Tales from the underground: molecular   总被引:17,自引:0,他引:17
Colonization of the rhizosphere by micro‐organisms results in modifications in plant growth and development. This review examines the mechanisms involved in growth promotion by plant growth‐promoting rhizobacteria which are divided into indirect and direct effects. Direct effects include enhanced provision of nutrients and the production of phytohormones. Indirect effects involve aspects of biological control: the production of antibiotics and iron‐chelating siderophores and the induction of plant resistance mechanisms. The study of the molecular basis of growth promotion demonstrated the important role of bacterial traits (motility, adhesion and growth rate) for colonization. New research areas emerge from the discovery that molecular signalling occurs through plant perception of eubacterial flagellins. Recent perspectives in the molecular genetics of cross‐talking mechanisms governing plant–rhizobacteria interactions are also discussed.  相似文献

The trans-Golgi network is a major sorting platform of the secretory pathway from which proteins and lipids, both newly synthesized and retrieved from endocytic compartments, are targeted to different destinations. These sorting processes occur during the formation of pleomorphic tubular-vesicular carriers. The past years have provided insights into basic mechanisms coordinating the spatial and temporal organization of machineries necessary for the segregation of membrane components into distinct microdomains, for the bending, elongation, and fission of corresponding membranes, thus revealing a complex interplay of protein-protein and protein-lipid interactions.  相似文献

Recent studies have suggested that proteins found at the tips of microtubules in vertebrate cells may play an important role in intracellular membrane transport processes. Evidence from fission yeast indicates that such proteins can also regulate microtubule dynamics.  相似文献

Cochlear implants: the view from the brain   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
The cochlear implant arguably is the most successful neural prosthesis. Studies of the responses of the central auditory system to prosthetic electrical stimulation of the cochlea are revealing the success with which electrical stimulation of a deaf ear can mimic acoustic stimulation of a normal-hearing ear. Understanding of the physiology of central auditory structures can lead to improved restoration of hearing with cochlear implants. In turn, the cochlear implant can be exploited as an experimental tool for examining central hearing mechanisms isolated from the effects of cochlear mechanics and transduction.  相似文献
