As an ecologically and economically important endemic bamboo species, moso (Phyllostachys edulis) has been widely distributed in Southern China. In the paper, 20 fluorescently labeled microsatellite markers were used to evaluate the genetic structure of Ph. edulis including 34 representative populations (803 individuals) covering the geographic range in China. Moderate genetic diversity (H?= 0.376) and differentiation (Gst?= 0.162) were detected at the species level, with the majority of genetic diversity occurring within populations (84.55%). Bayesian model-based structure analysis and sNMF/ANLS-AS method revealed the presence of two and three clusters. When K?=?2, majority of populations (except SX) were clustered together (C1). It implied that SX, known as an introduced and isolated founder population, significantly differed from other populations for distinct environmental selection and allele mutation with the proof of scarce outcrossing and relatively high frequency of private allele. While K?=?3, two subgroups (C1a of 18 populations and C1b of 14 populations) were detected within C1. The C1b displayed as a belt-shape region with an east-west direction. It coincided with the extremely high artificial selection in C1b (lower genetic diversity than that of C1a) due to the intensive plantation in the last four decades. Our results implied that the population protection and germplasm collection of moso bamboo should be not only from representative populations in Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian, and other places with intensive cultivation in the east of China, but from populations with high level of gene and genotypic diversity in the west (e.g., HN5, GD1, GZ2, YN1, and SX).  相似文献

Sorting objects and events into categories and concepts is an important cognitive prerequisite that spares an individual the learning of every object or situation encountered in its daily life. Accordingly, specific items are classified in general groups that allow fast responses to novel situations. The present study assessed whether bamboo sharks Chiloscyllium griseum and Malawi cichlids Pseudotropheus zebra can distinguish sets of stimuli (each stimulus consisting of two abstract, geometric objects) that meet two conceptual preconditions, i.e., (1) “sameness” versus “difference” and (2) a certain spatial arrangement of both objects. In two alternative forced choice experiments, individuals were first trained to choose two different, vertically arranged objects from two different but horizontally arranged ones. Pair discriminations were followed by extensive transfer test experiments. Transfer tests using stimuli consisting of (a) black and gray circles and (b) squares with novel geometric patterns provided conflicting information with respect to the learnt rule “choose two different, vertically arranged objects”, thereby investigating (1) the individuals’ ability to transfer previously gained knowledge to novel stimuli and (2) the abstract relational concept(s) or rule(s) applied to categorize these novel objects. Present results suggest that the level of processing and usage of both abstract concepts differed considerably between bamboo sharks and Malawi cichlids. Bamboo sharks seemed to combine both concepts—although not with equal but hierarchical prominence—pointing to advanced cognitive capabilities. Conversely, Malawi cichlids had difficulties in discriminating between symbols and failed to apply the acquired training knowledge on new sets of geometric and, in particular, gray-level transfer stimuli.  相似文献

Variations in species richness and diversity at a local scale are affected by a number of complex and interacting variables, including both natural environmental factors and human-made changes to the local environment. Here we identified the most important determinants of woody species richness and diversity at different growth stages (i.e. adult, sapling and seedling) in a bamboo–deciduous forest in northeast Thailand. A total of 20 environmental and human disturbance variables were used to determine the variation in species richness and diversity. In total, we identified 125 adult, 111 sapling (within fifty 20 × 20-m plots) and 89 seedling species (within one hundred and twenty 1 × 1-m subplots). Overall results from stepwise multiple regression analyses showed that environmental variables were by far the most important in explaining the variation in species richness and diversity. Forest structure (i.e. number of bamboo clumps and canopy cover) was important in determining the adult species richness and diversity (R 2 = 0.48, 0.30, respectively), while topography (i.e. elevation) and human disturbance (i.e. number of tree stumps) were important in determining the sapling species richness and diversity (R 2 = 0.55, 0.39, respectively). Seedling species richness and diversity were negatively related to soil phosphorus. Based on our results, we suggest that the presence of bamboos should be incorporated in management strategies for maintaining woody species richness and diversity in these forest ecosystems. Specifically, if bamboos cover the forest floor at high densities, it may be necessary to actively control these species for successful tree establishment.  相似文献

This study attempts to quantify the reinforcement effect of the Makino bamboo (Phyllostachys makinoi Hayata) root system on the stability of slopeland through numerical analyses and in situ tests. Based on the field surveys of Makino bamboo root morphology, a three-dimensional (3-D) numerical model of the soil–root system consisting of the reverse T-shape tap root and hair roots was developed and successfully applied to the finite element simulations of in situ pull-out tests. In the simulations, the soil mass was simulated by a soil element with a perfect elastic–plastic (or Mohr–Coulomb) material model whereas the root system was simulated by a ground anchor element with a linear elastic material model. In addition, a mechanical conversion model with simple mathematical form, which enables a direct transformation of the ultimate pull-out resistance into the shear strength increment of soil–root system was proposed. The conversion model offered a convenient way to quantify the reinforcement effect of the Makino bamboo root system required for the 3-D slope stability analyses. The numerical results indicated that the shear strength increment of the Makino bamboo soil–root system ranged from 18.4 to 26.3 kPa and its effect on the slope stability was insignificant when compared with those adverse influence factors such as the steep slope angle (=50–70°), shallow root depth (=0.8–1.0 m) and large growth height (>10 m) of the Makino bamboo forest slopeland. It can be also speculated that the tension cracks widespread over the slope surface due to the wind loading acting on the bamboo stems and the sequential rainwater infiltration is the dominating factor in the collapse failure of slopeland. For a Makino bamboo forest slopeland with medium slope (25° < slope angle β < 40°), the reinforcement effect of the Makino bamboo root system can mobilize its maximum stabilization capacity when compared with those of slopeland with mild (β < 25°) and steep slopes (β > 40°). Conclusively, the contribution of the Makino bamboo root system to the stability of slopeland is not as significant as expected.  相似文献

Floral syndromes and pollination of three species of Phyllostachys bamboos were studied in Central China in 1999 and 2000. All were protogynous. Stigmas were receptive and had pollen deposited on them 2 days before anther dehiscence. The period of anthesis in the three bamboos was 3 days. Individual pollen grains of the three species were similar in size (30–40 μm in diameter) and had features typical of wind-pollinated plants. The ratios of pollen to ovules (p/o ratio) in P . nidularia , P . heteroclada and P . nuda were 6500, 12 700 and 33 000, respectively. Mean pollen loads on each flower (one ovule) of these three species were 7.3, 8.8 and 9.4 grains, respectively. Pollen transfer in P . heteroclada and P . nuda depended on wind, and no flower visitors were seen in the field. However, in P . nidularia , Apis cerana Fab. was a frequent pollen collector observed from 1200 to 1330 h. The visits undertaken by thousands of honeybees resulted in a large number of pollen grains being released from the anthers in a short time (10–15 min) in one day, which accelerated and synchronized the release of pollen from the anthers that seemed to enhance the chance of pollination. Given that honeybees played an indirect role in pollen transfer this could partly explain the low p/o ratio in P . nidularia . Reviewing the literature, we found insect visits to flowers of bamboos were not infrequent phenomena. We suggest pollination efficiency should be considered as one selective factor in attempts to understand mast flowering in bamboo. © 2002 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2002, 138 , 1–7.  相似文献

CRN1/PPH/NYC3 is one of the key genes responsible for chlorophyll degradation during senescence in both Arabidopsis and rice. In this study, BeCRN1 and its promoter, BeCRN1p, were isolated from, Bambusa emeiensis ‘Viridiflavus’, a bamboo variety, for the first time. BeCRN1 consists of 1,646 bp, with an open reading frame of 1,473 bp, encoding a predicted polypeptide of 490 amino acids. Besides, BeCRN1 contained 5 exons and 4 introns, and harbored a distinctive microsatellite in the fourth intron. Differences in BeCRN1p are observed primarily in the AtCRN1 promoter, while sharing similar cis element composition with the rice CRN1 promoter. BeCRN1 is localized within the chloroplast, and it is strongly induced by senescence signals. Although constitutive overexpression of BeCRN1 in crn1 has reversed the stay-green phenotype of crn1 to the wild type phenotype, its promoter has failed to do so with AtCRN1 following dark treatment. The efficiency of BeCRN1p is only about one-third of that of the AtCRN1 promoter.  相似文献

Fargesia, the largest genus within the temperate bamboo tribe Arundinarieae, has more than 90 species mainly distributed in the mountains of Southwest China. The Fargesia bamboos are important components of the subalpine forest ecosystems that provide food and habitat for many endangered animals, including the giant panda.However,species-level identification of Fargesia is difficult. Moreover, the rapid radiation and slow molecular evolutionary rate of Fargesia pose a significant challenge to using DN...  相似文献

Since the introduction of the new genus Sinocalamus in 1940 which is now dissociated into Bambusa and Dendrocalamus, molecular markers have long been unable to discern members of the BambusaDendrocalamus complex. Rapid concerted evolution governed by high level of transition/transversion at the noncoding DNA regions has limited the ability of internal transcribed spacer (rDNA) and trnL-F intergenic spacer to resolve Bambusa and Dendrocalamus in phylogenetic analysis. Based on scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis of Bambusa vulgaris and Dendrocalamus manipureanus pollen development, we provided the evidence that there exists genus specificity in the development and structure of woody bamboo pollen which can serve as a benchmark for allocated new species into the genus Bambusa and Dendrocalamus substantiating molecular data.  相似文献

Relatively little is known about pollination and other aspects of the reproductive biology of bamboos, but wind pollination is assumed to be the rule, at least in woody bamboos. Documenting the reproductive biology of woody bamboos is a complex task due to the long periods of time between flowering cycles, which range from 3 to 120 years. Insects visiting Guadua paniculata and G. inermis flowers were collected in the field. Scanning electron micrographs were taken of the visiting insects. Four species of bees, three from tribe Meliponini (Geotrigona acapulconis, Plebeia frontalis and Trigona fulviventris) and one from tribe Apini (Apis mellifera), along with a syrphid fly (Toxomerus teligera) were found visiting bamboo flowers. Some species of Hemiptera were also found feeding on the flowers, such as Neortholomus jamaicensis (Lygaeidae), or preying on the flower visitors (Apiomerus pictipes (Reduviidae)). Insects visiting bamboo inflorescences may facilitate the release of pollen grains into the air, promoting outcrossing and genetic flow among the individuals of the flowering bamboo populations.  相似文献

C. kiangsu adults were observed visiting human urine, especially on hot summer days. The main chemicals in fresh human urine include inorganic salts and CO(NH2)2. When human urine was incubated, NH4HCO3 became the richest nitrogenous compound. The phagostimulants, repellents and attractants in urine were identified here. On the filter papers treated with fresh or incubated urine samples, the 5th instar nymphs and the adults started and continued gnawing around the edges, in contrast to the 3rd and the 4th instar nymphs. The consumed areas were dramatically greater on the filters treated with the urine samples incubated for 3-6 days. The feedings of both male and female adults were also stimulated by several urine-borne components such as NaCl, NaH2PO4, Na2SO4, KCl, NH4Cl and NH4HCO3 but not by CO(NH2)2. Among them NaCl was the most powerful phagostimulant. The repelling, or attractive/arresting effects of CO(NH2)2 and NH4HCO3 were also evaluated by a two-choice test. When exposed to water- and CO(NH2)2 solution-immersed filters simultaneously, the adults prefer to stay on water-immersed filter. In contrast, when provided water- and NH4HCO3 solution-treated filters, the adults prefer to stay on NH4HCO3 solution-treated filter. This demonstrated that CO(NH2)2 acted as a repellent and NH4HCO3 as an attractant/arrestant. In the bamboo forest, similar feeding behavior was also elicited by NaCl, NH4HCO3 but not by CO(NH2)2. Comparing to NaCl solution, a mixed solution of NaCl and CO(NH2)2 (1:1) significantly decreased the consumed area of the treated filters whereas a mixed solution of NaCl and NH4HCO3 (1:1) dramatically increased the consumed area. These results demonstrated that the phagostimulatory effect by NaCl was reduced by CO(NH2)2 in fresh urine and was enhanced by NH4HCO3 in incubated urine.  相似文献

We studied interspecific competition between the larvae of the two mosquitoesAedes albopictus andTripteroides bambusa, which are predominantly found in water-filled bamboo stumps in northern Kyushu, south-western Japan, using microcosms with dead bamboo leaves in the laboratory. We compared short-term competition between single cohorts of the two species and long-term competition involving four cohorts of each species, which were introduced at 6-day intervals. In the single cohort experiment,A. albopictus grew faster thanT. bambusa. However, in the multiple cohort experiment, although the first cohort ofA. albopictus grew faster and began to pupate earlier than that ofT. bambusa, molting rates of later cohorts ofA. albopictus, that were introduced on the 12th and the 18th day, were lower than those ofT. bambusa. The survival rate ofA. albopictus became lower than that ofT. bambusa after the 18th day. The cumulative number of the pupatedT. bambusa individuals exceeded that ofA. albopictus on the 96th day. The final pupation success was higher inT. bambusa than inA. albopictus, especially when additional leaves were supplied on the 48th and the 96th days. The reversed outcomes between short- and long-term interspecific competition and the variation in the lifespans of small aquatic sites may contribute to the coexistence of the two mosquito species in bamboo groves.  相似文献

The present study was carried out in the bamboo (Chusquea tessellata) páramo of Parque Natural Nacional de Chingaza, Eastern Cordillera, Colombia from December 1987 to April 1988. Above-ground biomass structure of bamboo páramo was quantified in 16 plots. These data are compared with previous results on above-ground biomass structure of bunch-grass (Calamagrostis spp.) páramos. The total (non-living and living) above-ground biomass of a Chusquea tessellata bamboo páramo was low (2,625 g DW · m–2) compared to bunch-grass páramo. Nevertheless, higher values of standing living biomass and litter are found in the bamboo páramo due to the leaf shed of the bamboo. The thick litter layer may inhibit germination and growth of nearby plants.Maximum biomass is found near the ground surface. Cumulative LAI (In transformed) and height in the bamboo vegetation are related parabolically for Chusquea tessellata and linearly for bunch-grass due to differences in leaf distribution. The mean bifacial LAI of living Chusquea tessellata leaves is 2.2 m2 · m–2, whereas it is 2.5 m2 · m-2 for all Poaceae.  相似文献

We measured the vertical distribution and seasonal patterns of fine-root production and mortality using minirhizotrons in a cool–temperate forest in northern Japan mainly dominated by Mongolian oak (Quercus crispula) and covered with a dense understory of dwarf bamboo (Sasa senanensis). We also investigated the vertical distribution of the fine-root biomass using soil coring. We also measured environmental factors such as air and soil temperature, soil moisture and leaf area indices (LAI) of trees and the understory Sasa canopy for comparison with the fine-root dynamics. Fine-root biomass to a depth of 60 cm in September 2003 totaled 774 g m−2, of which 71% was accounted for by Sasa and 60% was concentrated in the surface soil layer (0–15 cm), indicating that understory Sasa was an important component of the fine-root biomass in this ecosystem. Fine-root production increased in late summer (August) when soil temperatures were high, suggesting that temperature partially controls the seasonality of fine-root production. In addition, monthly fine-root production was significantly related to Sasa LAI (P<0.001), suggesting that fine-root production was also affected by the specific phenology of Sasa. Fine-root mortality was relatively constant throughout the year. Fine-root production, mortality, and turnover rates were highest in the surface soil (0–15 cm) and decreased with increasing soil depth. Turnover rates of production and mortality in the surface soil were 1.7 year−1 and 1.1 year−1, respectively.  相似文献

The widely used partial synthesis of phospholipids via deacylation of naturally occurring phospholipids, followed by reacylation with fatty acid anhydrides, is accompanied by phosphoryl migration. The resulting mixture of α- and β-phospholipids was separated by short-column chromatography. Milder acylation procedures in which no phosphoryl migration occurs, were developed. 1,2-Dilinoleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine was prepared in 50% yield by acylation of sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (GPC) with N-linoleoylimidazole. Detailed NMR and infrared spectra of α- and β-phosphatidylcholines (PCs) and -ethanolamines (PEs) are reported and the differences between isomers discussed.  相似文献

Immobile plants and immobile modular animals outlive unitary animals. This paper discusses competing but not necessarily mutually exclusive theories to explain this extreme longevity, especially from the perspective of phenotypic plasticity. Stem cell immortality, vascular autonomy, and epicormic branching are some important features of the phenotypic plasticity of plants that contribute to their longevity. Monocarpy versus polycarpy can also influence the kind of senescent processes experienced by plants. How density-dependent phenomena affecting the establishment of juveniles in these immobile organisms can influence the evolution of senescence, and consequently longevity, is reviewed and discussed. Whether climate change scenarios will favour long-lived or short-lived organisms, with their attendant levels of plasticity, is also presented.  相似文献
