We wished to compare cumulus oocyte complex (COC) recovery and follicle development after single and repeated ultrasound-guided transvaginal follicle aspiration (aspiration). Aspirations were performed in Holstein-Friesian heifers every once weekly (every 7 d; n = 12) or twice weekly (every 3 or 4 d; n = 6) starting on Days 3 or 4 of the estrous cycle (estrus = Day 0) and continuing for 4 wk. During each session, all visible follicles > 2 mm were aspirated using an 7.5 MHz transducer to guide an 18 ga x 60 cm single lumen needle and applying 50 mm Hg vacuum which generated 25 mL/min. The COC's harvested from each follicle were counted and classified into 4 categories. Post-aspiration follicle wave emergence was traced by daily ultrasound examinations. A total of 1410 follicles were aspirated during 96 sessions, yielding 632 (45%)oocytes. There was no difference in average COC/follicle recovered between the single vs the repeated aspiration treatment. However, ovaries of heifers subjected to two aspirations per week yielded more follicles (17.2 +/- 5.7 vs 12.4 +/- 6.1; P < 0.01) and COC's (7.7 +/- 4.5 vs 5.4 +/- 3.7; P < 0.01) per session than those subjected to a single aspiration. Ovaries of heifers subjected to twice weekly aspirations at 4-d intervals resulted in a higher recovery rate (51.1 vs 38.6%), yielded more COC's (9.3 +/- 4.7 vs 6.2 +/- 3.8) and a higher number of viable COC's recovered per session (7.6 +/- 3.8 vs 5.2 +/- 3.3) than those aspirated every 3 d, all P < 0.01. Aspiration-induced follicle waves were indicated by an increased number of follicle > or = 4 mm seen within 2 d of the procedure. We conclude that follicle aspiration appears to induce and synchronize follicle waves, and when it is done twice a week it is associated with higher number of harvestable follicles and more oocytes recovered than when done once a week. These results can be attributed to the aspiration of a newly recruited pull of follicles 3 or 4 d after the first aspiration and before the establishment of follicular dominance and regression of subordinate follicles.  相似文献

Repeated transvaginal ultrasound guided puncturing of visible follicles was performed for ovum pick-up (OPU) during Periods A and B, each of which lasted 3 mo. During Period A, 10 cows (A) were used in the study. Period B commenced 1 mo after Period A and two groups of animals were used. The first group (B1) consisted of 9 of 10 cows from Group A. The second experimental group of animals in Period B consisted of 11 cows (B2) which had not been submitted to previous puncture. During the study, all visible follicles larger than 3 mm were punctured and aspirated three times, on Day 3 or 4, Day 9 or 10 and Day 15 or 16 of the estrous cycle. The mean estrous cycle length (+/- SEM) after repeated follicle puncture did not differ among the three groups and was 22.3 +/- 0.4, 22.5 +/- 0.4 and 22.1 +/- 0.3 d for groups A, B1 and B2, respectively. The mean total number (+/- SEM) of punctured follicles per estrous cycle in Group A (13.1 +/- 0.5) was significantly larger than in Groups B1 (11.2 +/- 0.4) and B2 (11.6 +/- 0.4). The largest number of follicles punctured for ovum pick-up in all three groups was always on Day 3 or 4 of the estrous cycle: 4.9 +/- 0.3 follicles; the mean (+/- SEM) number of punctured follicles on Day 9 or 10 and Day 15 or 16 was significantly (P<0.05) lower: 3.4 +/- 0.2 and 3.9 +/- 0.2, respectively. In Period A, primarily 3- to 5-mm follicles were punctured per estrous cycle, while 6- to 10-mm follicles were predominantly punctured in Period B (P<0.05). Recovery rate of oocytes on Day 3 or 4, Day 9 or 10 and Day 15 or 16 were 53, 50 and 52%, respectively. Most oocytes (P<0.05) were aspirated from follicles smaller than 10 mm.  相似文献

In response to the increasing research into primordial and preantral follicular dynamics, a device for transvaginal, ultrasound-guided biopsy collection of the bovine ovary was developed and tested. The new device is based upon a commercially available Ovum Pick-up instrument and consists of a modified needle guidance system, which has been equipped with a trocar needle and caries a 60 cm long true-cut biopsy needle. Biopsies are captured in a 20mm long and 2mm wide specimen notch. In the present experiment, 10 cows were subjected to a twice weekly biopsy regime over a four-week period. A total of 208 attempts at biopsy collection were made, and 141 tissue samples collected (success rate of 68%). Through histological and immunological analyses, these tissue samples have been shown to contain primordial and preantral follicles. At the end of the trial period, several of the donor cows were slaughtered at timed intervals, and the ovaries were harvested for assessment of the damage inflicted by the repeated biopsy procedure. Post mortem ovaries were inspected macroscopically and examined by conventional histological staining. In ovaries retrieved 2 days after the last biopsy session, blood clots were macroscopically apparent throughout the ovaries. Histological examination showed increased infiltration of red blood cells in the ovarian stroma. Analysis from ovaries collected at subsequent slaughter points revealed reduced infiltration of blood, and clear indications of resumed antral follicle development were apparent towards the end of the first month after the trial period. We conclude that the biopsy sampling technique is a repeatable procedure which could serve as a renewable source of primordial and preantral follicles for culture, and as an in vitro model for the study of preantral follicular dynamics.  相似文献

In Experiments 1 and 2, ultrasound-guided transvaginal follicle aspiration was used as a method of follicle ablation to induce and synchronize subsequent follicular wave emergence and enhance ovulation synchrony following PGF(2alpha) administration. Heifers were at unknown stages of the estrous cycle at the start of both experiments in which all follicles >/=5 mm in diameter were ablated; luteolysis was induced 4 d later with cloprostenol (500 ug/dose, im). In Experiment 1, heifers were randomly assigned to either an ablation (n=17) or a procedural control (no follicle ablation, n=17) group. Ablation-induced wave emergence was indicated by a significant increase in the total number of follicles >/=5 mm within 2 d of ablation (mean, 1.5 d), which was preceded by a significant surge in circulating FSH. Although the mean (+/-SEM) interval from PGF(2alpha) administration to ovulation did not differ between follicle-ablated heifers (5.1+/-0.5 d range, 3 to 9 d) and control heifers (5.1+/-1.0 d; range, 1 to 5 d), the variability of the interval was different (P<0.05). Inequality of variance between the 2 groups was attributed to a greater (P<0.08) degree of ovulation synchrony in the ablation group than in the control group; 13 16 (81%) versus 9 17 (53%), respectively, ovulated within 5 d of cloprostenol administration. Relative asynchrony of ovulations in control heifers was associated with the status of the follicular wave at the time of PGF(2alpha) administration and, in part, to incomplete luteolysis following a single dose of PGF(2alpha). Experiment 2 was designed to examine the efficacy of 2 doses of cloprostenol 12 h apart (n=7) versus a single dose (n=8) to induce complete luteolysis subsequent to follicle ablation-induced wave emergence. Two doses of cloprostenol potentiated ovulation synchrony; more (P<0.05) 2-dose heifers (7 7 , 100%) than single-dose heifers (4 8 , 50%) ovulated within 5 d after PGF(2alpha) administration. In summary, ultrasound-guided transvaginal follicle ablation, done at random during the estrous cycle, induced and synchronized subsequent follicular wave emergence, and resulted in a high degree of ovulation synchrony among heifers after PGF(2alpha) induced luteolysis, especially when 2 doses of PGF(2alpha) were administered 12 h apart.  相似文献

We evaluated the relationship between follicle size and oocyte recovery (OR) using ultrasound-guided follicle aspiration. Thirty Holstein cows were subjected to OR without gonadotrophic therapy. Oocytes were recovered two to four times from each cow in a total of 67 aspiration sessions. Ovarian follicles with diameters < or =4 mm and >4 mm were aspirated in separated groups. Recovered oocytes from each group were kept separate and submitted to in vitro maturation, fertilization, and culture to the blastocyst stage. A total of 430 follicles were aspirated, of which 154 (35.8%) were from follicles >4 mm and 276 (64.2%) were from follicles < or =4 mm. Seventy-seven oocytes (50%) were recovered from follicles >4 mm and 200 (72.2%) were from follicles < or =4 mm. Nineteen blastocysts were obtained from follicles >4 mm, whereas 45 blastocysts were obtained from follicles < or =4 mm. Recovery rate was greater (P<0.01) in follicles < or =4 mm. Oocyte quality, cleavage rate and blastocyst development did not differ between different follicle sizes. Routine aspiration of small follicles (< or =4 mm) could increase the number of oocytes available for in vitro development.  相似文献

Endocrine changes and recovered oocytes were evaluated during 16 wk of ultrasound-guided transvaginal follicular aspiration (TVFA) and prior to and following administration of GnRH at the cessation of aspiration. Nonlactating previously aspirated (PAC, n = 4) and non-aspirated, (AC, n = 4) Holstein cows were subjected to 16 wk of twice-weekly aspiration. Four control cows (OAC) were aspirated 1 time only at the final TVFA session (wk 16). Jugular blood samples were collected from all cows during aspiration, before and after the final TVFA session, and during an 18-d period following cessation of aspiration. Ovarian activity was monitored in all cows after cessation of aspiration for 18 d. The PAC and AC cows averaged 3.4 +/- 1.2 (+/- SE) and 6.8 +/- 1.2 oocytes per session, respectively. Progesterone concentrations during TVFA did not differ between the PAC and AC (0.8 +/- 0.1 and 0.9 +/- 0.1 ng/mL, respectively). Progesterone concentration in OAC was 4.5 +/- 0.2 ng/mL before TVFA, while the PAC and AC averaged 0.5 +/- 0.2 and 0.3 +/- 0.2 ng/mL, respectively, at 16 wk. At Week 16 LH was 1.0 +/- 0.2 ng/mL and it increased to 7.5 +/- 0.1 ng/mL after GnRH treatment. The LH concentration before the final aspiration session was higher at peak amplitude in PAC than in AC groups and peak length was longer in OAC than in AC cows (P < 0.07). Between 18 and 24 h after the last aspiration there were more LH peaks and greater peak frequencies in PAC than in OAC cows (P < 0.07), and the interval between peaks was longer in PAC and AC cows (P < 0.10) than in OAC cows. Mean FSH concentrations were lower (P < 0.01) for OAC than for PAC and AC groups at 20 and 24 h after the last aspiration. Follicle numbers after GnRH varied most among treatment groups for follicles < 9 mm, with the PAC, AC and OAC averaging 5.1 +/- 1.0, 5.1 +/- 1.0, and 3.8 +/- 1.0 follicles/d, respectively. Progesterone concentrations increased to 1.1 +/- 0.3 ng/mL in PAC cows and 2.5 +/- 0.3 and 3.4 +/- 0.3 ng/mL in AC and OAC groups, respectively, during the 18-d period. These results suggest that long-term TVFA affects progesterone, LH and FSH profiles and ovarian dynamics in cows.  相似文献

A new device was developed to hold linear transducers for transvaginal follicle aspiration. Efficacy of follicle aspiration was compared using a linear 6 MHz and a convex 5 MHz transducer. Fifty-five cows were submitted to follicle aspiration at random days of the estrous cycle. Aspirations were conducted with linear (n=28) and convex (n=38) transducers with 18 G needles at a negative pressure corresponding to 13 ml H(2)O/min. A greater number of follicles were aspirated using convex than to linear probe (12.4 versus 7.8, respectively, P<0.05). Mean number of oocytes and recovery rates were similar for convex (5.4 and 48.6%) and linear (4.6 and 59.3%) transducers. Limited space between the linear transducer and needle guide restricted access to some portions of the ovary, reducing the number of follicles aspirated using a linear transducer. The newly developed adaptor allowed greater stability, holding the ovaries firmly against the linear transducer. This diminished mobility permitted a similar number of oocytes to be recovered with both transducers. In conclusion, this new adaptor provided a low cost alternative for routine follicle aspiration and oocyte recovery in cattle.  相似文献

Transvaginal ovum pick-up (OPU) offers several advantages over standard embryo transfer procedures. For a systematic comparison of the ultrasound-guided (U-OPU) and the laparoscopic OPU (L-OPU) method, groups of Simmental heifers were subjected to 1 of the 2 OPU-methods for 8 wk (15 sessions) followed by a treatment-free interval of 11 wk and then another 8-wk period of OPU using the alternative method. Parameters that were evaluated included the number of follicles aspirated, number and morphology of recovered cumulus-oocyte complexes (COCs), and developmental capacity of oocytes after in vitro maturation (IVM) and fertilization (IVF). Blood samples were also taken from the donors twice a wk for progesterone measurement. To evaluate effects of long-term OPU on subsequent fertility of donors, all heifers (n = 14) were inseminated during the first natural estrus after the OPU experiment. The proportion of Class I oocytes was significantly (P < 0.001) higher after U-OPU than after L-OPU (38.7% vs 21.0%). Following IVM/IVF, this difference in oocyte quality was reflected by the cleavage rate (U-OPU: 58.1%; L-OPU: 52.1%; P < 0.05) and the rate of development to morulae and blastocysts (U-OPU: 27.1%; L-OPU: 13.9%; P < 0.001). Among other factors, the greater changes in vacuum pressure during L-OPU vs U-OPU might be responsible for the difference in oocyte quality. This problem may be overcome by a more flexible system for regulating the vacuum. Progesterone levels were higher during the L-OPU than the U-OPU periods. Seven donors (50%) were diagnosed pregnant by ultrasonography on Day 28 and by palpation per rectum on Day 42.  相似文献

The present study was undertaken in Karan Fries, an Indian breed of cattle to (1) determine the number of follicles available for puncture and (2) explore the potential of this breed as a donor of developmentally competent oocytes. Ovum pick-up (OPU) was performed using an ultrasound machine with a transvaginal convex transducer (5 MHz) with a needle guide, single lumen 19-gauge 60 cm long needle and a vacuum pressure of 90 mmHg. The number and size of follicles in each ovary was determined before puncture. The follicles were characterized on the basis of their diameter as small (3-5 mm), medium (6-9 mm) and large (>/=10 mm). The oocytes recovered were classified by quality. They were matured in vitro, irrespective of their grade, in 50 microl droplets of the in vitro maturation (IVM) medium (TCM-199+10% fetal bovine serum(FBS)+5 microg/ml follicle stimulating hormone (folltropin)+1 microg/ml estradiol-17beta+0.2 mM sodium pyruvate), covered with paraffin oil, in 35 mm petridish for 24 h in a CO(2) incubator (5% CO(2) in air) at 38.5 degrees C. The cleavage rate was recorded at day 2 post-insemination after subjecting the oocytes to in vitro fertilization (IVF). The differences in follicular populations of all size categories among individual donors were not significant. A total of 92 oocytes were recovered by aspiration of 157 follicles, with an overall recovery rate of 59% (range 35-79%). Of these, 32% were of grades A and B and the rest of grades C and D. The mean numbers of total follicles and the oocytes recovered per session did not differ significantly among individual donors. Out of the 73 oocytes subjected to IVM and IVF, 24 reached 2-4 cell stage at day 2 post-fertilization, with a cleavage rate of 33%. The total number of oocytes recovered was correlated with the number of small (R=0.54, P<0.01) but not with the number of medium and large follicles. This study demonstrates the use of OPU as a means of obtaining developmentally competent oocytes from an Indian breed of cattle for obtaining cattle oocytes in India where cow slaughter is not allowed for religious reasons.  相似文献

Endoscopically and ultrasonographically guided ovum pick up were studied in 15 heifers once per week. Althogether 60 sessions were carried out. The number of aspirated follicles per animal (13.0 vs 10.3) did not differ significantly between both methods. Similar recovery rates (39 % vs 44 %) were achieved after repeated sessions. As a consequence the number of recovered oocytes per animal (5.2 vs 4.7) were not significantly different. Inter-animal- and intra-animal-variations were more important for the results than the applied methods. In contrast to these findings the quality of recovered cumulus-oocyte-complexes (COC) was significantly influenced by the methods. The COC were divided into 4 categories a) oocytes with compact cumulus, b) oocytes with rest of compacted cumulus, c) oocytes with expanded cumulus and d) oocytes without cumulus. There was a higher denudation rate of COC when using the endoscopic aspiration (62.0 % vs 6.6 %) because of turbulent current in this aspiration system. Advantages and disadvantages of both methods are described and discussed. Generally, the ultra sonographic method is the less traumatic procedure for the vagina, fornix and for abdominal organs. The other method is less traumatic for the ovaries.  相似文献

Fetal sex can be determined by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using cells from fetal fluid collected by transvaginal ultrasound-guided amniocentesis. A total of 35 aspirates from 30 cows, 15 Holsteins and 15 Japanese Blacks at 59 to 250 d of pregnancy were used. Five cows were aspirated twice at a 10-d interval. A 5.0 MHz convex array transducer connected to a scanner was inserted into the vagina under caudal epidural anesthesia. The transducer was equipped with a 65-cm long, 21-g needle within the probe carrier. A bovine male-specific primer and a bovine gender-neutral primer were used. Fetal fluid was obtained from all except 2 cows in early pregnancy. Five animals aborted within 1 wk following aspiration. A total of 33 samples, 29 of amniotic fluid and 4 of allantoic fluid, was subjected to PCR analysis. Fetal gender was verified in 31 33 samples (18 females and 13 males). Gender was also determined by gross examination of external genitalia of offspring after calving or abortion. Fetal gender was correctly identified by PCR analysis of aspirated fetal fluid in 16 16 females and in 13 15 males. Transvaginal ultrasound-guided amniocentesis followed by PCR analysis of aspirated cell DNA can be used accurately to determine fetal sex in cows at 70 to 100 d of gestation. The procedure requires considerable skill and is not without some risk to fetal viability.  相似文献

Amikacin sulfate,e a semi-synthetic aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from kanamycin, is a broad spectrum antibiotic particularly effective against gram-negative organisms. With this spectrum of activity, amikacin may be an effective treatment for equine metritis.The purpose of this study was to determine the level of amikacin in the endometrium after intrauterine infusion. For three consecutive days, four mares were infused with 2.0 gms once a day and four others were infused with 3.0 gms once a day.Biopsy results indicate that amikacin is readily absorbed into the equine endometrium. The 3.0 gm dose appears to have no therapeutic advantage over the 2.0 gm dose. Amikacin could not be detected in the serum after intrauterine infusion.  相似文献

In human IVF, the concept of 'low responders' is well known and generally defined as women with poor-response to gonadotrophin stimulation in a previous induction cycle. The objective of this retrospective study is to describe and characterise the concepts of 'low-, medium-, and high-response' and 'low, medium, and high responders' in bovine-assisted reproduction by analysing the OPU-IVF results obtained following 665 gonadotrophin-stimulated sessions conducted in 112 animals, nearly all of which were previously unsuccessful in traditional multiple ovulation and embryo transfer (MOET) programs. They were submitted to OPU and IVP between 1999 and 2003. In reference to these 665 OPU sessions, categories of response were defined based on the overall mean+/-S.D. follicles aspirated and COC obtained i.e., for follicles 14.7+/-9.8 and for COCs 11.7+/-8.1. So arbitrary cut-off values to define the categories of sessions were for follicles 5 and 25, and for COC 4 and 20. The three categories for follicles punctured in one session were therefore follicle low-response (FLR)or=25 follicles and for COCs recovered in one session COC low-response (CLR)or=20 COC. In addition, four categories of animals were also defined: (1) a low responder animal (LRA) had at least one OPU session in which FLR and CLR were observed (genuine low-response, see Section ); these animals did not have any high-response sessions, (2) a medium responder animal (MeRA) had only medium-responses, (3) a high responder animal (HRA) had at least one OPU session in which FHR and CHR were observed; these animals did not have any low-response sessions, and (4) mixed responder animals (MiRA) had both low and high-responses. Finally, we distinguished biological (animals) and technical (recovery rate and ultrasound resolution) causes of response differences. In 'low, high, medium and mixed reponders,' different results were obtained (p<0.05): mean follicle numbers (8.8+/-4.8a, 22.4+/-10.5c, 13.2+/-5.2b,15.1+/-10.2d), COC numbers (6.3+/-3.9a, 18.5+/-8.2c, 10.4+/-4b, 12.0+/-8.3d), embryo numbers (1.8+/-2.1a, 5.6+/-4.9c, 2.5+/-2.7b, 3.5+/-3.8d) and also for recovery rate (72%a, 83%b,79%, 79%) and percentage embryo development (29%, 30%a, 24%b, 29%). In conclusion, the results of this study demonstrate that variability in OPU results has technical (ultrasound resolution and recovery rate) as well as biological (animal) aspects. Selection of animals with extreme (high or low) follicle and COC production results allows us to distinguish three populations: 'low, medium, and high responders' to FSH stimulation.  相似文献

A comparison was made between a linear array and a mechanical multiple angle sector (MAP) transducer for ultrasound-guided transvaginal oocyte retrieval (ovum pick-up, OPU) in the cow. The ovaries of five dairy cows were punctured, in a twice-weekly OPU program lasting for 4 weeks, using two different 5.0-MHz transducers equipped with an identical disposable needle-guidance system. Both ovaries were visualized using each transducer before puncture and the number of follicles with a diameter of less than 5 mm (small) and with a diameter equal to or greater than 5 mm (large) was recorded. Subsequently, one ovary of the pair was punctured guided by the MAP, while the other was punctured using the linear array transducer. During the next puncture session on a given animal, the two systems were switched and used on the alternate ovary in a crossover design. Parameters assessed for each system were: the total number of follicles visualized in each diameter class, and the total number of retrieved oocytes per cow. A significant difference was found for the ability to visualize smaller follicles in favor of the MAP transducer, with an average visualization of 71.6 +/- 30.3 small follicles per cow during the 4-week trial period, compared to 59.8 +/- 25.7 for the linear array transducer (t-test for paired samples, P = 0.007). No differences were found in the visualization of large follicles. A numerically greater number of oocytes were retrieved using the MAP transducer, compared to the linear array, (averages of 14.2 +/- 7.2 versus 7.4 +/- 6.1, respectively), although these differences were not statistically significant. In conclusion, both systems can be effectively used for oocyte retrieval in the cow, however, the MAP transducer demonstrated superior visualization of small follicles.  相似文献

The site of a hypothesized embryo reduction mechanism was studied. The number of normal-sized embryos and undersized embryos (>2 standard deviations below the mean embryo diameter in control mares) was determined at day 7 and 11 post-ovulation in single-ovulating control mares and in multiple-ovulating pituitary extract-treated mares in which all ovulations occurred on a single day. In two additional groups (control and treated), the embryonal enlargement was monitored by rectal palpation until day 49. An average of 0.7 normal-sized embryos per control mare at day 7 and at day 11 and 0.6 vesicles per control mare at day 49 was found. More normal-sized embryos (P<0.05) were recovered per extract-treated mare at day 7 (2.9 embryos/mare) than at day 11 (0.7), and fewer undersized embryos per extract-treated mare (P<0.05) were recovered at day 7 (0.1) than at day 11 (1.1). The total number of embryos (normal-sized plus undersized) per treated mare was greater (P<0.05) at day 7 and at day 11 than the number of palpated vesicles per treated mare at day 49. The number of mares with more than one normal-sized embryo in the day 7 treated group (10/14) was greater (P<0.05) than in the day 11 treated group (1/14) and was greater than the number of mares with more than one palpated vesicle in the day 49 treated group (2/14). Intrauterine reduction was therefore manifested between days 7 and 11 in multiple-ovulating mares, as demonstrated by the number of multiple normal-sized blastocysts recovered at day 7 and by the reduced number of normal-sized and the increased number of undersized blastocysts recovered at day 11.  相似文献

The present study was undertaken to explore the potential of the Murrah breed of buffaloes as donors of oocytes and to find out the recovery rate and oocyte quality in cyclic Murrah buffaloes subjected to oocyte recovery once a week. Murrah buffaloes (n = 5) were synchronized for estrus by a single prostaglandin injection schedule. The animals were subjected to transvaginal oocyte retrieval (TVOR) once weekly for 6 weeks, starting from Day 7 of the oestrous cycle (Day 0 = day of oestrus). TVOR was performed using an ultrasound machine with a 5 MHz transvaginal transducer, single lumen 19-gauge, 60 cm long needle and a constant vacuum pressure of 50 mmHg. The number and size of follicles in each ovary was determined before puncture. The follicles were characterized on the basis of their diameter as small (3-5 mm), medium (6-9 mm) and large (> or = 10 mm). The oocytes recovered were classified as grade A, cumulus-oocytes complexes (COCs) with > or = 5 layers of cumulus cells; grade B, those with two to four layers; grade C, partially denuded oocytes; and grade D, completely denuded oocytes. The mean (+/- S.E.M) number of small, medium and large follicles, and the number of total follicles observed per animal per session, which was 2.2 +/- 0.3, 0.6 +/- 0.2, 0.9 +/- 0.1 and 3.7 +/- 0.3, respectively, did not differ between animals or between puncture sessions. Small follicles constituted a major proportion (59%) of the total observed follicles. A mean (+/- S.E.M) number of 3.0 +/- 0.3 follicles were punctured and 2.0 +/- 0.3 oocytes recovered per animal per session, with a recovery rate of 68%. Out of the total 61 oocytes recovered, 36 (59%) were of grades A + B whereas 25 (41%) were of grades C + D. In conclusion, this study describes the potential of cyclic Murrah buffaloes as donors of oocytes collected by repeated TVOR once a week, without any adverse effects on follicular growth and oocyte recovery. It also describes an efficient system for carrying out TVOR in buffaloes.  相似文献
