This study was carried out to investigate the optimum composition of sex pheromones for mate attraction in the rice green caterpillar Naranga aenescens, and to evaluate the effects of pheromone quantity, trap type, and trapping location on trapping success in Korean paddy fields. Mating rate of N. aenescens increased with age, with the highest mating rate 2 days after emergence. The highest mating rate occurred within 1 h after lights-off; mating pairs were not observed during the photophase. In electroantennogram (EAG) and gas chromatography with electroantennographic detection (GC–EAD) analysis, virgin female extracts had 2 EAD-active components. The mass spectra of the 2 distinct EAD-active components were identical to those of Z9-14:Ac and Z11-16:Ac. Additionally, Z9-16:Ac was identified in the extracts in gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) analysis. Wing traps with lures containing 1 mg of a 2:1:4 mixture of Z9-14:Ac, Z9-16:Ac, and Z11-16:Ac was the most attractive to N. aenescens males. Pheromone-baited wing trapping, therefore, can be a simple and effective tool for monitoring N. aenescens populations.  相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the sex pheromone composition of the variegated cutworm (Peridroma saucia Hübner) in Korea. The sex pheromone components of P. saucia were identified as (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate (Z9-14:Ac) and (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate (Z11-16:Ac) through GC-EAD and GC–MS analysis. EAG tests of the male antennae revealed that the Z9-14:AC exerted significantly larger responses than other compounds. The female moths primarily called and copulated between 6 h and 7 h after the lights off, and the ratio of two pheromone components, Z9-14:Ac and Z11-16:Ac, in the sex pheromone gland during this period was 1:2.1 to 1:2.4. In the field trapping studies, a large number of male moths were caught in the traps baited with the mixtures of Z9-14:Ac and Z11-16:Ac at the ratios ranging from 2.3:1 to 1:4, with the highest trap catches at 1:1 to 1:2.3 ratios of the two components. The seasonal flight activities of P. saucia monitored by using pheromone lures revealed complicated patterns in Korea. Specifically, the first flight period was spread over a long period and irregular, while the second flight period differed among the localities examined.  相似文献

豆野螟Maruca vitrata (Fabricius)是一种严重的泛热带豆类蔬菜害虫。本文在(29±1)℃、相对湿度75%~80%、光周期14L∶10D条件下研究了豆野螟成虫的羽化、交尾行为以及雌蛾性信息素的释放节律。结果表明:其羽化行为全天可见,在雌蛾中,86%于暗期羽化; 在雄蛾中,73%于暗期羽化。雌雄蛾羽化行为在暗期第4、5和8 h差异达到显著 (t>4; P<0.05)。交尾活动发生在暗期19:00到5:00之间,交尾持续时间最短约为20 min,最长约为90 min,3日龄进入暗期第5 h具有最高的交尾率。1、6和7日龄成虫具有单个交尾高峰,2到5日龄成虫具有两个交尾高峰。同一日龄成虫交尾在暗期前半段平均花费的时间要明显高于在后半段花费的时间。低龄和高龄的成虫用于交尾的时间明显高于中龄的性成熟成虫。成虫的开始交尾时间随着日龄的增加逐渐前移。雄蛾对进入暗期后第5 h和第9 h处女雌蛾的性腺提取物和空气收集性信息素的触角电位反应最强,对 3日龄处女雌蛾的性腺提取物和空气收集性信息素的触角电位反应最强。处女雌蛾田间诱蛾试验表明:23:00-01:00为诱蛾高峰期,3日龄处女雌蛾的诱蛾效果最好。该蛾的羽化、交尾及性信息素产生与释放均存在节律上的一致性。雌蛾的性信息素释放的时间较长,见于整个暗期,然而交尾行为发生时间较短,主要发生于两个交尾高峰之间。  相似文献

长角血蜱Haemaphysalis longicornis的交配行为包括7个时期,行为的完成依赖于性信息素的调节。生物测定表明:雄蜱的行为反应受雌蜱分泌的性信息素影响。堵塞雌蜱盾窝其行为受到抑制,点滴2,6-DCP或雌蜱盾窝腺提取物则被恢复。用气相色谱法测定了雌蜱盾窝腺中2,6-DCP的含量;吸血后1~2天含量最高(11.12 ng/只);吸血后3~5天即交配前下降交维持在一较恒定的水平;吸血后6~7天即交配后明显降低;饱血后检测不到2,6-DCP。2,6-DCP是长角血蜱性信息素的一种成分。  相似文献

GC-EAD analyses of pheromone gland extracts of calling female Sparganothis sulfureana revealed at least 6 compounds that consistently elicited antennal responses from male antennae. In addition to the major pheromone compound, (E)-11-tetradecenyl acetate (E11–14:OAc), which was previously reported, the other compounds were found to be (E)-9-dodecenyl acetate (E9–12:OAc), (Z)-9-dodecenyl acetate (Z9–12:OAc), (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate (Z9–14:OAc), (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetate (Z11–14:OAc), and (E)-11-tetradecenol (E11–14:OH). Tetradecyl acetate, hexadecyl acetate and hexadecenyl acetates were also present in the extracts, but elicited no EAG response from male antennae. Wind tunnel tests demonstrated that males from New Jersey responded equally well to a blend containing five pheromone components in relative to the pheromone glands of calling females. Different male-response profiles from field-trapping tests conducted in the states of Wisconsin and New Jersey were observed, respectively. Significantly higher numbers of male S. sulfureana were caught in New Jersey in traps baited with the binary blend of E11–14:OAc (30 μg) with 1% of Z11–14:OAc, but males from Wisconsin responded equally well to traps containing blends of E11–14:OAc with 0–10% of Z11–14:OAc. The addition of more than 10% of Z11–14:OAc to the primary pheromone compound reduced male captures significantly in both states. Male catches were doubled by adding E9–12:OAc and E11–14:OH to the most attractive binary blend in both states. The trapping test with caged live virgin female moths showed that males in Wisconsin preferred females from the local population than those from New Jersey. The differences in male responses observed may indicate the existence of pheromone polymorphism in this species.  相似文献

The adzuki bean borer moth, Ostrinia scapulalis, uses a mixture of (E)-11- and (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetates as a sex pheromone. At a step in the pheromone biosynthetic pathway, fatty-acyl precursors are converted to corresponding alcohols by an enzyme, fatty-acyl reductase (FAR). Here we report the cloning of FAR-like genes expressed in the pheromone gland of female O. scapulalis, and the characterization of a single pheromone-gland-specific FAR (pgFAR) and its functional assay using an insect cell expression system. As many as thirteen FAR-like genes (FAR-I–FAR-XIII) were expressed in the pheromone gland of O. scapulalis; however, only one (FAR-XIII) was pheromone-gland-specific. The deduced amino acid sequence of FAR-XIII predicted a 462-aa protein with a conserved NAD(P)H-binding motif in the N-terminal region, showing overall identity of 34% with the pgFAR of Bombyx mori. A functional assay using Sf9 cells transfected with an expression vector containing the open reading frame of the FAR-XIII gene has proven that FAR-XIII protein has the ability to convert a natural substrate, (Z)-11-tetradecenoic acid, to a corresponding alcohol, (Z)-11-tetradecenol.  相似文献

(9Z,11E)-hexadecadienal and (Z11)-hexadecenal, the main sex pheromone components of the sugarcane borer, Diatraea saccharalis, were identified and quantified from four Brazilian and one Colombian populations using GC-EAD, GC-MS and GC analyses. Three different ratios were observed, 9:1, 6:1, and 3:1. The pheromone concentration for the major component, (9Z,11E)-hexadecadienal, varied from 6.8 ng/gland to 21.9 ng/gland and from 1.7 ng/gland to 6.5 to the minor component, (Z11)-hexadecenal. The 25 D. saccharalis cytochrome oxidase II sequences that were analyzed showed low intra-specific variation and represented only 11 haplotypes, with the most frequent being the one represented by specimens from São Paulo, Paraná, and Pernambuco states. Specimens from Colombia showed the highest genetic divergence from the others haplotypes studied. Data on the genetic variability among specimens, more than their geographic proximity, were in agreement with data obtained from analyses of the pheromone extracts. Our data demonstrate a variation in pheromone composition and a covariation in haplotypes of the D. saccharalis populations studied.  相似文献

Behavioral patterns and pheromone titer in females of the steam borer Diatraea indigenella Dyar & Heinrich were assessed for 7 days during scotophase under a 13:11 L:D photoperiod. Calling was observed from the first scotophase for most of the females. The highest percentage of calling females was recorded 6 h after the onset of scotophase. Calling bouts and length of calling were affected by age, decreasing dramatically after the sixth scotophase. By coupling chemical and electrophysiological techniques (GC–EAD, GC–MS) and olfactometer bioassays (Z,E)-9,11-hexadecadienal was identified as the main sex pheromonal component in the extracts of female glands. The concentration varied from 2.53 to 13.7 ng gland?1 with a peak at the 6th hour of scotophase. In addition, two unidentified secondary active components were detected at very low concentrations. Behavioral assays showed that 86% of the male moths were more attracted to the gland extracts than to hexane (control), and 77% of the male moths were more attracted to the gland extract than to the synthetic major component (Z,E)-9,11-hexadecadienal. However, 68% of males preferred the synthetic major component over hexane. The identification of the major sex pheromonal component represents an important step toward the complete elucidation of the composition of the sex pheromone of D. indigenella in order to develop monitoring tools.  相似文献

Female pheromone gland extracts of Spodoptera littoralis were analyzed for pheromone precursors. Large amounts of fatty methyl esters were found and a positive relationship between the methyl esters and the pheromonal components was observed. The esters were identified on the basis of capillary gas chromatography, coupled gas chromatography with mass spectroscopy and dimethyl disulfide derivatization, and subsequent gas chromatography with mass spectrometry. The characteristic fatty esters of S. littoralis are methyl (Z)-9-tetradecenoate, (E)- and (Z)-11-tetradecenoate, (Z,E)-9,12-tetradecadienoate, (Z,E)-9,11-tetradecadienoate, and (Z)-11-hexadecenoate. The biosynthesis of the monosaturated acids involves probably the common E11 and Z11 desaturases and chain shortening. For the biosynthesis of the novel diene acids, we propose a second, specific desaturation of (Z)-9-tetradecenoate by an E11 desaturase to produce (Z,E)-9,11-tetradecadienoate or by an E12 desaturase to produce (Z,E)-9,12-tetradecadienoate.  相似文献

Seven candidates for components of the female sex pheromone of Eilema japonica (Arctiidae, Lithosiinae) were detected in an extract of pheromone glands with a gas chromatograph-electroantennographic detector. The compounds were identified as (Z,Z)-6,9-icosadiene (D20), (Z,Z)-6,9-henicosadiene (D21), (Z,Z,Z)-3,6,9-henicosatriene (T21), (Z,Z)-6,9-docosadiene (D22), (Z,Z,Z)-3,6,9-docosatriene (T22), (Z,Z)-6,9-tricosadiene (D23), and (Z,Z,Z)-3,6,9-tricosatriene (T23). Assays using synthetic lures in a wind tunnel showed that D21 (proportion, 0.39), T21 (0.08), D22 (0.27), and T22 (0.26) are important for evoking full behavioral responses from the males. Titers of the pheromone components did not show clear temporal fluctuations. Moreover, decapitation of the female moth had no effect on the titers of pheromone components in the pheromone gland, suggesting that cephalic endocrine factors such as pheromone biosynthesis activating neuropeptide (PBAN) are not involved in the control of pheromone biosynthesis in this species.  相似文献

Males of Nauphoeta cinerea produce a volatile pheromone which attracts the female for mating. Allatectomy of males either 5 days prior to or within 12 hr following the imaginal ecdysis does not impair pheromone production, pheromone release, nor any observable aspect of mating behaviour. It is proposed that in N. cinerea, and in other cockroach species where the male releases a volatile pheromone to attract the female, pheromone production is not controlled by the corpora allata, and pheromone release is under direct motor control.  相似文献

Background

The Chinese pine caterpillar moth, Dendrolimus tabulaeformis Tsai and Liu (Lepidoptera: Lasiocampidae) is the most important defoliator of coniferous trees in northern China. Outbreaks occur over enormous areas and often lead to the death of forests during 2–3 successive years of defoliation. The sex pheromone of D. tabulaeformis was investigated to define its chemistry and behavioral activity.

Methodology/Principal Findings

Sex pheromone was collected from calling female D. tabulaeformis by headspace solid phase microextraction (SPME) and by solvent extraction of pheromone glands. Extracts were analyzed by coupled gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and coupled GC-electroantennographic detection (GC-EAD), using antennae from male moths. Five components from the extracts elicited antennal responses. These compounds were identified by a combination of retention indices, electron impact mass spectral matches, and derivatization as (Z)-5-dodecenyl acetate (Z5-12:OAc), (Z)-5-dodecenyl alcohol (Z5-12:OH), (5Z,7E)-5,7-dodecadien-1-yl acetate (Z5,E7-12:OAc), (5Z,7E)-5,7-dodecadien-1-yl propionate (Z5,E7-12:OPr), and (5Z,7E)-5,7-dodecadien-1-ol (Z5,E7-12:OH). Behavioral assays showed that male D. tabulaeformis strongly discriminated against incomplete and aberrant blend ratios. The correct ratio of Z5,E7-12:OAc, Z5,E7-12:OH, and Z5,E7-12:OPr was essential for optimal upwind flight and source contact. The two monoenes, Z5-12:OAc and Z5-12:OH, alone or binary mixtures, had no effect on behavioral responses when added to the optimal three-component blend.

Conclusions/Significance

The fact that deviations from the optimal ratio of 100∶100∶4.5 of Z5,E7-12:OAc, Z5,EZ7-12:OH, and Z5,E7-12:OPr resulted in marked decreases in male responses suggests that biosynthesis of the pheromone components is precisely controlled. The optimal blend of the sex pheromone components of D. tabulaeformis worked out in this study should find immediate use in monitoring this pest in Chinese forests.  相似文献

Odor perception via the antennal sensilla in most honeybee species is poorly studied. We measured the antennal sensillum potential in response to Apis florea mandibular gland pheromone and showed that it is robust and reliable in forager and guard bees. Mandibular gland pheromone may be involved in signaling alarm or foraging resource depletion. Changes of antennal sensilla placodea potential of A. florea foragers and guards were measured after exposure to three concentrations of the synthetic pheromones, 2-heptanone and (Z)-11-eicosen-1-ol, using a potentiostat connected to an e-corder (ED401) with microelectrodes. The resting sensillum potential of A. florea foragers and guards were ?55.37 ± 3.44 and ?52.85 ± 5.34 mV, respectively. The sensillum potential of bees exposed to 1.0%, 5.0% and 10.0% (Z)-11-eicosen-1-ol were ?23.35 ± 0.98, ?16.78 ± 1.94 and ?24.24 ± 8.20 mV, respectively, in foragers, and ?21.95 ± 3.21, ?21.42 ± 4.73 and ?13.54 ± 4.16 mV, respectively, for guards. Exposure of bees to 1.0%, 5.0% and 10.0% 2-heptanone induced sensillum potentials of ?10.64 ± 2.44, ?44.88 ± 2.41 and ?48.84 ± 4.40 mV, respectively, in foragers and 15.85 ± 9.38, ?25.48 ± 1.43 and ?15.52 ± 6.61 mV, respectively, in guards. The highest sensillum potential was recorded in foragers exposed to 1.0% 2-heptanone. In general, except for the response to 1.0% 2-heptanone, the sensillum potentials of all bees to (Z)-11-eicosen-1-ol were higher than that of 2-heptanone. These results show that A. florea antennal sensilla in foragers and guard bees exhibit a stronger response to (Z)-11-eicosen-1-ol as compared to 2-heptanone. Our results also provide useful comparative data to explore olfactory perception in non-model honey bee species.  相似文献

Mating disruption of the carpenter moth, Cossus insularis Staudinger (Lepidoptera: Cossidae), with a synthetic version of its sex pheromone, a mixture of (E)-3-tetradecenyl acetate and (Z)-3-tetradecenyl acetate, was tested for three successive years in Japanese pear (Pyrus pyrifolia var. culta) orchards. Pheromone trap catches, percentage mating of tethered females, and tree damage were measured in both the pheromone-treated and untreated control orchards. The attraction of male adults to pheromone traps was completely disrupted, and the mating of the tethered females was completely inhibited by the treatment of synthetic pheromones. The percentage of damaged trees in the pheromone-treated orchard decreased over the course of the experiment, while the damage percentage did not decrease in the untreated orchard. These results show that mating disruption with the synthetic sex pheromone is promising for the reduction of damage caused by C. insularis in apple and Japanese pear orchards.  相似文献

(Z)-2-((1H-Indazol-3-yl)methylene)-6-[11C]methoxy-7-(piperazin-1-ylmethyl)benzofuran-3(2H)-one, a new potential PET probe for imaging of the enzyme PIM1, was first designed and synthesized in 20–30% decay corrected radiochemical yield and 370–740 GBq/μmol specific activity at end of bombardment (EOB). The efficacy of synthetic female sex pheromone lures for Crocidolomia pavonana (Fabricius) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) in the cabbage fields of Java and Bali, Indonesia, was investigated by varying the composition and dosage of the components. The lure containing a synthetic pheromone blend of (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate (Z11–16: Ac) and (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate (Z9–14: Ac) at a 10:1 ratio acquired significantly more male catches than single component lures and the control lure. Meanwhile, no attraction was observed when lures with 1:1 and 1:10 blends were tested. The composition of Z11–16: Ac and Z9–14: Ac at a ratio of 5, 10 and 20:1 attracted more males than the control lures. Dosage studies showed that 0.055 and 0.55 mg of a mixture of Z11–16: Ac and Z9–14: Ac (10:1 ratio) attracted more males than the control. These results are the first demonstration of the efficacy of synthetic pheromone for C. pavonana in field conditions. The present study suggests the feasibility of pheromone-based monitoring as a simple and low-cost technique for integrated pest management of this pest.  相似文献

Mate-finding communication in many moths is mediated by sex pheromones produced by females. Since the differentiation of sex pheromones is often associated with speciation, it is intriguing to elucidate how the changes in sex pheromones are tracked by the pheromone recognition system of the males. Moths of the genus Ostrinia, which show distinct differentiation in female sex pheromones, are good models to study this. The present study was initiated with the aim of identifying ORs from Ostrinia scapulalis that respond to its own pheromone components, (E)-11- and (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetates. We isolated six OR gene candidates (OscaOR3–8) from O. scapulalis. The same set of genes homologous to OscaOR3–8 were conserved in all (eight) Ostrinia species examined in addition to the previously reported OscaOR1 (tuned to (E)-11-tetradecenol) and the Or83b homologue OscaOR2. OscaOR3 not only responded to (E)-11- and (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetates, but also to the pheromone components of the congeners, (Z)-9-, (E)-12-, and (Z)-12-tetradecenyl acetates. OscaOR4 responded with a relatively high specificity to (E)-11-tetradecenyl acetate. While OscaOR5 responded only marginally to a few pheromone components, OscaOR6–8 did not respond to any of the compounds tested. A few conserved ORs, including a unique one with very broad responsiveness, appear to be involved in the sex pheromone reception in O. scapulalis. The findings of the present study are discussed with reference to knowledge on electrophysiological response profiles of olfactory receptor neurons in Ostrinia moths.  相似文献

The timing of development was examined in 496 embryos from female Monodelphis domestica, collected at known time intervals after video recorded mating. Ovulation occurred approximately 20 hr (day 1) after mating, and fertilization was observed by 24 hr. Transport through the oviducts was rapid, and pronuclear stage embryos were recovered from the uterus as early as 24 hr after mating. Second cleavage had occurred by 55 hr after mating. Three-celled embryos were among those collected on day 3 after mating, indicating that asynchronous cleavage of blastomeres can occur from the two-cell stage. The four-cell stage persisted for approximately 24 hr, and embryos that had undergone third cleavage were first recovered 74 hr after mating. Embryos that had undergone fourth to fifth cleavage were found 96–100 hr (4 days) after mating and complete unilaminar blastocysts by 5.5 days after mating. Primary endoderm formed from an already distinct embryonic area of the unilaminar blastocyst early on day 7 after mating. Formation of the bilaminar blastocyst was completed rapidly, on day 7 after mating. The primitive streak appeared on day 10 after mating, and organogenesis rapidly ensued on a timetable similar to that reported for Didelphis virginiana (McCrady, 1938). Close contact with the maternal circulation was established on day 11 and by day 12 maternal and embryonic tissues could not be separated without damage. The length of the gestation period from fertilization to birth was approximately 13.5 days.
