Relationships among three Japanese Laetiporus taxa (“L. sulphureus var. sulphureus” auct. jap., L. sulphureus var. miniatus, and L. versisporus) were assessed with phylogenetic analysis and incompatibility tests. Gene phylogenies inferred from the internal transcribed spacer region of nuclear ribosomal DNA, elongation factor 1α, and β-tubulin gene regions suggested that Japanese Laetiporus was divided into four groups: the yellow pore form of L. sulphureus var. miniatus, the white pore form of L. sulphureus var. miniatus, and two “L. sulphureus var. sulphureus”/ L. versisporus groups. A morphologically distinct species, Laetiporus versisporus, sharing a clade with “L. sulphureus var. sulphureus” auct. jap., was proved to be an anamorphic form of “L. sulphureus var. sulphureus” auct. jap. The “sulphureus/versisporus” isolates showed two divergent sequence types in each region. Some isolates had intraindividual polymorphism assigned to both sequence types. This finding suggests that speciation via hybridization is ongoing in the “sulphureus/versisporus” group. Single spore isolates from the “sulphureus/versisporus” group, white pore group, and yellow pore group were incompatible with each other. Our results provided strong support for the new recognition of three Laetiporus taxa in Japan.  相似文献

Citrus is an important fruit crop as regards accumulation of carotenoids. In plant carotenoid biosynthesis, phytoene synthase gene (Psy) plays a key role in catalyzing the head-to-head condensation of geranylgeranyl diphosphate molecules to produce colorless phytoene. In the present paper, we reported the phytoene contents determination and characterization of Psy during fruit ripening of “Washington” navel orange and its red-fleshed mutant “Cara Cara”. Results showed that phytoene was exclusively accumulated in peel and pulp of “Cara Cara”. Although phytoene was observed accumulating with fruit ripening of “Cara Cara”, the contents in pulp were 10 times higher than those in peel. The isolated two Psy cDNAs were both 1520 bp in full length, containing 436 deduced amino acid residues, with a different amino acid at 412th. Genomic hybridization results showed that one or two copies might be present in “Cara Cara” and “Washington” genomes. During “Cara Cara” and “Washington” fruit coloration, expression of Psy was observed to be up-regulated, as revealed by tissue specific profiles in the flavedo, albedo, segment membrane and juice sacs. However, Psy expression in albedo of “Cara Cara” was higher than that in “Washington”, as evidenced by phytoene accumulation in the peel.  相似文献

Disanthus cercidifolius Maxim. var. longipes H.T. Chang usually has two inflorescences growing in opposite directions in the axillae, but occasionally three inflorescences grow paratactically. The typical flowering process could be divided into 4 periods: “Pre-dehiscence”, “Initial dehiscence”, “Full dehiscence” and “Withering”. Both the natural population and the planted population had a flowering peak of 15–35 days after the first flower bloomed. There were significant differences between the time courses of flowering of the two populations. Out-crossing is the main breeding system in this species. And autogamy decreases the risk of reproductive failure of this species. The main insect pollinators of D. cercidifolius var. longipes are Episyrphus balteatus de Geer, Scaptodrosophila coracina Kikkawa and Peng, Polistes olivaceus de Geer, Apis cerana Fabricius, Nezara viridula L. and Coccinella septempunctata L., and so on. Among the insects, S. coracina and E. balteatus are the most important and efficient pollinators, but others are inefficient pollinators. Though wind pollination is not efficient, it guarantees reproduction when insect pollinators are not available. “Mass flowering” is an adaptive behavior and reproductive strategy of this species, and “few fruiting” could be caused by the lack of pollinators.  相似文献

The fluviatile Rhinogobius sp. 1 (hereinafter R. sp. 1) (Japanese name kibara-yoshinobori or English name yellow belly medium-egg type) is broadly distributed in the Ryukyu Islands ranging from Amami-oshima Island to Iriomote Island. However, based on the molecular evidence, this species has probably had multiple origins from amphidromous species. We compared the coloration of specimens at Amami-oshima I. with that of the other specimens (islands) in the Ryukyu Is. Amami-oshima I. specimens of R. sp. 1 were different from the specimens of other populations in having five to six cross lines on the caudal fin. We examined the early life history of fluviatile Rhinogobius at Amami-oshima I., based on rearing experiments, and estimated the age of wild specimens by counting otolith increments. Spawned egg capsules of “Rhinogobius sp. 1” at Amami-oshima I. were larger than those of amphidromous species. Their developmental stage in newly hatched larvae was similar to that of Okinawan R. sp. 1 in having a straight notochord; however, it had a flexed notochord earlier than that of Rhinogobius sp. 2 (hereinafter R. sp. 2) (aobara-yoshinobori or blue belly medium-egg type). The ontogenetic trajectory of “Rhinogobius sp. 1” in Amami-oshima I. was similar to Okinawan R. sp. 1 (30 days in larval duration) but different from R. sp. 2 (15 days). In amphidromous relatives of R. sp. 2, developmental timing during larval period was earlier than in the amphidromous relatives of R. sp. 1. It has been suggested that the phenomenon of fluvial landlocking has been accompanied somewhat by egg size increase (on the basis of a few examples). However, the ontogenetic trajectories of fluviatile Rhinogobius species may be a reflection of those of ancestral amphidromous species. Mobile genetic elements constitute a substantial part of eukaryotic genome and play an important role in its organization and functioning. Co-evolution of retrotransposons and their hosts resulted in the establishment of control systems employing mechanisms of RNA interference that seem to be impossible to evade. However, “active” copies of endogenous retrovirus gypsy escape cellular control in some cases, while its evolutionary elder “inactive” variants do not. To clarify the evolutionary relationship between “active” and “inactive” gypsy we combined two approaches: the analysis of gypsy sequences, isolated from G32 Drosophila melanogaster strain and from different Drosophila species of the melanogaster subgroup, as well as the study of databases, available on the Internet. No signs of “intermediate” (between “active” and “inactive”) gypsy form were found in GenBank, and four full-size G32 gypsy copies demonstrated a convergence that presumably involves gene conversion. No “active” gypsy were revealed among PCR generated gypsy ORF3 sequences from the various Drosophila species indicating that “active” gypsy appeared in some population of D. melanogaster and then started to spread out. Analysis of sequences flanking gypsy variants in G32 revealed their predominantly heterochromatic location. Discrepancy between the structure of actual gypsy sites in G32 and corresponding sequences in database might indicate significant inter-strain heterochromatin diversity. Two associated partial skeletons, one from the McCarty ranch (MOTTU site 0690) near Kalgary, Texas, Tecovas Formation, and the other from the Petrified Forest Member of the Chinle Formation, outside the Petrified Forest, Arizona, represent the most complete specimens ofPoposaurus gracilis found to date, and increase our understanding of the osteology of this rare pseudosuchian archosaur. The cervical centrum of TTUP-10419 possesses an accessory dorsal parapophyseal rib facet, as in “Lythrosuchus”. The ilia of these new fossils are the first ofPoposaurus to preserve the complete preacetabular blade, which is long and “blade-like” rather than “paddle-shaped” as previously thought. These specimens also confirm that isolated elements previously referred toPoposaurus (fused sacral vertebrae, the pubes and the ischia), but not present in the holotype indeed belong to that taxon. The morphology of the cervical centrum and the preacetabular blade of the ilium are identical to the much larger type of“Lythrosuchus” langstoni, suggesting that “Lythrosuchus” is a junior synonym ofPoposaurus. However, we retain the speciesPoposaurus langstoni nov. comb. on the basis of larger size, absence of a distinct ridge on the lateral surface of the ilium, and the lack of a pit on the proximal end of the ischium. A phylogenetic analysis suggests a monophyletic Poposauroidea and a paraphyletic “Rauisuchia”.  相似文献

Over two consecutive years in the North Bank Plain Zone of Assam, India, during the spring growing season (February–June) of- 2006 and 2007 we examined effects of morpho-physiological characteristics of rice (Oryza sativa L.) plants in relation to methane (CH4) emission from paddy fields. Traditional cultivar “Agni” and modern improved cultivar “Ranjit” were grown in light textured loamy soil under irrigation. A higher seasonal integrated methane flux (E sif) was recorded from “Agni” compared to “Ranjit”. Both cultivars exhibited an emission peak during active vegetative growth and a second peak at panicle initiation. Leaf and tiller number, leaf area, length, and volume of root were greater in “Agni”, but grain yield and yield-related parameters such as increased photosynthate partitioning to panicles at the expense of roots were greater in “Ranjit”. “Ranjit” also photosynthesed faster than “Agni” during panicle development but slower than “Agni” at tillering. In both the years, a higher soil organic carbon content was recorded in plots of “Agni”. Our results suggest that in “Agni” enhanced diversion of photosynthate to roots resulted in more substrate being available to methanogenic bacteria in the rhizosphere. Additionally, the more extensive vegetative growth of this cultivar may enhance methane transport from the soil to the above-ground atmosphere.  相似文献

Tea plant [Camellia sinensis (L.) O.Kuntze)] is one of the most popular non-alcoholic beverage crops in the world today. In recent years, many clonal tea cultivars have been developed and widely planted to replace the diverse traditional tea populations. In this article, we study the relationships between classifications based on simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers and on morphological traits for 185 tea plant cultivars. Results show that the genetic diversity index (H) is between 0.229 and 0.803, and the mean value is 0.543; the observed heterozygosity (H o) ranges from 0.103 to 0.683, with an average of 0.340, while the genetic identity varies from 0.267 to 0.984. Based on tea-making properties, the genetic diversity in the “black-green tea” group is much higher than in the “Oolong tea” group. Based on morphological traits, cluster analysis classifies the 185 cultivars into three groups, “group I,” “group II” and “group III.” Most cultivars are related based on the geographical origin and their genetic backgrounds.  相似文献

Carrageenophyte farming is an expanding economical activity in North Borneo Island, Malaysia. During routine monitoring of “ice-ice” disease and epiphyte outbreak at commercial farms, it was apparent that culture lines were heavily (60–80%) infested with biofoulers, particularly Acanthophora spp. and Laurencia majuscula. However, only L. majuscula showed dominance and flourished even during “ice-ice” disease outbreak. Presence of chemical defense against seaweed pathogens was investigated in two populations of L. majuscula collected from three major carrageenophyte farms in two districts; (A) Lohok Butun, Selakan Island, and Bum-Bum Island, in Semporna district, and (B) Telutuh, Carrington Reef, and Balambangan Island, in Kudat district. The first population contained elatol (1), and iso-obtusol (2), and, second population contained (Z)-10,15-dibromo-9-hydroxy-chamigra-1,3(15),7(14)-triene (3) and (E)-10-15-dibromo-9-hydroxy-chamigra-1,3(15),7(14)-triene (4), as their antibacterial metabolites. All four metabolites showed highly selective inhibition against “ice-ice” disease bacteria compared to human pathogens at 30 μg disk−1. In addition, seasonal variation of these compounds at two representative farms (Selakan Island [P-1] and Balambangan Island [P-2]) revealed a 120–170% increase in concentration during “ice-ice” disease outbreak. Microscopy of fresh specimens showed the presence of corps en cerise, which is the synthesis and storage site of halogenated metabolites at superficial cortical cells, branch tips, and trichoblasts. This suggests the importance of these metabolites as defense chemicals against “ice-ice” disease bacteria in L. majuscula that grows on seaweed culture lines.  相似文献

Persimmon (Diospyros kaki L.), belonging to the Ebenaceae family, has been used not only as a fresh fruit, but also for many medicinal uses. Carotenoids are the main pigment in persimmon fruit, which contribute significantly to fruit color and nutritional quality due to their composition and content. In this study, fruit quality indices, carotenoid contents and expression of carotenogenic genes were analyzed in two types of persimmon fruit. The results demonstrated that there was a positive correlation between fruit color and the contents of main composition and total carotenoids. Carotenoid accumulation in persimmon fruit resulted from the interaction of carotenogenic genes, but the molecular mechanisms responsible for accumulation of carotenoids in two types of persimmon fruit had a few differences. As a complete unit, the relatively low expression level of phytoene synthase gene (DkPSY) in “Niuxinshi” resulted in low carotenoid contents or even under the detection limit at the early fruit developmental stages; but low carotenoid contents in “Nishimurawase” were due to the relatively low expression level of carotenogenic genes other than DkPSY. At the late fruit developmental stages, increased expression levels of DkPSY, phytoene desaturase gene and beta-carotene hydroxylase gene (DkBCH) induced elevated carotenoid contents; because all carotenogenic genes strongly expressed in “Nishimurawase”, a large amount of carotenoids were accumulated. In addition, β-cryptoxanthin was the main composition whose content increased with the fruit maturity changes, which was mainly because of DkBCH which might lead more conversion of β-carotene to β-cryptoxanthin.  相似文献

The Role of Organic Acids in the Domestication of Oxalis tuberosa: A New Model for Studying Domestication Resulting in Opposing Crop Phenotypes. Though few crops display directly opposing domesticated phenotypes, these crops may be the key to understanding domestication processes that address conflicting selective pressures in the agricultural ecosystem. Two relatively well-known examples are cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz), which has high-cyanide and low-cyanide varieties, and potato (Solanum section Petota). Among the potatoes are several species, including the common potato (Solanum tuberosum L.), that have low levels of glycoalkaloids and there are other species of “bitter potato” with elevated levels of glycoalkaloids. We propose that Oxalis tuberosa Molina, “oca,” may represent a third example of such a crop system, with opposing high organic acid and low organic acid cultivars. Each cultivar set has different cultural food preparation practices (“use-categories”), similar to the “use-categories” that have been described for potatoes in the Andes (Brush et al. Economic Botany 35;70–88, 1981; Zimmerer Journal of Biogeography 18;165–178, 1991). Our initial analyses suggest that organic acids in tubers may be an important biochemical difference between use-categories, based on both oxalic acid and pH data. Here, we review our understanding of organic acids in oca tubers, while highlighting areas that merit further investigation.  相似文献

Sexual selection has driven the evolution and elaboration of a wide variety of displays and ornaments in male nonhuman primates, including capes, cheek flanges, and sexual coloration. Among the most sexually dimorphic of all primates is the drill (Mandrillus leucophaeus), the males of which can be 3 times the mass of females, possess large canines, and exhibit extremely bright sexual skin coloration. However, the function of male coloration in this species has never been examined. Here, we present data on male color (measured objectively using digital photography), dominance rank, measures of male-female association, and key sexual behaviors, of adult male drills (n = 17) living in four semi free-ranging enclosures at the Drill Rehabilitation and Breeding Center in Nigeria. We test the hypothesis that male coloration is a badge of status, indicating dominance rank, and the hypothesis that male coloration attracts females. We found that male coloration did indicate rank, and that high ranking, strongly colored males were more likely to associate with adult females, and more specifically with fully tumescent females. These males also engaged in more sexual activity. However, measures of male-female association and sexual behaviors were not related to male color once rank had been taken into consideration; i.e., for males of a given rank, females did not prefer those that were more colorful. We discuss the results in light of what is known about the wild drill social system, in which unfamiliar individuals may come together in “supergroups,” and in which quality indicators of competitive ability may be particularly important.  相似文献

The genus Phrixolepia Butler, 1877 is revised and its diagnosis is given. At present, the genus comprises 10 species, three of which are described as new (all the holotypes and paratypes are deposited in MWM): Ph. pudovkini Solovyev, sp. n., LT: “China, Shaanxi prov., Taibai Shan, Tsinling Mts., Houzhenzi, 33°53′ N; 107°49′ E, 1500 m,” genital slide 11389; Ph. sinyaevi Solovyev, sp. n., LT: “N. Vietnam, Cuc. Phuong, 60 km SW Hanoi, 20°15′ N; 105°20′ E, 400 m,” genital slide 11386; Ph. nigra Solovyev, sp. n., LT: “China, prov. Yunnan, Yunlong, Fengshuining Mts., 13 km N of Caojian, 2460 m,” genital slide 11391. All the species are very similar externally, except for differences in size, tints of the coloration, and the presence of a semi-ovoid bright apical spot in the fore wing. The features of the male genitalia are diagnostic. A key to the species is given. The phylogenetic relationships between the species are examined. The genus is closely related to Olona Snellen, 1900 and Phobetron Hübner, 1825, based on the characters of larval morphology. A similar larval morphology also found in the family Dalceridae could be a synapomorphy of the families Limacodidae and Dalceridae.  相似文献

The presence of the two morphs, “typical” and “large mouth”, in the Antarctic fish species Trematomus newnesi (Perciformes, Notothenioidei) was recorded for the first time in nearshore waters of the South Shetland Islands (Potter Cove) and western Antarctic Peninsula (Petermann Island). The two morphs were distinguishable in specimens of 60–241 mm total length (TL); about 30% of the specimens constituted intermediate forms. In addition to the previously known characters separating the morphs, we found that the “relative size of the eye” can also be used to identify smaller and larger fish of the typical morph. The ecological significance of the two morphs remains unclear. Ratios of diagnostic characters for identification of the species at two size ranges (60–131 and 132–241 mm TL) are provided.  相似文献

The genetic diversity and relationship among four morphotypes of Rhinogobius sp. OR, Gobiidae (“Tōshoku,” “Shinjiko,” “Gi-tōshoku,” and “Shimahire”) were investigated with seven microsatellite DNA loci, and amphidromy of these morphotypes was verified by strontium (Sr) and calcium (Ca) deposition in the otolith. Samples of “Tōshoku,” “Shinjiko,” “Gi-tōshoku,” and “Shimahire” were collected from, respectively, three, three, two, and four locations in Japan. Microsatellite analysis detected high genetic diversity (based on the number of alleles, allelic richness, and average observed heterozygosity) in the “Tōshoku” and “Shinjiko” morphotypes relative to the “Shimahire” morphotype; the “Gi-tōshoku” morphotype had an intermediate level of variation. Almost all pairwise F ST values were significantly different from zero (P < 0.001), except between two populations of “Tōshoku.” Clear genetic independence was observed between the “Shinjiko” and “Shimahire” morphotypes in the Maruyama River. A principle component analysis based on microsatellite data indicated that the “Tōshoku,” “Shinjiko,” and “Gi-tōshoku” morphotypes were genetically similar. Furthermore, the three populations of “Tōshoku” were closely related each other, and two of those collected from the Lake Biwa system were a single population. There was, however, a high degree of genetic differentiation between “Shimahire” and the other morphotypes; moreover, there was high genetic divergence among four populations of the “Shimahire” morphotype. Amphidromous migratory histories were indicated by Sr:Ca ratios in two of three populations of the “Shinjiko” morphotype and in one of two “Gi-tōshoku” morphotypes, whereas all populations of the “Shimahire” morphotype were freshwater residents. The large genetic divergence and low genetic diversity in “Shimahire” are likely related to migration history.  相似文献

Here, we have characterized four pH-dependent states: alkaline state, “B” (pH 9.0), native state, “N” (pH 7.4), acid-induced state, “A” (pH 2.2) and molten globule state, “MG” (pH 1.8) of Rhizopus niveus lipase (RNL) by CD, tryptophanyl fluorescence, ANS binding, DLS, and enzyme activity assay. This “MG” state lacks catalytic activity and tertiary structure but it has native-like significant secondary structure. The “R h” of all the four states of RNL obtained from DLS study suggests that the molecular compactness of the protein increases as the pH of solution decreases. Kinetic analysis of RNL shows that it has maximum catalytic efficiency at state “B” which is 15-fold higher than state “N.” The CD and tryptophanyl fluorescence studies of RNL on GuHCl and temperature-induced unfolding reveal that the “MG” state is more stable than the other states. The DSC endotherms of RNL obtained at pH 9.0, 7.4, and 2.2 were with two transitions, while at pH 1.8 it showed only a single transition.  相似文献

Residential form of white-spotted char Salvelinus leucomaenis appears in volcanic stream characterized by stable water and temperature regime. The maximal body length of fish is 285 mm and body mass is 245 g; the oldest specimen is 7 years old. The somatic growth does not relax, and the annual growth rate is 30–40 mm. The maturation begins at the age of 4 years after the fish reaches 175 mm length and 60 g in weight. The spawning takes place in autumn. Sex dimorphism and nuptial coloration are not observed, and the “spotted” coloration remains through the year. Vomer is toothless, or only one tooth is presented (in 15% of sampled specimens). Sagittal otoliths are characterized by deformation granular texture of ventral area, the layering is broken. The food spectra of a mature specimen comprises gammarids, large-size larvae, and imagoes of amphibiotic insects during the summer period.  相似文献

A detailed analysis of allometric variation and sexual dimorphism in Lycodes yamatoi (Perciformes: Zoarcidae) was carried out using an original method developed by the authors. An allometric pattern of growth was revealed not only in plastic but in some meristic characters, such as the number of teeth on the bones of the mouthparts and the number of gill rakers on the first gill arc. It was determined that most of the morphological characters of L. yamatoi were subjected to positive allometric variability (the proportions of the head and the anterior part of the body), while growth of the remaining characters was specified by negative allometry (the length of the rays of pair and caudal fins, interorbital distance, and isthmus width) and isometry (the standard length, ante-anal distance, and head width on the vertical neck). The juveniles of L. yamatoi have no significant sexual distinctions either in plastic or in meristic characters. Adult females and males of L. yamatoi significantly differed by characters composing the head complex, the actual length of the head, and correlatively related with it ante-dorsal and ante-pectoral distances. The dimensional indexes of antedorsal and ante-pectoral distances, and the relative sizes of maxillary bones (lmx/c) are of the greatest diagnostic value for sex differentiation.  相似文献

The change from vegetative to reproductive development (earliness) in Lycopersicon chesmannii line L2 was delayed for 20 weeks when compared to other Lycopersicon species under greenhouse conditions. The interspecific hybrid of L. chesmannii L2 and L. esculentum E9, a cherry tomato cultivar, also showed this delay in reproductive development. The distribution of this character in the F2-derived population showed a bimodal shape, plants could be scored easily as “early” or “late” in two nutrient conditions (optimum and high salinity). A QTL with major effects on earliness was detected in salinity, which explained 35.6% of the phenotypic variation. The effect of this QTL greatly diminished under control conditions, indicating differences in the genetic control of earliness between treatments. ACC synthase or phytochrome B2 are the products of candidate genes for such a major QTL. Other QTLs with minor effects, and epistatic interactions, are also involved in earliness under both conditions. A “late” F2 subpopulation yielded twice as much as an “early” F2; conversely, “early” plants were taller than “late” plants, regardless of the treatment. QTL analysis, carried out in both subpopulations, showed that yield differences may be explained by chesmannii alleles showing negative additive effects at some QTLs only in the “early” subpopulation. The effect of population subdivision on QTL analysis was investigated by computer simulations to show sample-size or random effects; thus, important pleiotropic or regulatory effects of genes controlling earliness on yield that affect QTL analysis, have been reveiled. Therefore alleles controlling earliness in L. chesmannii have to be taken into account for a more efficient utilization of the genetic resources of this species.
