Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) employing laser light has been emerging as a safe strategy to challenge viruses. In this study the effect of blue and near-infrared (NIR) laser light was assessed in an in vitro model of SARS-CoV-2 infection. PBMT at blue wavelength inhibited viral amplification when the virus was directly irradiated and then transferred to cell culture and when cells already infected were treated. The NIR wavelength resulted less efficacious showing a minor effect on the reduction of the viral load. The cells receiving the irradiated virus or directly irradiated rescued their viability to level comparable to not treated cells. Virion integrity and antigenicity were preserved after blue and NIR irradiation, suggesting that the PBMT antiviral effect was not correlated to viral lipidic envelope disruption. Our results suggested that PBMT can be considered a valid strategy to counteract SARS-CoV-2 infection, at least in vitro.  相似文献

Blue light plays an important role in circadian photoentrainment by stimulating the melanopsin-expressing photosensitive retinal ganglion cells. Age-related cataract causes progressive loss of blue light transmission, which may lead to changes in circadian rhythm and sleep quality. In theory, increased light transmission by cataract surgery may improve circadian misalignment and sleep quality, while the effect of cataract surgery on circadian rhythm is not well understood. In this study, we assessed 30 binocular age-related nuclear cataract patients (aged 72.5 ± 7.2, 16 female) who were eligible for cataract surgery. All the patients underwent phacoemulsification cataract extraction and neutral ultraviolet-only blocking intraocular lens (IOLs) implantation. Visual functions including best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), color perception and dark adaptation were assessed. Salivary samples were collected at 1-hour interval from 19:00 to 23:00 48 hours before and after surgery. Salivary melatonin concentration was measured and dim light melatonin onset (DLMO) was calculated subsequently. Sleep quality and daytime alertness were assessed before and a month after surgery using Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS). All the operated eyes demonstrated significant improvements in BCVA, color perception and dark adaptation after cataract surgery. Salivary melatonin concentration at 23:00 was significantly increased after surgery (P < 0.001). However, the average DLMO did not change significantly after surgery. In addition, PSQI and ESS scores were significantly decreased a month after surgery (P = 0.027, P < 0.001, respectively). In conclusion, cataract surgery promotes blue-light transmission; consequently, it may lead to the increase in nighttime melatonin concentration and improvement in sleep quality as well as daytime alertness.  相似文献

After Acetabularia mediterranea cells were kept in darkness for 2–8 weeks, all the cellular processes were arrested and the algae did not grow. In particular, the transcellular electrical potential (VAB) decreased to almost zero and cytoplasmic streaming was arrested. Upon illumination with continous blue light (BL), the first events were (as with white light (WL)), immediate increase in VAB and movements of water, followed, after a lag period of 1–3 min, by transient recovery of cytoplasmic streaming which lasted about 16 min. After 10 min (earlier than in WL), the frequency of the spontaneous action potentials increased much more than in WL. Then, after 1.5–4 hr during which VAB often decreased to zero while the cytoplasmic movements stopped, both activities resumed with diurnal oscillations. BL stimulated (as WL) rRNA synthesis, migration of rRNA from nucleus towards apex and cell growth. Upon illumination with red light (RL), VAB also increased, but water movements were much less pronounced than in BL. The transient streaming phase was shorter. The spontaneous action potentials increased in frequency much later (several hr) and much less than in BL or WL. VAB did not decreased at any time and was maintained at particularly high values. Cytoplasmic streaming resumed, but showed very attenuated or no rhythm. rRNA synthesis and migration remained low. Cell growth did not resume during the experiments. By comparing our results with those of other studies relating to growth, morphogenesis and photosynthesis, we suggest that BL and RL could affect all these processes by differentially modifying the cytoplasmic concentrations of ions which may influence the functions of the cytoskeleton.  相似文献

The interaction of benproperine phosphate (BPP) with eriochrome blue black R (EBBR) in the presence of sodium dodecylbenzene sulphonate (SDBS) was studied using resonance light scattering (RLS) technology and ultraviolet‐visual (UV‐vis) spectrophotometry. Under optimum conditions, BPP reacts with EBBP and SDBS to form a three‐component complex, which results in strong RLS signal and a new RLS peak. The enhanced RLS intensities are proportional to the concentration of BPP over the range 0.6–28.0 µg/mL, with a detection limit of 0.053 µg/mL. The affecting factors as well as the influence of coexisting substances were investigated. The results indicate that this assay method could be applied to the determination of BPP in pharmaceuticals, serum and urine samples with satisfactory results.
