During development fetal arterial oxygen tension falls, whereas cerebral oxygen consumption rises due to an increase in cerebral metabolism. To compensate for this increase in oxygen consumption, blood flow and therefore oxygen delivery to the cerebrum rises. To determine whether during development oxygen delivery to the cerebrum meets cerebral oxygen consumption, we measured the concentrations of high-energy phosphates and glycolytic intermediates in the cerebral cortex of fetal guinea pigs at different gestational ages. During development there was no change in the concentrations of adenosine triphosphate, creatine phosphate, adenosine monophosphate, and lactate. However, cerebral concentrations of adenosine diphosphate increased and those of glucose decreased. Our results suggest that the increase in fetal cerebral oxygen delivery during development meets cerebral oxygen consumption with increasing gestational age. We speculate that the measured rise in the concentrations of adenosine diphosphate may accelerate glycolysis during development and therefore may cause a rise in both cerebral blood flow to maintain oxygen delivery. 相似文献

Ultrasonography has not previously been used for studying fetal movements in precocial rodents. The objective of this study was to ultrasonographically determine the sequence of the appearance of basic movements in a guinea pig fetus. The research included eight guinea pig females carrying one fetus each. Fetal movements were observed for 10 minutes each day, from the 25th to 38th day of gestation. The time and sequence of the appearance of movements was observed as follows: whole body flexion (mean 27.6 SD ± 1.68), whole body extension (mean 28.1 SD ± 1.12), head flexion (mean 28.1 SD ± 1.80), head extension (mean 30.5 SD ± 2.67) forelimbs flexion (mean 30.5 SD ± 2.32), forelimbs extension (mean 30.7 SD ± 1.84), trunk rotation (mean 31.9 SD ± 2.23), forelimbs alternating flexion and extension (mean 32.1 SD ± 2.1), hind limbs extension (mean 32.2 SD ± 3.2), hind limbs flexion (mean 32.4 SD ± 3.16), and hind limbs alternating flexion and extension (mean 33.5 SD ± 2.39). The identical sequences of basic movement appearances in guinea pigs, sheep, and rats suggest that the rostrocaudal gradient of basic movement appearance could be a general developmental pattern in mammalian species. 相似文献

In immature fetuses circulatory centralization caused by acute asphyxia is less effective than that in mature fetuses (Jensen & Berger, 1991). This suggests that cerebral oxygenation may be poor in immature fetuses during asphyxia. On the other hand cerebral oxygen consumption is lower in immature than that in mature fetuses. To determine, whether or not there is an imbalance between oxygen supply and demand in one or the other group, we compared the time course of the changes of cerebral concentrations of both high-energy phosphates and glycolytic intermediates between immature and mature guinea pig fetuses during acute asphyxia caused by arrest of uterine blood flow. The fall in the cerebral concentrations of adenosine triphosphate and glucose, and the rise in those of adenosine monophosphate and lactate were slower in immature than in mature fetuses. There were no differences between the levels of cerebral adenosine diphosphate and creatine phosphate of the two groups. From these results we conclude that during acute asphyxia the imbalance between cerebral oxygen supply and demand is less marked in immature than in mature fetuses. 相似文献

For establishing normal mean values of the parameters of the electrocardiographic curve and their standard deviations 50 male guinea pigs were studied. The directions of temporary vectors of atrial (AP) and ventricular (AQRS) depolarization times, and ventricular repolarization time (AT) were determined, and the position of the heart was evaluated. In all animals limb leads I, II, III, aVR, aVL, aVF were used, and in 38 animals additionally the precordial leads V1, V2, V3, V4, V5, V6 were applied. The investigations were done by a non-invasive method with a specially designed plate making possible immobilization of the animals in supine position under general anaesthesia with urethane. In 10% of the animals abnormalities were detected in the ECG curve and these guinea pigs were eliminated from further analysis. The investigations showed that, after consideration given to the differences in the ECG curves in relation to man, guinea pigs might be used for preclinical cardiological studies. 相似文献

Ovarian development was studied in control and decapitated pig fetuses. Fetuses were decapitated at 42 days postcoitum. At 51, 61, 74, 90 and 112 days postcoitum decapitated and control females were collected. Ovarian weight gradually increased during development in control animals. Deprivation of pituitary hormones as a result of fetal decapitation did not cause a decline in ovarian weight increase. Germ cell maturation in control and decapitated fetuses proceeded in a similar fashion, with secondary follicles being the most advanced stage. Enzyme histochemical activity was present in the primary interstitial gland cells and in granulosa cells and was similar in normal and decapitated fetuses. Both NADH diaphorase activity and 3 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase activity increased from 51 to 74 days and remained relatively constant thereafter. Since fetal decapitation in the pig hardly influences ovarian development, pituitary dependency of the fetal ovary in the pig is unlikely. 相似文献

The activities of bile salt sulfotransferase, the enzyme responsible for the sulfation of bile salts, were determined in fetal and adult livers of humans and guinea pigs. Fetal enzyme activities in guinea pigs were approximately one-tenth of the adult and increased gradually as the gestation progressed. The bile salt sulfotransferase activities were found in human fetal livers but only 14% of the adult fatty liver activity. The result indicates human or guinea pig fetuses are capable of sulfating lithocholate derived from the mother. 相似文献

We studied the ureter of guinea pigs to ascertain whether there are ganglia and ganglion neurons directly associated with this structure. We consistently observed ureteric ganglia and individual neurons in the adventitia of the ureter or very close to it. There were on average 87 neurons per ureter, and they were scattered over the entire length of the tube. 相似文献
