to improve the basic physical components, specific training procedures should be incorporated during the basketball training sessions. It is recommended that all children should be involved in some type of cardiovascular and resistance training program.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the strength, electromyographic (EMG), and mechanomyographic (MMG) responses after workouts designed to elicit fatigue and muscle damage vs. only fatigue. Thirteen men (mean ± SD age = 23.7 ± 2.2 years) performed 6 sets of 10 maximal concentric isokinetic (CONexercise) or eccentric isokinetic (ECCexercise) muscle actions of the dominant forearm flexors on 2 separate days. Before (PRE) and after (POST) these workouts, peak torque (PT), surface EMG, and MMG signals were measured during maximal concentric isokinetic, eccentric isokinetic, and isometric muscle actions of the forearm flexors. The subjects also visited the laboratory for a control (CTL) visit with quiet resting between the PRE and POST measurements, rather than performing the CONexercise or ECCexercise. The results showed that there were significant 26 and 25% decreases in PT after the CONexercise and ECCexercise, respectively, and these decreases were statistically equivalent for the concentric, eccentric, and isometric muscle actions. There were also 19 and 23% reductions in normalized EMG amplitude after the CONexercise and ECCexercise, respectively, but no changes in EMG mean frequency (MNF), MMG amplitude, or MMG MNF. These findings demonstrated a neural component(s) to the strength decrement after CONexercise and ECCexercise. It is possible that after these 2 types of exercise, activation of free nerve endings that are sensitive to muscle damage and pH changes resulted in inhibition of alpha motor neurons, causing decreased muscle activation and torque. These findings suggest that training programs designed to minimize strength loss during competition should consider the fact that at least some of this loss is because of neural factors.  相似文献

AimLoss of muscle strength and balance are main characteristics of physical frailty in old age. Postural sway is associated with muscle contractile capacity and to the ability of rapidly correcting ankle joint changes. Thus, resistance training would be expected to improve not only strength but also postural balance.MethodsIn this study, age-matched older individuals (69.9±1.3 years) were randomly assigned to flywheel (n=12), or weight-lifting (n=12) groups, training the knee extensors thrice weekly for 12 weeks. The hypotheses were that owing to a larger eccentric loading of the knee extensors, flywheel training would result in (a) greater gains in quadriceps strength; (b) greater improvements in balance performance compared with weight-lifting training. Isokinetic dynamometry, B-mode ultrasonography, electromyography, percutaneous muscle stimulation and magnetic resonance imaging were employed to acquire the parameters of interest.ResultsFollowing training, knee extensors peak isokinetic power increased by 28% (P<0.01) in the flywheel group with no change in the weight-lifting group. Adaptations of the gastrocnemius muscle also occurred in both groups. The gastrocnemius characteristic with the highest response to training was tendon stiffness, with increases of 54% and 136% in the weight-lifting and flywheel groups, respectively (P<0.01). The larger increase in tendon stiffness in the flywheel group was associated with an improvement in postural balance (P<0.01).ConclusionQuadriceps flywheel loading not only produces a greater increase in power than weight training but its physiological benefits also transfer/overspill to the plantarflexor muscle–tendon unit resulting in a significantly improved balance. Old adults show a decreased recovery performance compared to young ones after unexpected perturbations increasing the risk of falls. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to examine the effect of a specific training of mechanisms responsible for dynamic stability on the recovery performance of old adults after simulated forward falls and the contribution of muscle strength exercise. 38 old adults (two experimental groups each n=13 and a control group, n=12) participated in the study. Group 1 exercised the mechanisms responsible for dynamic stability like increase in base of support and counter-rotating segments around the centre of mass by practicing specific tasks including these mechanisms. Group 2 exercised these mechanisms of dynamic stability and muscle strength. The exercise volume was equal in both interventions (14 weeks, two times per week and ~1.5 h per session). Stability performance has been examined by simulated forward falls before and after the intervention. The two experimental groups improved in a similar extent (~35%) their ability to regain balance during forward falls after the intervention. The reason was a faster increase in base of support. Further, the performance enhancement was related to an increase in the rate of hip moment generation. Exercising the mechanisms responsible for dynamic stability control in old adults affects their ability to regain balance after forward falls. A faster utilization of these mechanisms due to improved neuromuscular coordination resulted in the significant performance enhancement.  相似文献

The purpose of this investigation was to determine the mechanomyographic (MMG) amplitude and mean power frequency (MPF) versus torque (or force) relationships during isokinetic and isometric muscle actions of the biceps brachii. Ten adults (mean +/- SD age = 21.6 +/- 1.7 years) performed submaximal to maximal isokinetic and isometric muscle actions of the dominant forearm flexors. Following determination of isokinetic peak torque (PT) and the isometric maximum voluntary contraction (MVC), the subjects randomly performed submaximal step muscle actions in 10% increments from 10% to 90% PT and MVC. Polynomial regression analyses indicated that MMG amplitude increased linearly with torque during both the isokinetic (r2 = 0.982) and isometric (r2 = 0.956) muscle actions. From 80% to 100% of isometric MVC, however, MMG amplitude appeared to plateau. Cubic models provided the best fit for the MMG MPF versus isokinetic (R2 = 0.786) and isometric (R2 = 0.940) torque relationships, although no significant increase in MMG MPF was found from 10% to 100% of isokinetic PT. For the isometric muscle actions, however, MMG MPF remained relatively stable from 10% to 50% MVC, increased from 50% to 80% MVC, and decreased from 80% to 100% MVC. The results demonstrated differences in the MMG amplitude and MPF versus torque relationships between the isokinetic and isometric muscle actions. These findings suggested that the time and frequency domains of the MMG signal may be useful for describing the unique motor control strategies that modulate dynamic versus isometric torque production.  相似文献

Nine adults (mean +/- SD age = 23.1 +/- 2.9 years) performed submaximal to maximal eccentric isokinetic muscle actions of the dominant forearm flexors. After determination of isokinetic peak torque (PT), the subjects randomly performed submaximal step muscle actions in 10% increments from 10 to 90% PT. Polynomial regression analyses indicated that the MMG amplitude vs. eccentric isokinetic torque relationship was best fit with a quadratic model (R(2) = 0.951), where MMG amplitude increased from 10 to 60% PT and then plateaued from 60 to 100% PT. There were linear increases in MMG MPF (r(2) = 0.751) and EMG amplitude (r(2) = 0.988) with increases in eccentric isokinetic torque, but there was no significant change in EMG MPF from 10 to 100% PT. The results suggested that for the biceps brachii, eccentric isokinetic torque was increased to approximately 60% PT through concurrent modulation of the number of active motor units and their firing rates, whereas additional torque above 60% PT was produced only by increases in firing rates. These findings contribute to current knowledge of motor-control strategies during eccentric isokinetic muscle actions and could be useful in the design of training programs.  相似文献

This study examines the effects of a 16-week Tai Chi (TC) training program on the muscle strength, endurance, and reaction time of the lower extremities of elderly people. A total of 40 elderly individuals (aged ?60 years) completed the study. They were divided into two groups: the TC group (11 men and 11 women) underwent a supervised TC exercise program for 16 weeks, while the control group (9 men and 9 women) received general education for a comparable time period. Pre- and post-intervention measurements were conducted. An isokinetic dynamometer was used to measure the maximum concentric strength and dynamic endurance of the knee flexors and the extensors, and the maximum concentric strength of the ankle plantarflexors and dorsiflexors. The neuromuscular response of the rectus femoris, semitendinosus, gastrocnemius, and anterior tibialis muscles was measured by the onset latency to sudden perturbations using an electromyography system. After 16 weeks, the TC group showed a 19.9% increase in muscle strength of the knee flexors (p<.000) that was significantly greater than that in the control group (p=.046). There was also a significant decrease in semitendinosus muscle latency (6.6%, p=.014) that was significantly shorter than that in the control group (p=.042). No significant training effects were found in other measures. These results suggest that improving biomechanical characteristics of lower extremity muscles may need longer TC intervention for elderly people.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to examine whether six weeks of endurance training minimizes the effects of fatigue on postural control during dynamic postural perturbations. Eighteen healthy volunteers were assigned to either a 6-week progressive endurance training program on a cycle ergometer or a control group. At week 0 and 7, dynamic exercise was performed on an ergometer until exhaustion and immediately after, the anterior–posterior centre of pressure (COP) sway was analyzed during full body perturbations. Maximal voluntary contractions (MVC) of the knee flexors and extensors, muscle fiber conduction velocity (MFCV) of the vastus lateralis and medialis during sustained isometric knee extension contractions, and power output were measured. Following the training protocol, maximum knee extensor and flexor force and power output increased significantly for the training group with no changes observed for the control group. Moreover, the reduction of MFCV due to fatigue changed for the training group only (from 8.6% to 3.4%). At baseline, the fatiguing exercise induced an increase in the centre of pressure sway during the perturbations in both groups (>10%). The fatiguing protocol also impaired postural control in the control group when measured at week 7. However, for the training group, sway was not altered after the fatiguing exercise when assessed at week 7. In summary, six weeks of endurance training delayed the onset of muscle fatigue and improved the ability to control balance in response to postural perturbations in the presence of muscle fatigue. Results implicate that endurance training should be included in any injury prevention program.  相似文献

摘要 目的:探讨等速肌力训练联合上肢康复机器人在脑卒中恢复期偏瘫患者中的应用效果。方法:根据随机数字表法,将2020年1月-2022年12月期间合肥市第二人民医院收治的136例脑卒中恢复期偏瘫患者分为对照组(n=68,等速肌力训练)与观察组(n=68,等速肌力训练联合上肢康复机器人干预)。两组均干预3周,观察两组Fugl-Meyer上肢运动功能量表(FMA-UL)评分、改良Barthel指数(MBI)评分、偏瘫Brunnstrom分级、表面肌电图相关指标和生活质量评分变化情况。结果:观察组干预3周后FMA-UL、MBI评分高于对照组(P<0.05)。观察组干预3周后IV级患者例数多于对照组(P<0.05)。观察组干预3周后肱二头肌、肱三头肌、三角肌前束、三角肌中束的均方根值(RMS)和积分肌电值(iEMG)高于对照组(P<0.05)。观察组干预3周后生理职能、躯体疼痛、生理功能、总体健康、精神健康、活力、情感职能、社会功能各维度评分高于对照组(P<0.05)。结论:脑卒中恢复期偏瘫患者经等速肌力训练、上肢康复机器人联合干预,可促进偏瘫上肢肌肉激活和运动单位募集同步化,改善上肢肌力,提高患者的生活质量。  相似文献
