Total Hg contents from abiotic (surface sediments and suspendedparticulate matter) and biological (crabs, fishes and halophytes)compartments from Bahía Blanca estuary and Mar Chiquita CoastalLagoon, Argentina, have been monitored since the 1980's. At BahíaBlanca estuary, high Hg concentrations were recorded during the early1980's in surface sediments (0.34 ± 0.22 g/g) andsuspended particulate matter (0.19 ± 0.10 g/g). Fishspecies, Mustelus schmitti (0.89 ± 0.29 g/g), Paralichthys brasiliensis (0.85 ± 0.18 g/g) and Micropogonias furnieri (0.37 ± 0.11 g/g) also presentedhigh Hg concentrations. The large industrial nucleus located within theestuary has been identified as the main metal source for this environment.Hg contents from the same area during 1996–1998 were significantlylower: surface sediments (0.164 ± 0.023 g/g), suspendedparticulate matter (0.048 ± 0.0017 g/g), fish Micropogonias furnieri (0.13 ± 0.02 g/g) and crab Chasmagnathus granulata (0.334 ± 0.071 g/g). This trendof environmental detoxification is probably related with (i) thetechnological changes incorporated by the local industry, (ii) a mostadequate management of industrial effluents, and (iii) the removal ofgreat sediment volume by dredging and refill.During the 1980's Mar Chiquita Lagoon Hg concentrations reached 0.08± 0.01 g/g in surface sediments and 0.09 ±0.025 g/g in suspended particulate matter, and 0.14 ±0.04 g/g in the fish Basilichthys bonariensis and 0.22 ±0.08 g/g in Paralichthys brasiliensis, and 0.08 ±0.01 g/g in the crab C. granulata, Hg concentrations werelower than at Bahía Blanca. Remote Hg sources for this Coastal Lagoonand atmospheric and stream transport of Hg is proposed as major Hgsources, since no Hg point sources exists nearby. Mercury concentrationsrecorded in the 1996–1998 period were lower than those recorded inthe previous decade: surface sediments (0.019 ± 0.004 g/g), suspended particulate matter (0.030 ± 0.008 g/g), halophyte Spartina densiflora (0.013 ± 0.008 g/g) or crab C. granulata (0.011 ± 0.009 g/g).Both Hg bioaccumulation and biomagnification processes were verified inBahía Blanca estuary and in Mar Chiquita Coastal Lagoon. This apparentrecovery of both estuarine environments deserves to be carefully analyzed,in order to fully understand the foundations of these processes.  相似文献

The ultrastructure of the X-Y pair from rat spermatocytes has been reconstructed sterically by the study of serial sections. The X-Y pair of the rat at early pachytene contains two dense cores, a long and a short one, which form a synaptonemal complex 1.7 long at their common end. The long core (10.6 ) and the short core (4.5 ) correspond to X and Y, respectively. There is no RNA histochemically detectable in the X-Y pair. Nucleoli are independent of the X-Y pair. A low number of cells show nucleoli very near the X-Y pair but no continuity exists between these structures.  相似文献

In an attempt to detect differences in the thermal effect of infrared irradiation of different wavelengths, transient sweating response to infrared irradiation in various spectral regions was examined. In Series 1, the ventral or dorsal surface of the nude subject was irradiated repetitively for a period of 4 min (2 min on, 2 min off) by each of three kinds of infrared heaters with main emissivity in near-infrared (NIR; 0.7–2.8 m), intermediate-infrared (MIR; 1.5–5.8 m), and far-infrared (FIR; 2.8–25 m) regions. The sweating response on a non-irradiated area tended to be the greatest with MIR, while the magnitude of the sweating response on the irradiated area showed no consistent differences among various wavelengths. The results infer that MIR stimulated cutaneous thomoreceptors most effectively, while its direct effect on local sweat gland activity was minimal. In Series 2, the effects of 9–12 min irradiations in more restricted ranges of wavelength were compared by the combination of the three kinds of heaters with filters (translucent to wavelength ranges of 1.3–2.7, 2.7–3.5, 3.6–8.0 m, respectively). The sweating response on a remote area was predominantly greater with the range of 2.7–3.5 m than with the other wavelength ranges, while the local effect on sweating was minimal with this range. The results of Series 2 reinforce those of Series 1, indicating that the degree of stimulation of cutaneous thermoreceptors and of direct thermal effect on sweat gland activity differ with spectral regions incident on the skin, thus affecting local and remote effects on the sweating response.  相似文献

Prostrate cells of Micrasterias thomasiana Archer were irradiated from above with intensive blue light. Many of the cells reacted by rising to a profile position. During a period of 15 to 90 min the response is linearly dependent on the duration of irradiation, inferred from the number of rising cells. In a range from 10 to 30 mol m-2 s-1 (equalling 2.7–8.0 W m-2 at a wavelength of 450 nm) and for an irradiation time of 30 min, the rising reaction was linearly dependent on the quantum flux density. Choosing 30 min irradiation time and a quantum flux density of 30 mol m-2 s-1, the reactive number of rising cells was employed in establishing an action spectrum. As a result of this, a flavin is postulated as the light-percepting pigment in the reaction, whereas chlorophylls do not appear to be involved. The rising reaction can be distinguished from other light-induced movements as a strong-light response, resembling in this respect the movement of chloroplasts within cells. The different sensitivity of individual cells and the importance of this strong-light response for the algal cells is discussed.  相似文献

The TALL-104 cell line, originally derived from a patient with T cell leukemia, can be maintained indefinitely in culture in the presence of interleukin-2 (IL-2) and is endowed with a highly potent major-histocompatibilitycomplex (MHC)-non-restricted tumoricidal activity both in vitro and in animal models. The present study analyzes in detail the short- and long-term effects of irradiation and cyclosporin A (CsA) treatment on the growth and tumoricidal function of this T cell clone as compared to polyclonal lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cell preparations from healthy donors. DNA and RNA syntheses by both TALL-104 and LAK cells were irreversibly arrested a few hours after irradiation with 40 Gy. However, 4-h51Cr-release assays, performed on different days (day 1 to day 7) after irradiation, showed that the cytotoxic efficiency of TALL-104 cells against hematopoietic and solid tumor targets was only modestly reduced, whereas that of LAK cells was severely inhibited. Moreover, the cytotoxic responses to recombinant human IL-2 and IL-12, measured 18 h after irradiation and cytokine addition, were normal in the case of TALL-104 cells but were abolished in the case of LAK cells. Co-culture of IL-2-or IL-12-preactivated TALL-104 cells with a tumor target for 5 days in the absence of cytokines resulted in a lower efficiency of lysis, as compared to the non-irradiated effectors, especially if the initial stimulus was IL-12. These findings suggest the requirement of multiple cytokine stimulation for optimal expression of tumoricidal activity by lethally irradiated TALL-104 cells. CsA, while abrogating TALL-104 cell proliferation at the low dose of 0.5 g/ml, inhibited their cytotoxic function marginally only at high doses (100 g/ml). By contrast, CsA reduced dose-dependently the cytotoxicity of LAK cells starting at very low doses (0.5 g/ml). CsA did not impair the ability of TALL-104 and LAK cells to produce interferon (IFN), tumor necrosis factor (TNF) , and granulocyte/macrophage-colony-stimulatory factor (GM-CSF) in response to IL-2, IL-12, or tumor targets. Irradiation reduced drastically IFN production by LAK, but not TALL-104 cells; release of TNF and GM-CSF by either type of effector was inhibited by 10%–50%, depending on the stimulus. The high resistance of the TALL-104 cells' tumoricidal function to irradiation and immunosuppressive drugs renders this immortal T cell clone a potentially safe and effective reagent for new adoptive-transfer approaches to cancer in MHC-incompatible recipients.  相似文献

Effects of Pb2+, Ni2+, Hg2+ and Se4+ on cultured human glioma U-343MG cells were investigated considering uptake, toxicity and, in combination with radiation, clonogenic cell survival. The cells were exposed to 0-100 m of the metals for a week before the evaluation. The tests showed a tendency to toxicity with 10 m nickel although not significant (P > 0.05). Selenium, lead and mercury exerted a significant toxicity (P < 0.05) at 2.5 m, 10 m and 1 m, respectively. To challenge the clonogenic cell survival capacity, the cells were irradiated with60Co photons after being exposed to the highest nontoxic concentration of the different metals. The clonogenic cell survival tests, after irradiation, showed no significant change if the cells were exposed to 5 m nickel, 0.5 m selenium or 5 m lead compared with those not exposed. Mercury, 0.1 m, gave a relative reduction in survival compared with only irradiated cells of 58 ± 17%. Thus, only mercury affected the radiation-induced damage and/or repair. When exposed to the highest nontoxic concentrations of the different metals, the cultures did not display a significant uptake ratio (metal concentration ratio of exposed cells to control cells) of nickel (3.1 ± 3.3), only a small uptake ratio of selenium (4.0 ± 0.4), while there was a large uptake ratio of both lead (2.6 ± 1.7) x 102 and mercury (1.5 ± 0.2) x 101. The results indicated that nickel was neither especially toxic nor influenced the clonogenic cell survival after irradiation. Mercury was more toxic and also influenced the radiation sensitivity. Lead was taken up strongly but did not influence the radiation sensitivity. Selenium accumulated but gave no detectable effect on the radiation sensitivity.  相似文献

This study explores the physiological correlates of a highly practiced Kundalini Yoga meditator. Thoracic and abdominal breathing patterns, heart rate (HR), occipital parietal electroencephalograph (EEG), skin conductance level (SCL), and blood volume pulse (BVP) were monitored during prebaseline, meditation, and postbaseline periods. Visual analyses of the data showed a decrease in respiration rate during the meditation from a mean of 11 breaths/min for the pre- and 13 breaths/min for the postbaseline to a mean of 5 breaths/min during the meditation, with a predominance of abdominal/diaphragmatic breathing. There was also more alpha EEG activity during the meditation (M = 1.71 V) compared to the pre- (M = .47 V) and postbaseline (M = .78 V) periods, and an increase in theta EEG activity immediately following the meditation (M = .62 V) compared to the pre-baseline and meditative periods (each with M = .26 V). These findings suggest that a shift in breathing patterns may contribute to the development of alpha EEG, and those patterns need to be investigated further.  相似文献

Synaptoneurosomes isolated from cerebral cortices of male Sprague-Dawley rats were used for studying GABAA receptor-regulated chloride influx. The in vitro effects of GABA antagonists, SR 95531 (a pyridazinyl GABA derivative) and bicuculline, on pentobarbital-stimulated, muscimol-stimulated or flunitrazepam-enhanced, muscimol-stimulated chloride uptake were studied. The chloride uptake was determined at 30°C, for 5 sec. Pentobarbital and muscimol produced a maximal stimulation of chloride uptake in cortical synaptoneurosomes at 500 M and 50M, respectively. SR 95531 as well as bicuculline had no effect on the basal uptake of chloride. Whereas, SR 95531 (0.3–30 M) and bicuculline (0.1–100 M), when added 5 min before muscimol (50 M), produced a significant concentration-dependent inhibition of muscimol (50 M)-stimulated chloride uptake (IC50 s of 0.89±0.11 M and 13.45±2.10M, respectively). In studies of the inhibitory effects of SR 95531 and bicuculline on pentobarbital (500 M)-stimulated chloride uptake, the IC50 s were 0.81±0.12 M and 3.86±1.14 M, respectively. SR 95531 exhibited a more potent inhibitory effect than bicuculline on flunitrazepam-enhanced, muscimol-stimulated chloride uptake. The results revealed that SR 95531 has a more potent antagonistic effect than bicuculline on GABAA-regulated chloride flux.  相似文献

Insulin improves contractile function after ischemia, but does not increase glucose uptake in the isolated working rat heart. We tested the hypothesis that the positive inotropic effect of insulin is independent of the signaling pathway responsible for insulin-stimulated glucose uptake. We inhibited this pathway at the level of phosphatidyl inositol 3-kinase (PI3K) with wortmannin. Hearts were perfused for 70 min at physiological workload with Krebs-Henseleit buffer containing [2-3H] glucose (5 mM, 0.05 Ci/ml) and oleate (0.4 mM, 1% BSA) in the presence (WM, n = 5) or absence (control, n = 7) of wortmannin (WM, 3 mol/L). After 20 min, hearts were subjected to 15 min of total global ischemia followed by 35 min of reperfusion. Insulin (1 mU/ml) was added at the beginning of reperfusion (WM + insulin n = 8, insulin n = 8). Cardiac power before ischemia was 8.1 ± 0.7 mW. Recovery of contractile function after ischemia was significantly increased in the presence of insulin (73.5 ± 8.9% vs. 38.5 ± 6.7%, p < 0.01). The addition of wortmannin completely abolished the effect of insulin on recovery (32.6 ± 6.4%). Glucose uptake was 1.84 ± 0.32 mol/min/g dry before ischemia and was slightly elevated during reperfusion (2.68 ± 0.35 mol/min/g dry, n.s.). Insulin did not affect postischemic glucose uptake. In the presence of wortmannin, glucose uptake was lowest during reperfusion (n.s.). The results suggest that PI3K is involved in the insulin-induced improvement in postischemic recovery of contractile function. This effect of insulin is independent of its effect on glucose uptake.  相似文献

Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a cytokine that acts on a variety of cell types, including myeloid progenitor cells and B and T lymphocytes. It has been found to activate cytotoxic T cells and natural killer (NK) cells and to induce T-cell-mediated antitumour effects in animal models. In a phase I clinical trial of recombinant human IL-6, 20 patients with advanced cancer were entered to receive daily subcutaneous injections of IL-6 over 7 days followed by a 2-week observation period and another 4 weeks of daily IL-6 injections. Doses varied between 0.5 g/kg and 20 g/ kg body weight and immune functions were monitored throughout. At all dose levels IL-6 administration led to a marked increase in serum levels of C-reactive protein and a moderate rise in complement factor C3. The proportions of CD4, CD8 or HLA-DR lymphocytes in peripheral blood did not alter with IL-6 treatment nor did the in vitro proliferation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells induced by either phytohaemagglutinin, pokeweed mitogen or fixedStaphylococcus aureus. By contrast, NK cell activity, lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cell activity and proliferation induced by in vitro culture with interleukin-2 (IL-2) were suppressed at doses exceeding 2.5 g/kg. Serum IgE levels were consistently elevated over the IL-6 dose range but IgM, IgG and IgA levels were unaffected. In summary there is a dose-dependent induction of acutephase proteins by in vivo IL-6 treatment. At higher IL-6 doses there is a suppressive effect on NK and LAK activity measured in vitro. IL-6 may thus be useful in combination cytokine therapies that seek to suppress LAK and favour cytotoxic T lymphocyte responses. The kinetics of the NADH3'-acetylpyridine adenine dinucleotide (APAD+) transhydrogenase reaction (DD-reaction) catalyzed by different preparations of mitochondrial NADH-dehydrogenase (submitochondrial particles (SMP), purified Complex I, and three-subunit fragment of Complex I (FP)) have been studied. Complex I (in SMP or in purified preparation) catalyzes two NADHAPAD+ reactions with different rates and nucleotide affinities. Reaction 1 has high affinity to APAD+ (K m = 7 M, for SMP) and low rate (V m = 0.2 mol/min per mg protein, for SMP) and occurs with formation of a ternary complex. Reaction 2 has much higher rate and considerably lower affinity for oxidized nucleotide (V m = 1.7 mol/min per mg protein and K m = 160 M, for SMP). FP catalyzes only reaction 1. ADP-ribose inhibits reaction 1 with mixed type inhibition (competitive with non-competitive) with respect to NADH and APAD+. Rhein competes with both substrates. The results suggest that at least two nucleotide-binding sites exist in Complex I.  相似文献

Time- and concentration-course studies were conducted to determine the effect of bentazon [3-isopropyl-1H-2,l,3,-benzothiadiazin-4(3H)-one 2,2-dioxide] on photosynthesis, RNA synthesis, protein synthesis, and lipid synthesis using enzymatically isolated leaf cells of red kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.). Photosynthesis and RNA synthesis were inhibited about 75% at 1 M bentazon at the 30 min treatment period. This was the lowest concentration and shortest time that significantly inhibited any of these four processes. The degree of inhibition of photosynthesis was greater than the degree of inhibition of RNA synthesis at higher concentrations and/or longer time periods. At 10 M bentazon, protein synthesis and lipid synthesis were also inhibited. Lipid synthesis was stimulated at 0.1 and 1 M at 120 min.  相似文献

Embryogenic callus cultures of Ipomoea batatas Poir. produce fast growing non-embryogenic material which soon dominates the cultures. Our objective was to selectively enhance the proliferation of the embryogenic fraction. For this, the effect of BAP and 2,4-D concentrations on growth of embryogenic and non-embryogenic callus were studied and consequently, nutrient media for the production and indefinite maintenance of embryogenic callus without embryo formation were defined. Selective proliferation of embryogenic callus was obtained on solid media with 10 M 2,4-D and 1 M BAP and in liquid media with 5 M 2,4-D. Selective proliferation of non-embryogenic callus occurred in liquid medium with 1 M 2,4-D. In embryogenic liquid culture, embryos were produced with 0–2 M 2,4-D. DNA molecules from lysates of microsporocytes at different stages of meiosis of Lilium longiflorum were examined in the electron microscope. In all of the preparations, only linear (non-circular) molecules were found. They had a mean length of between 59 and 75 , and a range of lengths which varied from 1 to 115 , to 1 to 210 . From the data obtained, there was no indication of a change in molecular form or size of DNA molecules associated with the process of meiosis.  相似文献

Total mercury was measured in different compartments of Lake Xolotlán's (Managua) ecosystemviz., sediments, water, fish and men. Sediments from 18 localities at 5 depths inside the sediment (5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 cm) contained an average concentration of 0.62 g Hg.g–1±0.46 at the surface, with extreme values of 0.16 and 1.8 g.g–1. The highest concentration was observed at 25 cm depth in front of the chlor-alkaly factory (ELPESA). This maximum is associated with the period of highest production of this factory. The highest mercury concentrations in water were also measured close to the discharge of ELPESA,viz. 787 g.Hg–1 in January and 506 g.g–1 in April. The mean mercury concentrations measured in the muscles of the most consumed fish were 0.63 g.g–1±0.22 (extreme values 0.22 and 1.45) inCichlasoma managuense, and 0.07 g.g–1±0.14 (extreme values 0.004 and 0.63) inC. citrinellum. The concentration in the liver was 0.79 g.g–1±1.29 inC. managuense and 0.62 g.g–1±0.44 inC. citrinellum. Human hairs (n=98) of fishermen and their families contained 5.03 g.g–1±6.2 (extreme values 0.02 and 38.22). The mean concentration measured in men was 6.22 g.g–1±6.34 (n=58), and in women 3.39 g.g–1±5.7 (n=40). The average mercury concentration of hairs of workers of ELPESA was 91.24 g.g–1±156.9 (extreme values 0.46 and 724.53; n=32). We conclude that total mercury levels in the various ecosystem compartments are very high and mercury contamination in the lake may be considered as dangerous for human health.  相似文献

Growth rate estimates () of phytoplankton populations that were sampled from nitrogen-limited continuous cultures and then incubated for short durations in batch culture with added14C-HCO3 were significantly different than steady-state growth rates () for 3 of 5 marine phytoplankton species. Two diatoms,Thalassiosira weissflogii andChaetoceros simplex, displayed virtually identical growth rates (=) over a wide range of, whereas for a third diatom,Phaeodactylum tricornutum, was overestimated by an average of 40% compared to. In contrast, was underestimated by the14C technique for the two remaining species: up to 40% at a steady-state of 1.0 day–1 for the chlorophyteDunaliella tertiolecta and up to 100% at of 1.4 day–1 for the haptophytePavlova lutheri. For the latter two species the divergence between and appeared to increase with increasing steady-state. A simple model of labeled and total carbon flow between the aqueous phase and cellular biomass was constructed to demonstrate that respiration was negligible when=, but was significant when>. In the cases in which<, a rapid physiological alteration presumably took place once the steady state was disturbed and cells were placed in the incubation chambers, which perhaps was related to the nutritional state of the cultures at the time of sampling. Questions thus are raised regarding our ability to measure accurately primary productivity from shipboard experiments with confined samples of phytoplankton from nutrient-impoverished waters that probably are less hardy than the laboratory cultures used in these studies.  相似文献

A glasshouse experiment was conducted to study the effect of Ni on the growth and nutrients concentration in wheat (Triticum aestivum Cv. WH 291) in the presence and absence of applied N as urea. Responses to N application were observed up to 120 g N g–1 soil. No response to Ni was observed in the dry matter yield of wheat tops (leaves + stem) in the absence of applied N while in the presence of applied N, significant yield increases were obtained at 12.5g Ni g–1 soil. Nickel was not toxic to wheat up to 50g Ni g–1 soil in the presence of 120g N g–1 soil. Nitrogen and Ni concentration in wheat tops and roots increased with increasing levels of applied N and Ni, respectively. Applied Ni had an antagonistic effect on N concentration. Similarly, N reduced the Ni concentration in the wheat tissues. Positive growth responses to Ni were associated with 22 and 15g Ni g–1 in wheat tops, in the presence of applied N at 60 and 120g N g–1 soil, while Ni toxicity was associated with 63, 92.5 and 112.5g Ni g–1 in wheat tops, in the absence and presence of applied N at 60 and 120g N g–1 soil, respectively.  相似文献

Summary Studies on the effects of pretreatment with aldosterone on the incorporation of3H leucine or3H methionine into proteins in renal slices were carried out in Joklik-modified minimal essential medium. Administration of aldosterone (2 g/100 g body wt) to adrenalectomized rats increased3H leucine incorporation into trichloroacetic acid insoluble fractions of crude homogenates of cortical slices by 15.5±0.4% and of medullary slices by 53.5±1.3%. No increase in isotope incorporation was observed in slices of renal papilla or spleen prepared from the same rats. Aldosterone had no effect on the3H-leucine content of the trichloroacetic acid-soluble fractions of all three renal zones and the spleen. The dose of aldosterone that elicited a half-maximal increase in3H-methionine incorporation into proteins of renal medullary slices (0.45 g of aldosterone/100 g body wt) was indistinguishable from that needed to elicit a halfmaximal increase in the urinary K+/Na+ ratio (0.35 g of aldosterone/100 g body wt). Dexamethasone, a potent glucocorticoid, at a dose of 0.8 g/100 g body wt did not augment3H-leucine incorporation into renal medullary proteins but was effective at 8 g/100 g body wt. Spirolactone (SC-26304), a potent anti-mineralocorticoid, abolished the effect of aldosterone on amino acid incorporation into medullary proteins when administered at a 100-fold higher dosage [i.e., 80 gvs. 0.8 g (per 100 g body wt)]. These results imply that the action of aldosterone on amino acid incorporation is mediated by the mineralocorticoid rather than the glucocorticoid pathway, presumably the mineralocorticoid receptors. Moreover, pretreatment of the rats with actinomycin D (70–80 g/100 g body wt) erased the effect of aldosterone (0.8 g/100 g body wt) on amino acid incorporation into medullary proteins.In paired experiments with3H and35S methionine, aldosterone (0.8 g/100 g body wt) increased methionine incorporation into trichloroacetic acid precipitable proteins of subcellular fractions of the renal medulla. The effect of aldosterone on incorporation of methionine into medullary cytosol proteins was analyzed further by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis at pH 8.3 in tris-glycine buffer. The gel profiles indicate that aldosterone significantly increased methionine incorporation into at least one protein (independent of the isotope) with a molecular weight of 31,000. This increase was inhibited by either pretreatment of the rat with actinomycin D (70–80 g/100 g body wt or SC-26304 (80 g/100 g body wt). Summary The spermatozoon of Oikopleura dioica is about 30 m long, with a spherical head, about 1 m wide, a 3 m long and 1 m wide midpiece, and a 25 m long tail with a tapered end piece. The head contains a nucleus with the chromatin volume limited to about 0.1 m3. A small acrosome is found in an anterior inpocketing, and a flagellar basal body in a posterior inpocketing of the nucleus. The midpiece contains a single mitochondrion with the flagellar axoneme embedded in a groove along its medial surface. The flagellar axoneme has the typical 9 + 2 substructure, and the basal body the typical 9+0 substructure. A second centriole and special anchoring fibres are absent.  相似文献

A micromanipulation method is described for measuring the bursting forces of bacteria and relating them to cell size. At a compression speed of 6.2 m s–1, bursting forces of three samples of rapidly growing Staphylococcus epidermis from a batch culture varied from 3 to 34 N with an average value of 13.8 N (standard error 0.8 N). Escherichia coli grown in continuous culture at a specific growth rate of 0.5 h–1 had bursting forces varying from 1 to 9 N with an average value of 3.6 N (standard error 0.4 N). In squeeze-hold experiments, force relaxation was observed, which was attributed to water loss from the cells, or viscoelasticity, or both. At high compression speed, such as 6.2 m s–1, this relaxation could be neglected. Micromanipulation strength measurements might be used in studies of cell mechanical disruption and of the dependence of cell strength on cell physiology.  相似文献
