The influence of a transverse magnetic field on the characteristics of the positive column of a planar low-pressure discharge is studied theoretically. The motion of magnetized electrons is described in the framework of a continuous-medium model, while the ion motion in the ambipolar electric field is described by means of a kinetic equation. Using mathematical transformations, the problem is reduced to a secondorder ordinary differential equation, from which the spatial distribution of the potential is found in an analytic form. The spatial distributions of the plasma density, mean plasma velocity, and electric potential are calculated, the ion velocity distribution function at the plasma boundary is found, and the electron energy as a function of the magnetic field is determined. It is shown that, as the magnetic field rises, the electron energy increases, the distributions of the plasma density and mean plasma velocity become asymmetric, the maximum of the plasma density is displaced in the direction of the Ampère force, and the ion flux in this direction becomes substantially larger than the counter-directed ion flux.  相似文献

A nonisothermal model of the positive column allowing for electron energy balance is analyzed. The influence of the axial magnetic field on the characteristics of the cylindrical positive column of a low-pressure discharge is investigated in the hydrodynamic approximation. It is shown that the magnetic field affects the plasma density distribution, plasma velocity, and electron energies. The radial dependences of the plasma density, electron energy, and plasma velocity, as well as the azimuthal velocities of electrons and ions, are calculated for helium at different values of the magnetic field strength. It is established that inertia should be taken into account in the equations for the azimuthal motion of electrons and ions. The results obtained in the hydrodynamic approximation differ significantly from those obtained in the framework of the common diffusion model of the positive column in the axial magnetic field. It is shown that the distributions of the plasma density and radial plasma velocity in the greater part of the positive column tend to those obtained in the diffusion approximation at higher values of the axial magnetic field and gas density, although substantial differences remain in the near-wall region.  相似文献

Sheaths isolated from Gloeobacter violaceus were found to be composed of a major polysaccharide moiety (glucose, galactose, rhamnose, mannose, arabinose), a protein moiety, and negatively charged components (glucuronic acids, phosphate, sulfate). Outer membrane polypeptide patterns were dominated by two major peptidoglycan-associated proteins (Mr 62,000 and 53,000). Lipopolysaccharide constituents were glucosamine, 3-hydroxy fatty acids (3-OH-14:0, anteiso-3-OH-15:0, 3-OH-16:0, 3-OH-18:0), carbohydrates, and phosphate. A1-type peptidoglycan and non-peptidoglycan components (mannosamine, glucose, mannose, and glucosamine) indicated the presence of a peptidoglycan-polysaccharide complex in the cell walls of Gloeobacter violaceus.Abbreviations A2pm diaminopimelic acid - ATCC American Type Culture Collection - CE cell envelope - CM cytoplasmic membrane - CW cell wall - dOcla 3-deoxy-d-manno-2-octulosonic acid - GalN galactosamine - GlcN glucosamine - GlcUA glucuronic acid - HF hydrofluoric acid - LPS lipopolysaccharide - ManN mannosamine - M relative molecular mass - MurN muramic acid - MurN-6-P muramic acid-6-phosphate - OMe O-methyl - PAGE polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis - PCC Pasteur Culture Collection - SDS sodium dodecyl sulfate - SH sheath  相似文献

A phenomenological theory is presented for the kinetics of the in vitro assembly and disassembly of icosahedral virus capsids in solutions of coat proteins. The focus is on conditions where nucleation-type processes can be ignored. We find that the kinetics of assembly is strongly concentration dependent and that the late-stage relaxation time varies as the inverse of the square of the concentration. These findings are corroborated by experimental observations on a number of viruses. Further, our theory shows that hysteresis observed in some experiments could be a direct effect of the kinetics of a high-order mass action law, not necessarily the result of a free energy barrier between assembled and disassembled states.  相似文献

A model is developed for simulating a low-current moderate-pressure RF discharge with allowance for such characteristic discharge properties as the existence of two sheaths near both electrodes throughout the RF field period; the formation of an electron cloud at the sheath boundary that periodically fills the sheath and leaves it, depending on the phase of the applied RF voltage; the production by the sheath electrons of metastable gas particles that interact with the cloud electrons during subsequent field periods, followed by the excitation of metastable states to the emitting levels; the formation of a sheath in a low-current RF discharge due to the overlap of the secondary electron avalanches triggered by electron photoemission from the electrode surface; and the conditions under which the sheath electrons penetrate into the positive column and accumulate there, which makes, thereby making a low-current RF discharge similar to a non-self-sustained discharge. The parameters of the sheath in a low-current RF discharge are determined by the conditions under which the electron photoemission current from the electrode surface in the sheath is self-sustaining and, like the parameters of the positive discharge column, depend on the sort of gas, the gas pressure, the frequency of the applied RF field, and the interelectrode distance. The results of calculating the parameters of the sheath and column of a low-current RF discharge for nitrogen and helium at different pressures, as well as for different field frequencies and interelectrode distances, are presented and are compared with the experimental data.  相似文献

The broaden-and-build theory describes the form and function of a subset of positive emotions, including joy, interest, contentment and love. A key proposition is that these positive emotions broaden an individual's momentary thought-action repertoire: joy sparks the urge to play, interest sparks the urge to explore, contentment sparks the urge to savour and integrate, and love sparks a recurring cycle of each of these urges within safe, close relationships. The broadened mindsets arising from these positive emotions are contrasted to the narrowed mindsets sparked by many negative emotions (i.e. specific action tendencies, such as attack or flee). A second key proposition concerns the consequences of these broadened mindsets: by broadening an individual's momentary thought-action repertoire--whether through play, exploration or similar activities--positive emotions promote discovery of novel and creative actions, ideas and social bonds, which in turn build that individual's personal resources; ranging from physical and intellectual resources, to social and psychological resources. Importantly, these resources function as reserves that can be drawn on later to improve the odds of successful coping and survival. This chapter reviews the latest empirical evidence supporting the broaden-and-build theory and draws out implications the theory holds for optimizing health and well-being.  相似文献

This article proposes a simple "in-situ" pulse respirometric method for the estimation of four important kinetic and stoichiometric parameters. The method is validated in a suspended biomass nitrifying reactor for the determination of (i) maximum oxygen uptake rate (OUR(ex)max), (ii) oxidation yield (f(E)), (iii) biomass growth yield (f(S)), and (iv) affinity constant (K(S)). OUR(ex)max and f(E) were directly obtained from respirograms. In the presented case study, a minimum substrate pulse of 10 mgNH(4) (+)-N L(-1) was necessary to determine OUR(ex)max which was 61.15 +/- 4.09 mgO(2) L(-1) h(-1) (5 repetitions). A linear correlation (r(2) = 0.93) obtained between OUR(ex)max and the biomass concentration in the reactor suggests that biomass concentration can be estimated from respirometric experiments. The substrate oxidation yield, f(E), was determined along 60 days of continuous operation with an average error of 5.6%. The biomass growth yield was indirectly estimated from the substrate oxidation yield f(E). The average obtained value (0.10 +/- 0.04 mgCOD mg(-1)COD) was in accordance with the f(S) estimation by the traditional COD mass balance method under steady-state conditions (0.09 +/- 0.01). The affinity constant K(S) was indirectly estimated after fitting the ascending part of the respirogram to a theoretical model. An average value of 0.48 +/- 0.08 mgNH(4) (+)-N L(-1) was obtained, which is in the range of affinity constants reported in the literature for the nitrification process (0.16-2 mgNH(4) (+)-N L(-1)).  相似文献

Urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA), a serine proteinase, is important in the development and epidermal wound healing, and seems to play a regulatory role in the proliferation of mouse epidermal keratinocytes (KC). In the present study, we found detectable uPA expression in outer root sheath (ORS) KC in the early anagen phase in mouse vibrissa follicles, but not in the late anagen or in the telogen and categen phases. uPA was also detected in ORS KC cultured from neonatal mice vibrissa. Specific exogenous inhibitors of uPA, amiloride and uPA antibody, significantly reduced the proliferation of ORS KC. Thus uPA is consistently elevated in the hyperproliferative hair follicle KC, and inhibition of the enzyme decreases hair follicle KC proliferation. We deduce that uPA is a very important mediator of the hair follicle cycle because its activity correlates with ORS KC proliferation.  相似文献

The most superficial cell wall layer present in smooth-colony-forming mycobacteria was isolated from serovar 20 of the Mycobacterium avium-Mycobacterium intracellulare-Mycobacterium scrofulaceum (MAIS) serocomplex and examined chemically and by electron microscopy. Most (70 to 80%) of the fibrillar material consisted of an array of serologically active, acetylated C-myosidic peptidoglycoplipids with the basic structure (formula, see text) but in which the location of acetyl groups and the arrangement of monosaccharides have not been defined. Apparently, all serovars within the MAIS complex are characterized by structurally related superficies in which the monoglycosyl-lipopeptide portion is invariable but the oligosaccharide attachment is peculiar to each serovar. These unique inert structures may be an important factor in shielding the pathogen within phagolysosomes from lysosomal enzymes.  相似文献

The change of fluidity with temperature is logarithmic: log φ=A?Q/TT is absolute temperature. The change of the constants with concentration and mastication suggests that rubber contains long filamentous molecules.  相似文献

Ion selectivity of ionophorous antibiotics has been measured in many equilibrium experiments such as solvent extraction, electric potential and conductance across an artificial bilayer membrane. However in general these measurements cannot be interpreted as the ion selectivity in a non-equilibrium transporting state which is typically the state of a biological system. This point is explained in this paper based on the simple kinetic theories presented in the preceding papers (Huang, 1971a, Huang, 1971b). The exceptional case of the Eyring model and the Eisenman-Ciani-Szabo model is discussed. It is also found that if the no one-ion-exchange assumption in the theory for the valinomycin-type antibiotics (Huang, 1971b) is relaxed such that the antibiotic S reacts with cation I+ and anion X? in the following way I+ + S ? IS+, X? + IS+ ? ISX, then the previous equation of cation transport remains unchanged while no simple equation can be written for the anion transport.  相似文献

The characteristics of the initial stage of the formation of the positive column of a glow discharge in nitrogen at reduced pressures are studied experimentally and numerically. A dip in the plasma emission intensity in the initial stage of the discharge (the so-called “dark phase”) is observed experimentally at the positive polarity of the high-voltage electrode (the cathode is grounded). The dark phase is preceded by an ionization wave (IW). When the anode is grounded, neither an IW nor a dip in the discharge emission intensity are observed. A theoretical model capable of describing the discharge development under the actual experimental conditions is constructed. It is shown that the dark phase effect may be caused by the high electron density (above the steady-state one) produced in the gas during the passage of the IW across the discharge gap. This mechanism of the dark phase formation differs from the mechanism proposed earlier to explain a similar effect in noble gases. Additional experiments carried out with pure argon, helium, and helium with a nitrogen admixture have shown that, in the case of a grounded cathode, gas breakdown is also accompanied by the passage of an IW, whereas in the case of a grounded anode, no IW is observed; however, the dark phase is present in both cases. It is shown using computer simulations that, in nitrogen (in contrast to noble gases), the mechanism resulting in the dark phase effect does not operate in the absence of an IW.  相似文献

The bacterial cell wall is a mesh polymer of peptidoglycan – linear glycan strands cross‐linked by flexible peptides – that determines cell shape and provides physical protection. While the glycan strands in thin ‘Gram‐negative’ peptidoglycan are known to run circumferentially around the cell, the architecture of the thicker ‘Gram‐positive’ form remains unclear. Using electron cryotomography, here we show that Bacillus subtilis peptidoglycan is a uniformly dense layer with a textured surface. We further show it rips circumferentially, curls and thickens at free edges, and extends longitudinally when denatured. Molecular dynamics simulations show that only atomic models based on the circumferential topology recapitulate the observed curling and thickening, in support of an ‘inside‐to‐outside’ assembly process. We conclude that instead of being perpendicular to the cell surface or wrapped in coiled cables (two alternative models), the glycan strands in Gram‐positive cell walls run circumferentially around the cell just as they do in Gram‐negative cells. Together with providing insights into the architecture of the ultimate determinant of cell shape, this study is important because Gram‐positive peptidoglycan is an antibiotic target crucial to the viability of several important rod‐shaped pathogens including Bacillus anthracis, Listeria monocytogenes, and Clostridium difficile.  相似文献

The embryonic vertebral column is derived from the unsegmented axial mesenchyme surrounding the notochord, and its development and differentiation are influenced by the notochord. The role of cartilage in determining the ultimate pattern of the segmental skeleton has been well documented, but a gene whose segmental expression corresponds to the pattern of the developing skeleton has yet to be identified. We show that chick aggrecan is initially expressed within the entire length of the notochord, and as development proceeds, aggrecan expression becomes restricted to the surrounding perinotochordal sheath in a segmental pattern, mirroring the differentiated somite pattern.  相似文献

Results are presented from studies of the optical characteristics and parameters of plasma of a dielectric barrier discharge in a mixture of mercury dibromide vapor with neon—the working medium of a non-coaxial exciplex gas-discharge emitter. The electron energy distribution function, the transport characteristics, the specific power losses for electron processes, the electron density and temperature, and the rate constants for the processes of elastic and inelastic electron scattering by the working mixture components are determined as functions of the reduced electric field. The rate constant of the process leading to the formation of exciplex mercury monobromide molecules is found to be 1.6 × 10?14 m3/s for a reduced electric field of E/N = 15 Td, at which the maximum emission intensity in the blue-green spectral region (λmax = 502 nm) was observed in this experiment.  相似文献
