Terpenoids from Wedelia buphthalmiflora

A series of known di- and triterpenoids were characterized in the whole plant of Wedelia buphthaimiflora.     

Sempervirenic acid,a diterpene acid from Solidago sempervirens

Sempervirenic acid, a new diterpene has been isolated from Solidago sempervirens and its structure determined by spectroscopic methods and chemical conversions to be 3β-acetoxy-labda-7,13-diene-15-oic acid.     

A kolavane derivative from Liatris scariosa

A new kolavane derivative, 18-acetoxy-kolav-3-en-15-oic acid, has been isolated from Liatris scariosa.     

Kolavane and kaurane diterpenes from the stem bark of Xylopia aethiopica

The stem bark of Xylopia aethiopica has yielded four diterpenes, two of them novel. Three of the diterpenes were identified as (?)-kaur-16-en-19-oic acid and its 7-oxo and 7β-hydroxy derivatives. The fourth was the novel kolavane derivative 2-oxo-kolav-3,13-dien-15-oic acid, a type of compound not previously recorded in the Annonaceae.     

8β-hydroxypimar-15-en-19-oic acid from Taxodium mucronatum

A new diterpenoid has been isolated from the leaves and fruits of Taxodium mucronatum. Its structure, 8β-hydroxypimar-15-en- 19-oic acid, was established by chemical and spectroscopic means.     

Minor triterpenes from Orthopterygium huancuy

Two new triterpenes, 3-oxo-20-hydroxy-lupan-28-oic and 3β,6β-dihydroxy-olean-18-en-28-oic acids, along with oleanonic, morolic and sumaresinolic acids have been isolated from Orthopterygium huancuy. The structure of the first new terpene was determined by single crystal X-ray analysis.     

Triterpenoids from enkianthus campanulatus

From the leaves of Enkianthus campanulatus were isolated three new triterpenes, 3-oxo-19,23,24-trihydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid, 3β,6β, 19,23-tetrahydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid and 3β,6β,23-trihydroxyurs-12-en-28-oic acid.     

13C NMR spectral analysis of eperuane diterpenes

The ¹³C NMR spectra of some eperuane diterpenes have been recorded and the signals assigned. The substituent shielding effects in these compounds, in comparison with those observed in other series of diterpenes, are also presented.

Two new triterpenes from the root of Periandra dulcis were found to be 3,25-dioxoolean-12(13)-en-30-oic acid and 3,25-dioxoolean-18(19)-en-30-oic acid.     

Essential oil and terpenoids of Mikania micrantha

Twenty-seven mainly terpenoid constituents were identified in the essential oil of Mikania micrantha whole plant. Higher terpenoids present in the same plant included two kaurene derivatives and taraxasterol.     

Cleonioic acid,a new diterpenoid from Cleonia lusitanica

From the aerial parts of Cleonia lusitanica four previously known diterpenoids have been isolated. In addition, a new isopimarane derivative, cleonioic acid, has been obtained and the structure 11α-acetoxy-7,15-iso-pimaradien-18-oic acid established by chemical and spectroscopic means and by correlation with 7,15-isopimaradien-18-ol.     

Sapogenins from Guaiacum officinale

Acid hydrolysis of the saponins from the stem bark of Guaiacum officinale yielded the new sapogenin 3β,20η-dihydroxy-30-norolean-12-en-28-oic acid and the artifacts 3β-hydroxy-30-norolean-12,19-dien-28-oic acid and its methyl ester. Larreagenin, sitosterol and oleanolic acid were also isolated.     

Terpenoids from the seed of platycladus orientalis

Four labdane-type diterpenoids have been isolated from the seed of Platycladus orientalis. Their structures have been elucidated by spectroscopic and chemical methods.     

(25S)-Cholesten-26-oic acid derivatives from an Indonesian soft coral Minabea sp.

(25S)-3-Oxocholesta-1,4-dien-26-oic acid (1) and a new (25S)-18-acetoxy-3-oxocholesta-1,4-dien-26-oic acid (2) were isolated from a soft coral Minabea sp. (cf. aldersladei) collected in North Sulawesi, Indonesia, together with two known cholic-acid-type compounds, 3-oxochol-1,4-dien-24-oic acid (3) and 3-oxochol-4-en-24-oic acid (4). The structures of these compounds were determined on the basis of their spectroscopic data. The absolute stereochemistry at C-25 of 2 was determined by comparative ¹H NMR study using chiral anisotropic reagents [(S)- and (R)-phenylglycine methyl esters]. This is the first to report compound 1 as a natural product.

Triterpenoid acids from Sapium sebiferum

Sebiferenic acid, isolated from the bark of Sapium sebiferum, has been characterized as 2α,3β-dihydroxytaraxer-14-en-28-oic acid on the basis of ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR and mass spectral evidence and chemical transformations. The structure of sebiferic acid has been revised.     

Structure of terminic acid,a dihydroxytriterpene carboxylic acid from Terminalia arjuna

The structure of terminic acid, a new dihydroxytriterpene carboxylic acid isolated from the roots of Terminalia arjuna, has been established as 3β, 13β-dihydroxylup-20(29)-en-28-oic acid by a study of its chemical reactions and spectroscopic data. Terminic acid and its derivatives were found to undergo skeletal rearrangement under protonic conditions to yield oleanene lactone.
