Bream Abramis brama , white bream Blicca bjoerkna and roach Rutilus rutilus all undertook spawning migrations from the River Rhine into oxbows. Adult white bream and roach returned to the river after spawning. This indicates an annual change of habitat allowing the use of optimal conditions in oxbows for spawning and growth of juvenile fish, and the use of feeding grounds rich in benthos in the main river by the adults. In contrast, adult bream were still present in large numbers in the oxbows over the summer. Juvenile bream (0+ and 1+) migrated to the main river. Bream aged 2+ to 4+ were not found in the oxbows, whereas they occurred frequently in the river. Thus bream show ontogenetic changes in their use of the main river and oxbows. The young fish spend their long juvenile phase in the river after leaving the oxbows. Reproduction in oxbows is ensured by mature fish migrating in for a short period from the river as well as by other adults (≥5+) that live permanently in the oxbows. The strong tendency of adult bream to develop permanent stocks in the oxbows gives this species a reproductive advantage, since many oxbows are accessible to Rhine fish only occasionally in the present hydrological situation.  相似文献

Synopsis The present study tests the precision of repeat homing of roach, Rutilus rutilus, to two tributaries of a small Norwegian Lake, Årungen. A sample of 19 959 spawners was tagged or marked in the spawning area. After spawning the roach intermingled with other spawning demes in the lake. The year after marking, 2515 (12.6%) roach were recaptured during spawning in the five tributaries, 340 (13.5) of these were strayers. This straying is considerably larger than found in comparable autumn spawning species, but approximately the same as reported for other spring spawning species. The recapture rate was lower for females than for males, probably due to increased female mortality induced by the tagging manipulation.  相似文献

Investigations into the biology of the roach population at Slapton Ley, Devon, U.K. were carried out between October 1982 and December 1984 and data collected from the lake since 1977 have been re-analysed to assist interpretation. The roach population has been characterized in recent years by extreme year class variation and a tendency for year classes to alternate in strength. The survival of the roach was very poor, and the spawning population therefore consisted largely of 2-and some 3-year-old fish. Consequently, the size of the spawning stock was small and dependent on the strengths of the year classes that it contained. Recruitment to many year classes was probably limited by the size of the spawning stock. The occurrence of a poor year class in the population would therefore set up an autonomous cycle of poor recruitment to alternate year classes in a manner similar to many tropical marine fisheries. Observation of other British roach populations showed that a short life-span may be associated with conditions that promote very rapid growth rates. The growth rate of individual roach at Slapton was found to be one of the fastest in Britain, and this was apparently due to the very high productivity of Slapton Ley together with the persistence of the roach population at very low densities.  相似文献

鱼类产卵场的研究与保护对维持鱼类生物多样性具有重要意义,研究结合遥感数据与水动力模型,旨在识别2000—2020年鄱阳湖草洲产卵型鱼类潜在产卵场,并分析其时空变化特征,探究现有保护区对产卵场的保护效率。结果表明,近20年来鄱阳湖鱼类潜在产卵场面积呈增加趋势,空间上呈现从湖岸向中心扩张趋势。2005年前后潜在产卵场平均面积分别为519.97和694.42 km2,产卵场面积与空间分布均发生显著变化。2005年前潜在产卵场主要分布于鄱阳湖西部的永修、新建,以及东部的鄱阳和南部的余干等地近岸区域。2005年之后产卵场向湖中心扩张,都昌水域出现大片连续的潜在产卵场。鄱阳湖鲤鲫产卵场省级自然保护区内平均包含了17.75%的潜在产卵场,鄱阳湖的蝶形湖平均分布有34.73%的潜在产卵场。潜在产卵场分布可以进一步指导鄱阳湖保护区的优化和鱼类产卵场调查,研究使用的方法也适用于其他区域草洲产卵型鱼类潜在产卵场的识别研究。  相似文献

Roach were marked by fin-clipping (N= 15888) or tagged with Carlin-tags (N= 1476) during their spawning migration in two tributaries to Lake Årungen, Norway, in 1980. A total of 1746 of these roach were recaptured during spawning in 1981. The recapture rate of fin-clipped roach was significantly higher than the recapture rate of Carlin-tagged roach, probably due to differential mortality rates.  相似文献

In the period April–July 1980 we studied the feeding migration and food of roach in a small tributary of the eutrophic Lake Årungen, south-eastern Norway. Tagging experiments revealed a tendency in roach to utilize a specific tributary both for feeding and for spawning. The mean size of roach ascending the tributary in late June and July was significantly larger than the mean size of roach spawning 1–2 months earlier, probably due to higher water discharge in July than in May and June. The experiment indicates two separately motivated migrations involving homing. The roach fed more profitably in the tributary than in the lake, both in terms of food availability and predator avoidance.  相似文献

The life-histories of red roach were assessed in the R. Moros and the R. Ucero, two contrasting tributaries of the R. Duero. Growth occurred from April to October and Ucero red roach were larger than those in the Moros from their second year onwards. Condition increased with gonad development and abruptly decreased after spawning in both populations. The condition of Ucero fish recovered during the summer, but that of the Moros fish remained low. The same year classes (1980 and 1982) dominated both populations. River Moros red roach spawned in a 4-week period between the end of April and early June, while the spawning season of Ucero red roach lasted until August. The length to fecundity relationship was similar for both populations, and fecundity and ovum size increased with fish length. The life-history traits of these red roach populations are discussed in relation to current life-history theories.  相似文献

To clarify the dynamics and regulation of oogenesis in single- and multiple-spawning cyprinid fish with group-synchronous oocyte development, a multidisciplinary approach to their reproduction was undertaken using three species from the River Meuse (Belgium): the roach Rutilus rutilus as a single spawner, and the bleak Alburnus alburnus and the white bream Blicca bjoerkna as multiple spawners. The gonadosomatic index (GSI) and histomorphometric changes (distribution of oocyte size, relative proportion of the various oocyte stages) in the ovary are compared. Different patterns of GSI and oocyte growth were observed both between the single- and multiple-spawner fish and between the two multiple spawners. Maximum GSIs were higher in roach (21%) than in bleak and white bream (17.7 and 14.5%, respectively), and compared to the rapid decline of GSI in the roach population, the GSI of multiple spawners decreased progressively during the spawning season. In roach, a short gonadal quiescent period and an early onset of vitellogenesis was recorded from late summer onwards whereas, in bleak and white bream, exogenous vitellogenesis was not systematically observed before winter. A protracted spawning season and/or a low water temperature in autumn are hypothesized to explain this long period of gonadal quiescence. In bleak, during the spawning season, the oocytes recruited arose from the stock of endogenous vitellogenesis and attained the final maturation stage very rapidly. This recruitment occurred during the whole spawning season. In white bream, the differentiation of vitellogenic oocytes from smaller oocytes was completed before the onset of the spawning season. During the spawning period, the proportion of vitellogenic oocytes decreased progressively whereas the percentage of oocytes in the final maturation stage remained approximately constant.  相似文献

Onset date, onset temperature and duration of spawning of roach Rutilus rutilus were related to latitude (40–66° N) and altitude (−1–825 m) based on data from the literature over the whole geographic distribution of roach. Onset date was positively and duration was negatively correlated with latitude, while no correlation was found between onset temperature and latitude. No significant correlations were found between any of the analysed variables of spawning and altitude, probably because most of the analysed populations were below 300 m altitude.  相似文献

In Lake Geneva, the surface water temperature has increased by 1° C over 20 years probably as a result of climate change. The effects of changes in temperature on the reproductive cycle of the roach Rutilus rutilus were assessed in a 19 year survey. Over time, spawning tended to begin earlier. The consequences of temperature changes were assessed on two different stages of the female reproductive cycle: the development of the ovaries from the beginning of autumn to ovulation, and the onset of the spawning period. The development of the ovaries was studied for 7 consecutive years from October to June. From 1 October to the onset of spawning, it was possible to assess the gonado-somatic index ( I G) of females in terms of time expressed as a sum of degree-days. The correlation between I G and the sum of degree-days was +0·97. The onset of the roach spawning period in Lake Geneva was triggered by a thermal threshold (median and range 190 ± 10 degree-days for the 15 previous days). From October to April, climate warming accelerated the development of gonads, then in May, a thermal threshold that triggered the onset of roach spawning occurred earlier.  相似文献

The Chinese sturgeon (Acipenser sinensis) is an anadromous fish inhabiting the Yangtze River. Migration of Chinese sturgeon from the estuary to upper Yangtze River was blocked by Gezhou Dam, completed in 1981, and a new, much smaller, spawning ground was established below the dam. However, Three Gorges Dam began operating in 2003, altering hydrological conditions in the new spawning grounds and the impact on Chinese sturgeon reproduction was severe. The annual survey of Chinese sturgeon shows that both spawning scale and breeding population decreased during this period. To illustrate the impact of Three Gorges Dam on the spawning grounds and reproduction of Chinese sturgeon, the habitat suitability of spawning grounds on spawning day was simulated using River2D. Results show that the area of suitable spawning grounds positively correlates with the scale of reproduction and both have decreased sharply since 2003.  相似文献

The prevalence of epidermal papillomatosis in roach is known to peak during the spawning period and to be higher in males than in females. The high occurrence of papillomatosis in polluted waters suggests that stress may contribute to the outbreak of the disease. However, little is known about breeding-induced stress in fish and its relationship with diseases. In this study, plasma cortisol concentration, hematocrit and the relative size of the spleen were determined in healthy and diseased male and female roach Rutilus rutilus during and shortly after spawning in a wild population. In addition, the sexual ornamentation (breeding tubercles on the lateral sides and on the frontal) of male roach during spawning was examined. Plasma cortisol concentration was higher during than after the spawning period, and higher in males than in females during spawning, indicating a spawning-induced stress and higher spawning stress among males. There was no correlation between cortisol concentration and the intensity of papillomatosis (number of scales under papilloma tumors) among the diseased fish. However, the significant interaction sex x disease status revealed by ANCOVA suggested that diseased males could be more prone to increased cortisol levels than diseased females or healthy males. Hematocrit values (ratio of the volume of red blood cells to total volume of blood) but not condition factor were lowered in papilloma-diseased fish after spawning. The relative size of the spleen was greater in males than in females. The number of frontal breeding tubercles correlated negatively with the intensity of papillomatosis. Experimental studies are needed to investigate the association of papillomatosis with stress and cortisol.  相似文献

An ecologically orientated flood protection project was implemented at the Austrian lowland Sulm River. Habitat modelling was conducted during a 3-year monitoring program to assess the effects of river bed embankment and the initiation of a new meander by constructing an initial side channel, and allowing self-developing side erosion. Hydrodynamic and physical habitat models were combined with statistical methods. This study focused on the necessity for including stability analysis when modelling spawning grounds. The critical erosion parameter of the cobbles at spawning grounds was analysed using numerical modelling combined with substrate maps of potential spawning grounds of nase (Chondrostoma nasus). Due to the specific characteristics of this reach of the Sulm River, instability of the riffles can hamper successful reproduction in nase. Spawning grounds of Chondrostoma nasus and their stability must be guaranteed at least for the duration of incubation. Out of 52 chub Leuciscus cephalus tagged with internal radio‐transmitters, 46 migrated to spawning grounds in the River Spree, Germany. All chub started their first spawning migration on 21–22 May in both years of study, 1995 and 1996. They arrived at three different spawning grounds within a day and left after 1 to 6 days to return to their original sites. On 17 and 18 June 1995 and 1996 chub started their second spawning migration with the same pattern as the first. About 60% of all migrating chub moved between 1 and 13 km upstream to the nearest spawning ground. Some exceptions were observed: a few chub did not use the nearest spawning ground, some chub used different spawning grounds at first and second spawning or moved downstream to a spawning ground. Spawning grounds were characterized by 0·4 m s−1 current velocity, shallow depth (0·1–0·8 m) and a stony bottom, where most eggs adhered.  相似文献

Climate warming and harvesting affect the dynamics of species across the globe through a multitude of mechanisms, including distribution changes. In fish, migrations to and distribution on spawning grounds are likely influenced by both climate warming and harvesting. The Northeast Arctic (NEA) cod (Gadus morhua) performs seasonal migrations from its feeding grounds in the Barents Sea to spawning grounds along the Norwegian coast. The distribution of cod between the spawning grounds has historically changed at decadal scales, mainly due to variable use of the northern and southern margins of the spawning area. Based on historical landing records, two major hypotheses have been put forward to explain these changes: climate and harvesting. Climate could affect the distribution through, for example, spatial habitat shifts. Harvesting could affect the distribution through impacting the demographic structure. If demographic structure is important, theory predicts increasing spawner size with migration distance. Here, we evaluate these hypotheses with modern data from a period (2000–2016) of increasing temperature and recovering stock structure. We first analyze economic data from the Norwegian fisheries to investigate geographical differences in size of spawning fish among spawning grounds, as well as interannual differences in mean latitude of spawning in relation to changes in temperature and demographic parameters. Second, we analyze genetically determined fish sampled at the spawning grounds to unambiguously separate between migratory NEA cod and potentially smaller sized coastal cod of local origin. Our results indicate smaller spawners farther away from the feeding grounds, hence not supporting the hypothesis that harvesting is a main driver for the contemporary spawning ground distribution. We find a positive correlation between annual mean spawning latitude and temperature. In conclusion, based on contemporary data, there is more support for climate compared to harvesting in shaping spawning ground distribution in this major fish stock in the North Atlantic Ocean.  相似文献

The detection and conservation of spawning units is of crucial importance in highly migratory species. The sutchi catfish Pangasianodon hypophthalmus (Pangasiidae; Teleostei) is a common large-sized tropical fish, which migrates annually to several upstream spawning sites on the Lower Mekong River and feeds on the huge floodplain of the Lower Mekong and Tonle Sap for the other half of the year. We hypothesised that because of the relative size of the feeding and spawning habitat, genetic variability would be high and homogeneous in foraging populations, but that spawning stocks would be distinct in space and time. To test these predictions, 567 individuals from 10 geographic locations separated by up to 1230 km along the Lower Mekong River were genotyped at seven microsatellite loci. The level of genetic diversity was much higher than other freshwater fish and reached values comparable to marine species (mean H(e)=0.757). All samples collected at the potential spawning sites deviated from Hardy-Weinberg expectations, suggesting admixture. Individual-based clustering methods revealed genetic heterogeneity and enabled the detection of three genetically distinct sympatric populations. There was no evidence of recent reduction in effective population size in any population. Contrasting with the vast extent of the feeding grounds, the shortage of spawning grounds seems to have moved sutchi catfish towards diachronous spawning. Hence the sustainable exploitation of this natural resource hinges on the conservation of the limited spawning grounds and open migration routes between the spawning and feeding grounds.  相似文献

The reproductive biology of poor-cod, Trisoptems minutus L., whiting, Merlangius merlangus L., and Norway pout, Trisoptems esmarkii Nilsson, was studied in western Scottish waters. Sex ratios, size and age at maturation and spawning seasons were determined and compared with other areas. The large juvenile stocks found in inshore areas at the western entrance of the Great Glen were derived from spawning grounds west of Mull, in poor-Cod. In whiting and Norway pout the location of spawning grounds was inferred from the occurrence of planktonic larvae and postlarvae and the hydrography of the area.  相似文献

自然产卵场是维持物种延续最关键的栖息地,青海湖裸鲤(Gymnocypris przewalskii)的自然繁殖栖息地状况和生境特征尚缺乏详细的定量研究。以青海湖入湖河流泉吉河为例,在平水期采用现场调查和无人机遥测的方法对青海湖裸鲤的自然产卵场分布及生境状况进行调查,确定其产卵场生境特征参数,建立基于无人机遥测识别产卵场的方法并进行复核验证。结果表明:泉吉河河道形态可分为弯曲型、分汊型和顺直型等三种典型河型,青海湖裸鲤自然产卵场主要分布在弯曲型和分汊型河道中,分汊型河道几乎100%都有产卵场分布,弯曲型河道有70%为产卵场;产卵场河道平均长度(135.13±61.13) m,平均宽度(30.01±17.51) m,平均曲折度1.09±0.07;平均面积(4586.6±4201.61) m2;产卵场常位于缓水浅滩处,平均水深(0.19±0.10) m (范围:0.03-0.44m),平均流速(0.24±0.20) m/s (范围:0.01-0.81m/s),河床质为含有沙粒的卵石(粒径:163-256mm)底质。河道形态、沙洲分布、水深特征等特征参数可作为无人机遥测识别产卵场的判断条件,并实现验证成功。研究结果可为开展整个流域的青海湖裸鲤自然产卵场现状评估及保护对策制定提供技术支撑。  相似文献

The study objectives were to identify the horizontal and vertical distributions of adult Chinese sturgeon (Acipenser sinensis) in relation to the Habitat Suitability Index (HSI) in order to assess the utility of the only remaining spawning grounds by adults and to understand the effects of river alterations on habitat use. Twenty‐five adults were surgically implanted with ultrasonic transmitters and located by mobile tracking and fixed monitoring stations during the 2006–2009 spawning seasons. Fish locations and depths along with water depth and bottom characteristics (topography, velocity, and embeddedness) were measured during tracking and used to determine HSI curves for non‐spawning and spawning adults. Most fish locations (91%) were on the spawning grounds (GZD to Miaozui reaches). Horizontal distribution differed before and after spawning, among years, and between the sexes. Adults used deeper depths during the day than at night (P < 0.001), while also preferring shallower depths on the day of spawning rather than the days before and after. Mature females used deeper water than other females (P < 0.001). Comparison of horizontal and vertical distributions before and after river alterations found fewer adults using the grounds impacted by a diversion dike which was built on the spawning grounds. Adults also used shallower depths after the Three Gorges Dam regulated river flow over the spawning grounds. The HSI model and the use of Weighed Usable Areas (WUA) for mature and immature adults indicated suitable habitat was available, but was reduced by the river alterations resulting in reduced spawning success and placing the population into a situation close to extirpation.  相似文献

We used 320 young-of-the-year (YOY) specimens of the highly migratory and overfished Atlantic bluefin tuna, Thunnus thynnus, Linnaeus 1758, to evaluate the hypothesis that Atlantic bluefin tuna comprises 2 stocks with spawning grounds in the Gulf of Mexico and in the Mediterranean Sea. Significant genetic differentiation at 8 nuclear microsatellite loci (F(ST) = 0.0059, P = 0.0005) and at the mitochondrial control region (Phi(ST) = 0.0129, P = 0.0139) was detected among YOY Atlantic bluefin tuna captured on spawning grounds in the Gulf of Mexico (n = 40) versus the western (n = 255) and eastern (n = 25) basins of the Mediterranean Sea. The genetic divergence among spawning populations, combined with the extensive trans-Atlantic movements reported for juvenile and adult Atlantic bluefin tuna, indicates a high degree of spawning site fidelity. Recognition of genetically distinct populations necessitates independent management of Atlantic bluefin tuna on spawning grounds and warrants evaluation of the level of mixing of populations on feeding grounds. The genetic pattern might not have been detected unless juvenile specimens or actively spawning adults had been sampled.  相似文献
