This study was carried out to evaluate the culture filtrates of certain bio-agents (Epicoccum nigrum, Epicoccum minitans, Epicoccum sp., Trichoderma harzianum, Trichoderma viride and Bacillus pumilus) alone and mixed with penconazole against powdery mildew in okra. The results showed that the culture filtrate of E. nigrum induced the highest efficacy against powdery mildew relative to other treatments in both tested seasons. Moreover, culture filtrate of E.nigrum mixed with the tested fungicide gave higher efficiency against powdery mildew than use of the fungicide alone. The efficacy of the tested culture filtrates against powdery mildew due to the presence of different antifungal compounds identified by (GC–MS) analysis. This study suggests the ability of using the culture filtrates of the tested bio-agents as alternative of fungicides to control powdery mildew in okra. Furthermore, the results implied the possibility to minimise the use of fungicides by mixing with the microbial culture filtrates.  相似文献

A 3‐year field trial was conducted using established apple cv. Crown Gold and English oak (Quercus robur L.) to assess the efficacy of eight fungicides applied via microcapsule trunk injection against the foliar pathogens apple scab (Venturia inaequalis) and powdery mildew (Phyllactinia sp). In both apple cv. Crown Gold and English oak, the fungicide myclobutanil was not taken up when microcapsules were inserted into the tree vascular system at the root flare. Disease severity in injected trees, excluding myclobutanil, was lower over the following two growing seasons compared to water‐injected controls indicating seven of the eight fungicides used in this study provided a significant degree of protection against scab and powdery mildew infection. A difference in the magnitude of pathogen control achieved was recorded between fungicides. Of the fungicides tested, penconazole, pyrifenox and carbendazim significantly reduced disease severity and significantly increased leaf chlorophyll (Fv/Fm) and SPAD values as a measure of tree vitality and chlorophyll content, respectively, in both apple cv. Crown Gold and English oak over two growing seasons after microcapsule injection. Based on the results of this investigation, it is suggested that these three fungicides be used in preference to thiabendazole, fosetyl‐aluminium, triadimefon and propiconazole for the control of apple scab and powdery mildew where outbreaks of these foliar pathogens are problematic.  相似文献

We investigated whether a plant chitinase can be used as a biocontrol agent instead of chemical fungicides by spraying chitinase E (family 19; class IV) from a yam (Dioscorea opposita Thunb) alone or together with beta-1,3-glucanase directly onto the surface of a powdery mildew infecting strawberry berries and leaves. Results were observed by eye and with a scanning electron microscope. The powdery mildew infecting the strawberries was degraded, mainly by the chitinase, and the disease did not appear again for more than 2 weeks. These results indicated that this kind of plant chitinase might be safe and biodegradable biocontrol agent for use instead of conventional fungicides.  相似文献

Treatment of seed with the systemic fungicides triadimenol plus fuberidazole as Baytan significantly decreased powdery mildew in field experiments involving eight oat cultivars differing widely in their resistance to the disease. This was so up to growth stage G.S. 61 (Zadoks) even in a year of high mildew incidence, although the effect diminished after flowering. Significant (P≥ 0.001) interactions between fungicide treatments and cultivars occurred in each of three years at nearly all assessment times. In years of high mildew incidence (1983 and 1984), susceptible cultivars developed similar levels of mildew in seed-treated and untreated plots by about flowering time, although cultivars with adult plant resistance (APR) had significantly less mildew when seed-treated than when left untreated. Later, as the APR was fully expressed and the fungicide effectiveness was declining, similar mildew levels were recorded on treated and untreated plots. Untreated APR cultivars generally had less mildew than treated susceptible cultivars and in a year of late and light mildew, APR alone provided good protection. Seed treatments combined with foliar sprays of tridemorph as Calixin almost completely controlled mildew except on very susceptible cultivars late in the season in high mildew years. Over all cultivars, seed treatment gave yield advantages of 5.3% (1983) and 6.6% (1984) but in 1982, a year of low mildew, the response was small. The possible influence of integrated host resistance and fungicides in stabilising the pathogen population at economically unimportant levels and the environmental benefit of using host resistance to minimise fungicide usage is discussed.  相似文献

Powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca mors-uvae) severely infects young shoots, stems and fruits of gooseberry (Ribes uva-crispa). Environmental friendly and biological control measures are being sought throughout the world. Especially in organic gooseberry growing effective control measures are needed, because powdery mildew infections may result in a total loss of the crop. In organic currant growing the number of adequate control methods is very limited. Sulphur as a fungicide against powdery mildew in e.g. gooseberry or table grape growing is not recommendable due to possible bleaching of berries and scorching of tender shoots. Various bicarbonate salts are suggested as a good option to control powdery mildew. In a field trial the effect of potassium bicarbonate (Armicarb) on the on the control of powdery mildew of gooseberry was evaluated. Four treatments; i.e. two preventive strategies and two curative strategies, were applied. PLants were sprayed until runoff. The percent of infected fruits and disease severity were assessed. In the unsprayed control plots very high disease incidences were observed; on average more than 90% of the berries were infected with powdery mildew. The weekly (preventive) spray applications with potassium carbonate reduced the disease incidences on fruits significantly. On average approximately 10% of the fruits were affected by powdery mildew. However, the number of spray applications was high. In conclusion, our results indicate that applications of potassium bicarbonate (as Armicarb) are effective in reducing the incidence and severity of American powdery mildew in gooseberry. Early spray applications are necessary to protect berries against powdery mildew infections. Future research will focus on reducing the number of applications, e.g. warning models based on powdery mildew of rose (Sphaerotheca pannosa).  相似文献

Vapour action of fungicides against powdery mildews   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Certain fungicides prevented the growth of powdery mildews at distances extending several millimetres beyond the edge of localized deposits on leaves. Most of the materials also acted at a distance when separated from the leaf by glass cover-slips, indicating that the effect was due to the emission of vapour. In addition to sulphur and lime-sulphur, whose vapour action is already known, fungicides based on drazoxolon, oxythioquinox, binap-acryl, dinitro-octyl phenyl crotonates and a phthalimido-phosphonothionate were found to act in this way. Two systemic fungicides, griseofulvin and triamiphos, did not give a detectable vapour action. Tests were conducted mostly on open glasshouse benches. A draught from a fan shifted the zones of inhibition to one side of the deposits, but did not reduce their areas. Vapour effects were similar in extent on plants maintained at 18–25° C and at 27–32° C. Variation in the areas protected was studied in relation to the size and fungicide content of the deposits, to different powdery mildews, to time of incubation and to different types of formulation. Deposits applied to leaves by high- or low-volume sprays at concentrations used in the field gave significant protection at a distance. Vapour effects were demonstrated also on mildew conidia incubated on glass slides bearing a spot of fungicide, and on infected plants placed in beakers coated on the bottom with fungicide. Movement of fungicides in the gaseous state is discussed in relation to the control of foliage diseases in the field.  相似文献

Rose powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca pannosa var. rosae) is one of the most common foliar diseases of roses worldwide. Application of chemical products on the plant or in the soil kills a range of the beneficial micro-organisms thereby disturbing ecosystem. Compost tea helps to restore and increase the populations of those beneficial micro-organisms. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the comparison of biopesticide (compost tea) and a chemical pesticide. The experiment was performed in three treatments, which were compost tea, fungicide (Topaz) and no treatment in three replications. After foliar applications of biopesticide and fungicide, the control percentage was estimated based on the number of infected flowers with powdery mildew. The results indicated that there was a significant difference between these treatments on rose in controlling powdery mildew (F?=?23.25, p?=?0.0015, df?=?2), at a probability level of 1% (p???0.01). So, that control percentage of compost tea treatment was the most.  相似文献

Representative fungicides from three or four families used for management of powdery mildew and other diseases in tree fruits were evaluated for their effects on a common spider mite and predator mite species, respectively. A modified Munger cell technique was effective in measuring the response of phytophagous and predaceous mites to fungicide residues on detached leaves in the laboratory. Demethylation-inhibiting (DMI) (imidazole [triflumazole] and triazole [myclobutanil]) and strobilurin (trifloxystrobin) fungicides were not toxic to female Tetranychus urticae Koch and Galendromus occidentalis (Nesbitt), and no sublethal effects were found on fecundity and predation rate after 3-5-d exposure to residues. Benomyl, a benzimidazole fungicide, increased adult mortality and reduced fecundity for both mite species; however, it did not alter the predation rate of G. occidentalis females on T. urticae eggs and larvae. Female G. occidentalis that survived the lethal effects of benomyl and the comparison acaricide pyridaben were unimpaired in predation. Our results for benomyl substantiate those of earlier studies and provide evidence for nontoxic effects of DMI and strobilurin fungicides on mites. We propose that DMI and strobilurin fungicides are a good fit for integrated mite management programs due to conservation of phytoseiid predatory mites.  相似文献

Experiments with fungicide mixtures used protectively and curatively against apple scab showed no advantage from adding phenylmercury chloride (PMC) to certain protective fungicides. Sulphur fungicides greatly impaired the curative activity of PMC, especially in mixtures applied 24 hr. after infection, but captan showed little and dodine acetate no such effect. PMC, however, contributed appreciably to the curative effectiveness of mixtures with captan or dodine acetate. Commercially prepared mixtures of dispersible sulphur with phenylmercury dimethyldithiocarbamate and of zineb with mancozeb gave promising results, and an experimental mixture of dodine/glyodin acetates at low rates was effective protectively and especially curatively. Dodine acetate, dichlofluanid, lime-sulphur, and isobutyl-o-coumarate showed little translocated activity against scab when applied after infection, and PMC, which earlier showed strong translocated activity when applied in summer before infection, was much less effective when applied in spring 24 hr. after infection. Uncontrolled powdery mildew early in the scab-incubation period greatly reduced the establishment of scab infection on the test plants (clonal root-stocks); methods of mildew control in such experiments are suggested.  相似文献

The growing interest in the substitution of ‘synthetic pesticides’ by natural ones has fostered the research on vegetable sources and the screening of plant materials to identify new compounds. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of several essential oils used alone and alternating with a synthetic fungicide. Experimental trials were carried out in greenhouse during the years 2012–2013 testing four alternative application programmes. Chemical composition of the essential oils and evaluation of their residues on treated zucchini leaves were reported by a gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC/MS) analysis. Moreover, relative density analyses were carried out. The obtained results showed that the alternation of essential oils and synthetic chemicals can maintain a disease control, resulting that an integrated control management of zucchini powdery mildew is able to reduce the use of synthetic fungicides.  相似文献

Ozonized sunflower oil (oleozon) is an effective agent for controlling powdery mildew in cucumber. In this study, the mechanisms of oleozon in the control of powdery mildew were determined. The development of Podosphaera xanthii on cucumber leaves treated with oleozon (2%) and water was investigated at different times after inoculation. The germinating conidia, hyphae and conidiophores of the pathogen were severely damaged by oleozon. No visible phytotoxic effect was observed on cucumber after the application of oleozon. This compound had highly preventive effects as well as curative effects against powdery mildew based on in vivo potted seedling assays. The control effects of oleozon were further confirmed in a greenhouse trial. These results may provide a basis for further development of a natural fungicide against cucumber powdery mildew.  相似文献

Knowledge of processes leading to crop damage is central to devising rational approaches to disease management. Multiple experiments established that infection of hop cones by Podosphaera macularis was most severe if inoculation occurred within 15 to 21 days after bloom. This period of infection was associated with the most pronounced reductions in alpha acids, cone color, and accelerated maturation of cones. Susceptibility of cones to powdery mildew decreased progressively after the transition from bloom to cone development, although complete immunity to the disease failed to develop. Maturation of cone tissues was associated with multiple significant affects on the pathogen manifested as reduced germination of conidia, diminished frequency of penetration of bracts, lengthening of the latent period, and decreased sporulation. Cones challenged with P. macularis in juvenile developmental stages also led to greater frequency of colonization by a complex of saprophytic, secondary fungi. Since no developmental stage of cones was immune to powdery mildew, the incidence of powdery mildew continued to increase over time and exceeded 86% by late summer. In field experiments with a moderately susceptible cultivar, the incidence of cones with powdery mildew was statistically similar when fungicide applications were made season-long or targeted only to the juvenile stages of cone development. These studies establish that partial ontogenic resistance develops in hop cones and may influence multiple phases of the infection process and pathogen reproduction. The results further reinforce the concept that the efficacy of a fungicide program may depend largely on timing of a small number of sprays during a relatively brief period of cone development. However in practice, targeting fungicide and other management tactics to periods of enhanced juvenile susceptibility may be complicated by a high degree of asynchrony in cone development and other factors that are situation-dependent.  相似文献

Turfgrass, the most widely grown ornamental crop, is severely affected by fungal pathogens including Sclerotinia homoeocarpa, Rhizoctonia solani, and Magnaporthe poae. At present, turfgrass fungal disease management predominantly relies on synthetic fungicide treatments. However, the extensive application of fungicides to the soil increases residual detection frequency, raising concerns for the environment and human health. The bacterial volatile compound, 2,3-butanediol (BDO), was found to induce plant resistance. In this study, we evaluated the disease control efficacy of a combination of stereoisomers of 2,3-BDO and commercial fungicides against turfgrass fungal diseases in both growth room and fields. In the growth room experiment, the combination of 0.9% 2R,3R-BDO (levo) soluble liquid (SL) formulation and 9% 2R,3S-BDO (meso) SL with half concentration of fungicides significantly increased the disease control efficacy against dollar spot and summer patch disease when compared to the half concentration of fungicide alone. In field experiments, the disease control efficiency of levo 0.9% and meso 9% SL, in combination with a fungicide, was confirmed against dollar spot and large patch disease. Additionally, the induction of defense-related genes involved in the salicylic acid and jasmonic acid/ethylene signaling pathways and reactive oxygen species detoxification-related genes under Clarireedia sp. infection was confirmed with levo 0.9% and meso 9% SL treatment in creeping bentgrass. Our findings suggest that 2,3-BDO isomer formulations can be combined with chemical fungicides as a new integrated tool to control Clarireedia sp. infection in turfgrass, thereby reducing the use of chemical fungicides.  相似文献

The adults and larvae of halyziine coccinellids (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae: Halyziini) are obligate mycophages on hyphae and conidia of powdery mildew (PM) (Erysiphales) fungi, that are plant pathogens warranting chemical control in many managed systems. These insects have been observed to reduce PM severity through consumption. Fungicide applications, however, may interfere with this ecological service. Five commercial fungicides were topically applied to the mycophagous coccinellid, Psyllobora vigintimaculata, in the laboratory to gauge contact toxicity. In order to detect interference in the field, population density of naturally occurring P. vigintimaculata was assessed weekly in a northern California vineyard (Vitis vinifera, cultivar “Chardonnay”) over 3 years in relation to PM (Erysiphe necator) severity and in the presence of various fungicides. Wettable sulfur was toxic to adults in the laboratory, resulting in complete cohort mortality 24 h after application. Topical applications of a strobilurin fungicide (trifloxystrobin) and a demethylation inhibitor fungicide (myclobutanil) also resulted in significant adult mortality. Rapid and complete larval mortality was observed in the laboratory after contact with wettable sulfur and myclobutanil. There was no effect on survival after contact with the PM-antagonistic bacterium, Bacillus subtilis. Vineyard density of P. vigintimaculata was reduced in vines receiving applications of sulfur and myclobutanil, even when considering the covariate PM severity. The microbial antagonist, Streptomyces lydicus, did not significantly affect insect density. Our study questions the integration of chemical disease management with naturally occurring mycophagous agents in some agricultural systems.  相似文献

A model of the effect of foliar-applied fungicides on disease-induced yield loss is described, parameterised and tested. The effects of fungicides on epidemics of Septoria tritici (leaf blotch), Puccinia striiformis (yellow rust), Blumeria graminis f.sp. tritici (powdery mildew) and Puccinia triticina (brown rust) on winter wheat were simulated using dose–response curve parameters. Where two or more active substances were applied together, their joint action was estimated using an additive dose model where the active substances had the same mode of action or a multiplicative survival model where the modes of action differed. By coupling the model with models of wheat canopy growth and foliar disease published previously, it was possible to estimate disease-induced yield loss for a prescribed fungicide programme. The difference in green canopy area and, hence, interception of photosynthetically active radiation between simulated undiseased and diseased (but treated) crop canopies was used to estimate yield loss. The model was tested against data from field experiments across a range of sites, seasons and wheat cultivars and was shown to predict the observed disease-induced yield loss with sufficient accuracy to support fungicide treatment decisions. A simple method of accounting for uncertainty in the predictions of yield loss is described. Fungicide product, dose and spray timing combinations selected using the coupled models responded appropriately to disease pressure and cultivar disease resistance.  相似文献

Hyphomycete Paecilomyces fumosoroseus that is well known as saprophytic and entomopatogenic fungus was investigated for its mycoparasitism on the cucumber powdery mildew pathogen. Mycoparasitism was documented by using standard bioassay and SEM. Effects of mycoparasitism were evaluated in three types of experiments. Paecilomyces fumosoroseus was applied in the form of graded suspensions into a colony of powdery mildew on a leaf segment. Interaction between both fungi was observed as the percentage of colonized area vs. experimental time. In the second experiment, young cucumber plants were sprayed with a suspension of Paecilomyces fumosoroseus 24 h before inoculation of Sphaerotheca fuliginea. Pre-treatment with P. fumosoroseus reduced development and spreading of powdery mildew infection significantly 15 days post-inoculation in contrast to pre-treatments with sulfur fungicide and distilled water. The development of pure culture powdery mildew under determined experimental conditions was observed and compared with treated variants. In the third experiment, mildewed plants were treated with a suspension of P. fumosoroseus. The control treatments with sulfur fungicide and distilled water were tested. Effects of P. fumosoroseus on the dispersion of powdery mildew during a 21-day period were observed.P. fumosoroseus suppressed the development and spread of cucumber powdery mildew significantly during the time of the experiment. The mechanical and physical damages and disruptions of vegetative and fruiting structures of powdery mildew were recorded under light microscopy and S.E.M.Results were concluded in pursuance to differences between the natural behaviour and development of S. fuliginea on cucumber plants treated with P. fumosoroseus and non-treated plants.  相似文献

A single nucleotide polymorphism in the wheat powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici) cytochrome b gene is responsible for resistance to inhibitors of the quinol outer binding site of the cytochrome bc1 complex (QoI) fungicides. Analysis of a partial sequence of the cytochrome b gene from field isolates resistant and sensitive to QoI fungicides revealed the same point mutation in barley powdery mildew (B. graminis f. sp. hordei). Analysis of 118 and 40 barley powdery mildew isolates using a cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence assay and denaturing high performance liquid chromatography, respectively, confirmed that this single nucleotide polymorphism also confers resistance to QoI fungicides in barley powdery mildew.  相似文献

Circumstantial evidence from field experiments at Rothamsted suggested that effects of powdery mildew on grain filling in spring barley may be determined partly by temperature during the grain-filling period. An experiment was, therefore, done which compared the effects of fungicides applied to control powdery mildew on grain filling in early- and late-sown spring barley plants kept either out-of-doors throughout their growth (‘cool’ environment) or under the same conditions until the start of grain filling and then transferred to a heated glasshouse (‘warm’ environment) until harvested. Fungicides that controlled mildew increased the total grain yield of the late-sown barley more than that of the early-sown and much more in the warm environment than in the cool. On average, the effect of the fungicides in the cool environment was to increase grain yield by 17·7%. Small increases in numbers of grains/ear (+ 3·4%) and thousand-grain weight (TGW) (+ 2·3%) contributed to this increase but it could be attributed principally to an average increase in numbers of ears/plant of 12·4%. Contrastingly, fungicides increased average grain yield in the warm environment by 58·2%. Effects of the fungicides on numbers of ears/plant (+ 27·8%) and on numbers of grains/ear (+ 4·5%) were not significantly different to those in the cool environment, and the much greater responses in the warm than in the cool environment could be attributed mostly to much larger effects on grain size (+ 19·2%) The greater benefits of the fungicides and, by implication, the greater damage done by powdery mildew in the warm than in the cool environment cannot, unequivocally, be attributed to differences in temperature during grain-filling because the two environments clearly differed in other ways and especially in light intensity. Nevertheless, the results obtained do illustrate the potential risks involved in using data obtained under one set of circumstances to predict what will happen in another, especially when environments differ as greatly as glasshouses and fields.  相似文献

Controlled glasshouse experiments were conducted to investigate the temporal progress of powdery mildew and its effects on host dynamics of tomato, without and with one fungicide application. Healthy tomato transplants (5‐ to 6‐week old) were artificially inoculated with powdery mildew, and disease progress as well as host growth were monitored in both fungicide sprayed and unsprayed treatments and compared with non‐inoculated plants. Actual disease severity on a plant basis increased in unsprayed plants reaching maximum severity in the proportionate range of 0.53–0.83. One fungicide spray significantly reduced the maximum disease severity by two‐ to fourfolds. Despite adjustments for defoliation, declines in the proportion of disease severity between successive assessments were evident. Whereas the estimated growth rates of diseased plants were significantly lower than that of healthy plants, no significant differences were observed in the maximum leaf area formed of inoculated and non‐inoculated plants. A considerable effect of the powdery mildew epidemics was manifested through hastened shrivelling and defoliation of diseased leaves within the tomato canopy. An average of 18–29% and 40–52% of leaves had abscised from the plant canopy at the last date of assessment in sprayed and non‐sprayed plants, respectively. Accordingly, defoliation accounted for 14–33.3% and 58.3–63.1% losses in leaf area of sprayed and non‐sprayed plants, respectively. Duration of healthy leaf area and yield of inoculated plants were also significantly reduced by powdery mildew epidemics.  相似文献

The response of a fungal population to a fungicide is normally highly variable. Individual lethal doses usually form a normal distribution when plotted against log dose. The shape of this distribution varies with chemical and organism. Spore germination, haustorial formation, etc. vary independently. Variation in disease control is the product of the variation at each stage. Variation is both genotypic and phenotypic. The successful use of a fungicide should, theoretically, result in a shift in the dose-response of the survivors. The shift ought to be greatest where the original spread of the lethal dose was widest. The effect of ethirimol on barley powdery mildew supports these theoretical conclusions. Good control of mildew following the use of ethirimol resulted in residual populations which were less sensitive to the fungicide than those in nearby untreated fields. Within treated fields the most sensitive members of the population were absent and the overall variation decreased. The progressive shift in sensitivity which might have been expected did not occur. Successive sampling of the same fields revealed rapid changes in sensitivity, but in either direction. The proportion of less sensitive individuals declined toward the end of the season and much of the original variability returned.  相似文献
