The first acetylenic monoterpene and other constituents from Senecio clevelandii

The aerial parts of Senecio clevelandii afforded three new monoterpene lactones, one of them being the first acetylenic monoterpene to be isolated, a C-14 acetylenic angelate, a tetrahydroquinol ester and several known compounds, among them the tricyclic precursor of the polycyclopentanoide sesquiterpenes.     

A new acetylenic ester from Artemisia absinthium

trans-Dehydromatricaria ester, a new thiopene derivative, a C₁₄-trans-spiroketalenol ether and a C₁₃-trans-spiroketalenol ether were isolated from the roots of Artemisia absinthium collected in E. Austria. Plants grown from a Finnish source gave an identical acetylenic profile.     

A further dithienylacetylene from Eclipta erecta

The roots and the aerial parts of Eclipta erecta afforded, in addition to compounds reported previously, a new dithienyl derivative.     

Bisabolene derivatives and acetylenic compounds from peruvian Coreopsis species

The investigation of three Peruvian Coreopsis species afforded, in addition to compounds isolated previously from this genus, two new tetraynenes and five sesquiterpenes all related to perezone, including a tricyclic ketone with a cedrane skeleton closely related to pipitzol. The structure were elucidated by spectroscopic methods.     

Polyacetylenes from Chrysanthemum leucanthemum

Fifteen acetylenic compounds have been isolated and characterized from the flower heads of Chrysanthemum leucanthemum L. Five of these acetylenes have not previously been published as naturally occurring compounds. These are: 1,7(c)-hexadecadien-10,12,14-triyne; 1,8(c)-heptadecadien-11,13,15-triyne; 4(c)-tridecen-7,9,11-triyn-l-ol; 1,8(t)-hexadecadien-10,12,14-triyn-(6·7)-oxirane; and [3(t),5(t)-tridecadien-7,9,11-triyn-l-yl]-3-methyl-2-butenoate. The first three compounds are interesting since they are important intermediates in previously postulated biogenetic pathways. Ten acetylenes have been identified from the roots of the same plant, all of these having different structures from those of the flower heads. One of the acetylenes, [3(t), 5(t)-tridecadien-7,9,11-triyn-l-yl]-3-methylbutyrate, from the roots has never been reported as a naturally occurring compound.     

Thiophene acetylenes from Leuzea roots

The isolation and identification of four polyacetylenes is reported from the roots of Leuzea carthamoides. The compounds belong to a uniform series of thiophene acetylenes two of the compounds are new, whereas two are already known.     

An acetylenic triol from Hyoseris lucida

The aerial parts of Hyoseris lucida afforded a new acetylenic triol. The structure was elucidated by spectroscopic methods and a few chemical transformations.     

Hydroxycinnamic acid esters from Polygala chamaebuxus

Three new glycosides have been isolated from the aerial parts of Polygala chamaebuxus by preparative liquid chromatography on an axially-compressed silica column. The compounds were identified as 1,3-diesters of β-D-fructofuranosyl-α-D-glucopyranoside with sinapoyl, feruloyl and acetyl ester moieties on the furanose ring. The structures were elucidated by a combination of chemical and spectroscopic methods (D/CI-MS, ¹H and ¹³C NMR).     

Sandaracopimarene derivatives from Senecio subrubriflorus

Several new sandaracopimarene derivatives were isolated from Senecio subrubriflorus. A triphenyl acetate of shikimic acid and a 4, 7-oxide of bisabolene were also present. The structures were elucidated by high field ¹H NMR spectroscopy. The chemistry of this species differs considerably from that of other Senecio species.     

Neocapillen,a new acetylenic hydrocarbon from Artemisia capillaris

During an investigation of Artemisia capillaris, a new acetylenic hydrocarbon, neocapillen, was isolated as a minor component and its structure determined.     

Neue acetylenverbindungen aus chrysothamnus parryl

The investigation of Chrysothamnus parryi afforded, in addition to known compounds, several new matricaria ester derivatives. The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and some chemical transformations. Furthermore, a naphthol derivative was isolated. Chemotaxonomic aspects are discussed briefly.     

N-docosanoylanthranilic acid from inula oculus-christi

The aerial parts of Inula oculus-christi afforded a new anthranilic acid derivative, acylated at the nitrogen by docosanoic acid.     

Variation in acetylene content of different ecotypes of Artemisia capillaris

The phenylacetylenes, capillen and capillin, are the main components in both the roots and leaves of Artemisia capillaris growing at riverside sites, but are not present in leaves from plants growing near the sea, although found in the roots. The relationship between acetylene content and ecotype of the plant is discussed.

Maculatin: An isomer of uvedalin epoxide from Polymnia maculata

The isolation of a new germacranolide, maculatin IIc or IId, from Polymnia maculata Cav. is reported.     

Piperidides and other amides from Achillea species

The investigation of the roots of four Achillea species afforded, in addition to known ones eight new amides most of them being piperidides. The structures were elucidated by spectrocopic methods. The chemotaxonomic importance of the amides is discussed briefly.
