An experiment was conducted to determine if vitamin E (α-tocopherol acetate) and chromium (chromium picolinate, Cr Pic) supplementation attenuate the negative effects of cold stress on egg production, egg quality, serum metabolites, and antioxidant status in Japanese quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica). One hundred and fifty laying Japanese quails (50-day-old) were divided into five groups, 30 birds per group. The laying quails kept at 6°C for 12 h/d (08.00 p.m. to 08.00 a.m.) were fed either a basal diet (low temperature-basal diet, CS group) or the basal diet supplemented with either 400 μg of Cr/kg of diet (Cr group), 250 mg of α-tocopherol-acetate per kg of diet (Vit. E group) or 400 μg of Cr plus 250 mg of α-tocopherol-acetate per kg of diet (Vit. E + Cr group) while quails kept at 18°C were fed a basal diet (thermo-neutral-basal diet, TN group). Performance and egg quality were significantly reduced in CS group compared with TN group. Supplemental chromium and vitamin E significantly increased live weight change, egg production, and improved feed efficiency in cold-stressed laying hens compared with the group fed the basal diet at 6°C. Egg production and egg weight were also greater (P < 0.05) in each supplemental group compared with the CS group. However, a combination of vitamin E and chromium, rather than each separately, provided the greatest performance. Supplemental vitamin E and chromium also increased serum vitamin C and E but, decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) concentrations (P < 0.05); the combination of vitamin E and chromium resulted in the highest levels of serum vitamin C and E within the cold-stressed quails. Results of the present study indicate that combined antioxidant supplements increased performance, egg quality and serum antioxidant levels while lowering MDA in cold-stressed quails.  相似文献

The effects of glucan and liposomized glucan, alone or co-administered with vitamin C, and empty liposomes on hepatic fibrosis in mice infected with Mesocestoides corti (M. vogae) tetrathyridia were studied. Preparations were administered every third day from day 7 to day 31 post-infection (p.i.), nine doses in total. Activities of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and cholesterol levels were measured in sera collected on days 11, 15, 21, 28, 32, 42, 50 and 65 p.i. Liver fibrosis was studied on the same days by measuring hydroxyproline concentration, which is considered a marker for collagen content. Larvicidal effects of the glucan and liposome preparations were estimated on day 65 p.i. in the liver and peritoneal cavity. Glucan formulations significantly enhanced collagen content, most prominently after administration of liposomized glucan in combination with vitamin C. Activities of both enzymes and cholesterol levels were slightly modified after administration of glucan alone. Liposomized glucan with vitamin C significantly increased ALT and AST activity and cholesterol levels up to days 28-32 p.i., after which they plateaued or declined. The most pronounced decrease was after administration of liposomized glucan and vitamin C. The same pattern of biochemical parameters in serum was observed after administration of empty liposomes, however, collagen content was not modified significantly. Larval counts in the liver and the peritoneal cavity were significantly reduced after treatment with either glucan formulation, but were unaffected following treatment with empty liposomes. In summary, intense fibrosis in the liver of mice treated with liposomized glucan and vitamin C did not result in the most extensive parenchymal cell injury but, rather in the highest efficacy of treatment. Liposomal lipids were probably utilized in the reparation of the damaged parenchymal cells, while glucan stimulated phagocytic cells.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine the effects of vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) and vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol acetate) on serum concentrations of lipid peroxidation (MDA) and triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxine (T4), adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), and some metabolite and mineral in laying hens reared at high ambient temperatures ranging from 25 degrees C to 35 degrees C. One hundred twenty laying hens (18 wk old; Hy-Line) were divided into 4 groups, 30 hens per group. The laying hens were fed either a basal diet (control) or the basal diet supplemented with either 250 mg of L-ascorbic acid/kg of diet (vitamin C), 250 mg of alpha-tocopherol acetate/kg of diet (vitamin E), or 250 mg of L-ascorbic acid plus 250 mg alpha-tocopherol acetate/kg of diet (combination). Separately or as a combination vitamins C and E increased serum vitamin C and vitamin E concentrations (p < 0.001) but decreased serum MDA concentration (p < 0.05). Serum concentrations of vitamin E and vitamin C were found highest but serum MDA concentration was lowest in the combination group. Supplemental vitamins C and E either separately or in a combination increased serum T3 and T4 concentrations (p < 0.05), whereas decreased serum ACTH concentration (p < 0.01). Serum glucose and cholesterol concentrations decreased, whereas serum protein concentration increased (p < 0.05) when vitamins C and E singly or together were added to the diet. Vitamin C and vitamin E supplementation resulted in an increase in serum concentrations of Ca, P, and K (p < 0.01) but a decrease in serum concentration of Na (p < 0.05). The results of the present study suggest that supplemental vitamin C and vitamin E alter serum lipid peroxidation, vitamin C, vitamin E and metabolite status, and diets supplemented with a combination of these two vitamins offer a good management practice in laying hens reared at high temperatures. In addition, the results suggest that dietary vitamin C and vitamin E act synergistically.  相似文献

The effect of intraperitoneal administration of alpha-tocopherol (100 mg/kg weight/24 h) on ascorbate (0-0.4 mM) induced lipid peroxidation of mitochondria isolated from rat liver, cerebral hemispheres, brain stem and cerebellum was examined. The ascorbate induced light emission in hepatic mitochondria was nearly completely inhibited by alpha-tocopherol (control-group: 114.32+/-14.4; vitamin E-group: 17.45+/-2.84, c.p.m.x10(-4)). In brain mitochondria, 0.2 mM ascorbate produced the maximal chemiluminescence and significant differences among both groups were not observed. No significant differences in the chemiluminescence values between control and vitamin E treated groups were observed when the three brain regions were compared. The light emission produced by mitochondrial preparations was much higher in cerebral hemispheres than in brain stem and cerebellum. In liver and brain mitochondria from control group, the level of arachidonic acid (C20:4n6) and docosahexaenoic acid (C22:6n3) was profoundly affected. Docosahexaenoic in liver mitochondria from vitamin E group decreased by 30% upon treatment with ascorbic acid when compared with mitochondria lacking ascorbic acid. As a consequence of vitamin E treatment, a significant increase of C22:6n3 was detected in rat liver mitochondria (control-group: 6.42 +/-0.12; vitamin E-group: 10.52 +/-0.46). Ratios of the alpha-tocopherol concentrations in mitochondria from rats receiving vitamin E to those of control rats were as follows: liver, 7.79; cerebral hemispheres, 0.81; brain stem, 0.95; cerebellum, 1.05. In liver mitochondria, vitamin E shows a protector effect on oxidative damage. In addition, vitamin E concentration can be increased in hepatic but not in brain mitochondria. Lipid peroxidation mainly affected, arachidonic (C20:4n6) and docosahexaenoic (C22:6n3) acids.  相似文献

The aim of the experiment was to compare the antioxidative potential of an oat by-product with the effect of vitamin E on the oxidative stability of pork from pigs fed a diet enriched with linseed oil. Thirty-four crossbreed barrows were fed individually from 39 to 109 kg body weight (BW) on one of four diets: a control diet based on barley-triticale-soybean (Diet C), a diet containing an oat byproduct (Diet O), and the same diets supplemented with vitamin E (100 mg/kg diet) (Diets CE and OE, respectively). The oat by-product, comprising oat hulls and bran, was included at 10 and 20% in the grower and finisher diets, respectively. To Diets O and OE, refined rapeseed oil was added to equalise their energy content to Diets C and CE. Compared to Diets C and CE, the inclusion of the oat by-product in Diets O and OE increased the antioxidative capacity of water-soluble and lipid soluble compounds in these diets. Dietary treatment did not influence growth performance, slaughter value, longissimus dorsi (LD) muscle quality measured by nutrient contents, pH, drip loss or colour. Vitamin E supplementation increased the alpha-tocopherol concentration in serum and meat (p < 0.01), and decreased the formation of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) in the fresh and stored LD (p < 0.01). In addition, diets with the oat by-product increased serum alpha-tocopherol concentration (p < 0.01) and decreased the TBARS levels in the fresh and stored LD (p < 0.05), without increasing muscle alpha-tocopherol concentration. The obtained results indicate that the phenolic compounds present in oat by-products have a considerable antioxidant potential and a beneficial effect on the pig organism and oxidative stability of meat. However, dietary inclusion with the oat by-product was not as efficient as supplementation with vitamin E.  相似文献

The possibility was investigated that dietary supplementation of the male chicken with long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids of the n-6 and n-3 series may prevent the decrease in sperm output that normally occurs by 60 weeks of age. From 26 weeks of age, birds were raised on wheat-based diets supplemented with either maize oil (rich in linoleic acid, 18:2n-6), arasco oil (rich in arachidonic acid, 20:4n-6) or tuna orbital oil (rich in docosahexaenoic acid, 22:6n-3). The effects of the last two oils were investigated at two levels of vitamin E supplementation (40 and 200 mg kg(-1) feed). By 60 weeks of age, there was a small increase in the proportion of the main polyunsaturate of chicken sperm phospholipid, docosatetraenoic acid 22:4n-6, in chickens fed arasco oil diet compared with chickens given the maize oil diet, an effect that was potentiated at the higher dietary intake of vitamin E. Supplementation with tuna orbital oil significantly reduced the proportions of 20:4n-6 and 22:4n-6 in the sperm phospholipid and increased the proportion of 22:6n-3. The diet supplemented with tuna orbital oil and the lower level of vitamin E markedly depleted vitamin E from the tissues of the birds and decreased the concentration of vitamin E in the semen; these effects were largely prevented by the higher level of vitamin E in the diet. The susceptibility of semen to lipid peroxidation in vitro was increased in chickens fed arasco and tuna orbital oils with 40 mg vitamin E kg(-1) feed, but was reduced when 200 mg vitamin E kg(-1) feed was provided in the diet. The number of spermatozoa per ejaculate decreased by 50% between 26 weeks and 60 weeks of age in the birds fed the maize oil diet. This age-related decrease in the number of spermatozoa was almost completely prevented by feeding the birds with the oils enriched in either 20:4n-6 or 22:6n-3. Testis mass at 60 weeks of age was approximately 1.5 times greater in birds given of the arasco and tuna orbital oil diets compared with those given the maize oil diet.  相似文献

INTRODUCTION: It has been reported that hyperthyroidism is associated with an altered endothelial function and increased risk of arterial thromboembolism. The aim of our study was to estimate chosen markers of endothelial dysfunction in iodine-induced thyrotoxicosis (IIT). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The groups studied consisted of 41 hyperthyroid subjects, who had been treated with amiodarone (n = 6) or vitamin preparations supplemented with iodine (n = 35) and 40 persons with normal thyroid function. The following parameters were measured: thyroglobulin antibodies (TG Ab), thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPO Ab), THS receptor antibodies (TR Ab), soluble adhesion molecules: sVCAM-1 and sICAM-1, von Willebrand factor (vWF), plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), C-reactive protein (CRP), fibrinogen and urine iodine concentration. RESULTS: Patients with IIT had significantly higher levels of sVCAM-1 (p < 0.01), IL-6 (p < 0.005), fibrinogen (p < 0.005) and CRP (p < 0.05) in comparison to healthy subjects, whereas sICAM-1, PAI-1 and vWF concentrations did not differ between the groups studied. The highest sVCAM-1 levels were observed in patients with amiodarone induced thyrotoxicosis, and fibrinogen and CRP--in subjects receiving vitamin preparations. There were significant correlations between sVCAM-1 concentration and the levels of sICAM-1 (r = 0.341; p = 0.029) and PAI-1 (r = 0.347; p = 0.026), as well as with urine iodine concentration (r = 0.448; p = 0.004). IL-6 concentration correlated with vWF (r = 0.456; p = 0.003), TPO Ab (r = 0.328; p = 0.036) and PAI-1 level (r = 0.319; p = 0.042). CONCLUSION: Iodine induced thyrotoxicosis is associated with an increase of sVCAM-1 and IL-6 levels, possibly reflecting inflammatory and destructive processes in the thyroid gland. However, increased procoagulant activity was not found in patients with IIT.  相似文献

Obesity during pregnancy contributes to the development of metabolic disorders in offspring. Maternal exercise may limit gestational weight gain and ameliorate these programming effects. We previously showed benefits of post-weaning voluntary exercise in offspring from obese dams. Here we examined whether voluntary exercise during pregnancy influences lipid and glucose homeostasis in muscle and fat in offspring of both lean and obese dams. Female Sprague-Dawley rats were fed chow (C) or high fat (F) diet for 6 weeks before mating. Half underwent voluntary exercise (CE/FE) with a running wheel introduced 10 days prior to mating and available until the dams delivered; others remained sedentary (CS/FS). Male and female pups were killed at postnatal day (PND)19 and retroperitoneal fat and gastrocnemius muscle were collected for gene expression. Lean and obese dams achieved similar modest levels of exercise. At PND1, both male and female pups from exercised lean dams were significantly lighter (CE versus CS), with no effect in those from obese dams. At PND19, maternal obesity significantly increased offspring body weight and adiposity, with no effect of maternal exercise. Exercise significantly reduced insulin concentrations in males (CE/FE versus CS/FS), with reduced glucose in male FE pups. In males, maternal obesity significantly decreased muscle myogenic differentiation 1 (MYOD1) and glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT4) mRNA expressions (FS vs CS); these were normalized by exercise. Maternal exercise upregulated adipose GLUT4, interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma coactivator 1 alpha (PGC1α) mRNA expression in offspring of dams consuming chow. Modest voluntary exercise during pregnancy was associated with lower birth weight in pups from lean dams. Maternal exercise appeared to decrease the metabolic risk induced by maternal obesity, improving insulin/glucose metabolism, with greater effects in male than female offspring.  相似文献

The effects of vitamin E (dl-α-tocopheryl acetate) and selenium (Se; Na2-SeO3) on egg production, egg quality, and mineral content of egg yolk in Japanese quails reared under a low ambient temperature (6°C) were evaluated. Birds (n=300; 7 wk old) were randomly assigned to 12 treatment groups, 25 birds per group. The birds in a 3×2 factorial design received either three levels of vitamin E (125, 250, and 500 mg/kg diet) or two levels of selenium (0.1 or 0.2 mg/kg diet). After 2 wk on feed, six groups of the birds were maintained at 18°C (thermoneutral temperature [TN]), and the other half were acclimated over 3 d to a decreased environmental temperature of 6°C (cold stress [CS]). The performance, egg quality, and mineral content of egg yolk were not influenced by supplemental vitamin E and selenium in quails not exposed to cold stress (p≥0.09). Two hundred fifty and 500 mg vitamin E/kg diet compared with 125 mg/kg diet and higher dietary selenium inclusions (0.2 vs 0.1 mg/kg) resulted in a better body weight, egg production, and feed efficiency (p=0.01) in quails reared under CS. Similarly, egg weight, egg specific gravity, eggshell thickness, and Haugh unit were positively influenced with vitamin E (p=0.01) and selenium (p≤0.05) supplementation. Egg yolk concentrations of Zn, Fe, and Mn were higher with higher dietary vitamin E (p=0.01) and selenium (p=0.05). There was no interaction detected for parameters measured in the present study (p≥0.3). The results of the present study showed that a combination of 250 or 500 mg vitamin E and 0.2 mg selenium per kilogram of diet provides the greatest effects on performance and egg quality of Japanese quails reared under cold stress and suggest that such a supplementation can be considered as a protective management practice in Japanese quail diets to reduce the detrimental effects of cold stress.  相似文献

A 3?×?2 factorial experiment consisting three levels (0, 200, and 400 μg/kg) of chromium (chromium picolinate) and two levels (0 and 250 mg/kg) of vitamin C was employed to evaluate the effects of these dietary supplements on performance, egg quality traits, and serum biochemical parameters of heat-stressed laying hens (Lohmann LSL-Lite) from 66 to 74 weeks of age. Feed intake increased when birds were given either 400 μg/kg chromium or 250 mg/kg vitamin C (P?<?0.05), but the birds that received both chromium and vitamin C consumed feed similar to those that received only chromium. Dietary treatments had no effect on egg production, egg mass, egg volume, feed conversion ratio, and body mass (P?>?0.05). The birds that fed on diet with chromium or vitamin C produced eggs with higher shell mass and thickness compared to the control. Both eggshell mass and thickness decreased when vitamin C and chromium were supplemented simultaneously, and birds given the diet supplemented with 400 μg/kg chromium and 250 mg/kg vitamin C had eggshell mass and thickness similar to those of the control group. The serum concentration of chromium increased due to increasing level of dietary chromium (P?<?0.05). The birds that received diet with chromium and vitamin C had higher serum concentrations of chromium compared to those that received only chromium (P?<?0.05). Similarly, the hens that received chromium and vitamin C had higher serum concentrations of calcium and phosphorus compared to the hens fed with other treatments (P?<?0.05). The birds given with supplemental chromium exhibited lower serum glucose, total cholesterol, and triglycerides concentrations but higher serum albumin and total protein concentrations compared to the other groups (P?<?0.05).  相似文献

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of chromium (chromium picolinate, CrPic) and vitamin C (l-ascorbic acid) supplementation on the digestion of nutrients and serum concentration of some antioxidant vitamins and minerals of laying hens (Hy-Line) reared at a low ambient temperature (6.8°C). One hundred twenty laying hens (32 wk old) were divided into 4 groups, 30 hens per group. The laying hens were fed either a basal diet or the basal diet supplemented with either 400 μg of Cr/kg diet, 250 mg of l-ascorbic acid/kg diet, or 400 μg of Cr plus 250 mg l-ascorbic acid/kg diet. The digestibility of nutrients (DM, OM, CP, and EE) increased by the supplementation of chromium and vitamin C (p<0.05). Supplemental chromium and vitamin C also increased serum vitamin C and E but decreased malondialdehyde concentrations (p<0.05). Additionally, supplemental chromium and vitamin C caused an increase in the serum concentrations of Fe, Zn, Mn, and Cr (p<0.05) but a decrease in Cu concentration. The results of the present study showed that each dietary supplement influenced most of the parameters measured in a similar way. Also, a combination of the two supplements resulted in an additive effect, and supplementing a combination of vitamin C (250 mg/kg of diet) and chromium (400 μg Cr/kg diet) may offer a potential protective management practice in preventing cold-stress-related depression in the performance of laying hens.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of a polyphenol product (PP) (Proviox) and vitamin E on the antioxidant status and meat quality of broiler chickens exposed to high temperature. The experimental materials comprised 120 ROSS 308 broilers (6 treatments, 10 replications, 2 birds per replication). Dietary supplementation with vitamin E and PP was applied in the following experimental design: group I (negative control) – without supplementation; group II (positive control) – without supplementation; group III – supplementation with 100 mg vitamin E/kg; group IV – 200 mg vitamin E/kg; group V – 100 mg vitamin E/kg and 100 mg PP/kg; group VI – 200 mg PP/kg. In groups II–VI, broiler chickens aged 21–35 d were exposed to increased temperature (34°C for 10 h daily). In chickens exposed to high temperature, dietary supplementation with antioxidants, mostly PP, improved growth performance parameters, including body weight, body weight gain and feed intake until 28 d of age. Vitamin E added to broiler chicken diets at 200 mg/kg and vitamin E combined with PP was most effective in improving the total antioxidant status of birds, enhancing blood antioxidant enzyme activities and increasing vitamin E concentrations in the liver and breast muscles. Broilers fed diets supplemented with 200 mg/kg of vitamin E alone and vitamin E in combination with PP were characterised by a higher percentage content of breast muscles in the carcass. Dietary supplementation with antioxidants improved the water-holding capacity of meat, reduced natural drip loss and increased the crude ash content of meat. The breast muscles of chickens fed diets supplemented with PP had a lower contribution of yellowness. The breast muscles of chickens receiving diets with 100 mg vitamin E/kg(group III) and diets supplemented with PP (groups V and VI) were characterised by the highest concentrations of polyunsaturated fatty acids. The PP can be a valuable component of diets for broiler chickens exposed to high temperature.  相似文献

Background

The etiology of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) is largely unknown. Exposure to cigarette smoke (CS) is reported to be associated with MDS risk. There is inconsistent evidence that deficiency of NAD(P)H-quinone: oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) increases the risk of MDS. Earlier we had shown that CS induces toxicity only in marginal vitamin C-deficient guinea pigs but not in vitamin C-sufficient ones. We therefore considered that NQO1 deficiency along with marginal vitamin C deficiency might produce MDS in CS-exposed guinea pigs.

Methodology and Principal Findings

Here we show that CS exposure for 21 days produces MDS in guinea pigs having deficiency of NQO1 (fed 3 mg dicoumarol/day) conjoint with marginal vitamin C deficiency (fed 0.5 mg vitamin C/day). As evidenced by morphology, histology and cytogenetics, MDS produced in the guinea pigs falls in the category of refractory cytopenia with unilineage dysplasia (RCUD): refractory anemia; refractory thrombocytopenia that is associated with ring sideroblasts, micromegakaryocytes, myeloid hyperplasia and aneuploidy. MDS is accompanied by increased CD34(+) cells and oxidative stress as shown by the formation of protein carbonyls and 8-oxodeoxyguanosine. Apoptosis precedes MDS but disappears later with marked decrease in the p53 protein. MDS produced in the guinea pigs are irreversible. MDS and all the aforesaid pathophysiological events do not occur in vitamin C-sufficient guinea pigs. However, after the onset of MDS vitamin C becomes ineffective.

Conclusions and Significance

CS exposure causes MDS in guinea pigs having deficiency of NQO1 conjoint with marginal vitamin C deficiency. The syndromes are not produced in singular deficiency of NQO1 or marginal vitamin C deficiency. Our results suggest that human smokers having NQO1 deficiency combined with marginal vitamin C deficiency are likely to be at high risk for developing MDS and that intake of a moderately large dose of vitamin C would prevent MDS.  相似文献

Serum and renal clearance values of phosphate and calcium were measured and compared in 4 week-old vitamin D-deficient and vitamin D-replete chickens (Gallus gallus). D-deficient chicks had significantly lower body weights and serum calcium values; however, their renal functions were not different from D-replete controls. Serum calcium values in D-deficient birds did not change in response to parathyroid hormone (PTH) administration; however, they did drop significantly in response to parathyroidectomy (PTX). Serum phosphate values of D-deficient birds, but not D-replete birds, rose significantly after PTX. Clearance of phosphate is known to increase after administration of PTH. This conspicuous effect was absent in PTH-injected vitamin D-deficient chickens. PTX caused the excretion of phosphate to drop in both D-deficient and D-replete birds to near zero. Conversely, PTX of both D-deficient and D-replete chickens stimulated the excretion of more calcium than in controls. Calcium loading elevates the fractional excretion of calcium in both D-deficient and D-replete birds. It also causes a decrease in phosphate excretion in both groups, presumably by inhibiting the secretion of PTH. PTH administration to D-replete, calcium-loaded birds caused increased phosphate excretion (as it did in normal controls), an effect that was not seen in similarly treated D-deficient birds. Therefore, most renal functions studied after calcium loading, PTH administration, or PTX are not altered by vitamin D deficiency in the chicken. The major significant finding is that vitamin D-deficient chickens do not excrete increased amounts of phosphate in response to PTH stimulus.  相似文献

Cyclophosphamide (CP) is a widely used anticancer and immunosuppressant that induces oxidative stress. To ameliorate the side effects resulted from CP treatment, liposomes were tested as an efficient drug delivery system with or without vitamin C as an antioxidant. CP resulted in clastogenic and cytotoxic effects that significantly increased for the total chromosomal aberrations as well as the numerical ones in the CP group (150.8 and 6, respectively) than the control group (6.6 and 0.0) as mean values at p < 0.05. Micronucleus assay showed a significant increased micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes percentage (MNPCEs% = 11.7%) and a significant decrease of polychromatic to normochromatic erythrocytes ratio (0.551) when compared to the group treated with liposomised CP and vitamin C (3.44%; 0.795, respectively) at p < 0.05. Also, the total glutathione S-transferase activity as a body antioxidant enzyme was decreased from 52.2 in the control to 16.09 nmol/min/mg protein in CP group at p < 0.05, while the highly significant amelioration results were observed in the liposomised vitamin C and CP group (40.88 nmol/min/mg protein). Our findings support the potential use of CP in a liposomal formulation doped with vitamin C to diminish the potential side effects of the agent.  相似文献

The capacity of different types of exercise to rewarm the body, especially the feet, was studied. Six healthy male subjects wearing winter clothing (2.4 clo, 0.37 degrees C.m2.W-1) were exposed on three occasions to -15 degrees C for 120 min. For the first 60 min the subjects were cooled while sitting motionless and for the latter 60 min they were submitted to cycle ergometer exercise (CE), arm ergometer exercise (AE) or step exercise (ST). The rate of work in CE (about 350 W) served as a reference value for AE and ST. The cooling resulted in an average 1.7 (SEM 0.03) degrees C decrease in mean body temperature (Tb) corresponding to a 425 (SEM 9) kJ heat debt. The ST increased most effectively mean skin, rectal and lower body skin temperatures as well as dry heat loss. The ST increased Tb by 0.83 (SEM 0.16) degrees C, CE by 0.10 (SEM 0.11) degrees C and AE by only 0.07 (SEM 0.12) degrees C. At the end of the exercise the foot temperature was approximately 6 degrees C higher in ST than in CE. The superior rewarming by ST was apparently due to its low mechanical efficiency. Because the increase in Tb could not explain all the changes in foot temperatures, increased circulation and metabolism of the feet would also appear to have been involved.  相似文献

1. A comparison was made of the nature and intestinal intracellular distribution of the metabolites formed in vitamin D-deficient chicks from [4-(14)C]cholecalciferol and [1-(3)H]cholecalciferol. 2. The simultaneous administration of the two radioactive substances showed the presence in blood, liver, intestine, kidney and bone of cholecalciferol, its ester, 25-hydroxycholecalciferol and a further metabolite of cholecalciferol more polar than 25-hydroxycholecalciferol. The (3)H/(14)C ratios in these four radioactive components were the same as that of the dosed material (4.7:1) with the exception of the most polar material. The (3)H/(14)C ratio was lower in the fourth, most polar, metabolite (0.4:1-1.8:1) in all tissues examined, with the exception of blood. 3. In the chick intestine the polar metabolite accounted for almost 70% of the radioactivity in this tissue after a dose of 0.5mug. of [4-(14)C,1-(3)H]cholecalciferol. This polar metabolite from the intestine also had the lowest (3)H/(14)C ratio of all the tissues. It appears that in the chick intestine the polar metabolite reaches a maximum concentration of 1ng./g. of tissue, above which it cannot be increased irrespective of the dose of the vitamin. 4. The intestinal intracellular organelle with the highest concentration of (14)C radioactivity is the nucleus, and this radioactivity is almost entirely due to the polar metabolite with the lowered (3)H/(14)C ratio, in this case <0.2:1. It appears to be further localized in the chromatin of the nuclei. However, about half of the polar metabolite in the intestine is extranuclear. 5. Double-labelled 25-hydroxycholecalciferol was prepared and after its administration to vitamin D-deficient chicks the polar metabolite with the lowered (3)H/(14)C ratio was detected in liver, kidney, intestine, bone, muscle and heart. 6. None of the polar metabolite with the lowered (3)H/(14)C ratio was detected 16hr. after dosing with either the double-labelled vitamin or the double-labelled 25-hydroxycholecalciferol in blood and adipose tissue of vitamin D-deficient chicks, nor in the intestine, liver and kidney of supplemented birds. 7. The reasons for this loss of (3)H relative to (14)C are discussed in relation to possible chemical structures of this new polar metabolite.  相似文献

The present study was conducted to investigate the effects of four dietary fat types and two environmental temperatures on the hepatic mitochondrial energetic in male broilers exposed to heat stress. The birds were kept in two separate rooms at 24 °C or 36 °C from 32 to 42 d of age with four experimental groups in each room. The birds fed on the diets supplemented containing rich sources of long-chain saturated fatty acids (beef tallow), middle-length-chain saturated FA (coconut oil), monounsaturated FA (olive oil), or polyunsaturated FA (soybean oil) for ten days. At 36 °C, the highest body weight and lowest feed conversion ratio were recorded in the birds fed on the diets supplemented with coconut oil or beef tallow. Temperature and fat type significantly affected the activities of the mitochondrial electron transport chain complexes (P < 0.01). There was a significant interaction between the temperature and fat type (P < 0.01). Generally, electron transport chain complexes I–V enzymatic activities were decreased at 36 °C. The coconut oil-fed birds showed the highest complex I activity at both temperatures. The beef tallow-fed broilers showed the lowest complex II activity at 24 °C. In birds exposed to 36 °C, complex II activity was higher for birds fed saturated coconut oil or beef tallow than those feeding the unsaturated olive oil or soybean oil-supplemented diets. At 24 °C, the highest and lowest complex III activities were recorded for the coconut oil- and beef tallow-supplemented diets, respectively. At 36 °C, the activity of complex III was coconut oil > beef tallow > olive oil > soybean oil. At 24 °C, complex IV activity was highest in coconut oil- or soybean oil-fed broilers; and at 36 °C, complex IV showed the lowest activity in soybean oil-fed birds. The highest complex IV activity was observed in coconut oil-fed chickens followed by olive oil-fed and beef tallow-fed birds, respectively. At 24 or 36 °C, the highest and lowest complex V activity was observed in coconut oil-fed and soybean oil-fed chickens, respectively. ATP concentration and mitochondrial membrane potential were in the order of coconut oil > beef tallow > olive oil > soybean oil at both temperatures. Temperature and fat type significantly affected the avANT mRNA concentration. Exposure of broilers to 36 °C generally decreased the mRNA expression of avANT, with beef tallow- or coconut oil-supplemented birds showing a lower avANT mRNA expression than those receiving olive oil- or soybean oil-supplemented diets. These findings provide further information on the use of fat sources in the diet of heat stressed-broilers.  相似文献

The effects of vitamins C and E on layer chickens transported by road for 6 h during the hot dry season were investigated. Two experimental groups consisting of thirty Shika Brown layers were separately administered vitamins C and E orally just before transportation, while another 30 layers, which were only given sterile water, served as control. Blood samples analyzed before and after transportation in the control layers showed a decrease (p<0.05) in total white blood cell, (p<0.01) lymphocyte and monocyte values, and a significant (p<0.05) and (p<0.001) increase in the values of eosinophils and heterophils post-transportation, respectively. In the experimental groups, post-transportation values of total white blood cells, eosinophils and monocytes were not different (p>0.05) from those obtained before transportation. Heterophil/lymphocyte values were highest in the control group. The result showed that transportation was stressful for the control layers. Post-transportation egg production was not significantly (p>0.05) different in the vitamin E treated group, but values recorded for the vitamin C and control groups were significantly (p<0.05) and (p<0.001) reduced compared to pre-transportation. In conclusion, vitamins C and E administration ameliorated the adverse effect of road transportation stress during the hot dry season.  相似文献
