The amnesic effects of excitotoxic lesions of the rat retrosplenial cortex (RS) and hippocampus (HPC) in the spontaneous object recognition (SOR) performance were investigated. The SOR test consisted of the sample-exposure session(s) and a test session. First, to test retrograde amnesia, rats received four sample-exposure sessions within a day at 4 weeks and 1 day before the surgery, respectively. In the test sessions conducted 1 week after the surgery, both lesion groups showed a temporally ungraded retrograde amnesia. Second, to test anterograde amnesia, 1- and 4-week retention intervals were inserted between the four sample-exposure sessions and the test session. The RS-lesioned rats showed a retention interval-dependent impairment in the test sessions, while the HPC-lesioned rats showed an impairment regardless of the retention interval. Finally, to test short-term recognition memory, 5- or 30-min delay was interposed between the single sample-exposure session and the test session. Both lesion groups performed normally irrespective of the delay length. These results suggest that both the RS and HPC are important for long-term object recognition memory, but these areas have different roles in it. ? 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 相似文献

The paper deals with the results of analysis of the influence of blocked of BD-GABA-ionophore complex and its separate components on recover of memory trace amnesia during BD-receptors activation in experiments on elaboration of CR of passive avoidance in mice. It is shown that at "neurochemical tuning" the improvement of conditioned reaction reproduction on the 2-nd and 21-st day after learning and amnestic action was observed only at GABAA receptor blockade by bicuculline, while the blockade of BD-receptor by flumazepil and of chlorine channel by picrotoxin was ineffective. Simultaneous blockade of all BD-GABA-ionophore complex components was not more effective in comparison with the blockade of its separate links in the recovery of conditioned reaction reproduction. The presented data allow to suppose that "psychogenic" amnesia development is determined by the functional state of neurotransmitter brain systems at learning and amnestic action which stipulates subsequent possibility of memory trace retrieval. 相似文献

How does music induce or evoke feeling states in listeners? A number of mechanisms have been proposed for how sounds induce emotions, including innate auditory responses, learned associations and mirror neuron processes. Inspired by ethology, it is suggested that the ethological concepts of signals, cues and indices offer additional analytic tools for better understanding induced affect. It is proposed that ethological concepts help explain why music is able to induce only certain emotions, why some induced emotions are similar to the displayed emotion (whereas other induced emotions differ considerably from the displayed emotion), why listeners often report feeling mixed emotions and why only some musical expressions evoke similar responses across cultures. 相似文献

In a preliminary pilot study, 82 university students were administered an extensive battery of musical and phonological memory tasks; their scores were examined for an association with promoter repeats in the arginine vasopressin 1a receptor and serotonin transporter genes. We previously showed that these genes were associated with another music-related phenotype, creative dance. Highly significant Gene×Gene epistatic interactions were observed between promoter region polymorphisms and musical as well as phonological memory using family-based and population-based tests. Given the prominent role of vasopressin in social behavior, the preliminary association found in our study between musical memory and vasopressin could serve to support evolutionary accounts postulating a social adaptive role in music, such as mother–infant communication, sexual selection, group cohesion, and even early protolanguage. 相似文献

‘Dealing with ambiguity’ has become a pressing concern in many spheres of contemporary life, often presented as a ‘survival skill’ in an uncertain world. Working with ambiguity also plays a crucial role in the musical pedagogy of the Ottoman-Turkish ney (Sufi reed flute), the playing of which I discuss in this article. Rather than a constraint or deficiency to be resolved, in the context of ney apprenticeship, ambiguity emerges as a desired pedagogical force not only valued but also deliberately amplified. My aim is to show how ambiguity is embraced here as a productive condition that maximizes possibilities for artistic exploration, freedom of discernment, and aesthetic pleasures. 相似文献

To investigate the neural substrates that underlie spontaneous musical performance, we examined improvisation in professional jazz pianists using functional MRI. By employing two paradigms that differed widely in musical complexity, we found that improvisation (compared to production of over-learned musical sequences) was consistently characterized by a dissociated pattern of activity in the prefrontal cortex: extensive deactivation of dorsolateral prefrontal and lateral orbital regions with focal activation of the medial prefrontal (frontal polar) cortex. Such a pattern may reflect a combination of psychological processes required for spontaneous improvisation, in which internally motivated, stimulus-independent behaviors unfold in the absence of central processes that typically mediate self-monitoring and conscious volitional control of ongoing performance. Changes in prefrontal activity during improvisation were accompanied by widespread activation of neocortical sensorimotor areas (that mediate the organization and execution of musical performance) as well as deactivation of limbic structures (that regulate motivation and emotional tone). This distributed neural pattern may provide a cognitive context that enables the emergence of spontaneous creative activity. 相似文献

Although normal cognitive changes take place when a person becomes older, aging in humans is generally associated with deterioration of cognitive performance and, in particular, of learning and memory. These cognitive deficits can cause debilitating consequences due to aging. There are a number of herbal medicines which are reported to improve brain function including intelligence.In the present study, improving effects of tenuifolin, extracted from Radix Polygalae (RP), on learning and memory in aged and dysmnesia mice were determined using step-down type passive avoidance test or Y type maze trial. Oral administration of tenuifolin (0.02, 0.04, 0.08 g/kg d−1, for 15 d) evidently improved the latency and number of errors in aged and dysmnesia mice. The levels of cortical acetylcholine esterase (AChE) activity and hippocampal neurotransmitters in aged mice given tenuifolin (0.02, 0.04, 0.08 g/kg d−1, for 15 d) were also investigated, and increased levels of norepinephrine (NE), dopamine (DA), decreased activity of AChE were found. However, serotonin (5-HT) had no significant difference from that of aged mice given distilled water. The evident improvement of learning and memory of aged mice is carried out by the effects of tenuifolin on the three stages of memory process, that is, acquisition, consolidation and retrieval. This may do so by relatively increasing the levels of NE, DA in the hippocampus and by decreasing the activity of AChE in the cortex. 相似文献

In mammals, memory formation and stabilization requires polymerization of actin. Here, we show that, in the honeybee, inhibition of actin polymerization within the brain centres involved in memory formation, the mushroom bodies (MBs), enhances associative olfactory memory. Local application of inhibitors of actin polymerization (Cytochalasin D or Latrunculin A) to the MBs 1 h before induction of long-term memory increased memory retention 2 and 24 h after the onset of training. Post-training application of Cytochalasin D also enhanced retention, indicating that memory consolidation is facilitated by actin depolymerization. We conclude that certain aspects of memory mechanisms could have been established independently in mammals and insects. 相似文献

The model of amnestic syndrome obtained by treatment with scopolamine during 20 days in rats was used to study anti-amnesic activity of amiridin in comparison with that of tacrine, physostigmine and piracetam. Multiple injection of Sc resulted in significant deterioration of rats, performance in passive avoidance test. Behavioral disorders were accompanied by such changes in lipid composition of brain synaptosomes which indicated a decreased membrane fluidity. Amiridin and tacrine as well as piracetam showed anti-amnesic action which in the course of treatment correlated with their normalizing effect on lipid content of synaptosomes. The diverse effect of amiridin and tacrine with respect to physostigmine implies that the former drugs can't be attributed to anticholinesterase preparations which are traditionally used in the treatment of Alzheimer disease. 相似文献

The tendency of nectarivorous birds to perform better on tasks requiring them to avoid previously rewarding locations (to win-shift) than to return to them (win-stay) has been explained as an adaptation to the depleting nature of nectar. This interpretation relies on the previously untested assumption that the win-shift tendency is not associated with food types possessing a different distribution. To test this assumption, we examined the specificity of this bias to different food types in an omnivorous honeyeater, the noisy miner (Manorina melanocephala). As predicted, we found that the win-shift bias was sensitive to foraging context, manifesting only in association with foraging for nectar, not with foraging for invertebrates. 相似文献

Taking into account the angiogenic properties of the omentum to revascularize ischemic tissues, this experimental, longitudinal, prospective, double-blind study in rabbits was designed to revascularize and preserve the mobility of a digital osteotendinous structure surgically devascularized in advance and to compare such omental angiogenic ability with that of the muscle and the panniculus carnosus. Thirty New Zealand rabbits were used. Three toes from the hind feet were surgically amputated from each rabbit. The skin was removed, exposing the bones, tendons, ligaments, and joints, to form what we termed the osteotendinous structure. Through a median laparotomy, the first part of each rabbit's own osteotendinous structure was placed inside the panniculus carnosus (group I), the second under the rectus abdominis muscle (group II), and the third was wrapped in a pediculate omental flap (group III). Three weeks later, each structure was assessed clinically for mobility and fibrosis and microscopically for fibrosis, newly formed vessels, viability, and tissue regeneration. Clinically, the group I structures showed a greater amount of fibrosis. The structures in groups II and III showed minimal fibrosis in all but four cases, which showed moderate fibrosis. Differences in joint mobility were assessed with the Kruskal-Wallis test. There was a statistically significant difference in mobility for the structures from group III, which was higher, followed by those from groups II and I. The exception was the proximal interphalangeal joints in groups II and III, for which the differences had no statistical significance. Microscopically, fibrosis and tissue necrosis were intense in the structures in group I, moderate in the group II structures, and mild in the group III structures. Conversely, vessel neoformation and tissue regeneration were intense in the structures in group III, moderate in group II, and were nil in group I. This study confirms with statistical significance that, in the rabbit, the omentum has a higher ability to revascularize degloved tissues than do the muscle and the panniculus carnosus, thus preserving a higher joint and tendon mobility. Consequently, it is suggested that a free omental flap be used in the treatment of ring avulsion injuries that lead to degloving of the digits. 相似文献
