Effects of sublethal azadirachtin exposure to the biological performance of Tetranychus urticae Koch was studied under laboratory conditions. Bioassay was used to asses the effect of different concentrations of azadirachtin on longevity, fecundity, fertility, and offspring development. Azadirachtin (64 and 128 ppm) affected fecundity and mortality but had no effect on fertility and offspring development. A subsequent life-table study with 80 ppm of azadirachtin found that the compound caused a reduction of 50% in survival to adult stage. The peak of reproduction was reached at 5 days causing a decrease in the mean fecundity to almost eight times than of untreated females. The net reproductive rate (R 0), the intrinsic rate of increase (r m), and the finite rate of increase () of treated females were lower. Treatment showed a negative value of r m, resulting in a declining population. These results suggest that azadirachtin could be incorporated in Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programmes of T. urticae. This revised version was published online in May 2005 with a corrected cover date.  相似文献

In this study the reproductive capacity of a laboratory-selected spirodiclofen resistant strain was investigated after treatment with spirodiclofen. Firstly, females were exposed to different concentrations of spirodiclofen (200 and 1,000 mg/l) during 6, 12 or 24 h. In contrast to the susceptible parental strain, the fecundity and fertility of resistant mites was not affected by treatment with these concentrations after any time of exposure tested. Secondly, pre-treatment of the resistant females with the synergists PBO or DEF could increase the inhibitory effect of spirodiclofen on reproduction, demonstrating the possible involvement of monooxygenases and esterases in metabolic detoxification of the acaricide. Because spirodiclofen interferes with lipid biosynthesis, total lipid content was measured in female adults. There were no significant differences between treated and non-treated female adults, both in the susceptible and resistant strain. However, the total lipid content in the resistant females was significantly higher than in susceptible females. Our data shows that the detection of spirodiclofen resistance should not be limited to mortality bioassays with eggs or larvae, but should be combined with inhibitory studies on female fertility and fecundity.  相似文献

Tetranychus evansi Baker and Pritchard and Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae) are important pests of Solanaceae in many countries. Several studies have demonstrated that T. urticae is an acceptable prey to many predatory mites, although the suitability of this prey depends on the host plant. T. evansi, has been shown to be an unfavorable prey to most predatory mites that have been tested against it. The predator Phytoseiulus fragariae Denmark and Schicha (Acari: Phytoseiidae) has been found in association with the two species in Brazil. The objective of this work was to compare biological parameters of P. fragariae on T. evansi and on T. urticae as prey. The study was conducted under laboratory conditions at 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30°C. At all temperatures, survivorship was lower on T. evansi than on T. urticae. No predator reached adulthood at 10°C on the former species; even on the latter species, only about 36% of the predators reached adulthood at 10°C. For both prey, in general, duration of each life stage was shorter, total fecundity was lower and intrinsic rate of population increase (r m ) was higher with increasing temperatures. The slower rate of development of P. fragariae on T. evansi resulted in a slightly higher thermal requirement (103.9 degree-days) on that prey than on T. urticae (97.1 degree-days). The values of net reproduction rate (R 0), intrinsic rate of increase (r m ) and finite rate of increase (λ) were significantly higher on T. urticae, indicating faster population increase of the predator on this prey species. The highest value of r m of the predator was 0.154 and 0.337 female per female per day on T. evansi and on T. urticae, respectively. The results suggested that P. fragariae cannot be considered a good predator of T. evansi.  相似文献

Sublethal effects of the mitochondrial electron transport inhibitor (METI) tebufenpyrad on Tetranychus urticae Koch females surviving treatment as eggs or immatures (≥90% mortality) were investigated in life-table assay. The developmental time of females that had survived treatment as eggs (2 mg/l) or larvae (2.5 mg/l) was 1 day longer, while that of protonymphs (2.5 mg/l) or deutonymphs (4 mg/l) was 2 days longer, in addition to reduced longevity and fertility, compared to control. The treatment significantly reduced the intrinsic rate of increase in female survivors: corresponding values were 0.258, 0.278, 0.207 and 0.209, respectively (0.307 in untreated females). The offspring age distribution was significantly affected by the treatment. Sublethal effect of tebufenpyrad and its impact on T. urticae management are discussed.  相似文献

Laboratory bioassays were conducted to evaluate the effects of spiromesifen on gross fecundity, gross fertility, net fertility and population growth of two-spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae Koch) after treatments with four acaricide concentrations: 180 mg/l, i.e. maximum recommended concentration for use in glasshouses against spider mites, 18, 1.8, and 0.18 mg/l, i.e. concentration discriminative for eggs and immatures in preliminary studies which produced 100% mortality of these stages. Quiescent female deutonymphs were treated in the first assay, and young pre-ovipositing females in the second and third, in which exposure lasted 6 h and 20 h, respectively. In the first assay, the 180, 18, and 1.8 mg/l concentrations significantly reduced gross fecundity (61–85%), gross fertility (64–87%) and net fertility (85–94%) of the surviving females. In the second one, only the highest concentration achieved a significant statistical reduction in gross fecundity (52%), gross fertility (67%) and net fertility (84%). In the third assay, fecundity and fertility reduction under the two highest concentrations was 98–99% and 93–98%, whereas it was 50–74% under the 1.8 mg/l concentration, and statistically different from control values. In all three trials, treatments with 180, 18, and 1.8 mg/l concentrations significantly reduced the instantaneous rate of increase. In the third assay, treatments with the two highest concentrations caused population decline. Sublethal activity of the 0.18 mg/l concentration was not found in any assay to be statistically significant. Sublethal effects of spiromesifen and its impact on T. urticae management are discussed.  相似文献

Sublethal effects of Thymus vulgaris were investigated on life-table parameters of Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae) in the laboratory conditions at 25?±?1?°C, 70?±?10% RH and a 14:10?h (L:D) photoperiod. Bioassay was conducted to assess the effect of different concentrations of T. vulgaris essential oil on two-spotted spider mite. LC50 and LC20 of T. vulgaris on T. urticae were calculated as 18.86 and 6.24?μl/litre air for 24?h after treatment. In the sublethal effects, after 24?h exposure to LC50 concentration, mortality, fecundity and longevity of the females that survived from treatment were determined. Results showed that T. vulgaris caused significant reductions in fecundity and longevity of adults. Life-table assay indicated that the intrinsic rate of increase (r m), net reproductive rate (R 0), finite rate of increase (λ), mean generation time (T), significantly reduced in treated females compared to control. These results suggest that T. vulgaris could be incorporated in integrated pest management programmes of T. urticae.  相似文献

The effects of hexythiazox on life-history traits and demographic parameters of Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae) were evaluated using the age-stage two-sex life table (in fecundity-based and fertility-based variants), with emphasis on its transovarial toxicity. Hexythiazox was applied when T. urticae females were either in the preovipositional period or in the first day of oviposition. In the F0 generation bioassay, treatments with concentrations of 50, 12.5 and 3.125 mg/l significantly reduced the longevity of females and their fecundity. These effects were mostly the result of mortality of treated females (18–23%) over the 24-h exposure period. Even though the net reproductive rate (R0) decreased significantly, the intrinsic rate of increase (r), finite rate of increase (λ) and doubling time (D) were not significantly different from the control. The strongest transovarial toxic effect occurred within the first 4 days following treatment, when 52–89% of the eggs laid by treated females (96% in control) hatched. Fertility was significantly reduced by concentrations of 50, 12.5, 3.125, 0.781 and 0.195 mg/l. These concentrations caused significant reductions in R0 (34–54%), r (12–24%) and λ (3–5%), whereas D was extended for 0.4–0.7 days. In the F1 generation bioassay, 50, 12.5, 3.125, 0.781, 0.049 and 0.012 mg/l caused significant reductions in R0 (34–92%), r (10–68%) and λ (3–17%), whereas extending D for 0.3–5.6 days. These effects were mostly the consequence of transovarial toxicity. Application of the fecundity-based life table underestimated population-level effects of hexythiazox on T. urticae.

A life-table was constructed for a little known aphidiid waspLysiphlebia mirzai, a parasitoid of cereal aphid,Rhopalosiphum maidis. The female parasitoid survived 6.4 ± 1.17 (SD) days and oviposited intensively 4.0 ± 0.47 days. The total fecundity rate, Rt, was 169.2 ± 6.94 mummies/female and net reproductive rate, Ro, was 92.70 female offspring/female. The intrinsic total fecundity rate, rt, and intrinsic rate of natural increase, rm, the finite rate of total fecundity, λt, and finite rate of increase, λm, was 0.27048, 0.24155, 1.31059 and 1.27322 respectively. The mean generation time (18.75 days) and doubling time of the population (2.87 days) was slightly higher than other aphidiids studied so far. The proportion of female progenies decreased significantly on the successive oviposition days.   相似文献

Sublethal effects of the growth inhibitor, clofentezine, on life-table parameters of Tetranychus urticae Koch females treated at different developmental stages with a concentration causing ≥90% mortality were investigated. Females which survived treatment as ‘early’ (0–24 h old) eggs produced 12% more offspring than the untreated females during the first five days of oviposition. This resulted in a significant rise in the intrinsic rate of increase (r j ): 0.324, compared to 0.299 in the untreated females. This effect may be interpreted as hormoligosis. Clofentezine treatment at any other developmental stage of T. urticae significantly decreased both longevity and fertility of female survivors. Females which survived treatment either as ‘late’ (72–96 h old) eggs or larvae had 2.6 times lower net reproductive rate (R 0) than the untreated females, and the r j values were significantly lower: 0.242 and 0.215, respectively (0.285 in the untreated females). Females which survived treatment either as protonymphs or deutonymphs had 3.9 times and 6 times lower R 0, respectively. Corresponding r j values were 0.178 and 0.146, respectively (0.247 in the untreated females). The clofentezine treatment at all stages influenced the age distribution of survivors. The sublethal effects of clofentezine and their impact on T. urticae management are discussed. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

The effects of spirotetramat, a tetramic acid derivative, on gross fertility, net fertility, female longevity and the instantaneous rate of increase of two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae (Acari: Tetranychidae) were investigated after treatment of female teleiochrysalises (the first assay) and pre-ovipositional females (the second assay). Spirotetramat was applied to the leaf discs by Potter spray tower and the following series of concentrations was applied: 200, 60, 18, 5.4 and 1.62 mg/l. In both assays after 24 h of exposure, surviving females without symptoms of poisoning were used for further procedure. In the first assay, gross fertility of treated females was reduced by 2.4–64.7% and net fertility by 12.4–88.8%, compared to the control. Gross fertility of the females treated with 1.62 and 5.4 mg/l did not significantly differ from the control, whereas all concentrations, except the lowest, significantly reduced net fertility and female longevity. Treatments with 200, 60, and 18 mg/l significantly reduced the instantaneous rate of increase. In the second assay, gross fertility and net fertility were reduced by 43.7–93.3% and 73.8–98.5%, respectively. All concentrations, except the lowest, significantly reduced gross fertility, whereas net fertility and longevity in all treated females were significantly lower compared to the control. All concentrations, except the lowest, significantly reduced the instantaneous rate of increase, provided that concentrations of 200, 60 and 18 mg/l caused population decline. The effects of spirotetramat and its impact on T. urticae management are discussed.  相似文献

Lethal and sublethal effects of spirotetramat, spiromesifen and spirodiclofen were assessed on Tetranychus urticae Koch. Leaf disc bioassay was used in all experiments. In this study, toxicity of these compounds was tested on T. urticae eggs and adults. Ovicidal activity was observed in all of the compounds tested, but only spirodiclofen was considerably effective against adult mites. Up to 24?h-old adult females were placed on leaf discs treated with sublethal concentrations (LC10 or LC25). Twenty-four hours after exposure to treated discs, 20 females showing no visible symptoms of poisoning were transferred to untreated leaf discs. The leaf discs were changed daily for up to five days. The number of eggs laid during this period was recorded. The survival rate, total number of laid eggs per female and egg hatching rate were calculated. All above-mentioned parameters were slightly lower in treated females compared with controls.  相似文献

The effects of triflumuron on the mortality, fecundity, and fertility of the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae, were evaluated in the laboratory. No differences in toxicity for larvae, protonymphs and deutonymphs were observed, but immature stages were 3.8-times more susceptible than adults at the LC50. The compound exhibited a direct contact ovicidal activity influenced by eggs age. 48–72 hold eggs were significantly more sensitive than eggs of the other age classes. No hatch inhibition was observed in eggs laid by treated adult females using a sublethal dose at two physiological times (<12 and 48–72h old). However, fecundity decreased in younger treated females, but it increased in the older-ones. The toxicity for immatures and eggs, and the sublethal effects described suggest that triflumuron could be an interesting incorporation in integrated pest programs of T. urticae. The present study was conducted to evaluate sublethal effects of B-azolemiteacrylic on the two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae). Female adults of T. urticae were exposed to LC10 and LC30 of the acaricide, and the effects on treated females and their offspring were evaluated. The results showed that the fecundity of F0 female adults treated with LC10 and LC30 of B-azolemiteacrylic was reduced by 30.9 and 39.2%, respectively. Longevity and oviposition period of the females were significantly reduced as well. The developmental duration of egg and deutonymph stage of the F1 generation were not significantly different from that of the control. The protonymph stage after LC30 treatment lasted significantly longer, whereas the larva, deutonymph and female stage were significantly shorter than the control. The oviposition period of the F1 generation was significantly shortened, the fecundity of each female decreased significantly, and the ratio of female-to-male was reduced too. Moreover, the average generation period of T. urticae after LC10 and LC30 treatments was shorter than that of the control, and the net production rate (R0), intrinsic rate of increase (rm) and finite rate of increase (λ) were all reduced by 33.3, 7.5 and 1.9% (LC10 treatment) and by 51.3, 14.8 and 3.6% (LC30 treatment), respectively. The population doubling time was prolonged by 7.5 and 14.8% after LC10 and LC30 treatments, respectively, compared with the control. These results indicate that B-azolemiteacrylic may effectively inhibit the development rate of the F0 and F1 populations of T. urticae, which will help design integrated strategies for the comprehensive control of T. urticae and rational use of pesticides in the field.

Eotetranychus pruni was recorded in Belgian and Tunisian apple orchards for the first time. The aim of this study was to compare a Belgian (Vieusart) and a Tunisian strain (Grombalia), with respect to their life history and demographic traits. Furthermore, a Tunisian strain of Tetranychus urticae (Sousse) was also added to the study, in order to evaluate the potential status of the Tunisian strain of E.pruni. Experiments were carried out in the laboratory(24 °C) on apple leaf discs. Significant differences were noticed between the two species, with respect to development time (males),fecundity and fertility (egg hatching), but no differences could be detected between the two strains of E. pruni. Life tables were setup to describe the population statistics. The calculated intrinsic rates of natural increase (r m) appear to be rather lowper se and do not correspond to those of typical “rstrategic pests”. The Bootstrap procedure allows us to estimate the confidence interval for these r m values. By using this method, the two Tunisian strains (T. urticae and E. pruni) appear to be quite similar, and contrast with the Belgian strain (E. pruni). The potential pest status of the Tunisian strain of E. pruni is discussed. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Spinosad is a bioinsecticide with a high degree of selective toxicity towards insects of different orders, but its toxicity towards the two-spotted spider mite (TSSM), Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae) is under debate. In this study, we compared the acaricidal properties of spinosad with the commercial bioacaricide abamectin on the life stages of TSSM. Adulticide and ovicide bioassays were performed on a susceptible laboratory strain using direct spraying of leaf disks with five rates of spinosad (20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 mg/l), five rates of abamectin (0.125, 0.25, 0.5, 1 and 2.5 mg/l), sublethal concentrations or a combination of spinosad and abamectin. Both adulticidal and ovicidal effects of spinosad against T. urticae in the laboratory were apparent, based on morality rates of the adults, reduction of female fecundity and death of offspring. Abamectin was also found to significantly reduce female fecundity and killed offspring when applied directly on the eggs. Interestingly, sublethal concentrations of spinosad reduced female fecundity stronger than abamectin. When a mixture of spinosad and abamectin was applied at LC50, mortality was 74%, fecundity reduction was comparable to abamectin alone and egg hatching rate was lower than by either compound alone. In conclusion, spinosad was more harmful than abamectin for TSSM life stages and the combined application is recommended.  相似文献

Abstract

The two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch is one of the most common pests of agricultural crops. The use of sublethal doses can reduce the need of pesticides and prevent pests’ resistance, which is an important step in integrated pest management and safely controlling this pest. The sublethal effects (LC5, LC15 and LC35) of spirodiclofen on demographic parameters of T. urticae based on the age-stage, two-sex life table theory were investigated under laboratory conditions [25?±?2?°C, 60?±?5% RH and 16:8 (L:D) h]. The longevity, total life span, oviposition period and total fecundity reduced after exposure to LC15 and LC35. Oviposition period ranged from 5.64 to 10.92?days. The gross reproduction rate (GRR), net reproductive rate (R0) and the finite rate of increase (λ) of the mites treated with LC15 and LC35 were inferior to the results when treated with LC5, and control. The values of intrinsic rate of increase (r) was 0.2209?day?1 in the control and this was reduced to 0.1714?day?1 in LC35. Based on these results, considering the negative impact of spirodiclofen on the population growth of T. urticae, this acaricide can be helpful to achieve an efficient control for T. urticae in frame of integrated pest management.  相似文献

Studies on the reproduction, longevity and life table parameters of Iphiseius degenerans (Berlese) were carried out under laboratory conditions of 25 ± 1 °C, 75 ± 5% RH and 16L:8D h. As food sources for the predatory mite, Ricinus communis L. pollen, all stages of the spider mite Tetranychus urticae Koch, Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) larvae, and Ephestia kuehniella Zeller eggs were selected. All diets were accepted as food by the adult mites. Female longevity ranged from 29.5 to 42.4 days, the highest value was recorded on a diet of Ephestia eggs. The highest percentage of females escaping the experimental arena was observed on the diet consisting of thrips larvae. The highest oviposition rate (1.9 eggs/female.day) was recorded when the predator was fed on spider mites on an artificial substrate. For other diets, oviposition rates ranged from 1.0 to 1.3 eggs/female.day. The intrinsic rate of natural increase (r m) of I. degenerans varied between 0.015 and 0.142 females/female.day. The diet consisting of castor bean pollen resulted in the highest population growth whereas the diet on spider mites brushed off onto a bean leaf arena resulted in the slowest population growth. This can be explained by the inability of the predator to cope with the webbing of T. urticae, and the high escape rate of the progeny when reared on spider mites. The percentage of females in the offspring ranged from 40 to 73%.This revised version was published online in May 2005 with a corrected cover date.  相似文献

The effect of either untreated or treated adults of the spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae) by Beauveria bassiana (Bals.) Vuillemin (Ascomycota: Hypocreales) DEBI008 at 1×106 (conidia/ml) was investigated on developmental stages and life table parameters of Phytoseiulus persimilis Athias-Henriot (Acari: Phytoseiidae) under laboratory conditions. Four time intervals (0, 24, 48 and 72 h post-inoculation of spider mites) were considered for studying the predator characteristics as different treatments. Duration of each life stage, longevity, reproduction rate, intrinsic rate of natural increase (r m ), net reproductive rate (R 0), mean generation time (T) and finite rate of increase (λ) of the P. persimilis were calculated on both untreated and B. bassiana treated spider mite adults. Data analysis showed that longevity and fecundity of predatory mites fed on untreated and treated mites (time interval 0) were higher in comparison with other time intervals after inoculation. The entomopathogenic fungus adversely affected longevity and fecundity of the predatory mite. Fertility life table parameters of predatory mites fed on T. urticae treated by B. bassiana at different time intervals showed that T, R 0, λ and r m are strongly affected by the fungus presence and these parameters had significant differences among time treatments. The least r m value was observed in the time interval of 72 h post-inoculation. The fitness of T. urticae was affected by B. bassiana 24, 48 and 72 h post-inoculation of mite adults, and consequently it caused decreased longevity of P. persimilis and accordingly a decrease in the intrinsic rate of natural increase of the predator.  相似文献

The effectiveness of seven strains of entomopathogenic fungi against Ceratitis capitata adults was evaluated in the laboratory. Adults were susceptible to five of seven aqueous suspensions of conidia. Metarhizium anisopliae and strain CG-260 of Paecilomyces fumosoroseus were the most pathogenic fungi, with 10-day LD50 values of 5.1 and 6.1 × 103 conidia/fly, respectively, when applied topically. Sublethal effects on fecundity and fertility of the fungal-exposed females were also studied. The most effective fungus in reducing fecundity was P. fumosoroseus CECT 2705, with reductions on the order of 65% at 1 × 106 conidia/fly. M. anisopliae and Aspergillus ochraceus also showed significant reductions of fecundity (40–50% for most of the assayed concentrations). Fertility was moderately affected by the fungi. M. anisopliae at 1 × 106 conidia/fly was the most effective fungus, showing egg eclosion reduction of over 50% compared with the control. In addition, culture broth dichloromethane extracts from the entomopathogenic fungi were tested for insecticide activity against C. capitata, including effects on fecundity and fertility. The extract from M. anisopliae was the most toxic, resulting in about 90% mortality at a concentration of 25 mg/g of diet; under these conditions, fecundity and fertility of treated females were reduced by 94 and 53%, respectively, compared with untreated controls.  相似文献
